Mountains Wanted (Mountains Series #1) by Phoebe Alexander

4 out of 5

Mountains Wanted by Phoebe Alexander is a delicious, emotional ride through finding love in the least expected places. Dr. Sarah Lynde is a professor and single mom. Sarah, through her friendship with Rachel, discovered a love of sex and isn’t afraid to go after who she wants.

Sarah meets 1st Sgt. James McAllister at a panel discussion on gays serving in the military. James is everything that Sarah could want in a partner, tall, strong, sexy, intelligent. And, a few things she doesn’t, poor at communicating, looking at redeployment. The connection Sarah and James share is unlike anything Sarah has felt before. When Sarah offers James the chance to be friends with benefits, James quickly agrees. What happens when Sarah wants more? Is James willing to change the nature of the relationship?

Sarah is a single mom of two kids who she is trying to raise with the help of her mother and her best friend. Sarah’s ex decided, Daniel, to disappear 3 years ago. Sarah helped the kids pick up the pieces and move on. Abby is now 15 going on 40. Abby faces decisions about relationships and adolescence with wisdom beyond her years. Owen is 10 and enjoys asking sex education questions to annoy his sister. Owen has a heart as big as the Rocky Mountains. Now Daniel has emerged with a new wife and son and wants back into the kids’ lives. Will Sarah be able to hold all the pieces together?

James is finding his way in Sarah’s world. James doesn’t know if Sarah’s world is where he fits. He knows he wants a wife, kids, a family some day. He thinks he is just about ready to go for it but is facing deployment, again. A decision has to be made. Is James willing to look for the family he wants with Sarah? Is there a place for Sarah in James’ life when he gets back from deployment?

Phoebe Alexander takes you and your emotions through all the peaks and valleys. It’s a wicked climb! I can’t wait for the rest of the series to find out where life takes Sarah and James.

This book includes descriptions of a polyamorous lifestyle and may not be for all readers.

Mountains Wanted (Mountains Series Book 1) by Phoebe Alexander

I knew going in that this book was a part of a series and I guess technically a cliffhanger so I can only be mad at myself for having to wait to find out what happens next, thankfully I won’t have to wait too long since the series has seven books released.

I got very frustrated with Sarah several times, some of her behaviors were those I have come to expect from younger female characters but with her history I can see where she would have some trust issues.

I love Sarah’s kids and Rachel and envy her openness and ability to be herself without fear or concerns.

I will be starting the next book as soon as I get a chance to.  My lack of patience won’t allow me to wait too long.   Especially since I have loved every single book I have had the pleasure of reading by Ms. Alexander

If I could give a million stars I would, I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book!!!! It was definitely a book I could not put down. Dr. Sarah Lynde’s character is strong and bad azz in many ways. She is a provider to her two children and balances being a professor. When she meets Lt. James McAllister at her speaking engagement, I knew there would be sparks. Boy oh boy was I right. The story unfolds when they get together there is so much sizzling heat. James is torn between what he wants and what is right in front of him. There are many ups and downs between James and Sarah when it comes to matters of the heart and feelings. What does James? You will have to read and find out. The ending….AHHHH … I need book 2 ASAP :).

Sarah is looking for a hook up, Friends with benefits whatever you want to put a label on it but definitely not a relationship that why this seems a great deal with James.

Sarah is woman who knows what she wants, nothing complicated, no relationship just sex. While at work she meets James who seems the ideal person for a friends with benefit package, there is an instant attraction but as it goes on can she just see him a bit of fun or will it get serious.

James is a RTOC Instructor and is giving a talk to a class but his attraction is drawn to the professor, Sarah. When they approach each other James feels the attraction and when the opportunity to just scratch each others itch becomes a reality James jumps in with both feet but feelings are starting to play a part and James is at crossroads.

I love, love, love this author and her stories there is never a boring one, the writing is brilliant as usual and the characters are well developed and just jump off the page with the chemistry they have.

I always love how Phoebe creates her female lead characters with strength and a “don’t give a crap” attitude but also shows the flaws in there characters as well and that is also evident in this book. I also love the way the male characters are nearly always alpha men but have that soft side to them that you just melt into.

This is the first book in this series and can’t wait to read the next books to see how this beautiful relationship and couple progress.

This was a great start to a new series, the blurb really made me want to read this and it quite honestly did not disappoint. Really liked Sarah and James relationship the slow burn and the angst was there and honestly, it was written great. Did not expect the ending and I can’t wait to read the next book and find out what happened.

Sarah is a woman with needs and desires that she has let go by the wayside for too long. Standing in the sub shop waiting to place her order, she sees this hot hunk of soldier that she would like to take a bite out of (who doesn’t like a man in uniform?). Sarah doesn’t see him again until she attends a panel discussion on the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. She’s a professor and a participant. She sees him in the audience and they make eye contact. After the discussions, he suggests getting together for coffee to further discuss this topic. This leads to other things and some steamy no strings attached action. Sarah is fine with this because she is polyamorous. But uh oh…..she falls in love with him which creates all kinds of problems. They are seeing other people. He starts seeing his high school sweetheart. Oh the many glitches that happen in this “relationship.” Once you start this book, you just can’t stop. You have to see if they can work it out. The characters, both main and supportive, are relatable and likeable. You find yourself wanting to follow all the twists you know are coming. Part of the book is in Colorado, which is where I am so I love it for that reason too. This author is up there on my favorites list.

This is an escape book. One that you pick up when you are looking for an easy, romance read without too much drama. There is a little bit of angst and a fair bit of steam. I enjoyed that the FMC was self-assured (most of the time) and that the characters owned who they were. There is a fair bit of detail and inner monologue but it helped to understand the characters motivations better.

Sarah is looking for a “friend with benefits” and James is looking for a hot distraction until he’s ready to settle down. These two light up the pages with their heat. It’s refreshing to read about people who represent different lifestyles and relationship types. There is not nearly enough representation in literature of alternative lifestyles. When feelings start to delve deeper and relationships need to be reexamined hearts can be broken. I’m very much looking forward to reading the next book!

Warning for 18+ readers.
Being polyamorous and part of the LBGTQ community this book touched my heart in special ways. Dr. Sarah Lynde is a very sex positive woman. She is comfortable in her skin and knows who she is. Sarah is on the lookout for a friend with benefits when she meets the very handsome Army First Sergeant James McAllister. Meeting at a lecture Sarah gives about the military’s don’t ask, don’t tell policy they meet up for coffee for a continuing discussion. Their views differ but the attraction and electricity between them is undeniable. Sarah is hesitant for a serious relationship after her marriage ended in a disaster and James having served in Afghanistan and having a failed marriage is also a little reluctant.
I love all the discussions about their status and feelings; in a polyamorous relationship communication is very important. It was nice to see that portrayed so wonderfully and realistically. The feelings Sarah had about telling James that she was polyamorous for fear of how he would feel about it, were perfectly on the mark!!

Mountains Wanted is the first in the Mountains Series by Phoebe Alexander. While this novel is different from her other novels, it touches on an issue in today’s world. Follow along with Sarah as she learns more about herself and what she wants. Alexander took a topic that isn’t discussed that much and wrote a novel about it. The main character, Sarah, struggles a little bit about what she wants and with whom she wants it with. Can she settle for just one? This novel is a great start to a wonderful series and I can’t wait to read more.

Hot, steamy, unorthodox romance writing at its finest! Sarah, single mother of 2, enjoys her life as a free spirit with no strings attached relationships. James is military and not looking for anything serious. When the two meet and begin a friends with benefits relationship, things become complicated as Sarah finds herself falling for James.

This story is HOT. Full of lustful, descriptive sex scenes, it is not for the faint at heart! Mountains Wanted explores relationships from all angles, including friends/boyfriends/friends with benefits/and everything in between. I could relate completely with Sarah as she dealt with her relationship with her teenage daughter! Great character development, great conversations. Would have rated it a 5/5 but there were some scenes that felt unnecessary to the flow of the story and could have been eliminated.

Mountains Wanted ( Mountains Series #1) By Phoebe Alexander was a wonderful book to read, in fact I didn’t want to put it down…. OMG what a rollercoaster of emotions!!

Dr Sarah Lynde is a professor with a very open mind and lifestyle, being Bi and believing in Poly relationships, she is always true to herself while juggling work and being a single parent. Something I find admiring about this character. I mean who doesn’t want to be able to be true to themselves at all times.
Along comes James McAllister, a gorgeous young Army man currently teaching ROTC . They both decide to enter into a “Friends with Benefits” type of relationship with no complications. Of course over time emotions and feelings definitely come in to it for them both. The big question is…Is what they feel for each other enough for them both to feel that they can build a future?

This was a fantastic start to the series. It is filled with characters of great depth and heart, plenty of steamy scenes and it is full of emotion. I don’t just want to read the next book to see what happens next with Sarah and James, I NEED too!

This isn’t my first book by Phoebe Alexander and it won’t be my last. Phoebe’s writing always knows how to draw a reader in and gets the readers attached to her characters. Oh, let’s not forget she knows how to steam up the pages!

Mountains Wanted is the first of 3 books (hint, you are left with a cliffhanger) that follows the love story of James McAllister and Sarah Lynde. Do these friends with benefits take to the next level or are they better as friends?

Sarah might just be my favorite heroine by this author, she is strong, speaks her mind, and confident. I can’t wait to continue their story in Mountains Climbed – because who won’t want to climb James like a tree.

Sugar & Spice (Spicetopia Book 1) by Phoebe Alexander

I have had the pleasure of reading several books by Ms. Alexander and have a certain expectation when I start one of her books.  I’m happy to report I wasn’t disappointed with this book.

I thought the book taking place at a theme park was amazing and something new at least for me.

I love Jolie and her story is sad and empowering at the same time.  She was willing to do whatever it takes to provide for her sons and she did just that.

Cy wasn’t the most likeable in the beginning, but there was a shift in him as the story progressed and by the end I loved him.

Once again Ms. Alexander delivers a great book which I will continue to expect from her.  Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Mountains Wanted is book one in the Mountains series by Phoebe Alexander. I fell instantly and completely into this story. With an open mind and a burning desire, I devoured Mountains Wanted. She was not afraid to share her opinion and was comfortable in her own skin. It was a pleasure getting to know her. She was a a breath of fresh. And totally unique. James is a gorgeous military man that really raised my heartbeat and my imagination. His enigmatic energy was additive and I could not get enough. Together they were electric.

Mountains wanted was a super sexy and alluring read. Super sensual and utterly delightful. Phoebe Alexander always supplies a dramatic and titillating story. She never disappoints and just keeps getting better. 5 sexy stars.

Mountains Wanted is the first book in the Mountains series by Phoebe Alexander. It is a unique story that really gets your feelings going. I will say it has some themes that are not usually my cup of tea, but it was well written and kept me wanting more.

Sarah is a professor at the University of Maryland (UMD). She teaches Sociology and in turn studies some pretty unique topics that she also practices in her own life. As a single mom, life isn’t always easy, but somehow she manages to get through each day.

James is in charge of the ROTC program at UMD and meets Sarah at a lecture she gives on evening at the University.

Sarah and James hit it off, obvious chemistry between them, but with life and personalities as they are, will they get in the way?

The insecurities the characters have in this novel are so real. It makes for a very realistic read! I appreciate being able to venture out of my own norm. If you are looking for an interesting and unique read, this novel is for you!

This hidden-identity romance is a fun trip to the theme park where there is fun and frolicking going on behind the scenes. Definitely a fun read!

Mountains Wanted (Mountains #1)Mountains Wanted by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was my first Phoebe Alexander book and my first read about swingers/open marriages and relationships. I’m not 100% sure how I feel about the book because I truly enjoyed getting to know Sarah and her family, but I also found aspects of the book extremely frustrating and hard to believe. I guess I will share what I liked and then what I wasn’t so excited about. I personally love people watching/Sociology/the study of behaviors and cultures so for me that part of Sarah’s life was incredibly interesting. I loved her willingness to be open about her life and choices with her kids, friends, lovers, etc. because it made her a much stronger, more developed character in my opinion. I personally wouldn’t want an open relationship, but the concept doesn’t bother me at all, and I enjoyed reading about Sarah’s experiences of being with who she was attracted to. I also loved the fact that the main heroine is in her late thirties, with kids, AND a little curvy to boot, it just made it so relatable!! Alexander is a gifted world-builder and has great character development skills, so that is always a huge plus!
Now for the part, I didn’t enjoy as much, the steam with James is fan-freaking-tastic, but I just couldn’t understand the absolute lack of basic communication between the two of them. In my mind, there is nothing “open” about having zero real talk, and it just made Sarah a beck and call girl, in my opinion, which tainted my feelings for James as the leading man. Since the whole story is first-person POV from Sarah, we don’t know what James was thinking. In the end, good sex just wouldn’t be worth it for me.
So, I guess what I’m trying to say is, YOU may love this book if open relationships, some interesting characters, and good steam are what you are looking for, I just couldn’t dive all the way in with Alexander on this one.

The characters for Sugar and spice were cute. Jolie was more relatable more than Cy was. In the beginning Cy was a huge turn off. He was whiny, annoying and clearly spoiled and knew how to get his way. Seeing him grow and actually learn that money can’t fix every problem was refreshing. Seeing Jolie put him in his place was absolutely hilarious. The sex scenes seemed a little lacking, but were still pretty good. I enjoyed the book and I will be looking forward to reading her other books!

Ms. Alexander has done it again, i originally picked up Sugar & Spice because I love Ms. Alexander’s writing style, and she did not disappoint me. Once again her character descriptions are amazing, making her characters so likable and relatable. With the right imagination her characters stories are very easy to get swept up in, her scenery descriptions are breathtaking, almost making her readers feel like their in the story. With Sugar & Spice it was just a little different, knowing this was a romance book I expected a few things but Ms. Alexander deftinitly unfolded some very hot scenes in this one. Sugar & Spice has everything a romance reader will want great characters, love, lust, and more. So if your looking for a great weekend read then I highly recommend Sugar & Spice by Phoebe Alexander.

Mountains Wanted by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Mountains Wanted is definitely steamy and intended for those who are 18 and older.

Sociology professor Dr. Sarah Lynde is looking for a no strings attached hook up. She is a single mother raising a teenaged daughter and preteen son that are her first priority. She first sees Army First Sergent James McAllister in line at a sandwich shop then again at a Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell meeting. Normally Sarah doesn’t go for younger men, but there is something about this man that keeps her hanging on. Will she keep the feelings at bay and be able to only be friends with benefits or will she want something more?

James McAllister is on active duty ready to be deployed at anytime. Right now he is just looking to have some fun since he is young and not ready to settle down. Is Sarah the one that will make him want to settle down or is she a diversion on his road to the one?

I have read other titles by this author and love her writing style. I am looking forward to continuing Sarah and James’ story in book two.

Of course there is a cliff hanger! When things get really good…it stops. Mountains Wanted is the first book in the Mountains series by Phoebe Alexander. First we meet Dr. Sarah Lynde who is a doctor in Sociology. Then we meet First Sergeant James McAllister who is serving in the Army. Neither one want anything permanent. But then again they never expected the immense chemistry that the two share. Are they setting themselves up for complete failure or will they risk it all? I’ll let you decide. But I will tell you that this book was written very well and the characters are super well developed. You can completely feel the chemistry exuding from those two. This story is very much one that explores different areas of sexuality and you may or may not learn a thing or two. It was a really easy book to read and it definitely kept me turning those pages. I was impressed with this book and its author. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to find out what happens next!

This is the first book I have read by Phoebe Alexander, and I can tell you it has been a hot and steamy ride. If you don’t like hot and steamy, then don’t read it but by the cover of the book you can tell it is already. Not only does the writer incorporate some no string attached playboy type stuff, but she pulls at the heart strings of the reader when you find out the mother is a single mother who has a child that is sick. Playboy who keeps on playing, or someone who trips up and falls in love? Keep reading because there are twist and turns on this roller coaster of a story!
