This is the first book in the Sweetopia series. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author, and I’m ready for more. A single mother and a undercover job bring Cy and Jolie together. It’s full of twists and turns, romance and love. I couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I love to undercover boss concept and it did not disappoint! Cy is sweet and his character growth from perceived villain to someone we can all fall in love with is great! As the undercover boss he gets to see where the employee are coming from and I’m sure his infatuation and frequent visits with Jolie helped.
This book was full of tension between the characters and the spice is well worth the build up! Now I’m off to read the next book in the Spicetopia series!

From page 1 this book reaches out and grabs you. Cy is the heir of of Sweetopia family fortune, an amusement park. He has learned of a few employees trying to organize a strike against his family and goes undercover as a new employee to get to the root of the issue and protect his future. He absolutely does not expect to find the employees so likeable and fun to be around. Jolie is a single mom working 2 jobs trying to keep things moving forward for her young boys (one of them has CF and requires extra care) and is “The Queen” of the theme park – the Red Velvet Queen. She is tired of killing herself for jobs that take and take from their employees instead of looking out for them and starts to reach out amongst her fellow theme park employees.
Her life feels desperate, but things are starting to look up as she creates a following…and then a very handsome fellow employee begins visiting her in her dressing room. Jolie has spent so long taking care of her kids and having that be her focus that she feels she has let herself go. She feels too insecure about what she has to offer, is uncomfortable with what the people in her past have made her feel about her life – her stretchmarks, her child who requires special care, her age, her ability to parent on her own and make good choices, and so much more. But Cy makes her feel strong and sure and desirable. And she makes Cy recognize how many good things there are in life that have nothing to do with his family legacy. When Jolie learns who Cy really is, will how he made her feel make a difference about his identity? Will Cy be able to fall in love with her and still have a successful family legacy?
This book was so dang good. The characters are so well written and the author knew exactly how to blend them together to improve them. Jolie has so many “every woman” insecurities but knows her strength and ability to persevere. Cy has such a wonderful growth curve in this story and makes an “every woman” feel like the ONLY woman. I really wanted to have this book last me a couple of days but I couldn’t put it down and couldn’t sleep until I finished it. Heat, chemistry, great world building and relatability to the characters, the fun woven into the storyline – even with the “villians”. I can’t wait to meet the rest of the Sweet family!
Cy Sweet is the youngest son of the Sweet family, owners of the Sweetopia family friendly theme park, he is one of three and is a typical young man who lives his life without any worries about money, just where he can next go study architecture, the arts and anything else which takes his fancy, he is always thought of as the lazy one by his family, someone who doesn’t really contribute anything and now he is being told that he has to start pulling his weight. Jolie Cox is a woman with a family of her own, with two sons and lives with her mum and they are a very close family, she does everything she can to look after them, including working long hours at two jobs and making ends meet, her main job being at Sweetopia, playing their main character the Red Velvet Queen.
One day, the Sweets hold a family meeting where Cy is told that there is a rebellion forming within Sweetopia and that rumours of strikes and boycotts have come to the families attention, so Cy is told that he is going in undercover to try and work out who the ringleaders are, how they are being organised and where, so he dons a disguise and is sent into the bakery as a seasonal temp so that he can find out the information his family wants and he also has a strict time limit to find this all out. Meanwhile, Jolie is having to organise her work hours so that she can care for her son who is having to go into hospital again so that he can get his treatment for his Cystic Fibrosis, as well as looking after her other son between appointment in her second job and it is exhausting for her, not to mention the guilt she feels for having to ask her mum for help the whole time.
This is where Cy goes wandering in the employee corridors before his shift and it is also when he meets the Red Velvet Queen for the first time, he is stunned by her and cannot help but sneak into the throne room and pay her a visit and Jolie is immediately taken with him too, he seems to be her ideal type, so when he starts to meet her in her dressing room, she is open to a bit of fun and so is Cy, but neither can afford to become too attached. As the two become better acquainted, Cy is beginning to see things through a new lens and it has him shocked, but will he be able to root out the rebellious coworkers and figure out who the ringleader is and what will happen between himself and Jolie if what they have is built on secrets? This is a steamy romance where secrets and lies are currency and feelings grow in a bed of deceit, but what happens when the truth comes out is something you will have to read through this enticing book to find out.

This being my first book from this author and it having such an interesting premise I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect, but it did deliver. Sugar and Spice gets all of the originality points because I haven’t heard of an adult theme park with cosplay. I mean the adult, incredibly spicy, version of Disney World what an idea. The author wrote her characters so real and they had depth. I think it would be the perfect rainy day, or beach read book.

Sugar & Spice (Spicetopia Book 1) by Phoebe Alexander
I have had the pleasure of reading several books by Ms. Alexander, including the first release of this book and I have a certain expectation when I start one of her books. I’m happy to report I wasn’t disappointed with this book.
I thought the book taking place at a theme park was amazing and was something new at least for me.
Jolie and her story are both sad and empowering. She was willing to do whatever it takes to provide for her sons and she did just that. Being a single mother isn’t an easy job in any sense but add in two jobs on top of everything else makes Jolie a rock star.
Cy wasn’t the most likeable in the beginning, but there was a shift in him as the story progressed and by the end I loved him.
Once again Ms. Alexander delivers a great book which I will continue to expect from her. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Sugar and Spice (Spicetopia #1) introduces us to Cy and Jolie.
Cy is going to inherit the company one day and Jolie is a single mom trying make ends meet. Cy goes undercover and Jolie wears a costume at work, so do they really know each other?
I enjoyed this story and the characters but something about the storyline felt very forced. I wanted to read this as if it came so naturally. I was hoping for a hook that would hit that point and everything falls into place.

I recently rediscovered Phoebe Alexander and was really excited to start another series by this author. Sugar and Spice is the first book in the Spicetopia series. I enjoyed the book and felt it was a great introduction to the main and supporting characters. The characters had chemistry and spice, as the title may elude. While the storyline of a single mother finding love is not necessarily new or uncommon,, this was a different approach and pulled off well. Not atypical of Phoebe Alexander. I genuinely look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Cyrus Sweet (Cy for short) is the youngest of the sweet family. He is known to be a party boy who travels the world on mommy and daddys dime. The Sweet family own a medieval themed theme park called ‘Sweetopia’. Cys parents catch wind that one of their employees is holding secret meetings badmouthing the Sweet family and how they treat those who work for them. Mr. Sweet threatens Cy to go undercover and out those employees or he will be cut off from the family and his inheritance. Cy has no other option if he wants to continue his lifestyle.
He is put undercover as a temp working in the bakery by the name of Marcus and he’s British. Cy meets the Red Velvet queen who works down the hall and is instantly attracted to her. She is gorgeous and he decides right then and there he must have her.
Jolie may play the part of the Red Velvet Queen but in real life she is a single mother of 2 kids, one of which is ill. She has a second job as a dominatrix just to make ends meet. When the new young temp Marcus shows an interest in her, she decides to have some fun with him as the queen because no way would he like the real Jolie right?
The chemistry is strong between the two of them. They are both playing a part so no way can this go outside of the workplace. Jolie hates the Sweet family with a passion, no way would she willingly be with one. At least that’s what they keep telling themselves.
This book was steamy without being vulgar. Jolie is caring, sweet, strong, independent and sassy. I love the way she thinks and talks. Since she is 32 years old and a mom, I found her really easy to resonate with. At first I disliked Cys character but after a while and some character growth, I found him adorable and caring. The author did a good job with this trope giving it their own flare.
Wow!! This book surprised me. I really didn’t expect to enjoy this one as much as I did. If you love a good spicy suspenseful romance story, then this is the book for you. The world building and characters was wonderful. The details in the story was amazing. I can’t wait to read the rest in the series.
I identified so much with this book! Being a full figured single mom has not been easy but reading of how Cy falls for Jolie just on physical appearance and how it drives me wild makes me feel there is hope for those who struggle to find that type of spice in their lives! Marcus/Cy is being entrusted to be an undercover boss at his father’s amusement park where he ends up meeting Jolie, dressed up as the Red Velvet Queen. Jolie is taken aback and in disbelief that such an attractive man would be so forward and coy with his attraction towards her. She takes advantage of his advances as it’s been a while since she’s felt this good. As their physical depths intensify, there is a constant wondering of whether their true selves will be undercovered. The steamy developing relationship keeps readers engaged until the end. Definitely looking forward to digging into the rest of the series!

The speed that I devoured this book felt like it was a split-second! I read this in one sitting because I couldn’t pull myself away. I can’t remember the last time the first book in a series blew me away like this. This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and that’s all it took for me to be a die-hard fan. The way she expertly crafts a plot that completely absorbs you from the first chapter is unbelievable! While there are plenty of steamy scenes in this book, the author doesn’t rely on it to carry the story at all. You’ll be taken on an emotional rollercoaster as Jolie works her hardest to provide for her children, one having cystic fibrosis and needing a lot of care. Cyrus meets Jolie and sparks fly, but they’re both hiding something that could change everything. I highly recommend this sweet and spicy romance and bet you won’t be able to put it down either. I can’t wait to pick up the rest of the books in this series!
This is the first book in the Spicetopia series. I have loved this series. The author does any incredible job of mixing a steamy read with characters that are relatable and really bring the stories to life. This is the first time we meet the Sweet family and their amazing park. This story is about Cy and Jolie. There is unease at the park, rumours are going around of the staff planning a strike. With that happening the owners decide to send someone undercover to find out who is behind it all. The person is CY. Dressed as a temp employee and with the additional bonus of a cash reward for finding the person CY takes on the task. He thinks it will be easy and straight forward until he meets Jolie. Jolie plays the Red Velvet Queen, when she meets “Marcus” she keeps him at arms length. Jolie had secrets that she must keep hidden and working two jobs to take care of her responsibilities but as the spark between them grows she can’t keep pushing him away. Both do them are holding secrets and what will the consequences of those secrets be when they are revealed. Will it tear them apart? And when Cy sees just how the staff are treated by his parents, will Cy carry on the plan his mother and father have sent him to do or will he decide to support the workers and the woman he is falling for?
I loved this steamy romance and I loved watching the character growth of both Jolie and Cy. They are so suited for each other but there are so much between them that they have a lot to overcome if they are going to succeed in a relationship.

Wow! Such a fun read! Entertaining, steamy, and all around crazy! Hidden identities, secrets, and plot twists you wouldn’t believe! Read this book if you like romance, attraction, and twists and turns!
Oh, what spicy sweet bliss this book held within its pages. This is the first book not only of the Spicetopia series but the first book I have read by Phoebe Alexander. To say I wasn’t disappointed would be an understatement. Dual perspectives of Cyrus Sweet and Jolie Cox. Cy is the youngest son of the Sweet Enterprises company. Given no choice in the matter he is forced to be the undercover boss at his parents’ family theme park, Sweetopia. Rumors of a Rebel Alliance have caused concerns, and they need answers on who to fire to stop it all in its tracks before it goes public. Jolie is the coveted Red Velvet Queen of Sweetopia. While during the day she works at a family theme park as the lead heroine at night she is a dominatrix. Both jobs daily as she fights to make ends meet to support her mom and her two sons, one of which is terminally ill. Marcus Young (Cy), British summer temp worker, immediately he is drawn to Jolie, and she is drawn to him neither understanding the hold the other has over their bodies but embracing the summer fling. In Jolie’s words it’s just for a few months and she’ll never see him again, and she deserved a little fun in her life. Until everything becomes so much more, Cy’s eyes are opened to the reality of the employees under his family’s company, the long hours and little pay or even appreciation. Everything starts to come to light, who he truly is, who the leader is of the rebel alliance, and all the dark truths his parents would prefer to keep hidden are brought to light. When the time comes will Cy choose the girl or his family? How does Spicetopia come to be? This world isn’t fantasy or anything magical, the characters, the backstories and plots are all plausible in real world lives. The struggles of being a single mom with the added pressure of a sick child. The blinding realities of reality when seen through the perspective of everyday citizens. While the main goal was information for his parents Cy and Jolie both go on missions of discovery, growth, understanding, and more in this sweet and spicy quick read. I cannot wait to see what happens next in book two, Virtue & Vice, with Moon and Katja’s story and more about Cy and Jolie.
This is an amazing quick read. I fell in love with the characters from the start. They both had some serious growth throughout the short book. I was able to read this book in a couple hours and I honestly can’t wait to read the rest of the series. This book is a really good book t o start the series with because I feel like it is laying the groundwork for the rest of the series. You finally are able to put everything together at the end of the book. It is all wrapped up with a pretty bow that allows you to continue on. I loved the level of spice this book has. It actually really helped carry the story line. I don’t mean that in a bad way, the spice is part of the entire story and obviously the series based upon the name. So, I felt like it was just the right amount. If you are looking for a sweet little get away from the real world, I highly recommend this book. Knowing that it is a series, I am excited to see what happens next and who the book is going to focus on. It is hard to tell how amazing this book is without giving away things. I just can’t stress enough how good this quick little read was. Reviewed by: @bbohls View all my reviews

Sugar and Spice by Phoebe Alexander is the first book in the Spicetopia series and one I did NOT want to put down. I could read any book by this author and NOT be disappointed. The characters are so developed, the story line intriguing, and just as the title says, a little bit of sugar and a little it of spice. I was able to read this book in one night and still thinking about it. Cy and Jolie, the main characters, truly will grab you. Cy being the black sheep in his family sent in to find out who is having employees go on strike. Jolie, a single mom, working two jobs just to help raise her two kids. Both fighting hard to not fall in love, but can they fight it? I truly loved this book and can not wait to read more in this series, I highly recommend this, and I hope that the others in the series grab me just as this one did!

This is a spicy romance between a single mom and an undercover billionaire. Cy Sweet’s family owns a theme park and the family is concerned that their employees are plotting a strike against them. Cy is the free spirit of the family who is being forced to go undercover to find the person responsible for plotting a possible strike. What Cy doesn’t realize is that he would start to like the undercover job (in the bakery), but he would really like his co-workers. One co-worker who has his attention is “The Queen” of the theme park, Jolie Cox. Jolie is a single mother of 2 children and one of them has Cystic Fibrosis. Many of the employees, including Jolie, are coming together to out the company about their lack of pay, benefits, etc. However, she also starts to like Cy or “Marcus” (his undercover name) to the point that they start a little escapade in her dressing room. This romance turns into Cy really wanting to date her and get to know her, even when he finds out about her age, her kids, etc. While Cy is making progress in finding the leader, by getting close to everyone, he also starts to realize that his parents don’t really treat their employees well enough, and that matters to him because he starts to care for these people. Will this change when they all find out who he is? Will he have to choose between family and friends when it comes down to it? I enjoyed this book. I thought the progression of events were a little unrealistic in how fast the sexual aspect took place and without much questioning. However, all the characters we likeable. I think when it came to Jolie, I gravitated toward her because I also have a child with Cystic Fibrosis. I also like how they fought for what they believed in, but then she also handled all of the craziness well and the storyline wasn’t over-dramatized. I will probably go on to read the others in the series.

This is NOT the typical story that I reach for, but, what can I say? I was feeling extra spicy one day…This first book in the Spicetopia series is quick, fun, steamy, and just hit the spot. Cy and Jolie’s story is enticing and well-written, so I had absolutely no problem falling right into it. This is not just your normal steamy romance, but an original take that makes it interesting and is actually relatable. Even if romance isn’t what you normally pick up, I highly suggest giving this book a shot. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next one!

Sugar & Spice was different. It was good but different from most romance novels I’ve read. The author gives you a fresh take on a story we’ve read before, well at least the romance part. Forced to go undercover, Cy/Marcus starts his new job in the bakery of his family’s amusement park Sweetopia. There’s rumblings of employees gathering together to strike and boycott the park and his family wants to know who so they can be silenced. All Cy wants to do is travel and wants no parts of the family business. Unfortunately for him what he didn’t expect was 1 Jolie. And 2 what this undercover boss task does for him in the long run. Jolie is a single mom with a terminally ill son who feels the Sweet family treats their employees unfairly and the benefits suck. She intends to do something about it. However when she meets Marcus he’s the curveball she didn’t expect. She had no intentions of having a man in her life. Her focus was her sons and getting fair compensation for her and her coworkers. Will Jolie find out who Marcus really is? Will the park employees follow through with their plans? Does Cy stay loyal to his parents? Lots of questions with many interesting answers and conclusions. It’s a promising start to a potential new series.
Cy is sent undercover to find out who is behind the plan to hold a press conference regarding the management of Sweetopia. Jolie is a single mom trying to care for her two sons, one that has medical issues. She also wants the company to be held accountable for providing livable wages for their employees. The chemistry is immediate, and Cy is struggling with doing what his family want and doing what he wants with Jolie. However, if they both find out the real identity of the other, would they really be able to make it work?
I enjoyed this story. It was a pretty quick read for me. It definitely had some spice, but I also enjoyed the cute love story and how the author brought Sweetopia to life! I enjoyed the whole story and it left me wanting to know more.
Wow, some definite spice for this Sugar & Spice book, but it was an entertaining read. An interesting story line and I enjoyed the undercover boss plot. Jolie provided an interesting character element and I loved that she was a single mom that was struggling…not just your “life is perfect” type of character. I liked the way that Cy (aka “Marcus”) struggled with his family, his undercover role and his feelings for Jolie. This was a fast read and certainly a spicy, contemporary romance story.

This book was fantastic! I really loved it. It sets place in a theme park, which I thought was pretty cool. Jolie works two jobs just to barely pay her bills. This young man comes in and flips her world upside down. Cy is working at his parents theme park. He then meets Jolie. He can’t get her off of his mind. Cannot wait for book two.

Phoebe Alexander created an amazing, suspenseful romance in this story. Cyrus Sweet had spent as much of his time pursuing his dreams while he was in college. He wanted to become an artist and had secured a place in a program where he would learn from his idol, Krstiph Kostopolous, in Greece. However, his brothers and parents had other plans. Corden and Ophelia Sweet own Sweetopia, a family-oriented theme park. They had learned that a possible strike was stirring in the company. Cyrus was told he had to find the ringleaders to keep his inheritance. Corden also offered $25,000 as an incentive. Reluctantly, Cyrus agreed, as long as he could go to Greece.
Cyrus is the persona of Marcus Young, a British graduate student in art history. As a seasonal temporary employee, he was assigned to Bard’s Bakery. He had heard his brothers discussing the new Red Velvet Queen as being hot. When he took a look at the woman, he was automatically intrigued. He introduced himself to her as Marcus, and the attraction was obviously shared.
Jolie works as the Red Velvet Queen by day and a paid dominatrix in the evenings. She has to support her mother and two sons. River was a special needs child with cystic fibrosis who was often in the hospital. While Sweetopia had benefits, their health insurance was shabby, and they paid her $5.00 an hour without overtime. She didn’t want a relationship, but after meeting Marucs, she thought it would be okay to have a little fun during the summer.
Frequent trysts in Jolie’s dressing room have Cyrus feeling guilty about deceiving her about his identity. When he learns of a meeting, he struggles to decide what to do. Should he tell his parents about the impending press conference calling for a strike and boycott of Sweet Enterprises? If he doesn’t do what they demand, he is going to lose his inheritance and trip to Greece. Likewise, he had grown attached to several employees and the beguiling Jolie.
Phoebe brings equal parts sweetness and spice to this novel. The plot is unpredictable, and the points of view of Cyrus and Jolie provide their personal views in vivid detail. Alternating between Cyrus and Jolie was done smoothly, making the transitions effortless. I couldn’t put this book down as I followed the two protagonists, who kept secrets from one another. Their romance blossoms at work while they face impossible odds that could potentially pull them apart. The suspense builds to a climactic scene that I prayed would turn out positively. Sugar & Spice is the first book in the Spicetopia series. I recommend this five-star book to romance readers who like connecting with the characters in a steamy, forbidden romance novel.
Spicetopia Book 1 follows Cy Sweet, spoiled rich boy who looks to inherit the family theme park Spicetopia with his two brothers. Sent undercover with the looming threat of being disinherited if he does not pull his weight and find who the ring leader is for an upcoming planned and sneaky press conference against the company and their treatment of employees.
This book was written well. The story is easy to follow. It has a lot of detail into the characters. I loved reading it and look forward to the next book in the series.

I was drawn into this storyline right from the start and loved every minute of the book through to the end. Phoebe Alexander’s Sugar & Spice has so many unexpected events that you will not want to put the book down! I love how our main character, Jolie, role plays in a sweet factory as The Red Velvet Queen, what a great character that draws in such a huge audience to come and see her. Jolie is the perfect person to fulfill this role, but unfortunately, the pay and the benefits are just not enough for anyone to be able to support their family. This is especially true for Jolie, who is a single mom supporting her two sons, one of whom has a lot of medical problems, as well as her mom who lives with them to help out. Cy is one of the heirs to the Sweetopia business and is sent to go undercover to figure out who is heading up a group of disgruntled employees who are going to the press to disclose the unfair treatment that they feel they are receiving from the business. The second Cy sees Jolie, he falls head over heels in love with her and is torn between doing what his family expects of him or doing what he feels is right for the woman of his dreams. What a dilemma our characters find themselves in, will Cy and Jolie be able to work out their situation and make their relationship work, or will Cy’s true identity be too much for Jolie to accept? From the dynamic characters to the realistic descriptions that beautifully draw a picture of Sweetopia theme park, you will feel like you are right there along with the characters experiencing the fun, and magic of such a wonderous place, you can practically smell the divine scents of the baked goods. What a magnificent picture that the author paints for her readers as she draws you into her magical paradise of Sweetopia. @Brandy Rymer 03/2024
