Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 1) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Maura Harper

Fisher of MenFisher of Men by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have been reading this series out of order and I’m so glad to finally get to Leah and Cap’s story. First of all, I read a “warning” somewhere that said “This is NOT a Christian Romance” – I appreciate whoever wrote that because in the first few pages, that’s exactly what I thought I was going to be reading. (I had not read the warning before hand) There is a very strong religious “tone” in this story that, at times, had me scratching my head about where it was trying to lead me.

This is a story of conflicts. Where do one’s beliefs come from and how much influence does the religion of our childhood gel with the religion of our adulthood. An interesting premise. As we follow the story from beginning to end, we see the MC allow herself to be pulled in different directions depending on who she is talking to. “I hate feeling like I am a bad Christian or a hypocrite, you know?”.

I have a hard time with the characters. Initially I didn’t like Leah very much. There was just something about her that rubbed me the wrong way. She was a lovely people pleaser who always put others needs before her own. She has an immaturity about her that belies her age. For someone who is so “worldly” in the ways a business runs she sure was innocent about the world. “…swingers? It seemed like a mythical construct to her like Santa Claus or Bigfoot, instead of the real thing. hahahaha Cap is a strong, domineering man that I felt was a little too strong handed and almost whiny.

While this was not my favorite book of the series, I appreciate the tale the author weaves. Perhaps if I had read this story ANY other time than October of 2018, I would have had a completely different reaction to it. Which is why I’ve rated it the way I did. The author does a fantastic job of telling a story that has meaning, depth and weight to it while setting up the rest of the series. Nice job!!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers #1) by Phoebe Alexander. This is the first book of this type I’ve read. I enjoyed it even though it was out of my comfort zone. It’s the story of Leah Miller a good Christian girl brought up in a very religious home. She has worked really hard and become the Assistant General Manager of The Pearl one of Ocean City’s nicest Hotels. During a party at The Pearl Leah meets Chris “Cap” Sheldon a Charter Fishing Captain and sparks instantly fly. Cap is very free sexually and Leah is not. Can the two come together, can Leah become more adventurous or can Cap settle down for Leah. Leah’s faith is so strong can she reconcile with this lifestyle or will Cap give it up because he’s fallen for Leah. This was a very sweet, sexy story.

Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 1) by Phoebe Alexander
5 out of 5 stars

I do not give out a lot of 5 stars. A book must really touch my soul, be incredibly well written, and/or have an a major impact on me to get 5 stars from me. This book has more than earned the 5 stars. Fisher of Men is an erotic romance novel, it’s erotic in the sense and there are some very raunchy parts in it but it’s not as graphic as a blue movie from www.fulltube.xxx. This first in this series and it came crashing through the front door. Leah Miller, daughter of a Preacher Man (Praise Be to Aretha) was raised in a very conservative, Christian household. I would almost call it claustrophobic with its rules and regulations. But instead of following in the parent chosen life, she branched out into Hotel Management and took a job on the East Coast with a hotel called, The Pearl, where she figured she would learn about how the rest of the world live. There she meets and falls for a man aptly named Cap, or Capt Chris Sheldon, who, after attending one of the famous parties hosted by The Pearl, she learns…is a swinger.

This plot, while extreme, has some very relatable characters. Leah and Chris are both very loveable and extreme fun. Chris is super hot. I pictured a Chris Hemsworth look alike in my head, but I also can admit to a small obsession with the Aussie. Ms Alexander has done an incredible job keeping the reader engaged, yet not rushing the story. Her book is both complex, yet delicate in its simplicity that it is a love story. This book is highly recommended for readers of romance, erotic stories and just fans of Phoebe Alexander.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Catch (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 2) by Phoebe Alexander. While this is book two you can read it as a standalone without any questions or confusion. I knew by who wrote this book and the description that I’d like this book, but in all honesty that’s not where it stops. I absolutely loved this book and the amazing characters in it. From page one the main character Paisley drags you into her world. This story is definitely steamy but it’s also a bit suspenseful and I love that in a book. The author does a wonderful job of keeping all aspects of the story equal and well written. The characters are complex and flawed making them both believable and relatable to readers. The author is amazing at writing a story that can come alive before your eyes and make you forget you’re just reading a book. I’m giving this book a five star review and can’t wait to read more!

Fisher of Men is the first book in the Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. This book is a wonderful, interesting and informative contemporary romance that explores the world of swinging- and what happens when a minister’s daughter meets a sexy swinger.
To many, this story may seem way out of your comfort zone, but I encourage you to keep an open mind and dive in, because you will be pleasantly surprised by what you find between the covers of this beautiful story. Yes, this book does have the swinging element to it, and while that is an important part of the plot, there is so much more to this wonderful love story. I love how Ms. Alexander blended the swinging lifestyle of our leading male character, with the religious/spiritual beliefs of our leading female character; then sprinkled some emotion, curiosity, struggles, drama, acceptance, passion, erotica, and angst into the mix- and produced a fantastic, well balanced and sex-positive story that drew me in right from the get-go.
This book is nothing like I thought it would be, and was deeper, sweeter and more meaningful than I had expected.
Another great read from this superb author!

Thank you, Ms. Alexander!

The Navigator: A Mountains Trilogy NovelThe Navigator: A Mountains Trilogy Novel by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Navigator is heart wrenching. To know someone like Garrett, someone so lost and completely out of hope, is heart wrenching. Alexander does a fantastic job of creating this character so that the reader can feel his pain and despair as well. I sure did!

Anjuli is the coolest name ever. This character is an older woman, 40’s, smart, dedicated and strong. I could relate to Anjuli as a woman and a mother. We women tend to do things because we must, simply because there is no one else to do it. This character is no different. Anjuli is strong and free and reading about her makes me smile and gives me hope.

Fate leads these two characters to meet. They literally bump into each other. Not cliché at all, actually, more sweet and innocent than cliché. What starts out as a “friends with benefits” situation turns into something more. With the twisting family dynamics and hot sex scenes this book is all that and a bag of chips! And can we add in there Garrett’s hot sexy roommate!

As with Alexander’s other books, The Navigator must be read with an open mind. Some situations aren’t for everyone, but man does she make them worth reading!

The Navigator is A Mountains Trilogy novel by Phoebe Alexander. I loved the Mountains Wanted Trilogy- that series of books are one of my favourites by Ms. Alexander, so when I saw she had written another book as part of that series, I knew that I just had to read it. But I wasn’t sure how this story would fit in to the series and if there would be any connections between them, and because it has been a few years since I had read Mountains Wanted- I decided that this would be a great time to revisit those books before diving into this one! So, here I am, 5 books later- and I have to say that I still love those books so much and I am really glad that I reread the other 4 books before starting this one. But, you really don’t have to have read the other books to really enjoy this one- you could just read it as a standalone without feeling like something is missing (although you would be missing out on some really great books).
This story touches and explores so many elements- each one on its own could be interesting- but combined into such a wonderful story- well, it’s like crack for a romance addict. The book is so much more than I thought it would be. The blurb is good, but it really doesn’t convey just how compelling the story is, or how heartfelt, meaningful and emotional this experience is. I mean, she had me at bearded man and Mountains Trilogy- but add in bisexual romance, Indian Heroine, interracial romance, older woman/younger man, and more- still doesn’t even begin to convey how much this story will imprint itself in your heart and mind. Not to mention the sizzle factor is off the charts!
The story flows well and has a great pace. I read it in one sitting. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Alexander does next!

Thank you, Ms. Alexander!

I was not sure what to expect when I started this book and I didnt really care because hey, its Phoebe Alexander so if her name is on it..I read it 🙂

I will say that I was blown away..a storyline like I’ve never read, it wasn’t all wine roses and cupcakes and the characters weren’t rich and perfect. I fell in right at the beginning and was hooked, so much so that real life and adulting didn’t enter my mind while reading. I’ll be honest I don’t normally read anything m/m, f/f, or much m/m/f but the way this author handled it all in this story just felt natural, like nothing was at all different, feelings are feelings and I walked away from this book in awe!

There was a lot going on, and my feelings towards Nav completely confused me at first…I kept asking myself, Is this a good guy or am I going to totally hate the main character of this book…Well as it turned out I absolutely loved him, he is probably the most broken main character I’ve ever read about and my heart hurt for him, and some of the decisions he made were not the best and I had a few SMH moments with him. Then there was Anjuli, again when I first met her I was thinking hmmm..am I going to like her, well yes I also fell in love with her and although not quite as broken as Nav she still had issues she dealt with as well.

As I said, there is alot going on in this story, but I got so invested in it so early on that I never lost track, I couldn’t put it down and the addition of some of the players that came into the story just added that much more for me. I’m not going to go into anything about this storyline..it needs to be gone into blindly like I did it…

This author is an auto one click for me, she is beyond amazing and this might just be my favorite by her so far, I highly recommend for anyone over 18 and also highly recommend you have a fan blowing on you at all times because there are some scenes where you will need that blowing on extra high!! 🙂

LOVED IT!! This author is brilliant!!

This is one of my favorite authors and I loved this book. I love how I am able to be pulled in right from the beginning. Garret’s story will show you that sometimes bad things happen to open up a door for something awesome. I loved his character. I had so much compassion for him, just when good happens for him, life happens. His chemistry with Juli is off the charts and I really wanted to see them have a HEA but you will have to read this book to find out. I highly recommend this book!

In my opinion it says a lot about an author when she has a series out that deals with something I don’t understand or want to understand as far as the swinger lifestyle yet I find myself not being able to wait for each book in that series. I love the people in this series and their stories, but what I love the most is this author’s way of telling these stories.

I don’t read f/f, yet I loved this book. I connected with Jessie immediately and loved everything about her. It took me a bit longer to connect with Sirena, I just had trouble trusting her and it took hearing her complete story to totally understand her. I loved checking back in with all of the characters from the first 2 books and now can not wait for Casey’s story.

I only picked this book because of the author as she has become a definite favorite of mine and I highly recommend anyone that hasn’t read her books to pick one and read it and I just know you will love her as much as I do.

Siren Call (Eastern Shore Swingers Series Book #3) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Angela Hayes

Siren CallSiren Call by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Siren Call is the third book in the Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. This story could be read as a standalone, without feeling like you are missing anything. Having said that though, the other books are well worth the read, they are great stories on their own, but also introduce other characters who appear in this story too. This is an erotic F/F romance with some drama and mystery.
This book is nothing like I thought it would be. I wasn’t sure about the F/F aspect to the story, not that I don’t like it, so much as it’s hard to find a good one with a story that has some substance, as well as some spice. I shouldn’t have doubted it though, because I know Ms. Alexander is such a talented author and always produces a memorable and entertaining read. She writes beautifully and has a relaxed, detailed and descriptive style that embraces you and guides you into the heart of her story.
Jessie Martinez is a Police Officer doing a favour for some friends. They ask her to look out for one of their club members. It’s not really such a bother, because the club member in question has caught Jessie’s attention, and she’s more than attracted and intrigued. There is definitely more to the situation than meets the eye and Jessie is determined to discover what it is.
Sirena joined the club as a way to escape. A distraction and diversion from her painful memories and the heartache she’s endured. She wasn’t going to ‘crack’ so easily. But the more she gets to know Jessie the weaker her defences were becoming. What is she hiding? What happens when her secrets are revealed? What does fate have in store for them? You really must read the story and find out all the incredible details, because I don’t want to give away any spoilers her.
I love these characters, they are so lovingly crafted- fully developed individuals who are realistic and totally believable.
The story is passionate, erotic, emotional, interesting and entertaining. I loved how Ms. Alexander was able to bring the whole story to life and give it energy, heart and soul. I also appreciate sex-positive and body-positive messages that Ms. Alexander promotes through her storylines. This book is definitely a real showcase for/of the authors writing skills.
I can’t wait to read the next book and find out what happens.

Thank you, Ms. Alexander!

Wow! Hot and sexy. I’m not sure who my girl crush is on more: Phoebe Alexander or Jessie.

This story is a female/female romance. Not your everyday boy meets girl with rainbows and unicorns. No this story has swingers, lesbians, bi-sexuals and maybe if you’re looking, you might find a straight lover. It has mean girls and a mystery that makes this story a page turner.

Jessie is our main character and is a hot girl cop who meets our other main character, Siren, who is a hot mess of a mystery. The other characters are Paisley, Cap, Alvin and Leah who are all from the first two books, but each story can be a standalone. My opinion though is to start with the first book, Fisher of Men, because the Eastern Shore Swingers Series is worth starting at the beginning.

Phoebe Alexander has written another great body-positive story with sex-positive characters. While the reader may not be a swinger or even open about their own sexuality, Alexander leads the reader to believe that all people deserve happiness and love.

Really good story line that makes me want to keep reading anything Phoebe Alexander puts out!

This story is about the mysterious Sirena who has secrets and a past she would rather keep to herself but as we find out more about her we see a connection like no other between Sirena and Jessie. Ummm, Holy Moly what a book!! What a great start to this series…I wasn’t sure how Id like this story just because of the lifestyle choice being chosen, and although not a choice I could ever make because I just can’t imagine the sharing part, I have to say this was written in a way that I could almost understand how this choice would be made.

David and Valley were happily married in every sense of the word, but they were curious and with Valleys sense of adventure and her insatiable needs David would do just about anything to make her happy, and he was a little curious as well.

Living on a cul de sac with other families who Valley was convinced had already formed their opinions about her, which she was pretty much fine with because she knew she would never be the coffee drinking lularoe wearing soccer mom that the rest of them were, made making friends a little hard. She didn’t know how to be discreet or fake and was never one to beat around the bush. We follow David and Valley as they explore something more, while still trying to be good parents to their two children. Can even the strongest marriage survive in this new lifestyle they are considering, and what will happen when the people in their small town catch on to it?

I loved both of these characters. Valley was awesome and I loved how she mothered her children, and loved her husband and how secure she was with who she was and offered no apology to anyone that couldn’t accept that.

I can not wait to continue this series, its going to be interesting reading different perspectives from different authors. I think this is an amazing idea, but just focussing on this one right now…This is my second read by this author and I can not wait to read more from her, this was awesome!!!

The Archer’s have just moved to Juniper Court and are trying to fit in. Trouble is Valley is having a hard time doing that with the females in her area. When an out of the blue comment is made during a heated and oh so sexy time, Valley wonders if there is more to this comment than just words. After some research she decides to see where this could go and stumbles upon Project Paradise.

Project Paradise (The Juniper Court Series) by Phoebe Alexander is part of The Juniper Court series that is written by various authors. I have also read the second book in this series and I loved it. I highly recommend this book and this series. This book is not for anyone under the age of 18, it will certainly heat you up! This is my favorite book of this authors. It pulled me in right from the start and I couldn’t put it down until I read The End! Her writing style is easy flowing and engaging. Her characters pull you into the story with ease. They are connectable and lovable. This is the story of Valley and David. They have just moved to Juniper Court. David is always urging Valley to make friends with the other moms. But you see, Valley is not like other mothers, she doesn’t enjoy the things they do. She is highly sexed and wants lots of it. This is what urges her to check the internet out about swing. She then becomes determined to make her basement into a swinger paradise but at what cost? She doesn’t care what anyone thinks about their lifestyle but she does wonder if there are others in her community that are swingers. Is this a lifestyle that their marriage is strong enough to take or will fate have something else in mind for them? There is no doubt that this book is hot and steamy! At the beginning I didn’t really care so much for Valley. I thought she was selfish and not a very good parent. I have no doubt that she loves her children and just has a different way of things. I loved watching her grow throughout this story and she has no filter to her mouth. She is a strong character and independent but she could work on her people skills. David is a sweet man who loves Valley so much that he pretty much goes with the flow with her until he couldn’t anymore. They took me on an emotional roller coaster ride that had me laughing one minute and needing ice water the next. They also took me on a few twists and turns that you won’t necessarily see coming but I needed to find out what happened next. The secondary characters are just as connectable and lovable. There are a couple that I didn’t care for their attitude towards Valley but they are true to life and made the story flow. This is a must read story and series!

I really really liked this book! This story is a risqué kind of story and the reader must be open minded, at least sexually open minded. Project Paradise gives you a look into a different lifestyle than most books.

The main characters, Valley and David, are a seemingly happily married couple looking to make a change. I liked Valley most of the time. I could see her insecurities hiding just below the surface. Her husband David though I am not so sure about. Sometimes he seemed almost perfect and then other times, completely closed off. I am sure he is a complete heart breaker. Some of the choices that Valley and her husband David made will not be everyone’s cup of tea. But that’s ok because variety is the spice of life! The cul-de sac that is the setting for most of this story has its typical soccer mom and PTA parents that made me laugh out loud at the accuracy. We are given a very small sneak peek into the other families/people on the cul -de-sac.

Since this is a series like no other I have read…I am seriously having a hard time waiting for the other books. Will the other stories be just as awesome? Can not wait to see what the others really think of Valley (love that name by the way) and David. What secrets could the neighbors be hiding?!

To me personally this book is a complete fantasy because I don’t think I could ever be like Valley. And that’s ok. This story was still an excellent read. I also found this book to be hot and funny and scary. Scary in the way being vulnerable makes you feel. Alexander uses her character, Valley, to teach us not to judge others and to have better communication with not just those we are intimate with but with those closest to us.

The title, Project Paradise, sounds like a goal we should all have. Everyone’s paradise is different and again that’s ok.

I highly recommend this story!

This is my first book by this author and will not be my last. This story was written very well and had somewhat of a smooth flow. I guess if I had any issue with the writing it would only be that there was quite a few paragraphs that were completely descriptive of the surroundings or thoughts that interrupted a conversation. I personally don’t need all that in a book, but I know a lot of people like to get the feel of the surroundings while reading. Although it was written very well, I found myself skipping over those paragraphs. This is just personal preference and takes nothing away from the beautiful writing style of this author.

I loved the characters. I felt Cap and Leah were both described in a way that didn’t leave you wondering who they were. Cap lives a lifestyle that I have no understanding of and although I loved him for the man he was, I didn’t like the lifestyle choice, again just personal preference. Leah I could understand a lot more as I wasn’t raised the same way, but my beliefs are pretty much the same. I could definitely understand the battles she had going on inside herself. I knew what I wanted to happen at the end of this book early on and although it didn’t happen exactly the way I wanted it to, it was enough to make me want to read the next in the series.

I really can’t wait to check out the rest of her books, this book dealt with something I don’t understand or agree with, but to me it says a lot about an author’s talent that these few things I wasn’t crazy about still has me adding her to my authors to follow list.

Fisher of Men by Phoebe Alexander is the first book in the Eastern Shore Swingers series and is the first book that I have read by her. Phoebe did a good job of writing an interesting story on an alternate lifestyle. Her attention to details and her writing style makes it easy to read and keeps the story flowing and will keep you engaged until the end.

Leah is a professional and knows how to get the job done. You need something, she’s got it. Want something a little different, she’s on it. But when it comes to men and dating, nope, not so much. Leah is also frustrating, to the point at times, that you want to smack some sense into her but she is also funny and very entertaining. If only she would stop running. I found her to be a bit childish given her age and reaction to things but I guess that could be attributed to her upbringing.

Cap is easy on the eye and when he spots the beautiful Leah he starts to think what if’s. However, will his lifestyle scare her off? Will she be open to what he wants to share? Will he be able to give up what he enjoys and keep her too? Will her upbringing cause trouble in paradise?

The story line kept me on edge trying to guess what was going to happen next. Love is never easy but especially so when alternate lifestyles come into play but keeping an open mind and communication should make it easy right? If you like something a little different than your normal romance and something a little taboo, then this is the story for you, it was a very interesting read.

Fisher of Men is a story to be read with an open mind. And maybe while you are alone. No children in sight. No distractions. This is a very sexual story, so if you like your books a little taboo then this one is for you. If you are a vanilla kind of person when it comes to sex and preferences, then you should read this book with a notepad and a pen along with that open mind mentioned before!

Phoebe Alexander gives us the story of Leah. She is the preacher’s daughter. She is a very sexual person, trying to find her way in life and in the bedroom.

“I don’t know what’s the bigger miracle, conception and birth or just life itself, the way we figure
out how to survive despite everything stacked against us.”

Alexander shows us that working hard, believing in yourself, trying new things can lead to a happily ever after even if the road there is a little bumpy!
I enjoyed this story (because I have an open mind, especially while reading). This is not my first story by Alexander and won’t be the last. Fisher of Men is actually book one in the Eastern Shore Swingers series. Book Two is The Catch. I am hoping there will be more, maybe Casey needs her story told! Or Leah’s bff, Aimee!

Finally!! A story about a big girl! A happy, confident big girl! Paisley is a serious, hardworking, sexy, big girl. She really doesn’t take crap from anyone and doesn’t care what people think. If only there were more people like Paisley in the real world! Paisley would make a great BFF, she could probably even convince “vanilla” people to try other “flavors”!
And then there’s Calvin…swoon…Calvin is patient, kind, dedicated. Did I say patient? Even his “caramel-colored skin” makes Phoebe’s “girly bits” excited, he looks like one of those hunks on www.tubev.sex. His “vanilla” way of life is not the usual turn off for Paisley, so when these two become friends anything is possible!
Other characters that enter Paisley’s life through out this story are Cap, Leah and Casey, all three are Paisley’s bosses at The Club. Trent, Jason and Alison also bring out the Paisley everyone knows. While walls are built around Paisley’s heart, she loves others unconditionally. Will there be someone who can break through? Can they accept Paisley for her past and her present?
Phoebe Alexander writes a fun, adventurous romantic mystery with a twist. This story takes a few taboo subjects, (sex, therapy and weight issues) and makes them a little less taboo. Looking forward to what else I can read from Phoebe Alexander.
