This book focuses on the magic in the everyday; meaning your actions and reactions to others, as well as how you control your state of mind and thoughts.

As a society we have lost touch in what it means to practice self-care, it is not just a hot bath or a long walk; it is focusing and figuring out your true self and changing state of mind on your own. The notions of centering your mind and reconnecting with your soul are lost in this era social media, as an audience is always there for every experience and sharing every time self-care is accomplished.

The intro to the book says that no matter how this book has entered your life, it is a sign and meant to be. Man, is it ever a sign! I highly recommend this book for anyone who can read, especially with all the constant changes and uncertainty the pandemic has brought into our lives.

I really enjoyed this take on self-help. The author gives recommendations and follows up with her personal experiences and journey with each aspect, and is frank when something will be hard and admits to pitfalls. She brings us on a journey to help find the feminine (not just talking about gender, but the emotion) being within ourself so we can nurture it and be open to the magic in the everyday and the universe’s way of guiding us to happy.

I enjoyed the structure of the book, with the chapters being succinct and exemplifying exactly what is meant. The breakdown within each chapter is also clear and concise, allowing the reader to follow along easily. I thoroughly enjoyed the encouragement to sit back and reflect on what I had read and learned with the guided questions. It allows the reader to stop and think how the aspects talk about can be applied in our own life and how that can help to bring overall peace by living with the magic around us.

This is a self-help book I will be happy to go back and read again when needed, and one I will be recommending to others when they find themself in a rut.

This book definitely opened my eyes up to bring more self care into my life. I do not have to feel guilty or selfish for taking time for myself and to go to the gym. The book could have been a little shorter but it gave a lot of examples where and how to improve myself even if it is just a little change here and there. I dont feel the need to be in uncomfortable situations. If you want a quick read about changing the little things in life to make for a bigger and happier picture then definitely pick this book up.

Practically Pagan is a guide to rediscovering your passion for life and the skills you need to look after yourself, it starts with Maria DeBlassie talking about her life and how she realised that she had disconnected from herself and how this is not just from being a bruja, it is from her culture and heritage as well. She goes on to talk about how important finding the magic in the everyday actions each of us may take for granted this can include cooking a home cooked meal, taking a walk somewhere that brings you peace or even those daily chores which have to be done and how turning these into something deeper and more meaningful through infusing them with a little magic can make the world of difference. It is using simple tools to enrich and reconnect you to life in all its highs and lows, it isn’t expensive or hard to find, it is just using what is around and within you.

The book starts with explaining what everyday magic is and what can block it from engaging with you, then it moves on to talking about the Goddess within and how radical self care can bring her back to the fore and how to do this through making routine into ritual. Pleasure is the next section and how finding joy in the everyday is as important as looking into the shadows and finding joy there too, how to explore what brings you joy and also what brings the opposing emotions and tensions into it as well. Finally, she talks about how being open to the synchronicities in life can lead to living beyond the expected and how little by little, things will start to flourish as the path you are on becomes the one you were meant to travel.

This book is an inspirational way to finding yourself and what makes you happy and magical in everyday life, it is about what needs to be learned and unlearned through experience, hard work and determination to bring you back to you and thus the magic within you as well.

This book is delightful! I had so much fun from start to finish, and the author is excellent at combining her real-life personal stories with magical encouragement. If you are interested in magic, or already practice, this book would be a great guide to add to your shelf. I’ve read this author before, and she never fails to pull me in and hold my imagination captive as I flip through the pages. As always, I found this book to be too short and could have read so much more. I highly recommend this book to anyone with 5 stars.

I found this book really interesting to read. I was presently surprised when I read this book as I imagined it would be full of spells and tricks. However the ‘spells and rituals’ all revolved around a new way of thinking and a way of taking time to think and appreciate the life you have.
It was really special to read about how to find magic in every aspect of your life, even mundane everyday tasks can produce magic if you look at it the right way.

This book was informative and definately makes you think about the way you see and approach your life. It’s full of stories from the authors experience but also has tips for people to use to implement these teachings in their own lives.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author.

This book is the first of its kind that I’ve read. It has opened my eyes and I will be looking forward to more books. There were a ton of quotes I could’ve chosen, but one stuck out. The quote I chose for this book is: “Everyday magic is just that—simple, accessible ways to conjure abundance, happiness, and health.”

Highly recommended for non-fiction and self-help lovers.

I really enjoyed reading this book! I generally don’t read books like this, but I was drawn to it. I am dating someone who is pagan and the title drew me in. I was hoping for more information and was not disappointed. It kept me interested and answered questions, while showing different ways to see magic in everyday life. I have always believed that there is magic in the world and reading this book reinforced that fact.

The real magic is within the pages of this lovely book. Simple ways to turn the everyday into something to rejoice. Filled with anecdotes and wisdom, I am thankful to be reminded of the pleasure and yes, magic to be found inside my own life. I really liked the insights shared from the author’s own experience, and how by incorporating the rituals contained in this book, she found her own true path. Find your own balance within the pages of this lovely reminder… There is more.

Practically Pagan: An Alternative Guide to Magical Living focuses strongly on how magic takes place everyday. When practicing magic it’s important to realize that it’s not always complex, but it’s also never easy work. Magical Living also discusses how each of us hold different magic inside of us based on our ancestral and cultural magic so it is important to have a strong recognition of where we come from and what we are wanting from our magical selves.

The book is broken into sections of Everyday Magic ranging from self-care to exploring for the unexpected. However, the book itself is a lot of the unexpected. I went in thinking I would be finding ways to live in my magic, grow in my magic, and overall strengthen my magical through everyday living. What I got is definitely different. It breaks down what we think we need to know, what we need to unknow, and how we can break free from some of the things tying our magic down.

It definitely falls more into a self-help style of writing for the busy, exhausted witch offering small ways we can alter our lives to live more magically. This title helps show us ways to create balance between the mind, body and soul as well as the life around us. It offers guiding questions to help process the reading and gain stronger insight to your thoughts and desires about what you want.

In the Introduction, the author states immediately that if you’re reading this book it’s because the book called to you. As I was reading the chapters, it became clear that while I’m not mestiza, this book is definitely written for witchy individuals in similar situations as me.

This book has definitely made it into my rereading pile for the times I need a refresher in believing in myself as well as the idea that I can do hard things. I am looking forward to taking in the information I can find in the other Practically Pagan titles.

As a spiritual person, the title of the book piqued my interest. Right before stumbling upon it, I found myself browsing the aisles of my local bookstore loading up on pens, journals and looking for that perfect book that would resonate. I really appreciated the author’s view and personal tie in the information she offered throughout the book’s pages. Some of the suggestions and points surrounding magic in your everyday life were things that I had promised myself I would start being more mindful of. The timing of this book couldn’t have been more perfect and I highly recommend it to those looking for a daily dose of subtle magic.

Practically Pagan is a very accessible and wonderfully written book. DeBlassie guides us to find magic in the everyday, and to learn how to tune in to our inherent wisdom and intuition. She shares her journey to slowing down, discovering what nurtures or saps her energy, and how she’s found joy in charting her own path. Her voice is honest and gentle; it feels like a wise woman having a chat with you, inviting you to listen to your heart and live a life of intention. This book is a breath of fresh air in a world of Busy and judgement. I really enjoyed this work, and definitely recommend it for anyone who needs some inspiration for tuning in to joy and lightness in their life.

This wasn’t quite the book that I was expecting to read. I was expecting a fiction work of art to magical living, but instead found out I was reading an actual guide to practicing magic. I found this to be quite an informative read. In fact, I would label this as a self-help guide. The author does a great job of helping to “guide” you in the world around you and how to help find the magic in yourself. This is not a magic guide that is going to teach you spells but teach you how to find the magic within. The author wove a lot of her own personal stories into the book to help show you how to make yourself happy and healthy. While not what I was expecting to read or something I would usually pick up, this was a great read into myself to help me find some inner peace.

As someone that was looking for a little bit of more magic in my daily life, I thought that this book was a must read. I was not disappointed with the insight and advice the author gives throughout the book. The book is full of practical advice on how to incorporate magic into your everyday living by doing small things. She explains to us that there is magic in the everyday things that we might overlook and tells us to seek joy and experience magic in the things that we might otherwise take for granted and consider boring. She teaches us how to connect with ourselves, practice self-care and live a life of joy. As the author says after all, true magic is in the everyday. And yes, it truly is.

I loved reading this book and how the author laid things out in such a simplistic manner. It was very easy to read and very well laid out. It was a nice reminder to not take life for granted and to just find joy in the moment. We all need to slow down and experience joy in the little things that we do, savor the moment and live life. I found it was also helpful to learn about other methods of self-care that were a little bit different than the typical ones that you hear about all the time like lighting scented candles or having a relaxing hot bath. I will be taking this advice to heart and practicing magic in the moments that each day brings. This is a must read for anyone that’s just looking for a way to slow down and bring joy back into their lives.

Not my normal read but a great reminder to take care of ourselves. This was not quite what I expected when I picked the book up. It was very interesting and a good reminder that little things make a difference in every day life. I had heard/read some of these things at other points in my live so this was a great reminder. Magic can be found anywhere you just have to look and this book will point you in the right direction.

Wow! Where was this book about 20 years ago? It was not what I was expecting to read, but boy, it was exactly what I NEEDED to read! Making magic out of the little things in life like knowing when too much people things are just too much too handle. I always thought I was alone in that after a few months of spending time with people, I needed a few months squirreled away in my quiet home to recuperate from the time and energy drain. It was so refreshing to learn that others like me have found a way to control the chaos of people and situations and set boundaries. I have just recently learned that saying no is not always a bad thing and sometimes the best thing for me at the time and to read that it is ok to do that, and experience magical living is amazing! This book has given me such insight into who I am and who I can become by listening to myself and living magically within my world. The author has such insight and emotions about her process that I in turn can follow through with my own journey and have faith that it will be perfectly wonderful in the end. Thank you, dear author, for sharing your life, love, and journey. It truly has been inspiring!

I think this book picked me! This is exactly what I needed when I didn’t know I needed it. I’ve always been interested in learning more about Paganism, but I didn’t know where to start and was often overwhelmed by all the choices. I think this book was an excellent first choice. It was a really great reminder that “magic” can be the simplest things in life. This author made this book so easy to read and understand, that I no longer feel overwhelmed by the idea of learning more.

The title of this book caught my interest and I have to say, I am happy it did. I am not into Tarot cards, putting crystals around my house, or other such rituals, but I thoroughly enjoyed the content of this book. As an introvert who is working to make my life something that makes me happy, I really enjoyed what the author had to say. It was a peaceful read and helped me start dreaming of things that I want in my life. I also like the layout the author used of addressing a topic and then discussing what she had to unlearn in order to make life better for her – societal restrictions or beliefs that we feel we need to follow but might not necessarily be right for us. Overall, it was a really good read. I have a relative in mind that I think could benefit from it, as well!

This book was definitely the most interesting book I’ve read all year. I’m usually attracted to books that have a story line but something about this book just called to me. I just had to read it and I’m glad I did.
I’ve been struggling with self care for years now and Practically Pagan showed me how magical living and self care kind of go hand in hand. I’ve learned a little more about myself while reading Practically Pagan. This book has helped me to think about what I’m going to do differently with my life in the new year.

I have never really been drawn to “magic” books, but this book kept calling to me. I love how the author tells us that books come into our lives when they are needed, and I need this book. One of the things I am working on in therapy is self-awareness and self-care. I liked the twist that no experience or special supplies needed, the world around us is magical. It was not what I think of when I think of magic, I still think of witches, spells, cauldrons, and black cats. What I think of magic now, is different, life around me is magical and I need to take care of it.

Practically Pagan An Alternative Guide to Magical Living by Maria Deblassie

I readily admit that a covers holds some major weight to whether or not I even pick up a book to see if it will hold interest to me, so when mere sentences into this book, Declassified touches on the very topic: “ …This book is magic. All books are. So much so that they are picky about who picks them up and reads them. They only want people ready to hear their message, kindred spirits eager to soak up their specific brand of magic.”
Thus begins our journey of gentle reminders that magic is not just something we read about or watch via our various sized screens but daily life, be it the magic of a sunset, a peaceful moment of self reflection and grounding ourselves in the simple moments of life. Deblassie reminds us that we are deserving of “pleasure magic” no matter how often society attempts to make us feel guilty to taking time to “tune into what soothes the soul and refreshes the senses without guilt, without shame, without comparing your journey to others.” A bit of a gut punch reality in this world of social “achievements”

5 stars!

This is not my usual genre, most of the time I don’t really put too much credence into thoughts like this, but throughout this whole book I really starting seeing things in a new light. I am officially on board to finding my magic! There are so many different ways to finding the magic within yourself and implementing it in your everyday life. What really stuck out to me was, “Do one thing each day that makes you happy.” and “That’s how magic works: dream it up, then work towards it.” Both are very simple and easy tasks that I can handle and make work for me in my life. One thing that really opened my eyes was the story of the ladybug stuck in the spider web. I would have never thought of the “synchronicity” of the situation like the author did and it really made me start to think about the little signals or signs I receive in my life. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend giving it a read, it will seriously change your outlook on creating magic in your life.

I am an avid reader. I picked this book because I wanted to learn about everyday ‘magic’ and how I could learn to bring more positivity into my life. I will say that the author definitely knows how to weave her own personal stories into life lessons for others. If you are looking for inspiration, a self-care guide, or are interested in learning more about the everyday wonders around you, this is one of the top ten books out there for that purpose. My three-star review is actually more of a 3.5 – while I enjoyed the bits and pieces of the book that spoke to me personally, I found it a bit lacking in the areas that I was hoping would explode off the page. There was history sprinkled in and some difficult subjects (for some), but that wasn’t what I was looking for or expecting when I decided to read. Just because it wasn’t necessarily for me doesn’t mean that it won’t be the perfect fit for someone else. Try for yourself and see – even if it’s not exactly what you were looking for, chances are there are some positive things you will take from it.

Okay I normally don’t pick up self help guru type books as a typical go to read, especially during the holiday season, but the moment I saw this author was putting one out especially centered around Pagan practices I knew that this was one I could not pass up. I am glad I didn’t hesitate and have since been ruminating on the wonderful contents that are between the covers of this gorgeous read. I have been reading this one slowly and taking notes, really taking in the lessons and the notes that I read along the way to heart. I look forward to purchasing a hard copy to make and even mark up in the future for a long time to come as well. This is one of those that I have a feeling will grace my bedside and be something to be enjoyed slowly and over time over and over again much like a journal. Her advice is like a good friend sitting down and having a casual conversation with you over a warm cup of cocoa. There are stories of the authors own personal experiences sprinkled throughout which makes the book more relatable. A lot of her tips are great for everyday life as well and can help to usher out some of the everyday toxicity that is unfortunately so prevalent in society. This is a must read for any pagan looking to strengthen their relationship with divinity and improve their personal practice.

As someone who is interested in magic, but not sure where to start, I found this guide to be a helpful start. It’s a reminder that we all need to break down the societal rules we take on everyday and unlearn the trauma that we have experienced, to find the spark within us. Although there were some spots of repetition, I found it useful and a great reminder as I worked my way through the guide. Easy steps for each portion of the guide helped to make learning everyday magic do-able and less daunting, especially as a newbie.
