I’ve read many books from this author and it’s not her usual type of book. They are usually filled with supernatural adventures. This was a quick read that was steamy and funny. When Emily told Desmond that her goldfish was named Dr. D, I was crying from laughing so hard. The characters at this hospital are the type that you will want to read more about. The only thing that prevented me from giving it a five star rating is that I felt the ending was rushed but other than that, this book was great.

The Bear at Midnight (Orkneyinga Murders Book 4) by Lexie Conyngham – Review by Jennifer Gordon

The Bear at Midnight (Orkneyinga Murders #4)The Bear at Midnight by Lexie Conyngham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical crime novel and quickly got into the story despite not having read the previous books in the series. The storyline is set on the Orkney Islands during the Viking era and the author does a great job at bringing this period to life and making the reader feel immersed in the setting. Thorfinn has to appoint a new leader at Buckquoy but bitter rivalries emerge and a woman dies. Ketil and Sigrid must then work together to discover who the killer is, and defend themselves. Luckily this is not the first time they have found themselves in the middle of a murder mystery. I liked the main characters and found them likeable and relatable and could definitely tell they had chemistry between them, even if they didn’t. The book is written from both of their points of view which helped make me feel engaged with them and the story. The storyline flowed well and the plot had me hooked till the last page. I am keen to read the previous books in the series now.

This is an original and interesting story that is so easy to read. I connected with this book straight away, especially the characters. I thought the were written so well. They just fit together. The connection between them was engaging and easy to believe. I really wanted to read more about them.
The story had a great balance of romance and fantasy. Neither overtook the other and for me that made the story better. This is a strong start to a new series and I am excited to see what else the author has in store for us.

Journeys Through AllCreation (Journeys Through Book 3) by James Talisman – Review by Desiree Ottinger

Journeys Through AllCreation (Journeys Through Book 3)Journeys Through AllCreation by James Talisman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book finds Matt’s journey taking a different path from Julia and Dan. He has to journey through different universes to save not only ours but also those in the MultiVerse. When his friends are kidnapped, he is greatly tested. His archenemies are trying to distract Matt from his purpose of saving the world. Will he be able to focus on what needs to be done and trust others to rescue his loved ones? Or will he let his emotions get the better of him?

I enjoyed this book as much as the others! It is a fascinating read in how you see past characters come back into the story and how timelines feed into the completion of their paths. I appreciated reading the thoughts of the characters as they face challenges and how they also give different perspectives in conflict. I felt like by reading their thought processes, my way of thinking was challenged.

Hopefully, we will see more stories by this author!

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was so impressed with her writing style. The story were written in a way that easily caught my attention and then held it throughout. I enjoyed premise of the story as well. It had more depth to it than a lot of stories within this genre which was nice to see. This is a great start to a new series and I am looking forward to what is to come next.

I loved this take on a historical romance novel. It is the first time I have read a book that is done in this manner. I felt like the author really transported me as the reader to this time.
The characters are everything in this story. The whole thing really is about them and their journey. I was lost in their story from start to finish. This book is well written and interesting. I think this is definitely my favourite by this author so far.

Tomb for an Eagle (Orkneyinga Murders #1)Tomb for an Eagle by Lexie Conyngham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

On Orkney’s, a resident of the local village is going about their day to day business when they are informed of an animal being somewhere it shouldn’t be and that they will need to go retrieve it before dark. When they get there, however, instead of finding the animal, they find a body, a body which has been buried using the old ways.

When the village leader is notified, a party go down to the burial site and retrieve the body, however, nobody knows who they are or who may have killed them, so the villagers try to figure it out.

Meanwhile, Thorfinn Sigudarson is returning to his Earldom in Orkney and Caithness from his latest trip, only to find that there has been a killing on the island and that it has brought with it ghosts from his past. This is neither welcome or expected for Thorfinn and so he has both a mystery to since and a past to revisit in order to secure his future, but will he be able to do it all, or with his past catch up with him first?

This is a historical fiction centred around a crime which nobody has claimed and a mystery he is reluctant to solve in case his own skeletons are revealed.

There are a few good words to describe this book. Hot! Steamy! Funny, the laugh out loud kind as well as Heartfelt. Oh and Steamy gets it twice as Dr. Desmond Danielson is just that HOT and STEAMY. Having said that, Dr. D is a pediatrician and one that not only do the kids like him. So do the women working around him. He is just down right loveable, and puts his patients first, before play. Emily works in the ER. She is a good hearted woman who has an attraction to the children in the ER. She is their comfort as they wait for their parents to arrive. Now for the author! This author writes and describes her characters perfectly. She set her story up on the first page and keeps you reading. While this book seems like a short story, it is just the beginning for this Series. I have read many stories from this author and have never been disappointed. Her story is well written and will leave you wanting more. I am looking forward to reading so much more from this author.

Finding new authors is one of my favorite past times. This was the first book I have read by this author and I have to say that I was not let down. I found that the author had a very good way of handling the subject matter she was using reference to in her story. I found that this topic was something I feel would benefit the age group that this book is aimed at. Even though I am older I could relate to the feelings and emotions that the lead character went through. I found this book to be very emotion stirring. I will definitely read more from this author. I really also recommend this for younge readers I am quite sure that they will relate to the main character and it may also help them to be able to talk about their problems.

This is the 2nd book I’ve read by this author and she is a phenomenal writer.  She writes the most beautiful interracial love stories.
I love that the language used in the story reflected the time period that the story was set in. I loved that when it came to some of the relationships, sex and sexuality there where some things explored in the story that could be considered taboo now and would have been highly taboo in that time period. Overall the characters were great, the storyline was great, such a good read. Can’t wait to read more stories like this.

I loved the blend of both the funny moments and the serious, it was the best of both worlds. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this Doctors of Eastport General series!

The Billionaire's Slave: Steamy Historical BWWM RomanceThe Billionaire’s Slave: Steamy Historical BWWM Romance by Stacy-Deanne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a really good historical BWWM romance by an author that I have enjoyed reading several times now. Historical romance is a genre that I’m now enjoying more and more but this book is different from those I have read before. This book is set in America in the time that black people were given their freedom.
I have to admit that when I started reading it, I found the use of the ‘n’ word quite hard to read, even though it was coming from a character of colour. I did realise however that this term was used at the time the book was set in and didn’t have the taboo element that is does now.
I did really enjoy reading Leon and Penny’s story. It was very interesting and entertaining to read of a romance between a white man and a black woman at this pivotal time in history and how others saw their relationship was very enlightening.
This is a very hot and steamy read, as once they get together, Leon and Penny can’t keep their hands off each other. So if you enjoy a hot steamy romance then this book is for you.

Journeys Through AllCreation (Journeys Through Book 3)Journeys Through AllCreation by James Talisman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having read and enjoyed the previous two books in this series I was eagerly looking forward to this third novel, and I was definitely not disappointed. In this story the exciting but dangerous adventure continues, with Earth and other worlds in the MultiVerse in danger of disappearing from reality. An ancient prophecy had foretold of diabolical plans of an “exceedingly intelligent and powerful being”. However, the outcome is unclear and so a mix of gods and mortals battle for the future of all creation. This wonderfully written novel is an exciting, enjoyable and engaging read with an original and complex storyline which had me hooked from start to finish.

The plot twists kept me gripped until the very last page, and I felt completely immersed in the story due to the authors descriptive narrative. The detailed world building brings the settings and characters vividly to life. I enjoyed ‘catching up’ with some familiar faces and also meeting some new ones. Each character is unique and had their own intriguing backstory which adds to the overall narrative. I couldn’t put this book down and thoroughly recommend it, although I would suggest reading the series in order for maximum understanding and enjoyment.

I am a long time fan of this amazing author, they always know how to pull you into the story, and give you that enjoyment you seek! This book was no different, I found it had a little bit of everything. I loved the characters as well as the plot. Fun and and engaging read!

The book was impossible to put down. Reading , I found there was more to Dr. D thank he wanted to be let on. He was a true mystery, but as with every mystery, there is something hidden that will eventually surface. I smiled a lot when reading this. It did not take me long, as I did not want to put it down. Loved the story and all the characters who intertwined with Dr. D! Wonderful read!

Highly recommend this book, it is a quick read and really brings on the sensational enjoyment with no holding back. The author is a must read as well, if you have not read their books as of yet. Once again I am very happy with their books, and most certainly enjoyed the heck out of this one!

I never can get enough of this amazing and their books! They always give so much, and keep you interested as you read. This one was no different. I loved the historical side to the story. The romance was true bliss, and was not forced at all. Really enjoyed this one.

For me, Leon and Penny were something I thought at first glance, that were never to have a chance with what they could have between them. i loved penny’s personality who could melt the coldest of hearts. And Leon who wanted what he saw and admired, but never expected his walls to crumble. The story was very engaging. The romance was very real and I enjoyed the build up and how things progressed. There was a lot of historical additions to the story that made it very realistic. Very much an amazing read!

This is for sure one of my most favorite books by this wonderful author. I really fell in love with the story and the characters. It was beautiful and haunting, and kept me in anticipation wanting more. I highly recommend this gifted author, and of course this amazing addictive book of a story!

This book kind of tears your heart out because it deals with the life of slaves and how hard it was in a way. The romance between Penny and Leon felt doomed from the start but he felt he could buy her because she was property. I felt a lot of emotions in reading this story because Rose and her mom adored Penny. They didn’t want to give her up. Penny had to go with the flow. She showed Falcon what love could be like. The whole slave thing was such a challenge. They found a way even with it being hard. Terrific book that I would recommend. It is definitely steamy so if you offend easily, it may not be for you. I would give it more than a 5 if I could. I loved it all.

This book is an amazing quick, witty, and steamy read. I gave this book 4 stars because I felt like the ending was rushed. The book has amazing flow throughout but the last two chapters seemed rushed. The story line is amazing. I felt like there could have been a little more elaboration as to where, why, and how in the last couple chapters. I am not giving away any spoilers and I do recommend this book to anyone needing a quick escape. The characters are amazing and funny. They have certain hang ups that they have to overcome by the end of the book, which does happen. This book did give me all the feels with Dr. D’s whole persona. He learned from the past and moved forward but it also gave a look as to what it means and how it feels when you let the people you love down. Emily is a fun loving and good hearted girl. She is very cautious and tends to hover in the realm of being safe. She does learn to let go a little and live. This is a humorous and quick read. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a couple hours of free time.

Spicy, steamy and romantic! I loved the plot of this being set in the hospital. I’ve worked in medical settings for a long time and it felt like being back there. The characters made me chuckle with the gossip. I loved them because they were very relatable. I felt like I was hanging with people I used to work with. I enjoyed seeing the two of them work through the trauma of previous relationships. A tad disjointed at times but it really did work. Well worth the one-click, I highly recommend. One of the things I enjoy most about this author is her writing style and her ability to pull me into the story from the beginning. This book is no different. This is a historical romance story that kept me turning pages to the end. The characters are not only connectable but also brought the story to life. They are strong, determined and have great chemistry. Their growth throughout the story made the story easy and entertaining to read. Leon is determined from the first time he has seen Penny to make her his. The one thing that pulls them together, could be the one thing that could tear them apart. This is a great story that I had a hard time putting down. I really enjoyed this book and what Leon and Penny brought to the story. This author did a great job of giving us details to make the story pop. I highly recommend this book, it is worth the pick up.

Humor, whit, and an exciting plot all enmeshed into this wonderful story. I found myself laughing out loud at Emily and her antics throughout the book as she was written in such a relatable way. The romance was steamy and well worth the anticipation. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The was a really lovely romance about two people who shouldnt be together by law but who defy all laws and opinions to be happy. Its set in a era when slave Labour was allowed. When white men owned black slaves. White men could sleep with their slaves but fall in love with them was a huge no.
That was until Penny and Leon met. Penny was a black slave for the Conrad family and when Mr Conrad had a debt to pay back to Leon , Leon chose to take payment in the form of Penny.

In his mind Penny would be easy to train to become his next bed partner but what he doesn’t expect is that she will make the rules and eventually steal his heart.

There are several twists and turns in this story which keeps the reader guessing if they will ever get their happy ever after. It also shines a light on life at that time and how hard it was for black people to have a free life. When you can’t love the person you want to because of legal and dire consequences it makes for a challenging and sometimes heartbreaking story.

Such a cute and great story. I loved reading about Desmond “Dr. D” and Emily. They are both pretty amazing and similar in some ways but also very different and it just works. I like how the story had romance but also played out the hospital part too, it was well balanced and well written. The Mesmerist was a great fantasy mystery read. The world building was fantastic, from the magic all the way to the country the story is set in. Jana was a well written protagonist, she gets thrown right into the thick of it quick into the book after the Queen was killed. She doesn’t have much time to think before she go into solving mode. Throughout the story, clues were introduced perfectly, just enough to keep you on the “who dun it” trail. I was continuously shocked and left wanting more at the end of each page. Jana is tested with truth, confidence, love, lust, lies and friendship throughout the book. The books leaves you satisfied with he resolution but leaves just enough open to allow for other books if decided. I would LOVE to have more books from this world and these characters.

Quick and nice read. I was sad this book wasn’t longer, and the ending seemed rushed but I was pleased with the ending, and happy with the story. My heart absolutely broke for Desmond, the way his family treated him was absolutely unacceptable. It really sucks that just because he is a doctor he should be able to cure anyone and everyone. Emily is a cool girl, her and Doctor D. are perfect for each other, she is exactly what he needs in his life to combat all the whispers and the hurt from his family. I really enjoyed their journey to get where they are at the end and look forward to more doctors to come.
