Untouched (The Cadence Duet Book One) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Robin Rankin

Cadence Untouched (Cadence Duet: A Second Chance Romance Book 1) by Dakota Willink

This is the first part of a two book series about Cadence Riley and how he world gets turned upside-down one summer while working at her family’s camp and worth every minute I spent listening to it.  I got so caught up in the story listening to Zachary Webber (one of my favorite male narrators) Lacy Laurel who is new to me.  They both were able to bring the characters to life in my mind and to be honest I haven’t stopped thinking about them and what’s going to happen next.

I’m so looking forward to listening to the second book and finding out what happens to both Cadence and Fitz over the years.

Beginnings and Endings is a collection of four short stories. Each one is unique, and really hits home as far as lessons that can be learned from them. The stories touch on how a single moment can change our entire lives. I enjoyed the stories and the length of each was appropriate. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. The last story is so so sweet!

The Girl and the Raven: a YA Paranormal Romance by Pauline Gruber – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

The Girl and the Raven (The Girl and the Raven #1)The Girl and the Raven by Pauline Gruber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lucy Walker is your typical fifteen year old girl who lives with her mum, but that is where her normality ends, she lives in a trailer park and her mum is an addict, she spends the household budget on beer and drugs, albeit she says she is trying to get clean and Lucy dreads it when she goes to school or anywhere because of the looks and taunts she receives. One evening, she is trying to get on with her evening when she hears tyres screeching up the path between the trailers and her worst fears come to pass when she finds her mum dumped on their front lawn, not moving and not breathing, btu when she asks her neighbour to call for an ambulance, it is already too late. After things settle down, Lucy then travels to live with her Uncles in Chicago, but it is not the reunion she was expecting, it is under much more sad circumstances than she hoped for, but as they walk through the airport to collect her suitcase, she bumps into a stranger and feels a strange jolt when they do, she thinks no more about it until she finds a note in the book she dropped asking her to meet them with a contact phone number.

The next morning she meets the neighbour who lives on the floor above, he is a hot young man with dark hair and brooding eyes, Lucy has never seen anyone so handsome and she cannot believe her eyes, so she becomes tongue tied and embarasses herself when he comes past her at the door to the apartment block. To make matters even more awkward she has to go shopping with her Uncles for some new clothes and it isn’t what she is used to doing so she is finding it hard to accept it, but they won’t take no for an answer. It isn’t all bad though when she makes some friends thanks to the girl who lives over the road inviting her to spend time with her friend circle, it is something Lucy has always wanted, but never managed to have. A few days later and things have started to properly sink in when she goes upstairs to see a friend who lives two floors up, the things she finds out from her are shocking and feel unreal to her, it turns out that she is half witch and half demon and that her life is going to be anything but the normality she so desires because of it, but when she finds out that her grandmothers pet raven is missing, she is really upset and a little angry.

Things seem to go from bad to worse when she goes into her room to find out that it has been broken into, but everyone around her says they want to protect her, but they won’t tell her what is going on, but it means that she can spend more time with her hot neighbour. Will Lucy be able to accept all the new information which is being thrown at her while trying to keep it all a secret from her friends at school, or will the darkness which resides within her take over and put everyone she loves at risk? This is a fantastic paranormal adventure where growing up isn’t as simple as it seems and secrets abound within a community of both a supernatural and human nature, as you are pulled along on a coming of age journey like no other.

Fans of time travel and multiple parallel plot lines will love this book!

Although confusing at first, you quickly are able to see all of our characters and keep track of everyone. It does take a moment to get going but once it starts it doesn’t stop.

All of the worlds are beautifully described and truly make you feel immersed where certain characters are.

Absolutely able to tell where the next book is going to start and can’t wait to see where it goes!

This was the first book I have read from K.G. Fletcher. This genre usually isn’t one I read but…HOLY COW! This book BLEW me out of the water! Journeys Through SpaceTime – James Talisman

4-stars

I’m going to start by saying that this is not my normal go to genre, however, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was nothing like I was expecting, which I loved!

It’s incredibly detailed (sometimes overwhelmingly so), complex & dynamic (with the many storylines and POV’s), well thought through and truly one a kind. Right from the beginning I was intrigued with the storylines and couldn’t wait to find out how they all came together, I was kept entertained the whole way through, sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to get all of questions answered.

This is the authors debut novel so obviously the first I’ve read but I look forward to reading more in the future! This was truly a journey and I would absolutely recommend it to others!

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by Kerry Baker

Lost Bastard Audio Book by India Kells is a Dark Sparrow Novel. This is one of those books that has a bit of everything – action, romance, bad boys and so much more. The story kick straight off with a bang and barely gives you time to catch your breath.

I was drawn to each of the characters for such different reasons and they really make the book interesting.

For me however what really tops this audio book into fantastic is the narrator. He absolutely nails all the different accents and personalities. I could clearly tell each of them apart and really got a feel for them all. I couldn’t stop listening to him narrate the book.

This is fantastic book by a brilliant author and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The Myder Bird Tattoo by Julia Colbourn is a well written and intriguing story that is different from most books I have read. I found myself easily pulled into this story as I wanted to know more about the world and what could be going on. The hierarchy and the monarchy I found really interesting to see unfold.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I thought the plot was well developed and the characters all had great parts. The story felt original and was written in a way that kept my interest throughout. I throughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.

Revenge (Least Likely Suspect Book 1) by Cooper McKenzie – Review by Amanda Lundin

Least Likely Suspect: RevengeLeast Likely Suspect: Revenge by Cooper McKenzie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was so fun to read. Initially I found it hard to connect and be interested as the main character is a grief stricken widow in her 50s that likes to knit and sing in the church choir;. I’m happy to report I was wrong.

Mama Sam is a badass. Samantha is my new goal; not my “I want to be her in 20 years goal”, she’s my I want to be like her now goal. Sam is strong mentally, physically, and morally. She analyzes each situation and person to make the best judgement for justice as possible; but she’s real about the outcome. The author, Cooper McKenzie, didn’t just throw her into scenes to do the badass things and call it good, she made her FEEL them. She values life and suffers from the just consequences that are dealt, and I think that is a real game changer in a book, for a character to actually have emotions and succumb to them, then of course continue to be a badass.

The other characters in the book were also great and quirky; I’m interested to read on and see what other adventures await Sam and the team.

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by Bobbi Wagner

This is an author I have enjoyed from the first book of hers I picked up.  I was excited to pick up this audible.  I enjoyed the narrator’s voice and how they gave life to the characters.  With the changing of voice tones, it made the story fun to listen to.  This is a story of drama, suspense, mob and gangs, what more could you ask for in a story.  The twists and turns had me wanting to know what would happen next.  This was an entertaining story that I found to be engaging and the characters were easy to fall in love with.  I loved this audible and highly recommend it.

The Halfling’s Court had such an intriguing synopsis that I just had to pick it up. Danielle Ackley-McPhail is definitely going to be an author I follow in the future and go back and read previous work. The way she blended faerie and MC worlds was well done and had me captured from the beginning. I love stories with fairies and enjoy the MC novels I have read and so to put them together was generous of Danielle. So, if you enjoy either of these themes definitely try this one out!! Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a mystical, fast paced read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Grave Digger Academy is the first book I have read by C.A. King. It reminded me a bit of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” mixed with “The Summoning” by Kelley Armstrong– making it a truly MAGICAL read! I definitely recommend it for young adults interested in witches, ghosts, and all things magical! I enjoyed reading about Makayla and her experiences during her first year at Grave Digger Academy. Overall, this quick read was very intriguing! I kept turning the page, hoping to learn more about the purpose of the Grave Digger Academy as well as Makayla’s purpose. My only wish would be for more detail about certain characters and the surroundings. I am excited to read more books in this series!

Manifested Dreams by Dr. Yvonne Johnson – Review by Angela Hayes

Manifested DreamsManifested Dreams by Yvonne Johnson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Manifested Dreams by Dr. Yvonne Johnson surprised me , in a great way. I think I was expecting something with a bit more of a documentary/journaling style to it- which may have been boring…. But instead I was immediately pulled into an intriguing story that held my attention right through till the end. It is a very short story- which made for a quick and easy read, but don’t be fooled, this story may be short on pages, but it packs quite a lot into a small space. It is well-woven, with detailed descriptions, filled with thought-provoking elements, plenty of emotion, and interesting characters.
The story is complex, with several threads woven through it. Through the characters we see life through their eyes- moving from past to present, from the 1860’s to 1919, and then we work our way through to the 1990’s and then to 2008. The story examines racism, slavery, segregation, family, and the lives of African-Americans through history. We get an honest history lesson delivered in a very original, interesting, and thought-provoking way.
Definitely worth reading!

Thank you, Dr. Yvonne Johnson!

“As I walk amidst the slowly approaching night, along the dry cobblestones, I hear music echoing through the narrow streets. It takes a few false turns before I discover the source. Bathed in the soft light of an open door, guitar and flute intertwine their melodies like a passionate dance between two lovers.
My presence, as I lean against the brightly painted wall across the street, goes unnoticed. I listen for as long as I can until prior engagements pry this unknown audience away, retreating into the darkness.”

Lines By Leon: Poems, Prose, and Pictures by Leon Stevens is a great mix of poetry, short stories, pictures, and cartoons. Easy to read, this book definitely gave me much to think about. The author touches on many topics:
-As I See It
– (the) Environment
-The Human Condition
-People and Places
-Ponderance and Muse
-Odds and Ends, Knick-Knacks, and Bric-a-brac
-Table Scraps
-The Surprise Page
-(&) Short Stories
…. full of though, sketches, insights, reflections, observations, humour, sarcasm, relationships, and more- all of which made for an entertaining read-.

Thank you, Leon Stevens!

Georgia Clay (Southern Promises, #1)Georgia Clay by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Southern Promises Series. It  is a beautiful romance about two people who went to school together meeting up again at their high school reunion and falling in love.
The characters are well written that you feel invested in them. What I liked about this story was there wasn’t any danger of someone splitting them up. This romance grew and blossomed.

Clay is a songwriter and Katie is a successful insurance executive. Both of them have successful lifes and have done well since school. Clay has always liked Katie but always felt she was out of his league but now that’s changed.

When they meet again at the school reunion the sparks and attraction was still there and after spending the night together they decide to give a long term relationship a try. Can they make it work? Both are focused on their careers but will they be able to make room for each other in their lives?

Manifested Dreams by Dr. Yvonne Johnson – Review by Ashley Dover

Manifested DreamsManifested Dreams by Yvonne Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Manifested Dreams is a wonderfully told yet heart-wrenching story of a family’s journey from slavery to freedom and beyond. The letters from the family members describe their personal experiences with slavery, post-Civil War living, the Harlem Renaissance, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and President Barack Obama becoming the first African-American president. Within these positive and uplifting stories are sad and calamitous stories of the Memphis Massacre, the Read Summer of 1919, and the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As a white woman born in the South, I have always felt the aspects of racism in my life. As an open-hearted person, I have believed since I was six years old that every person no matter skin color is equal. Our biology is the same. Only the color of our skin and our experiences separate us. It is truly powerful to hear the stories in these letters which validate that racism has always been a part of our country’s heritage. I appreciate Dr. Yvonne Johnson for sharing her family’s stories. I hope that she continues to share their history so that we all can better understand our country’s heritage.

Just as strong as the first book in this series, this installment is a tad weirder but just as likely to suck you in until the very last page. Strong characters with well-written personalities. They could be your neighbors with the flaws they have. The plot might confuse you in a few places but you will be sucked right in just like a vacuum. Strong, action packed and definitely original, I loved this one also.

I never saw the ending coming. This is one of the BEST suspenseful crime books I have read. The plot leaves you holding your breathe.

Manifested Dreams by Dr. Yvonne Johnson – Review by Lorrene Huisman

Manifested DreamsManifested Dreams by Yvonne Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book that was written, it was more than just heart felt, its a book of truth, and honesty, and all the emotions and feelings that go along with it. I felt so much from reading this, I felt sadness, hope, the need to help, the want to make the world to change into something more than what it is, we can all hope and dream for a change, for improvement, or the whole idea to make the world a better place, but how is that ever going to happen if we keep the world going in the same repeating matter, we need all to stop and think and take actions now….

Again, I loved reading this, it was amazing and it really can open ones eye to a glimpse to what others have to live and still live to this day! People should not be provoked, out casted, or be treated different just because say if their skin color is not the same as the person whose is provoking. Its more than wrong its down putting, and needless to say unfair is a simple word to say that this needs to stop happening.

the stories of the characters in the family, what they went thru, what they had better hopes for, for what they wanted, they had to fight and be strong just to live every day. I thank this author for amazing collection of stories, I will defiantly be reading this again and again and defiantly going to have my husband and recommend to others.

The book is full of feelings and its all truth. I honestly wanted more when it came to an end. I longed for more. It truly touched me in a positive and a emotional way. I thank this amazing author for writing this, as I know this is not an easy thing to talk about and to put down on paper.

I will defiantly be reading more from this author. I highly suggest you grab a copy and read it, open your mind and heart, its something we should all read, it certainly leaves you to think when you finish it

Thank you again, Dr. Yvonne Johnson, for creating this beautiful book, I’m truly happy I got to read it and walk in another’s shoes 🙂

Its the story of Saffie who has been assaulted by members of another biker’s club and is notably terrified of biker’s. Her ex boyfriend was a biker as well and she’s always looking over her shoulder to see if he’s hunting her down. He told her he would kill her for leaving him. Niran is a biker like no other, he’s kind, caring and compassionate. When he meets Saffie she is a shell of her former and scared of everything but Niran can’t help wanting to protect her. Saffie isn’t having it and continually pushes him away but he keeps trying. Saffie knows she needs Niran’s protection so she is sensible enough to not completely push him away. Will Saffie eventually open her heart to Niran and will Niran continue to try to help Saffie? Read this amazing, emotional story that will keep you turning pages late in the night!

I took a chance on this story because it was a short story and I read it in about 30 minutes. It was written very well and flowed beautifully. I did though miss the character development that you would get with a longer story, as well as the building of the connection between the main characters. It was definitely steamy and a quick fun read though and I’m glad I picked it up. I have read a couple of this authors’ books and have liked both of them and will definitely read more from her in the future.

Bad Man on Campus (Big Men on Campus #3)Bad Man on Campus by Stephanie Queen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bad Man on Campus by Stephanie Queen is book three of the Big Men on Campus Series. This book is a second chance college romance and can be read as a stand alone.this book pulled me in from the beginning!

Glory has been the social outcast in town for years due to an accident. When she finds out Kace is home from St. Paul University she just has to see him. She doesn’t expect to get a second chance as easily as she did but knows there’s a lot to work through for the two of them. Kace has developed a reputation and a bit of a player, keeping everyone at arms length. Glory seems to have an alcohol addiction. Both have many things to work through in order for their second chance to work.

This book was an emotional roller coaster. You really feel for both Glory and Kace and the trauma they’ve been dealt. I know I was on the edge of my seat hoping everything would work out for them individually and together.
