This is more of a second chance to redemption story. Three years ago a tragedy occurred which separated Glory Rose and Kace. He went off to university and Glory got stuck in their hometown. His dad’s second marriage brought him back to town. Gaining courage, she meets with him and , to her utter delight, he’s happy to see her. She lets him know that she’ll be attending his university and he’s pleased that they’ll be together. Life isn’t exactly what they expected and university is fraught with difficulties. Life isn’t easy with one thing happening after another. Are they meant to be together or are the hurdles too high to overcome?

The story was interesting and well written. The characters were real and relatable. I was frustrated with Glory Rose. After everything that had happened, she was still making stupid decisions. I was so happy when she finally started to see the light. I enjoyed the story even if there was a little too much drama.

This story only comes up short in length. I wish there was more. My heart was in it the whole time. Poppy is your average nerdy girl who lives next to Turner, the sexy next door neighbor. In the short time it took me to read this book, I couldn’t put it down. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants a quick taste of attraction, lust, and nerdy romance. This would be a book I’d keep on my shelf for whenever I need a quick pick me up.

Pet Me (The Toye Shoppe #1)Pet Me by Angelique Jurd
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

Obsessed! I am really into MM romance right now and this book definitely filled my needs for a sweet romance. Bailey is so cute, anyone would be lucky to have him, and Sam is the sweetest for being as patient as he is with him. He is just so romantic and swoon worthy. Even though there is an age gap, both of them feel like the other would have someone better than themselves or will find someone better. All of their interactions are sweet, sexy and I can’t get enough. Following along with the other guys Sam employs at the Pleasure Palace as well as some stragglers that always seem to hang around is a fun ride. I really hope to see more books in this series, I would love to see how Sam and Bailey are doing now and of course how Ry and Cade are making out, or Dominic and Zander. I look forward to more from this author!

Dark Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #5)Dark Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dark Bastard is a Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells. India is one of those authors that is a must grab her book as soon as it appears. It is a fantastic series and Dark Bastard is another wonderful book in this series. You have to read the books in order, so you get the full background and understanding of just who these alpha men are. Trust me you will fall in love with them. India’s stories are compelling and enthralling due to her carefully woven threads that are full of fear, frustration, and angst which is palpable. Dark Bastard is another action packed read with you on the edge of the seat whilst we journey along with the men that India puts through their paces and we right along with them.

Bittersweep by Wareeze Woodson is a well written book that keeps you interested from the first page through to the last. This is a pretty new author to me still and yet already I am starting to get a feel for how she likes to write. Her books are descriptive and developed well while the characters all have a depth to them. I loved the characters in this book. They got so well with the story and just seemed to bring it to life. I liked how it felt like this book was focused on the story and what was happening, so you could really get invested.
This is an author I am pleased to have discovered and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.

Sex on Fire: A Quickie Read (Naughty Neighbor Book 1)Sex on Fire: A Quickie Read by Ashley Bostock
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this story. Its a really quick read but full of spice and passion. Even though it a short story you get a complete story so nothing is missing. The author does an amazing job with her character. It’s a relatable situation of the hot guy who ever woman wants and the geeky girl who thinks no one would want her.

The feelings from Poppy are so raw. You can really feel her fear and anxiety about her feelings for Turner and how she is going to progress with them in this state of constant anxiety.
Turner is totally in love and wants to do everything in his power to prove to Poppy she is everything he wants. All she has to do is trust and let him. However that isn’t as easy   as it sounds.

Pet Me is the first book in The Toye Shoppe series by Angelique Jurd. This is my first read from Ms. Jurd, so I really didn’t know what to expect going in. I have found that most of my reads lately have been a bit on the intense and dark side- so, seeing this pop up on my recommended book list, I thought it looked like it might lighten things up and be a fun read- so I snapped up a copy and dove in.
This is a sweet, contemporary MM romance, with an age gap, kink, pony play, toys (of the adult kind), and beautifully quirky characters.
If you love sweet stories, MM romance, and a bit of kink- then this is definitely the book for you!

Thank you, Angelique Jurd!

This is the first book that I have read from this author and she blew my mind. I have not read a male and male book in a long time but this story exceeded all my expectations. This is the first book of The Toye Shoppe series. Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. It only took me a few hours to devour this addictive book.

Bailey Roberts is very shy when it comes to what he likes in men. He sees a new way to play online and he needs to try it. Bailey goes into a toy shop to buy what he needs but he sees someone instead. He is attracted to the store owner Sam. Bailey thinks he is so out of Sam’s league because he is all new to this type of world. He is shocked when Sam starts to show interest in him. Will they be able to see past the age difference or will it be too much?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sex On Fire by Ashley Bostock was a very quick read. I honestly expected it to be a little more steamy, but for how short it was I was very impressed with the story. Less is more indeed. It was very quick and to the point, and interesting. It was also interesting to have a female lead interested and in the business of video games as that is usually a male dominated area. So I really enjoyed that small aspect. If you’re looking for a quick happy ever after story this is the book for you. I can’t want to read the next installment in this series.

Caim (Antipodes #4)Caim by T.S. Simons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Caim (Antipodes Book 4) by T.S. Simons is a romance dystopia. What else can you be looking for?

The question is what wouldn’t you risk for love. Traditions should not always be forgotten. Returning to their Gaelic origins, the community places their safety in the Caim’s protective circle. Freyja and Cam are blissfully delighted as it envelops them. They finally feel comfortable and satisfied in their isolated village on Lewis, where they live with their family and friends. However, when old friends come with devastating news, they leave them alone. When old acquaintances come with frightening news, they risk everything to uncover the truth about why they were chosen and what evil schemes the scientific community has devised just for them.

I loved this story and the concept of it as well. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is the fourth book in the series and the stories keep on getting better

They meet on the ski slope when Blake crashes into Holly in an attempt to save a child who veered into his path when he was snowboarding. Their first meeting wasn’t the best and wouldn’t you know, they very quickly find out they will be working together. These two had a somewhat bumpy start but find ways to crack each other’s walls. AWAKENING THE GODS (RISE OF THE CELTIC GODS) by KRISTIN GLEESON – Review by Christine Taysom 07/18/2021

Awakening the Gods (Rise of the Celtic Gods #1)Awakening the Gods by Kristin Gleeson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow this novel is by far one of the best books I have ever read, and I feel like I have a consistent history of finding, picking and reading novels that turn out to be just fantastic reads. I sat down and finished this book in one session and let me tell you I could not put this book down! I have had a long standing interest in the myths and legends of Celtic, Gaelic and Irish origin. My maiden name is McCarty and my ancestors immigrated from Galway, Ireland leaving the surname McCarthy in Galway and switching to McCarty upon arrival to the United States. I got such a kick out of reading this book that was inspired by legends and myths of gods and goddesses that have always interested me, set in the parts of Ireland my family originated from. Then to top it all off Kristin wove this beautiful tale that just kept me intrigued and in love with the characters she created. Saorise is an amazing protagonist and I loved learning about this urban world seeped in myths and legends through her eyes and mind. I am eagerly looking forward to November to read the next book in this series because I can’t wait to see how this story and the characters continue to develop and unfold. In the meantime you will definitely catch me rereading this book! Awakening the Gods (Rise of the Celtic Gods #1) isn’t a book you can only read once for satisfaction, it necessitates the re-reading of it in order to surround oneself with the magic for a little while longer.

Pet Me: The Toye Shoppe 1 by Angelique Jurd is a sweet MM romance story. Unfortunately, there are a few problems that often stopped the easy flow of the narrative. But having said this it was still a fun and cute read. Our MC is a vulnerable and shy young man who is learning to explore who he is and what he likes. His vulnerability makes him so endearing to any reader because I am sure we all want to mother him. There is angst and anxiety and motions that tug at your heart.

Courage of Us (Code of Honor Book 1) by Brooke May – Review by Alexandria Richard

Courage of UsCourage of Us by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A heartfelt second chance, military guy romance

This is not a fun and light romance read, which is why I enjoyed this book so much. The two MC’s are real with problems and hardships to overcome outside of their potential romance. But that’s not to discount the push and pull to see if they will give their love another chance.

Patience is a FMC that I feel so many can relate to, feeling low in life and going through the process of a divorce. Duke is an American soldier returning home after being medically discharged and diagnosed with PTSD. These two were best friends throughout their childhood, coming to the realization that they both liked one another after graduation, but Duke enlisted with the Marines and disappeared from Patience’s life for the next 8 years.

I felt that the characters and the circumstances were very realistic, though I wanted to smack Duke upside the head for the way he disappeared and stayed gone for so long. Patience has had a lot to deal with in life, but she’s still kicking and enjoying running the bakery in her family’s local grocery store.

I absolutely loved the side characters, both Duke’s and Patience’s moms and P’s aunt, and their meddling ways.

Trigger warning for mental and physical abuse, cheating, PTSD, and loss of an animal, and loss of a child.

I enjoyed this MM romance story. This is a newer author for me and I look forward to seeing what is next for her in the future. This is a well written story about two guys who are looking for something and they didn’t expect to find it in each other. Bailey and Sam made such great characters and their age difference just goes to show that age doesn’t matter and you never know what fate might have in store for you. They are connectable and made the story come to life. This is an engaging, fast paced story that kept me turning pages to the end. I was pulled into the story from the beginning and it was entertaining to read. I really enjoyed this book and I would highly recommend it.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Journeys Through SpaceTime (Journeys Through Book 1) is the first installment to this Sci/Fi/ fantasy story. Mr. Talisman gives us a complex and detailed story with lots of characters to keep track of. This story has everything that a reader could ask for including action, hidden agendas, politics, adventure, and danger. There’s so much in this story that you find yourself flipping the pages eagerly to find out what happens next. Since this is the first installment to this series there are a lot of suspenseful moments, some of which get tied up in pretty bows and others that are left unsolved, leaving his readers to anticipate book two. But if your looking for an exciting Sci/Fi/fantasy book to read this weekend then I highly recommend Journeys Through SpaceTime (Journeys Through Book 1) by James Talisman.

Alterations (Alterations Trilogy Book 1) by Jane Suen – Review by Erica Shoebridge

Alterations (Alterations #1)Alterations by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a good book with an interesting premise. A magic little implant to solve your big problem, what could go wrong? A topical story premise in this age of science, where editing DNA is possible and carries with it a big debate of ethicality. Dr. Kite is as you would expect, smart but a little fanatical and rushing progress in spite of problems (and let’s not forget his questionable title of “Dr.”). The women are desperate for a change. A heady combination. The story moved along well and I liked seeing the perspective from not only the doctor’s eyes, but the patients as well. However, at times it felt like an omniscient narrator barged in to make observations that were not in line with the character’s voice. It would have been even better if the characters just spoke for themselves, not being overridden with interjections about them. Something about that felt a bit inauthentic to me. However, besides that, I thought the book was well-written and worth a read.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Age gap, MM, Pony Play romance, 4.5 rounded up

This book was my first experience with Pony Play and it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed reading about Bailey, an awkward and shy 25 year old who doesn’t have much in life, but has a desire to be a unicorn. I enjoyed reading about him coming into himself and learning who he is as a person, and in his relationship with Sam. Sam is an older gentleman, new store owner of the previously titled Pleasure Palace, and has taken notice of the awkward, clumsy, and shy Bailey, coming into the sex shop. I enjoyed that their relationship grew organically and wasn’t rushed. I liked that Sam was open minded in his “old age,” willing to research Pony Play for Bailey and to try something new.

I also really liked the supporting cast and their banter and wittiness. Even though not everyone was on board with Sam and Bailey’s relationship I enjoyed the extra tension that brought to the story.

This book seems to set up future stories with the others as the primary focus and I can’t wait to read them.

Despite this book being on the shorter side it didn’t leave me feeling like I missed something.

Note, I especially loved the “Road to el Dorado” reference :-p

Check OutCheck Out by Debra Parmley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is very cute, and there were a lot of layers with it. Nash and Betsy Felt something the moment they met. Nash is very much the ideal book boyfriend. He is sweet, handsome, protective, and loyal. The moment he laid eyes on Betsy all those instincts came out , and a silent courtship began. Betsy was a bit harder to gage. She felt the attraction but she was very introverted and to herself. She had the feelings for him, but it took a lot more warming up for her. When her sister Leanne arrives Betsy Is a bit more free, but on the fence with Nash. There is quite a bit of cat and mouse play between them, and when he steps in to help with Leanne’s stalker it ups the ante for everything. It’s a very romantic story and there’s lots of intrigue attached to it. This read is very much worth it.

Saoirse and Smithy both have a deep connection to music around them. That shared link takes them on an unexpected journey. The words just pulled me into the story and the adventure. Picked this book up on Kindle Unlimited and didn’t realize it was part of a series. There are a few parts that I was a little lost on, like why was there an issue between Alex and Will. Why are people calling Will to collect on his sister’s debts.
There are a few unanswered questions. However, I am enjoying the chemistry between Jessica and Will. They are trying to fight their feelings for each other yet seem to be losing the battle.
Jessica is really awesome with Will’s neice and nephew and includes them in everything. Love this story and I am truly going to have to go back and read the other books in the series to tie up the loose ends I have.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pet Me is the first book in the The Toye Shoppe series. It doesn’t end in a cliffhanger but you can tell there are some lead ins to future books in the series… And I can’t wait!

I loved Bailey so much. He’s so relatable to me with his shy, personality and his clumsiness. Super sweet vibe to the story, which is not something I usually go for but it totally works with these characters. Even though the two main characters were fairly quick to fall in love, it didn’t feel forced or like there was insta-love with no foundation building.

I look forward to reading more in the series to discover how things play out between the other shop owners/employees and “the brats.”

Alterations by Jane Suen is the first book in the Alterations Trilogy. This is a brilliant book that focuses on the old adage of be careful what you wish for. What I loved most about this book is that fact that it isn’t too far removed from reality. You can so easily imagine this type of scenarios being exactly where society is headed. Because of that I thought it was so easy to connect with the story. Although it was a pretty quick read you become invested in the characters and everything that happens to them. As the start of a series this is a strong opening. It has definitely piqued my interest and I cannot wait to read the next books.

A Cold Day in Hell is the fifth book in the series Life Is Hell. Naomi Valkyrie is an author that never disappoints me as a reader. When I see her book, I pick it up because I have to know what is going on with her characters. This book is a part of a series and it would be beneficial to get to know the characters. The story took me on a wild ride. There were some twists and turns where I was blown away because I did not see that coming. The characters are fully developed and full of personality. This book is about Hadassah’s story on probation from heaven for sharing her powers with her brother Malakhi. She is doing her best to stay on “good behavior” because she wants to return to Heaven. Hadassah stays out of her brother’s affairs to return to her paradise sooner. That is until Jezebel comes into the picture. What is going to happen now with Hadassah? Will she keep her good behavior going or is she going to make some sacrifices to prevent her from going to Heaven like she wants to? I highly recommend reading this book to see what Hadassah ends up doing.

This is a story about Radhika and her adventures when she participates in a challenge in the land of nightmares. Things are not always as they seem here and she is left using her imagination to fight for her life. This is a great fantasy story and certainly will take you on an adventure.
