The Silent Road by S.N. McKibben – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

The Silent RoadThe Silent Road by S.N. McKibben
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dan is a man who seems to screw up everything he touches. He spent so much time away from home trying to make money to support his wife and daughter that it caused his marriage to collapse. Not only did his marriage fail but his ex-wife thinks he is a deadbeat. He has failed to follow through with past promises to his daughter, so she has lost all faith in him. The only thing Dan has left is his rig and driving on the open road hauling freight. Or it was, up until the day he was pulled over and was caught driving without a license.

Getting caught driving without a license could not have happened at a worse time for Dan. He needs the money to pay for his daughter’s college tuition. If Dan cannot come up with the money, he risks losing his daughter forever. Dan is forced on probation and must have a co-driver with him in order to prove that he is capable of getting his commercial license. The problem is that Dan does not want to have Jake as his co-driver. He knows Jake’s dirty little secret, and he wants no part of it. Unfortunately, Dan’s boss gives him no choice and Dan must make the best of it as he tries to convince Jake to bend the rules a little bit so that he can make good on the promise he made to his daughter.

As Dan and Jake head out on the open road they get to know one another better. Dan finds that he enjoys Jake’s company a little more than he expected. In all honesty, a lot more than he expected, and it scares him as he finds himself questioning his own sexuality. Could Jake be what he has been looking for, what has been missing from his life, all this time?

This was an interesting MM romance with a big rig, hitting the open road, feel to it. As Dan and Jake hit the open road together it becomes a symbol of their freedom from the constraints of society’s beliefs, judgement, and condemnation. On the road they do not fear what others may think and are allowed the freedom to get to know one another in an open and honest manner. The characters of Jake and Dan are clearly more layered than this story allowed as it was more focused on the relationship between the two men. The author asked for feedback at the end of the book on whether readers would like to read more about Dan and Jake. This reader says, yes, I would love to read a book on each one where the story focuses solely on them, their background, past relationships, and so forth.

I personally, would read a book about Dan which goes back to his marriage to his ex-wife. What was their relationship like? In The Silent Road we know his marriage collapsed because he worked away from home so much. Were there other contributing factors that caused his marriage to fail? Was their relationship rocky to begin with? Did Dan display any signs that might explain his interest in Jake? Was he not attracted to his wife? Was there an underlying reason that kept him on the road and away from his family? A reason that he may not have realized at that time. I would love to know more about Jake as well. Was he always attracted to men? In The Silent Road we see signs of society’s disapproval over his lifestyle. Was there ever a time in his life where he felt the need to conform to society’s beliefs about who he is and hide his sexuality? Was he ever married? If so, does he have children? All in all, this was a good book and I enjoyed it. It left me wanting to learn more about the pasts of both Dan and Jake and I want to read more.

When I first picked up this book I wasn’t quite sure what to expect and the first reviews I came across weren’t that favourable but the synopsis sounded intriguing and I’m so glad I decided to read it and it was really good read and thoroughly enjoyed it!! There were some great laugh out loud moments and the characters were entertaining to read about. I may possibly have fallen in love with Wick. There was so much passion and chemistry between him and Nadine!!
I have read the first book in this series but I definitely want to grab it and find out a bit more about some of the characters!
A great read and one that I would definitely recommend!

I absolutely love this series! Will and Maggie’s story has been such a great journey to follow. I love the time travel, the historical romance and to be honest just everything. The authors writing is so amazing, there is no a point at all when I am confused about what is happening or which time period I’m in, everything is just so seamlessly written. The whole series has been a joy to read and this new addition was no exception. Just when you think the couple are settled into twentieth century life they find themselves back in time to sort more problems out.
Another fabulous read from this author, I would highly recommend you read this series in order! I can’t wait for more from this author!

I have been waiting for the next book in this series to be released and the author did not disappoint with Under My Care! It was everything I hoped for and more. I loved Pete and Rowena’s story, it was jam packed full of action, suspense, danger and so much more. It definitely had me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next for sure! I loved the dual POV for the telling of this story – for me as a reader it means I can get to understand both of the characters.
I am so excited for more from this author she definitely writes stories that either have you on the edge of your seat or swooning from the romance!

When I first read the synopsis for this book I really felt drawn to the story and I have to say it was such a great read. I loved it from the very first page until the last. I fell in love with the characters Abby and Nate straight away although they definitely had me screaming at my kindle at times with their miscommunication! There was definitely a huge amount of chemistry between the main characters and I liked that this was about older characters and this definitely made them more relatable for me as a reader.
There were some good secondary characters and I’m looking forward to reading more from this series!

Three short stories that feature a mans escapes with his wife, babysitter and boss. If you aren’t interested in the sizzling details of these encounters, I would avoid, but if you do want to spice it up, this is one to pick. You get the very surface level characters and the details are in the sinful encounters. Decent short book for those who enjoy the erotic adventures.

Right in Front of You is the first book in the Morris Valley Gang romantic series. I really enjoy Brooke’s stories and was excited to see this new book was out. This is one of my favourites from her. It is easy to fall in love with the characters and the charming small town and the locals.
Brinley Moore comes back to the one place that felt like home Morris Valley. To the friends she left behind. However, she finds more than she bargained for in one tall dark and quiet cowboy. The only thing was coming home was supposed to keep her safe.
Adrian Cook came to the small town to start a new life leaving his past in the past. Unfortunately it is that same past that isn’t quite conducive to relationships. That is until a one Brinley Moore breezes into town and in to his life. The only thing is can he keep her safe?
With good friends, one hot rancher, a stalker and a steamy romance Right in Front of You: Volume One: Brinley & Adrian has everything you need to escape for a few hours with a glass of wine.

I must admit when I first started reading this book I was really unsure that I was going to like one of the main characters, Dan. His attitudes at the start really annoyed me but this creative author weaved a storyline that not only keeps you interested but shows real development in Dan. It didn’t take me long to see beneath his initial attitudes and feel for him. There is just enough steamy moments to see the bond building between Dan and Jake even if Dan wants to strongly deny it. I really enjoyed this authors writing and will definitely be keeping an eye out for more books.

This is one heck of an exciting romance. Brinley just wants some peace. She’s trying to get away from a stalker. She goes to visit friends and meets the hot Adrian. Oh my, do the sparks fly. I love the chemistry with these two. The interactions are witty and quite entertaining. Their friends, seeing as they both know the same people, are quite relatable and entertaining also. There is some baggage and drama in the group that I look forward to reading about in further books. The story is feels like you’re hanging out with them. This author has a way of writing that puts you right into the story also so that you are experiencing everything. You feel the emotions, etc. It’s a terrific romance that I recommend you must read. Adrian and Brinley are now on my list of favorite characters.

Brooke lives in North Central Wyoming with her husband she affectionately refers to as the warden, their two wild and crazy boys, and her yellow lab, Timber.

When she doesn’t have her nose in a good story, Brooke enjoys spending as much time as she can outside. Walking around town, fishing, hunting, hiking, and messing around the mountains, Brooke loves the great outdoors which shows up quite a bit in her works.

Brooke has been writing and telling stories since she was old enough to get someone to sit and listen to her, mainly being her best friend. She started off posting fanfictions and then decided to publish when she was on maternity leave with her youngest. A year later My Cowboy came out.

Brooke doesn’t just write one type of romances, but loves to explore as many as her mind can come up with.

Her hobbies outside of reading are landscape photography, drawing, and just being outside where she can get dirty.

The Challenger (The Hustlers Trilogy Book 2) by Rowan Rossler – Review by M Policicchio

The Challenger: A Sports Romance Saga (The Hustlers Trilogy Book 2)The Challenger: A Sports Romance Saga by Rowan Rossler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not quite what I expected but a good read. The characters seem a little larger than life with the name and label dropping. I get that it describes the level of money and celebrity but not my thing.

Flynn has had some hard knocks in life. She found out accidentally that she was adopted. Her birth mother died months before locating her. Her tennis career ended in a white water rafting accident on a trip that she should have never been on that also left her then boyfriend in a wheelchair. There is more but that is just the highlights. When she meets Chavez, he makes her feel things that she has not felt in a very long time. But Flynn has never been good at relationships and finds self-sabotage works well as an exit.

Chavez has never had to stop proving things in his life. He has to continue to prove to the tennis world that he deserves to be where he is, on top. A couple of recent hits in his personal life has made keeping his famous temper under control a little more difficult. That is until he meets Flynn. Flynn seems to be the thing in life that helps him keep it all together. Now Chavez just has to find a way to not only not scare Flynn off but break through all the walls she has built around herself.

When all the secrets that Flynn has managed to keep from Chavez’s all-seeing eyes threaten to derail Chavez’s rebuilt career, Flynn must find a way to let him in and save his career. I want a man so dedicated to knowing, pleasing, supporting, protecting his woman as Chavez. I am all in on him. Although I may not understand all the labels, I understand his loyalty to familia and the woman he wants to be in his life forever. Their chemistry is palpable. Totally worth the read.

This was my first read by the author and it took me off guard. For some reason when I read the description I didn’t put two and two together that it was a MM romance. The writing is well done, however, this genre just isn’t something I’m interested in. I would be interested in other works of this author in different genres.

The Silent Road by S.N. McKibben was a different type of story than I would usually read. It was my first by this author and I really enjoyed it. Dan has screwed up a lot in his life and he is trying to make it better. As a long haul trucker, he has always enjoyed the road. That is until another screwup forces a codriver on him. Jake has a secret that Dan has found out about. And since he found out, he’s realized that he’s a lot more curious than he would like. I found that I read this book rather quickly. It felt a little dry at first but because you’re reading from Dans perspective, it came off as his personality. This was quite the emotional journey for the characters, I’d recommend it to others with an open mind.

5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I love a small town romance and this story was fantastic. Mix in romance, friends to lovers, biological clock ticking away and a bit of angst and this is definitely the story of Abby and Nate.

Abby and Nate have been best friends since they were 7 years old. When Abby feels that her biological clock is ticking and time is running short as she turns 40, Nate proposes for her dream to become a mother to come true. The hitch, Abby becoming pregnant the “old fashioned” way. When Abby is all in with Nate, even through their friendship……the sparks are off the roof!!!! Technically both Abby and Nate were thinking “just one time”….but the passion and heat they feel for each other leads to many more times…..but then again lead to feelings that are more than being best friends and never telling each other due to fear.

When lines are crossed, communication not so clear….will Abby and Nate be able to be more than friends….definitely read and find out. You will not be disappointed.

I loved this story of Nate and Abby so much. I am totally looking forward to reading more in this series of books.

Forty year old Abby is still single and craving a baby. When she and her sister devise a plan to find a donor, they decide that her best friend, Nate, is the perfect guy. He is single too, loves her, is sexy and will help her. What Abby did not foresee was her old boyfriend coming back to town.
Opinion
This book was fantastic. It alternated views back and forth between Abby and Nate making it easy to know what is going through each characters minds. The hot scenes were just enough spice to not overdue it. Many scenes had laugh out loud comedic situations. I found this a perfect read for the stressful week I had at work.
This is the first book in the series and I’m interested to learn more about her sister and Nate’s coworker.

The Romanov Heiress, by Jennifer Laam, was not what I expected! I knew I would enjoy it, as I usually do period books and I am completely fascinated by the Tsars and their history. What was unexpected for me was not being able to put it down! It was very easy to read, with wonderful characters that were relatable. There was a twist with the “villain” that surprised me as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait until the next!

Under My Care (Chase Care Book 3)Under My Care by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Under My Care by R.L. Dunn is available now in eBook and Physical Book
⭐️⭐️⭐⭐ Book Review

Under My Care is the third installment of the Chase Care Series. Although part of a series, this can be read as a standalone without any confusion. This medical romantic thriller features heroes with hearts and healing hands. Pete Walter and Rowena Andersen share quite the history. Years ago they were in the Air Force together where they endured many obstacles that caused tension between the two. When they are reunited during an emergency situation the chemistry immediately resurfaces.

If you are a lover of medical dramas, this one’s for you. Full of secrets, evil intentions, and risks this medical romance thriller will have you sitting on the edge of your seat, frantically flipping pages, while you impatiently try to determine what happens next. The characters are strong and full of adventure. The steamy scenes are definitely geared towards a mature 18+ audience. I am in the medical field, and these medical dramas always draw me in. I don’t regret it! This was my first time reading a novel by R.L. Dunn, and it won’t be my last! I can’t wait to get my hands on the remainder of this series.

What a great book! It was funny, it was sweet, it had everything a good romance needs.
When a misunderstanding causes a prank war between neighboring businesses, things take a turn when the health inspector shows up.
I loved the chemistry these two had and their banter and caring nature for each other despite denying their attraction for so long.
I felt like I knew these characters from the start and loved watching their enemies to not unfold.
Highly recommend

Savage Start: A High School Bully Romance: Hidden Valley Elite PrequelSavage Start: A High School Bully Romance: Hidden Valley Elite Prequel by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Savage Start is a short Prequel that ends with a cliffhanger which continues on with Savage Lies. This isn’t a standalone, but it gives you a little more back story with the characters in Savage Lies. In Savage Start, Riley and Cole are the main characters. Riley and her mother move to a new town in California. They move a lot and are almost always on the run. Her mom says it will be different this time, but it never is. She can’t trust being safe, ever! It doesn’t take her long to get caught stealing at a McMansion party and the guy who catches her not only takes her “souvenir”, but he also steals a kiss! Thrown off balance by his dangerous and sexy kiss, she’s distracted. And she got caught! She NEVER gets caught!! Leaving this town sooner rather than later might be the best. Cole, catching a little thief at his cousins party, is equally caught off guard by the mysterious girl. He was a little drunk, so he doesn’t remember all the details of her features, but he can’t stop thinking about the kiss and what it did to him. He’s never reacted like that before with anyone. When he catches wind of who she is, or more importantly who her mother is, all bets are off. This book is a new adult bully romance prequel about Riley and Cole’s story. I haven’t yet read the last of their story (Savage Truth), but I can’t wait to get my hands on it and all the books to this Hidden Valley Elite series! If you like enemies to lovers romance books this is a great set! I can’t wait to finish it all, but let me tell you that this prequel and the first book were enough to hook me in!!

An extremely good read that mingles vampire and fae beautifully.

What begins as almost melancholy; a life forced upon Connor the devishly handsome vampire. Soon becomes intermingled with a beautiful Fae Niahm. A journey of self discovery and one of soulmates; true love.
Familiar rifts and successions to the crown are tarnished with the greed of a single family member. I read on the edge of my seat eager and wanting what’s next.

Ending on a lovers note this book left me happy but wanting more. Perhaps there will be more to come ! I sure hope there will be.

Abby just turned 40 and she feels like her biological clock is ticking. She wants to start a family…but, since she is single, she isn’t quite sure how to make that dream come true. When her sister, Jane, recommends finding someone to sleep with, just one time, to try and get pregnant, Abby knows just the person.
Nate, the local firefighter captain, has been Abby’s best friend since they were both 7. When Abby begins talking about finding someone to have a baby with, he volunteers. First out of friendship….but he has always had a thing for his best friend.
What these two have is chemistry that is off the charts! Abby also has a pushy mother that is determined to set her up with a new local bachelor. Add in her ex-boyfriend returning…and you’ve got all sorts of situations that could go wrong. You will have to read to find out if Abby and Nate can figure out their own relationship issues before they cause a falling out that they might not be able to come back from.
I enjoyed these characters. The story felt real…and some of the situations were honest and hilarious. I also enjoyed the banter and spark of interest between Jane and Capshaw…so I’m wondering if they will be the next book. Overall, a good story that kept my interest from beginning to end.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries book #5)Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of the best series you can read! This 5th book is my favorite so far. I just kept guessing what would happen next and I wasn’t getting it right! I read this book quickly because I had to know what would happen. It grips you the entire time. There were some “heavier” areas but they were really well done. This is a great book and great series, check it out today!

Rogue (The Talisman Series) by Tam DeRudder Jackson – Review by Ayla Phipps

Rogue (The Talisman Series Book 6)Rogue by Tam DeRudder Jackson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read by Tam DeRudder Jackson; the original synopsis drew me to this story immediately. Within the first few pages the story developed into so much more than I expected, while Baz is a rogue it is not exactly by choice. Taking the best option in a bad situation he has been a rogue now for three years, but his key goal is to introduce a new class of Celtic fighters outside of the current black and white status of warriors and rogues. Reading that a warrior has until their 28th birthday I thought it was some type of trinket but meeting Delaney you quickly learn that it is the fated mate of a warrior, she is his talisman.
Working for the war goddess Morrigan is not an easy task but it’s better than allowing her to kill you the day of your birthday when you fail to find your talisman. While Baz completes every mission Morrigan gives him, she is not his true patroness, and he has an alternative goal in his life. He wants to go to one of the many other deities and start a third class of Celtic fighters, mercenaries, with him as their leader. Morrigan has her rogues hunting the Sheridan family warriors though, it is through Delaney’s perspective you learn why. A Sheridan ancestor denied the goddess’s offer to go to bed with her, being that they are descendants of a clan of demigods they can survive a night in her bed without dying from the experience. A thousand-year curse finally broken by Rowan and Alyssa Sheridan’s wedding giving rogues and talismans until the age of forty-two to find each other, which is a huge thing considering they originally only had seven years to find each other between the sign ceremony and their 28th birthday. Delaney now has hope once again for the first time in two years that she may still have a chance at love and happiness. Baz while pondering the possibility he wonders more so how it could affect his ultimate mission. When given the opportunity to move and have a training room for his rogues he takes the chance leading to the unexpected.
Will Baz succeed in getting his own class of fighters? How do Delaney and Baz find each other? Is their bond strong enough to save her? The incredible world the author creates pulls you in on page one and continues to build until the very end. I found myself feeling the irritation and shock with the characters and the ultimate fear and love Delaney and Baz feel when she is robbed of her memories. This is a page turner from start to finish and is a refreshing read. Instead of the young coming of age stories of olde this book is with older characters in their early thirties getting the chance to find their warrior and talisman. I look forward to reading more of this amazing series very soon.
