Unabridged (Lovestruck Series Book 2) by Melinda De Ross – Review by Donna Parrott

Unabridged (Smart & Sassy in the City, #2)Unabridged by Melinda De Ross
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I want to start out by saying Melinda De Ross is a new author to me. I went in blind not knowing what to expect. Let me tell you I am so glad I took the chance. The way the words just flowed off the pages and had me laughing to myself at parts and worried with others. I am also not a huge fan of second chance romances but Unabridged and Melinda just might have me change my mind.
Angelina left the love of her life a long time ago. She did it because she was saving him and keeping secrets in the dark. Now a journalist and just living her amazing life she has to meet the new editor.
Now this may be just an everyday occurrence to most, what’s not everyday about the meeting is the new editor being your ex. Yes, the very ex who just so happens to be the love of your life.
Blade never thought he would see the woman that crushed his very soul but here we are. As the new editor in chief the last thing he needs in his already crazy life is the woman who crushed him to be his new journalist. With a crazy ex and being her boss does that mean a rekindlement could happen for these two soul mates?
I was on the edge of my seat. My smart watch told me on many occasions that my blood pressure was too high. Every time I thought I figured out what was going on BAM, the author said not today and threw me for a loop. I have to say this book helped me get out of a book funk but put me in a book coma.

What a sweet, fun read! This no set contains two stories, following Melodie and Office Guy, aka Isaac.

Melodie is a lovable, relatable character. She is a free spirit and an artist and the books are full of her inner-dialogue, which add to the story and provides witty and funny commentary to the story. Office Guy is her opposite and her crush admired from afar, until one day their lives collide and a friendship…and more..is formed.

These stories are written in an engaging style with many laugh out loud moments. It is an easy read with the characters well developed. If your looking for a fun romantic comedy, pick this one up!

This set of books was so fun to read! The stories were light-hearted and had wonderful characters that were lovable, witty, and simply enjoyable to follow. I connected to Melodie’s struggles as I had a similar struggle. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters and found myself not wanting to put these stories down. After an exhausting day at work, it was nice to be able to read something that was easy to enjoy. I definitely recommend both of these books! Sometimes sequels aren’t as good as the first book, but if anything I think I liked the second one even more than the first!

I really enjoyed learning about Melodie’s story from the very beginning to the very end of both books and living her story! This isn’t something I would usually read but this set has me hooked.

Opposites attract in this fun loving, quirky rom com. Based in the streets of London, our artsy heroine Melodie, is lovestruck as soon as she lays eyes on Office Guy, Isaac. Discover their budding love story high and lows in “Finding Melodie” and the hilarious continuation of meeting their families in“The Wedding”. With plenty of Laugh out loud moments and tear jerking emotions this series is a perfect feel good romp.
I absolutely loved this series! It was a quick, charming, easy read. Melodie is such a relatable and lovable character. The relationship between her and “Office Guy” really made me smile and was so heartwarming I couldn’t get enough. It was so easy to fall for this duo and root for their relationship! I recommend this boxset to anyone looking for a date night book that will make you feel good!

This book was everything you could ask for! It was well written, it was cute and the story was adorable! My only complaint is I WANTED MORE!!! This author did such a good job of bringing the story to life, even if you have never been to London, this story captures everything from the scenery, the people, the atmosphere! This book was everything we could have asked for and still could have been more without getting boring!

Not only is this a terrific friends-to-lovers romance, but it’s full of humor, and so many touching moments that I couldn’t put this box set down. I was actually really glad that I picked this series up as a box set, because once I devoured book one I couldn’t wait to dig into book two. The main characters are so amazing that I fell in love with both of them from the beginning and couldn’t help but cheer for them. So make sure you pick up this great box set today!

Free-spirited Melodie meets your typical office-square Isaac on the streets of London, and what was supposed to be a joyous occasion for Isaac soon turns sour. With Melodie’s helping hand, they attempt to ‘fix’ the situation, but things may not end the way they had originally planned… I really enjoy reading something so lighthearted and warming after a long day, this box set totally hit the spot! A sweet romantic comedy that had just the right pace when it comes to the actual romance portion. This was an absolute joy to read with well-written characters and an interesting landscape.

I am new to this author and I loved this 2 book box set. I love a good romantic comedy and this story of Melodie and “The Office Guy” Issac does not disappoint. Book 1 starts at the beginning on how Melodie and Isaac meet, while Melodie is care free musician, Isaac is in banking….I love how opposite attract as this story is truly heartwarming and fun. Book 2 picks up and we meet the parents for the upcoming wedding. I continue to love the story as it unfolds between Melodie and Isaac, they are truly made for each other. You continue to root for a happily ever after for Isaac and Melodie after trying to please Isaac’s parents….especially Isaac’s mother….

The author does a fantastic job on the storytelling with these characters. What a fun, enjoyable 2 book set…I recommend it highly!!

Finding Melodie and The Wedding: Boxset by Laura Rossi

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. This box set contains two sweet stories and a bonus chapter. Finding Melodie and The Wedding are both amazing stories.

Finding Melodie is about a street musician and a banker finding love. Isaac and Melodie are complete opposites, but then again they say opposites attract.

Melodie has given nicknames to everyone that passes by her while playing music. Office Guy, as she’s dubbed Isaac, comes to her one day for help. He’s going to ask his girlfriend to marry him. The quote I chose for Melodie is: “You don’t know you. I know you are a good man. It takes guts to do what you did, show your feelings, show how much you care. Nobody takes love seriously these days. It’s all too fast, too intense, too consuming. And it’s all gone in the blink of an eye. It takes guts, Isaac. And I shall not overlook this. I won’t let you stand down. Katy will just have to admit she was wrong.”

Isaac is hurt and finds himself in the company of a pink haired lady. In the process of trying to win Katy back he found himself. He finds himself falling for Melodie. The quote I chose for Isaac is: “I’m screwed, Melodie. I think my heart belongs to a Pixie. I think I’m in love with you.”

The Wedding is the sequel to Finding Melodie. It’s time to get married and meet the parents. Melodie is going to have a hard time trying to please his parents and it just might ruin them.

Melodie is the same girl from Finding Melodie. Now though she’s living with Isaac in his home and she loves it. She gets home early to surprise him only to surprise his parents. The quote I chose for Melodie is: “Breaking up is never easy, and when families are involved, it’s even more complicated. And I want to say, for argument’s sake, that I don’t normally go around undressed like that. Cynthia. I love your son so very much. No matter how unexpected it may look or sound, it’s the truth. I’m determined to make Isaac happy.”

Isaac is hitting the jackpot. He’s got the girl and the job. He turned down one promotion for another and is happy with life. His parents show up and find that he’s no longer with Katy. His mother just might ruin his chance of happiness. The quote I chose for Isaac is: “Please don’t take this the wrong way but, sir, quite frankly I don’t give a flying f**k what you, my mother or anyone else thinks. This is between Melodie and me and only Melodie and me.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Comedy lovers.

Melodie Boxset (Melodie #1-2)Melodie Boxset by Laura Rossi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Finding Melodie was a cute short book. I loved the characters and the happily ever after. Their friendship was fun to read about, with their playful banter and innocent flirting. They are the most unlikely pair, but their friendship works. Melodie has a very laid back, fun personality. She is a street musician during the day and works at a bar at night. Issac is a serious guy who works a 9 to 5 in a bank, and wears suits daily. Melodie is so selfless, she helps Issac try to win back his girlfriend, even though she has a secret crush on him. I love the ending for Katy- Karma sucks sometimes huh. I liked that the story transitioned to include Issac’s POV midway through the story.
The Wedding seemed much longer than Finding Melodie, and they almost could have been a story together. I’m glad I read them as a box together, because I know I wouldn’t have wanted to stop after Finding Melodie. While it was a predictable romance, I still loved it. The story is cute and the ending was perfect.

Melodie Boxset (Melodie #1-2)Melodie Boxset by Laura Rossi
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first time reading this author and I enjoyed every moment of it!

Finding Melodie:
Melodie is a music student/busker that falls in love with a regular “Office Guy” as she dubs him. When he asks her to play his and his girlfriend’s song while he proposes, how could she refuse? But when things go awry and the girlfriend says no… Well, who better to cheer him up then her? Melodie decides to help him win his girlfriend back, but can she do it without getting attached?

The Wedding:
Melodie could not keep herself from falling for sweet Isaac, a.k.a. “Office Guy”. They are now living together and engaged. In this hilarious, heart-wrenching sequel, we get a glimpse into Melodie, Isaac, and her soon-to-be-mother-in-law’s thoughts as to how they get from engaged to the wedding. Oh, the craziness of a stuffy elitist mother accepting a pink haired, authentic woman as her daughter-in-law!

I laughed, my heart ached, and I wanted to read more! These books are a great pick me up read. I enjoyed seeing Melodie come into her own with her MIL and her MIL humbling herself for her son’s best interest. I would definitely read this author again!

Right from the beginning I knew I was going to really like these books! Melodie is a fun, loving, character. The London stage is set perfectly. And two opposites fall in love unexpectedly. While she is trying to get him his ex-back mind you. What a fun romp! The second book, The Wedding is romantic, sexy, and hilarious! The characters are a good deal of fun. I see this playing out in my mind like a movie. These two stories are my first introduction to Laura Rossi. Her writing style is charismatic and entertaining. I’ll be looking to read more for sure!

I fell head over heels for Melodie in this rom-com! She has such a big heart and her quirkiness is very relatable. Isaac has his eyes opened to a whole new world when she comes along and you can feel the change in him. I got caught up in their wonderful romance first in Finding Melodie and then rode the ups and downs of The Wedding. You will laugh out loud at some of these mishaps but ultimately swoon over Office Guy and Pixie. This is such an uplifting read that gets you right in the feels and although they are shorter books, I couldn’t get enough of them. I 100% recommend this to anyone, you won’t be able to put it down!

Melodie and Isaac or as we grow to love them known as “Pixie and Office Guy” had my heart from the very beginning! The story line was easy to follow and wasn’t much drama which I absolutely loved! This is an amazing quick second chance romance. It lives up to the genre of being a romantic comedy. However, it also has some suspense to keep you really focused on the plot. The characters are wonderfully written and seem like they would be someone that you would actually want to be friends with in real life. When you think you know where this story is going, you don’t. It takes some twists and turns that you don’t see coming and that kept me reading and not wanting to put the book down. There is some steam to this book and it just makes it that much more enjoyable. This is a great read if you want to giggle, feel some heat, and have an amazing plot twist.

Spring’s Showers (Romantically Seasonal Series) by C.A. King – Review by Donya Pedigo

Spring's Showers: Romantically Seasonal: SpringSpring’s Showers: Romantically Seasonal: Spring by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Quote from the book
(“We’ve been here throughout time,” Nick answered. “We’ve done everything there is to do, even played games with mortal pawns, using them as we would chess pieces… or cards.”He held up his hand. “I’m not proud of it, but it was something that happened back in those days.)

The Gods have always interfered in the lives of mortals so it should come as no surprise when they make a bet that involves humans. Eros aka Cupid is tired of being low man on the totem pole, thought less of by the other Gods. Who are they to judge him and think his job, of helping everyone and everything find love is easy? True love is easy, that in itself is a joke, but let them just see how hard it is as they attempt to win the wager against him.

This is the first book in this series and I can’t wait to read more. As a lover of mythology I was intrigued by the dynamic of the Gods’ interactions and ways of thinking versus that of mere mortals, but at the core this is a sweet love story. This made such a fast, great read that I highly recommend this book and this author.

While reading I was rooting for them so hard to be together, and as the events unfolded I was ecstatic that it resulted in their love continuing. There are a couple of steamy moments in the book which certainly add a bit of flair! I love the way that the author illustrates the happenings of the book. Unabridged was a wonderful 2nd chance romance. I love how you see the character growth between from before this story started to now. Hometown sweethearts that didn’t last. Well they could’ve if Angelina didn’t make a split decision at the time.
Angelina works as a journalist at Unabridged magazine. Little does she know her world is about to be rocked. Excited about her new article she walks straight into her boss’s office saying “You’re going to love me.” Never in a million years did she expect to hear, “I did once.” Coming from none other than that love she left behind, Blade Spencer.
Blade Spencer the new editor & chief of Unabridged. Just discovered that the one who got away, the one he has been pining for since she left, now works for him. What are the odds? Is this his 2nd chance at happily ever after.
Well not without some speed bumps along the way. How will Angelina and Blade handle their unresolved feelings for one another?
You will just have to read and find out!
If you’re a fan of 2nd chance romances, please check it out. You will not and I mean will not be disappointed.

Unabridged (Lovestruck) by Melinda De Ross

This is a great read by the author. Unabridged is a fantastic read and I can’t wait for more. This is part of the Lovestruck Series and can be read as a standalone.

Angelina left behind the love of her life because she was ashamed of herself. Three years later she’s made a name for herself and is working a great job. She goes into the office to tell her boss about a new article only to run into her ex. Can they pick up where they left off? The quote I chose for Angelina is: “I told you why I did it. We had no future together. I almost had a heart attack when I walked into Howie’s office and saw him there. I don’t know how the hell I’ll manage to work for him. I never thought I would ever see him again. Why, oh why does s*** like this keep happening to me?”

Blade has made a good life for himself except he’s been missing one thing. His ex-girlfriend who just happens to be one of his new employees. He has an ex-wife who might cause problems. The quote I chose for Blade is: “No, Angelina, I assure you I’m not joking. I’m your new boss. If you spent more time at the office working, you would know that Howie retired last month and moved to San Francisco.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Comedy lovers.

When Angelina made the painful decision to leave Blade to move to Seattle to pursue her career, she convinced herself it was the best decision for all involved. She did her best to leave her past behind her and threw herself into pursuing her career as a journalist. Years later Angelina’s life is on track, her journalism career is going well, and she loves her job working as a journalist at Unabridged magazine. Imagine her surprise when she walks into work one day and her new boss is her ex-boyfriend, Blade Spencer!

Angelina’s past is brought to light and old feelings resurface. Suddenly she is forced to relive her past and make the difficult decision to reveal her true reasons for leaving Blade. Would Angelina finally tell Blade the real reasons she left him with no warning or explanation? What was so horrible that it would make her leave the love of her life? Would Blade be able to forgive her? Could they put the past behind them and move forward?

I loved this book and found it impossible to put down. I read it from cover to cover in one sitting because I had to find out what would become of Angelina and Blade. The author did an amazing job of drawing the reader into the story. The characters of Angelina and Blade were wonderful, and they were easily relatable. I found myself rooting for them to work things out and just put the past behind them. Many times, I just wanted to reach into the book and give Angelina a shake for being so stupid by leaving a man who was so clearly devoted to her. Other times I felt such compassion for her and could understand why she did what she did. This book was a roller coaster ride of emotions for me as I became wrapped up in the lives of Angelina and Blade. I highly recommend this book!

I previously read a mystery by this author, so was completely blown away by how fantastic of a rom com author she is! She wrote as if I was sitting down next to her and she was talking about how she fell in love with someone. I wish that the books had been a bit longer but I definitely loved being able to finish the boxset during one weekend, a busy one at that! Melodie Boxset (Melodie #1-2)Melodie Boxset by Laura Rossi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

To be quite honest, I am hardly in the mindset to read about the road to someone else’s happily ever after, the journey of my life has been a difficult one to say the least. That being said! I thoroughly enjoyed the escape and thoughts/feeling and positivity that Melodie brought to the table in this box set. It is always a nice reminder that this life is the life you have and to make the most of it and to help those around you learn to appreciate the small things and to do things for themselves to find that silver lining as well. There are always going to be bumps in the road, it’s how you choose to work through said bumps that really matters, and to find someone that balances you out, that’s the real treat in life!

The authors style of writing allowed you to become completely immersed within the pages of these novels and to fall in love over and over again, not only with the characters, but with the world as a whole, and to bring those feelings, happiness, and light filled days back to the real world with you. Pixie was truly a breath of fresh air, Office Guy brought his own set of emotions and feelings with him, being the lovable nerd we all know in our own lives, and the friends and family that surround them are more than anyone could ask for. I would be more than happy to read more by this author and look forward to recommending this read to others looking for a little light. Well done!

Finding Melody and The Wedding Special Boxset by Laura Rossi contains both books in the Melody Boxset. It is a fun romantic comedy with a friends-to-lovers and opposites attract element. Lots of humour as well as touching moments make this a story to remember. Right from the beginning I couldn’t help but like these two characters and found myself wholeheartedly cheering them on the whole way through.
What happens when our free-spirited creative hippie meets her crush, Office Guy, who’s more serious and definitely more conventional than Melodie… We move from them meeting and becoming friends, to more, in the first book. Then to meeting their families and all that entails, as wedding bells sound in the distance in the second instalment. Sprinkled with a little angst and drama, this boxset was definitely engaging and entertaining. And being a boxset, there is no wait between books, one flows into the next making it my favourite way to read.
I wonder what Ms. Rossi has in store for us next?
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Laura Rossi!
