Dead Sound (Things Unseen, #1)Dead Sound by Anise Eden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thought-provoking psychological thriller
A very unexpected find, this book had me intrigued from the start. A bit of a mix between medical, religion and politics gives this story so much depth. The suspense is layered throughout and takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotions. With romance scattered amongst the pages, this book has it all. A brilliant book that caters for a diverse audience.

I was drawn to Strega due to the supernatural element of witchcraft. I’ll be honest I was off put when I first started reading it. I was really confused trying to figure out what was going on.
It starts with Annie’s baptism then automatically jumps back hundreds of years in time. I understand now it was to build the backstory it all ties together.
In saying all that, trust me when I say give this book a chance. I considered giving up on it, but I’m glad I didn’t and pushed through. It was definitely worth it.
Definitely different in its own right, but at the same time falls right in line with other books in the genre once you figure it all out.
I’m all about supernatural elements in stories but the tragedy in this story is sad but it breeds love and happiness.
Again I’ll say read it, don’t let confusion force you to put it down because you will be missing out!

This was a thrilling and suspenseful 5 star read. This was my first read from this author and I was pulled right in, I look forward to reading more from her.

Nev (Neviah), who works as a therapist returns to work after being stabbed. Some of the patients have started to act very unusual and talk about an apocalypse. Wondering what is going on she works with Con (Cornelius) to try and get some answers. They have a close friendship but also have some hidden feelings for each other. As they work together, they discover some dangerous things that make them targets by some dangerous people.

Will they survive? Can they solve the mystery?

Overall this was a gread read with suspense, romance, tragedy and so much more. The author does a great job with her writing. I was on the edge of my seat as I was reading to see what was coming next. All of the characters added a great element to the story. The ending was great and I can’t wait to read more from this series and author. 1-click and get started today.

Angela Scotti (Annie) is a third year medical student running from her past and her present, to the shores of Massachusetts. In this little town she will learn more about the past and herself than she ever thought imaginable. As well as the generations of strong women of Italy that came before her.
I feel so empowered after reading this book! I loved the tone and the strong emphasis on female strength and empowerment! Russell created such a detailed and emotional love story that it brought me to tears! I could really feel the emotions from the characters! I really felt like I was there with them. A must read!

The baptismal font cracked in half in the local church on the day that Annie was born – a very bad omen to her italian-american family. They resorted to baptising her in her grandmothers salad bowl.

This is just the beginning of this engaging book about Annie’s very interesting life. As she ages, the whispers she has always heard begin getting louder and louder. Every stage of Annie’s past and present are wonderfully shared in this book and it kept me turning the pages. A new author for me, but not one that will get old.

Wow I really enjoyed this story. I love how the author mixes past and present and how it works along a family tree. I think the element about reincarnated life’s was interesting too and added a different element to this story.

In every generation in Annie’s life the women have a gift. The gift of special powers. Throughout the years their gifts have been hidden as they were made to feel less superior to men. Having special gifts was seen as a curse and something to fear.

Fast forward to the present day and we meet Annie. Annie is training to be a doctor but that isn’t going great. She’s always in a relationship with Dillon but again it isn’t good. Looking to escape she leaves and finds Angel Rock. While getting herself together she uncovers her family history, how it links her to Angel Rock and sets her on the path to find a love so strong that even time and death couldn’t part it.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. The story caught my attention from the beginning where it described the area of Italy the family is from. The descriptions of the area is beautiful and the characters are also well written and helped transport me into the story. The history, romance, some suspense, and magic all combined to make this a story I didn’t want to put down. I really enjoyed this book and will be checking for future books by this author.

Dead Sound (Things Unseen Series Book1) by Anise Eden – Review by Rosanna Ingram

Dead Sound (Things Unseen, #1)Dead Sound by Anise Eden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow…there is so much going on in this book and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Neve is returning to work after an attack and is stunned by the scene she walks into. Turns out, she is the center of something that she has no idea about. Her boss, Rosanna (the first time I have ever seen my own name as a character!), tries to talk her into going home until things settle down. Neve refuses as she wants (and needs) to be back at work.

Another person who wants to keep Neve safe is a fellow doctor, Cornelius (known as Con). They both have a mutual attraction that they keep hidden…or so they think. Neve hasn’t acted on her feelings because she doesn’t want to ruin their friendship…and Con hasn’t because, until recently, Neve had a boyfriend.

As the hospital is dealing with the patients who believe Neve plays an important role in thwarting the apocalypse that will be brought on by another doctor, Neve and Con must work together to figure out what is going on. As they are working through the clues they are coming across, they find themselves knee-deep in the underbelly of Washington DC and a political conspiracy.

There are so many aspects of this story that work well together to create an adventure like no other…tragedy, romance, mental health, politics, suspense, and love. It’s all there, woven together seamlessly. This was the first book that I have read from this author…but it won’t be my last!

“Strega- Magic: The Spirit Never Dies” written by Lynne Russell is a captivating historical novel surrounding an Italian family that uses magic. The first few chapters introduced many characters, which was a bit confusing for me at first and I struggled to get into the story. However, as soon as Annie was introduced, I was hooked! I truly admire the courage she had to make some difficult changes in her life in order to listen to her heart. The love story between her and Ian is very cute and her character was so strong and independent! Being Italian myself, I especially loved all of the detail given to traditions and descriptions of Italy! This was the first book I’ve read by Lynne Russell and I can’t wait to read more!

This is one of those books that takes sucks you in from page one and holds you all the way until the end. I love how the author starts write off jumping into the story action. There are no dreary pages of descriptions of the landscape around them. Grab you by the seat and let’s go action is the best way to go. The premise of the plot was exciting. An original way to cover the apocalypse theme and it was awesome. Everything ran together like a smooth jazz song. Highly recommend.

This book is utterly captivating. I was immediately drawn into this story from the very first page. I was cheering for Annie the entire time that she was on a fascinating journey of self discovery. This book really highlights how important it is to listen to your intuition and to always follow your heart. Just because the life you want might not be what’s expected of you it’s never to late to change the course of your life and take a different path. It can be so hard to reach for happiness but it’s worth the risk and the connection between Annie and Ian is sheer magic! The flashbacks to an older time and exploring family history was so fascinating. This book is unlike anything I’ve ever read before and I absolutely adored it! This is definitely a must read story of romance and self discovery that transcends time itself.

Intriguing I feel is the best way to describe Dead Sound! I didn’t love it but I didn’t dislike it either. I wanted to know what was happening which kept me reading!
I enjoyed how the author wrote the characters as well. Con was definitely a protector, especially when it came to everything Neve. Neve on the other hand seems to do what everyone does(which is extremely relatable), she can’t apply what she knows to herself. What I mean is, as a therapist she knows how to navigate situations and help talk other’s through things, but she seems to struggle applying that same concept to her life.
Returning to work after being attacked, Neve walks onto the psychiatric floor and is greeted by patients worshiping at her feet, unnerving to someone who was attacked the last she worked. Seems to get caught up in a dangerous conspiracy due to one of her established patients Amos.
Con, a colleague of Neve who wants to be more, does everything he can do to protect Neve from getting sucked into the dangerous conspiracy, he also being one of Amos Doctors, feels the information that was decrypted from the “Book of Amos” would put her in to much danger despite the promise she made.
What does Con do?
Does Neve find out he’s withholding from her?
How is her boss involved?
What has Amos done?
If those questions intrigue you as much as they intrigued me, you really need to check this book out! You’ll want to know what happens, and the only way you’re finding that out is reading for yourself!

Strega: Magic: The Spirit Never Dies is such a wonderful read! It is out of my normal genre but I found it refreshing and welcomed the fantastic story-telling of the author. The way she was able to describe the characters, scenery, and emotions made me feel as though I was a spectator in 1800’s Italy and modern day Massachusetts. Even though a love story is at the center of this novel, it is far from a romance. The twists and turns made me want to keep reading until I was finished and even then, I wish the story could have gone on longer. I loved this book!

The best thing for me is finding new authors and new books. This was just the ticket. I love paranormal or fantasy type books and I love the way this one was written. The multi timeline element of this book really works well. I like how the past was used and how it really was the key to everything. The author really has a unique and refreshing story.

I was really hooked from the beginning and I could not put this book down. From the historical part of the book to the present day the story was flawless and really flowed well. I look forward to more from this author and I really hope this is the beginning of a good series.

OMG! This story is a great suspense psychological thriller that is a mad page turner. Conspiracies check, Political agendas definitely, lies and deceit absolutely, deadly and dangerous games oh yeah. This is a dangerous world our characters suddenly find themselves in one that goes far beyond what one can imagine, one where the reach is far and wide. It is an intricate and complex web that this author has cleverly crafted and it is one that is masterfully thought out and executed and is spellbinding and had me agitated, sitting on the edge and heart pounding. It is unpredictable, the tension is palpable and it has just the right amount of humour.
It is a political psychological thriller at its best. I am not going to give anything away it is one little gem that is best discovered all by its self.

From the first sentence of this book, I felt like I was watching a movie. Absolutely captivating. I cannot begin to put into words how drawn in I was by not only the mystery/thrill aspect of this novel, but the romance between Neve and Con.

This book is definitely going to be making its way to my shelf. I wish I could read it again for the first time. To say I loved this novel would be an understatement. It has even moved its way into my top ten favorite reads; which is incredibly difficult to accomplish.

Yes yes yes!!!!!!!!
Now this is a five star read!
If you are a fan of psychological thrillers, reading this is a must.
There is humor, there is romance but you NEVER see it coming!
If you don’t believe me let me tell you I read this in one sitting!
This story starts with our main girl returning from a tragedy that happened at work!
Has she recovered, can she move forward?
Now this has a dystopian trope to it that does not disappoint.
Anticipation is an understatement and let’s say we all need a bestie like Con.
This author made me feel like I was part of this story in such a plot she introduces humor at just the right moments.
The ending had me ready to reread automatically.
I cannot stress this enough, you will be hooked by the first page.

“…..Please tell me you believe me, I’m begging you!”

I don’t know how I got through life without have a book by this author to read.  I have had the pleasure of reading several now and each of them has me reading as much and as often as possible, sometimes even while working (but don’t tell my boss).

Sofia and Enzo are absolutely electric together.  They fight their mutual attraction even though they know how the other feels until they cannot resist each other any longer.

There are some steamy moments,  suspenseful/dangerous moments and even some laughs here and there mixed in.

The characters are well developed and I find myself counting the days until the next one will be released.   I need to find out what happens next with all of these amazing people.

Strega- Magic: The Spirit Never Dies by Lynne Russell.
I have read quite a few of this author’s books before and really enjoyed each and every one. This book is a bit of a departure from what I have come to expect- but just as well written and enjoyable as the others. It also has the humorous touches that I love about her books.
A romantic suspense with witches, history, magic, the paranormal, drama, reincarnation, betrayal, tragedy, and dramatic developments…. which kept me turning the pages to discover how everything played out in the end.
Looking forward to seeing what she does next.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Lynne Russell!

Literally, this book had me under its spell! I had always had an interest in magic and all that goes along with it. I for one have always been a believer, and wondered on the history as well as what different kinds of magic existed. I was pulled right in, many things were going on, but it made the appeal more amazing!

The story of the awesome female courageous characters sold the deal for me right from the bat. All I got to meet while reading had different strengths and really showed how powerful they were, not just with the magic, but mentally minded. I loved that aspect. I was very much interested in the fact the book dealt with Italian Magic. It was all new to me and certainly brought on the intrigue! For me Annie was so easy to love as a character. She was the one who had to undergo a lot, and she came out stronger than I think both her and I thought possible. The story brought on action and everything gets explained as you read though! I do love a book that makes me question in the first few chapters, and I get answers later!

The pace was very easy flowing as I have said. The events that happened made the story take shape. I wish I was there with Annie, I would have had so many questions and wanted to partake in the experiences. The book was well thought out in terms of writing, I really enjoyed it. Its one I will be recommending to people as well. The history that came to light, more less the past, it was very visual for me and it made sense completely, and was a nice thing for the story I found. It was a wonderful, amazing, and magical read that was very enjoyed! The story brought everything, and delivered well!

This was a good read, it brought on emotions and suspense very well for me as well as the other adaptions I had gained from reading this book. I was intrigued more than I can put into words. The history was my favorite part and watching Annie grow and shape, and learning about the Italian magic and past and things happened was amazing to visualize! High recommendation for this amazing book!

This was a really good book! I’ll admit, at the start I was a little iffy on it, and it took several chapters to really get into it and start understand what was going on but once that got cleared up I couldn’t put this book down and it made it a very quick story to read! It was so good! The imagery is incredible. The author is able to describe every that is seen and felt in incredible detail and I felt like I was there with every character in this story, no matter what time period. I was extremely impressed with that. This is not the first book I’ve read from this author before but I wasn’t sure what to expect wit this story. But I highly recommend this one, it was really good, and enthralling to read!

Strong start to a mafia series! Suspense, politics, a large cast of characters (both likeable and ones you love to hate), assasins, mafia princesses, arranged marriages, bodyguards…this book has so many aspects that keep you enthralled, and it’s put together beautifully by an author who knows how to keep you involved in her world. Lil is an excellent female protaganist, Max is a dominant alpha male, and this story is an enthralling trip through their relationship as it grows and changes. Book 2 keeps a great pace in the series. This time around the story centers on Enzo and Sofia…best friends, love interests, willing to stay away from each other to protect the other. This is it’s own stand alone novel, but I think it’s better if you read book 1, as there are a few familiar characters and connections that improve the overall experience.

This author offers characters with nice development, a robust backstory, plenty of intrigue and romance to keep you following. These books make for a pretty quick read, as they are hard to put down! Check out the series!
