Unsettled Scores (DAG Team #2)Unsettled Scores by Kel O’Connor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Unsettled Scores is the second book in the DAG Team series by Kel O’Connor. This is my first book by Ms. O’Connor, and I reallly wish I had realised that this was the second book in the series before I dove in. Even though this could be read as a standalone, I feel I would have benefitted by reading Book One before embarking on this story. There appears to be a crossover of timelines and events between this book and the first- so I will definitely be going back to read ‘Broken Bits’ before reading any further instalments in the series.
This is an exciting romantic suspense with plenty of action, adventure, drama, danger, and steam. The death of Amy’s sister 3 years previously has impacted her life on so many levels and driven a wedge between her and the rest of her family. Her thoughts are full of anger and revenge- which leaves little room for anything else. She focuses on her work as a way of dealing with her pain- but she isn’t really living. Her latest assignment brings things to a head…
Hugh Bainbridge IV is determined to uncover how drugs are being smuggled into his mother’s charity, which brings Amy into his world. She more than intrigues him and soon they are both thrust into a highly volatile situation. Sparks fly, chemistry sizzles, secrets are revealed, while danger abounds.
Can’t wait for more of DAG Team!!!

Thank you, Kel O’Connor!

Unsettled Scores: Book 2 of the DAG Team Series by Kel O’Conner another fantastic romantic thriller and addition to this series. I don’t read blurbs or take much notice of covers as I like to go in blind with no expectations. I quickly realised that this was book 2 so I stopped and grabbed book one and I suggest you do the same before starting this book. I loved the simple cover on this one and was glad that I knew nothing of this story as it was thoroughly engrossing. It is also engaging, action packed, and romantic. This is only Kel’s second book, but it has certainly put her on my TBR list as a go to author. Her narrative, world building, plotting and character building is spot on and makes you want to go back for more.

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Way Out: An Arranged Marriage Mafia Romance is the first book in the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley.

Oh my goodness, I loved this book. This is not my first book by Amy McKinley, so I already had high expectations when I started reading, and this book did not disappoint.
Liliana is nothing more than a pawn in her father’s wicked games. He sees her as a bargaining chip, and she is trapped in this dangerous and suffocating world until he sets her free. I love the strength and fierceness of Liliana, she is feisty and smart in the face of uncertainty and betrayal.
Max is assigned to be Liliana’s bodyguard, but this is no accident as he has a dark history and past that he is determined to save Liliana from. I love the style of writing in this book, it feels as though the author has really found her words with this genre, I couldn’t stop reading.
I can’t wait for book two!

Tainted I felt was a must read after reading the description and I fell in love immediately. The story is quick to draw you in with Sarah getting woken up by the FBI looking for documents her ex-husband stashed inside her house. We quickly learn who the bad guy in the story is but even knowing the information she manages to keep you hooked, on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what happens next. Her descriptive characters allow the reader to picture them in their mind and the scenic description in Red River makes you feel like you are walking the town with the main character.
The author makes you pull for Matt and Sarah to rekindle the romance they had in high school. And for the sexy marshal to pin down who is behind the threat on her life. The author pulls you in to the drama knowing Matt is trying hard to protect Sarah especially after losing his wife to a deadly disease. This book will have you on the edge of your seat and may provoke sleepless nights as you fight to read to the very end. I cannot recommend this book enough and am so very glad this author came across my radar as I was searching for a new book to get lost in.

Elizabeth Hartman thought she had a near-perfect life: loving, successful husband, 2 children, a nice home, and the chance to volunteer to help those less fortunate than herself. But that all falls apart when her husband is arrested and convicted of money laundering. Hoping to escape the past, she and her daughter Liz travel from Fort Worth to Red River, New Mexico to spend their summer at their family cabin. But they just can’t seem to escape their past, which includes Liz’s high school boyfriend, Matt, who just happens to be the sheriff of Red River. Trying to stay away from the danger that seems to be following them, Liz also finds herself trying to avoid rekindling the flame with Matt.

Marsha West knows how to write a fantastic novel! Liz and Lauren, her daughter, are strong lead women characters, which is always a plus in any story. Matt is likeable, and Gerry, the ex-husband’s evil just seeps right off the pages of the story. Marsha draws the reader in and the mystery involved was a fun one! Definitely a 5 star read! Highly recommend!

Okay so I was late to the game of watching the Breaking Bad tv show and just binged watched that this summer with the gf and this book gave me crazy Breaking Bad vibes! Which is a good thing! I loved it. I loved all the action, drama, suspense, and the underlying romance kept me on my toes and really invested in the characters completely. This is my first time reading Marsha R. West as well so I am super excited to have found a new author to dive into a catalog with hopefully!

This book takes you to the beautiful mountains of New Mexico with Liz, good name eh lol, as she tries to rebuild her life after her husband is found guilty of money laundering. It isn’t going to be an easy break away though as the danger follows her. Matt the love interest is only the icing on the cake in the story I tell you that much! This is one you don’t want to miss if you love suspenseful crime novels with romance!

Amy McKinley never disappoints me. This was so good, you have Mafia Princess Liliana who is a total boss. The phrase “She is beauty, she is grace, she will punch you in the face” is the best way I can describe her. She knows that her father is using her as a pawn to get the best deal to save himself and will not go quietly. Matt is her ticket to freedom but he has secrets and once he unleashes the truth there is no coming back from it. This book was packed with action, love, spice, and friendship. Amy McKinley blew me away with it and I cannot wait to read the next one!

I enjoyed this action filled story. This is the second book in this series which I enjoyed. This is a newer author for me which I have enjoyed. I am pulled into the story from the beginning and the author’s use of details made the story feel realistic. This is a well written story that I found to be fast paced and engaging. I had a hard time putting this book down. The characters are relatable and give life to the story. Amy has been estranged from her family for the past few years because she blames herself for the death of her sister. Now she is out for revenge. What will happen when her past comes crashing into her present and she is presented with a choice of revenge or love? What will she choose? I enjoyed the twists and turns that kept me turning pages. They had me wanting to know what would happen next. I really enjoyed what Amy brought to the story and how strong she is. A great story full of secrets, revenge and a murderer that needs to be caught. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens with Amy and if love wins out.

I am pulled into the story from the beginning by the characters. The author’s use of details make her story feel realistic. Her characters are connectable and keep the story engaging. This book is no different. It is well written and the characters brought the story to life on each page. This is a story of an arranged marriage along with secrets and who doesn’t love a hot, steamy mafia man. This is a story about Max and Liliana. They are great, strong characters that have awesome chemistry. I also enjoyed the growth throughout the story with them. She is born into power but is just a pawn for her father. He wants what’s his and revenge against those who wronged him. You don’t want to miss what happens with them. This is a must read story that I highly recommend.

No Way Out: An Arranged Marriage Mafia Romance by Amy McKinley is the first book in the Mafia Elite series. This is a fantastic start to a new series and the kind of book you will have to read in one sitting.
I have come to learn with this author that it doesn’t matter what she writes it is always amazing. So much so that I picked up this book without reading the description, no hesitations. I was completely swept away by this story from the second I started reading. I connected with the characters and with their journey. I was taken on their highs and lows and experienced everything with them. I didn’t want this book to end – even more so because it read it so quickly.
This is an explosive start to a new series and I am already chomping at the bit for the second book.

Tainted is the first book I have read by Marsha West, and I would read more in the future. While I am not 100% sold on the writing style (too much dialogue and the mother/daughter relationship was too lovey dovey), I really enjoyed the book. The story is unique, and the characters are well written. It is a romantic suspense centered around starting over when your world comes crashing down around you. Liz Hartman is left picking up the pieces and trying to restart her life as a middle age woman, after her husband (now ex) is arrested and sent to federal prison for money laundering. Even from prison, he seems to find a way to torment and harass her.
She is constantly getting questioning stares, as everyone assumes she had to have been involved in the scheme. She wants nothing more than a clean slate, but struggles with the idea of walking away from her home to start over. Lucky for her, she has two homes. She has visited a little town in New Mexico annually, her whole life. Maybe this is the perfect place to build a new home. To help things along, the Marshall in town is her high school sweet heart. Can they rekindle their romance 20+ years later?

Kel O’Connor lives with her husband in the mountains of North Carolina. They are proud parents of two brilliant, witty and gorgeous young-adult offspring. In addition to reading and writing, she adores coffee, loud rock music, the smell of old books, and subversive humor.

Random facts:

My love of romance books began in my early teens when I would steal my mother’s Harlequin Presents and read them under the covers after bedtime.

I hate vacuuming. Before we were married back in the mid-90’s, my husband agreed that I would never have to do that particular chore. He has never gone back on this agreement. Who says fairytales do not come true!

The pair of hot pink cowboy boots I bought in college changed my life.

Random things I love: coffee, Converse sneakers, finding hidden bargains, the internet, the color pink and daisies

This book will have you hooked from start to finish! I loved the mystery and intrigue of Matt / Max’s identity, the badassness of the mafia princesses, and the loyalty/hate the characters had for one another.

At first it was a bit confusing keeping all the family trees separate, and I had to flip to the beginning of the book a couple of times to see the tree they provided, but I feel it was really well written and easy to understand after a short time of getting to know the characters.

I like that the book had more than one point of view so you got both main characters’ thoughts and feelings. I’m very interested to see where things go in the next book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging novel, the first one I have read by this author but it definitely will not be the last. This romantic suspense story was a real page turner and had me hooked from page one. When socialite and philanthropist Elizabeth’s husband is arrested for money laundering she looses the trust of those in her hometown of Fort Worth. Having divorced her husband she takes her teenage daughter and their dog and drives to Red River, New Mexico to her family’s cabin to spend the summer. Liz was hoping for a peaceful holiday away from the suspicious looks and the FBI who still suspect her of knowing about her husbands crime, however danger seems to have followed her.

When Liz asks local law enforcement for help she’s surprised to find that the town’s marshal is her old high school sweetheart Matt. Matt had moved to Red River to escape the Dallas murders that took his partner’s life. Matt is determined to keep Liz and daughter Lauran safe. The more time Liz and Matt spend together the more they try to fight their attraction for one another but maybe they can both have a second chance at love. The setting really comes alive due to the descriptive narrative which made me feel immersed in the story. The characters are all likeable and relatable which helped me feel engaged with them. The storyline flowed well and the plot had plenty of drama, suspense and romance to keep me happily turning the pages. A great read and one which I recommend.

Tainted is a fantastic romantic suspense novel by Marsha R. West. I had not read any of this author’s work before reading Tainted so was unsure what to expect from this book. What I can say is it’s one of the best books that I have read in a while. I was really gripped by this book and did not want to put it down.
I absolutely loved thew two main characters Matt and Liz. Both are very relatable characters and you really become invested in their story. Along with these two, Liz’s daughter Lauran and Matt’s daughter Sarah also play very large roles in the book. I really loved the relationship between Liz and Lauran. There is such a close bond between the mother and daughter and both would do anything for the other.
There is a lot of drama and suspense in this book, related to Liz’s ex husband who is in prison for money laundering. He’s determined to get Liz back and causes mayhem for her, even from his prison hospital.
Tainted is well written and the storyline flows really well keeping you entertained and gripped from the very beginning right up to the very end.
100% recommend this book.

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Have you ever been so frustrated, overtired and filled with so much RAGE that only one little thing will push you over the edge….. Well this is where Marcy finds herself. One nightmare has driven her to the brink of uncomfortable RAGE. She’s alienated everyone close to her. And now to make matters worse the man she loves has given her an ultimatum, she has to get help or it’s over (what an ass).
Just when she thinks life can’t get any worse she gets held at gunpoint…. that’s when it happens, that’s the point where her RAGE gets pushed over the edge of no return.
But as luck will have it, that’s when she meets the one person that might just be able to get her back from the brink of disaster.

This is a, on the edge of your seat, nail bitting, page turning kind of book.
Linda Burson knows how to hook you into a book coma. Marcy is a very well thought out character. The storyline definitely leaves you wondering. Don’t blink or you will miss something and believe me you will not want to miss anything.
Great start to a great series.

And what makes this even better is you het the first 3 books in 1!!!!
That’s a bonus because believe my you’re not gonna want to stop after the first book

The ending threw me for a loop, I thought all was peaceful and calm and the book took a different turn!
I love the relationship she has with her daughter, it is nice to see her daughter support her through the hurricaine that was their father. There isnt much info on the son but that seems typical after the ordeal and the mess he had to pick up now managing all the stores by himself.

Tainted was a really enjoyable read. It didn’t take me long to become fully absorbed in what I was reading. This is the first book that I have read by this author and definitely won’t be the last. I really like the main character, Liz; she had been through so much in her life and she dealt with it so well. She was a likeable character and I enjoyed reading about her. The cabin in the mountains that she went down sounded so lovely and idyllic, definitely what Liz needed after everything with her husband. Sparks definitely flew when she was faced with someone from her past. I loved the twists and turns in the story, the author did a great job with the suspense running through the book.
Overall, I thought this was a great read and one I would highly recommend.
