Dark Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 5) by India Kells – Review by Melissa Agena

Dark Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #5)Dark Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having a deep dark past can push you to a point of no return. Sam has finally had it. The last straw has finally broken. Dark Bastard is the fifth book in the Dark Sparrow Series by India Kells. Just as amazing as the books that came before it, this story takes us on a journey of two broken souls and a past that comes back to threaten them once again. Sam is about to make the most important call of his life when he makes a mistake and winds up talking to a woman who just might need him more than he thinks. And just when he thinks that Ellie is going to be okay, that deep dark past I spoke about earlier, yeah that one…well that comes back to hit him right in the face. Sam and Ellie both seem to have similar situations. Both the need to feel like the hero and savior and they both have sordid pasts. These two characters work so well together. You can’t help but fall in love with them and the story itself. I completely love this book and love this series. Of course, I always suggest that you read the series from the beginning that way you aren’t lost. However, you can read this book by itself. This book will not disappoint and I most definitely cannot wait to read the last book in the series!

This was an intriguing story from the beginning to the explosive end. Both Sam and Ellie are ready to embrace death after different traumatic events begin to take their toll, but a misdialed number brings them together in a twist of fate. Sam seeks out Ellie to make sure she’s okay, and she gets dragged into his dark, twisted world when his dad kidnaps them both for a sick agenda to take Sam under his wing. The pair work together to find an escape, but it’s uncertain if they can survive the mental anguish and seeds of doubt Sam’s dad plants during their captivity. They fall in love, but can they survive long enough to find a happy ending together.

Stripped (Stripped Book 1) by Stacy-Deanne. This is my first book by this author but for sure won’t be my last. Its the story of Dee Quarter and Connie Wilks who are Baltimore Detectives and new partners. Dee is brought back around to her ex Grayson who is still very much interested in her when she and Connie are called to work on a murder case. She is very happy with Winston her now boyfriend and she doesn’t want to do anything to mess that up but when she is forced to meet Johnathan who is the leader of a Cult called The Circle she ends up getting mixed feelings between Johnathan and Winston. The Circle is a group of women that live and look up to Johnathan. Johnathan is determined to bring Dee on board of the circle. Will Dee lose to Johnathan and end up being a victim and will she lose the love of her life Winston because of this crazy cult. This is a great read about a “Sex” cult and the detective that is determined to shut them down.

Unbreakable (The Diamonds, #1)Unbreakable by Tee Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my stars! I would give this book higher than 5 stars if I could. Erin and Ripper’s story just got me in the feels. They meet at the Free Clinic where she is a nurse. He has been stabbed in an altercation. He’s part of the Diamonds (a gang of older members). The chemistry is there from the start. Through a series of misadventures, a friendship/romance builds. Shock is there when they find that Erin’s stepfather is an important leader in the Diamonds but Erin stands up for herself. There is; some trouble brewing at the wharf which brings physical harm to all, including Erin. These two get through it all with courage, strength (even after important history is shared).I didn’t see that ending coming. The author did a tremendous job with this story. She also left it with a cliffhanger that will leave you eagerly awaiting book 2! The characters have flair and personality, Jay and Sebastian are like sassy hoodlums. Erin’s boss feels like any boss you may have had, stern and needs to chill. The neighborhood made think of the bays you see in the movies. Overall, a book you have to read if you like an action-packed romance.

There’s a common expression I remind myself of every day: that which does not kill us, makes us stronger.
People think I live an idyllic life with my perfect husband, but they don’t know what lies beneath the façade.
Like the delicate petals of the daisies he loved to give, I was easily crushed—broken, just as he wanted me to be.
I’ve learned to accept what is, but I won’t let it destroy me.
Instead, I do the only thing I can to survive—I run.
Derek
I knew she had a story. I knew it most likely contained violence, but never did I imagine the horrors she’d been though.
I’d waited so long and she’d experienced so much. She was perfectly imperfect, her scars more than skin deep.
It was near impossible to separate truths from lies, but I knew her secret. Yet, I couldn’t help wanting to get closer. She was strong, and there was beauty in strength.
I was drawn to it—drawn to her.
I wanted to erase her horrors and give her something new to dream about.

Dark Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells. This author never lets me down. Each book I get to read is better than the last. Sam and Ellie may have seriously stolen my heart with their story. From page one I was drawn in and couldn’t put the book down. I loved the time I got to spend with these characters, they had a way of bringing the storyline to life and it was an honor to read. I love books with characters who go through what would break others but makes them stronger. This book fit that completely. This is definitely going in the top 5 of favorite reads for this year. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Five huge stars and highly recommended! So excited for more from this amazing author!

4 Stars!!!!

I have to say that this is a great series. I have read the whole lot and it is definitely a great read. Marcy has a very complicated life but one does get drawn in and lost in it. I lile how the author has taken and handled the subject. There is just enough drama in the story.

I really like how the story unfolds in each consecutive book and how it all entwines the whole story together. This is a great way to get started with this series. I definitely would read more from this author.

Stripped (The Stripped Series Book 1)Stripped by Stacy-Deanne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Stripped is the first book that I have read by this author and overall, I really enjoyed it. The story was really interesting and I enjoyed getting to know that characters. The synopsis sounded exciting when I first read it and there were parts of the story that definitely lived up to my expectations. There was a good amount of suspense running through the story and some romance thrown in as well. I think Dee is one of those characters you either love or hate and it did take me some time to warm up to her I have to admit but by the end I was enjoying reading about her.
I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series and more from this author again in the future.

Unbreakable (The Diamonds Book 1) by Tee Smith- Review by Shadel Ayerbe

Unbreakable (The Diamonds, #1)Unbreakable by Tee Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Unbreakable (The Diamonds Book 1) by Tee Smith has romance and suspense. It can be the best of both worlds.

Erin made the decision to return to Rosewood Bay to care for her ailing mother because she was an only child raised by two loving parents. It’s made simpler by the fact that she’s leaving her loveless marriage. She hadn’t planned to fall in love, but life doesn’t often go as planned. The fact that he was tall, dark, gorgeous, secretive, and nothing like her ex just added to the allure. Perhaps a “bad lad” was just what she required in her life.

Curtis “Ripper” Bandura has spent his whole life attempting to escape his problems. He thinks she’s too good to be true when he meets the sultry red-haired nurse. He’s not the kind to marry and start a family. Everything eventually comes apart. For the time being, he’s content to lie in the sun. Trouble, unfortunately, has a habit of following him around, and it’s not long until it threatens to demolish all of his aspirations and goals. He knows he can only keep his history hidden from the woman he loves for so long before it destroys them both. Ripper’s dark history threatens to tear their worlds apart when their worlds intersect. Is it too late for them both to be saved by the truth?

I loved this story and the concept of it as well. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is the first book that I have read from this author, I cant wait to read more of the series.

Dark Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #5)Dark Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve read several of India Kells’ books and I love their romantic suspense, especially in this Dark Sparrow series. In this novel, Sam and Ellie are drawn to each other by a connection where sparks fly immediately, but they both have dark pasts that they have to overcome to be with each other. I felt like I wanted more depth, as this was quite a short read and the resolution seemed too easy. I also wanted to know more about the characters, rather than the plot. I would also mention trigger warnings for childhood sexual abuse and suicidal thoughts. Overall, a quick romance read.

This was a great 5 star read. Once I started I couldn’t put it down.

Sam’s plans change and he is determined to find this woman. With his brother’s help he is able to find where she works and lives.

These two both have heartbreaking pasts. And unfortunately Sam’s dark past comes back to haunt them. Can Sam keep Ellie safe and have a HEA with her?

Overall this was a great read. I will warn that there are triggers in the story. The author does a great job with her writing, you feel like you’re right there with the characters. Both of them are going through a really rough time in life but can they help each other see the light? This book is about the depths of the human soul and how some handle it. There are some sensitive sections of sexual abuse and suicide. I believe the author handles them well and uses them to develop the characters. I liked the characters and it was interesting to finally get to more of Sam in this book. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and reading more from this author in the future.

As she listens to the task she is being set and why, she is even more determined to see it through, apart from having to be stuck in an office again, which is the current bane of her existence, but with her skills and experience, she knows she will do a blinding job.

When Monday morning arrives and Zoe is about to have the interview for her new position, she warms to the woman completing it immediately, however, when Archer Blackwood himself enters the room, Zoe is speechless, but whatever she manages to say gets her the job and the day swiftly gets underway. As the days pass and Zoe is settling into her routine, she cannot deny that Archer is a temptation she is trying her best to resist, but between the work and the long hours in her office translating and drafting, she is exhausted, but every day, something seems to happen to her to annoy her boss even more, he has to deal with some of the consequences.

It is on the third day when the office is attacked and Zoe completely ignores Archers commands and goes out to protect the others working in the office, this is when the attraction between them nearly ignites, until they are interrupted, but later when Archer check in on her at home, things get a little heated and this makes things even more complicated than before, especially when Zoe becomes embroiled in a plot she can’t escape from. Will Zoe be able to protect all those around her while still keeping her sanity and stay alive, or will the players in this twisted game play it better? This a suspenseful romance with twists and turns throughout which lead you down a path you will not want to step off of until you have reached the final destination of the end of the book.

Dark Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel
By India Kells

This book had me hooked right from the start as does every book I have read by this author. I became so invested I read it in one sitting. This book can be read as a standalone but it is my suggestion that you read these books in order for a better backstory and understanding of Sam’s and his brothers history. This book does contain triggers for some people. Both Sam and Ellie are at the end of their rope, they can’t take anymore mentally or emotionally, they are ready to give up on life. A wrong number changes everything for these two. Sam recognizes the same darkness that’s pulling him under in Ellie’s voice and he feels a very strong need to save her. Ellie has been kidnapped by Sam’s psychopath father and Sam will do whatever it takes to save Ellie and Ellie feels the same way about saving Sam from his father especially after learning of the horrific things his father did to him. This story is full of action, drama, romance, family, healing and more. This is a must read, I highly recommend this book. I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

Lost Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #1)Lost Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Deva Landry is a woman with a dark past, she ran away from it and barely survived, but she had some help, in return for a favour which could be called upon any time and now the person who helped her has come calling, but it isn’t all as straight forward as it seems. Aleksei Voronov is a man covered in tattoos who is an MMA fighter with a dark past as well, but he is the one that Deva is sent to watch over, much to her annoyance.

Deva has found a place in a rehab centre for veterans as a physiotherapist and is finally feeling settled when out of the blue an old friend comes calling and asking to call in a favour, she wants her to use her skills as a physiotherapist and knowledge gained from her days as an MC Princess in Chicago to move back there to where it all started and try to observe and protect a man. As they discuss the mission and she meets the man in charge who explains the situation and as soon as she agrees to help, she is put up in an apartment in the north side of Chicago. Her neighbours are lovely, albeit an odd couple and very eccentric but whom endear themselves to Deva pretty quickly and a couple of days of settling in later, she heads over to the gym she will be working in as the new physiotherapist with a mission to keep the MMA fighters who train there fit and ready to fight. However, when she arrives there on her first day, she is surprised to see that the gym is filled with who normally wouldn’t be seen dead around each other, but when she eyeballs the one she is looking for, she is taken aback and that reaction is not normal for her in the slightest.

As Deva becomes part of the furniture at the Gym, she hasn’t officially run into Aleksei and she is worried that she won’t be able to fulfil her mission or her promise, that is until one night when he sneaks into the gym after hours asking for a treatment, but when things get heated between them while Deva is treating him, things get a little spicy, but once Deva cottons on to what is happening, she stops what she is doing and leaves, it is when she realises that it isn’t the kind of treatment he was after. The next day the gym owner is not himself and when she asks what is wrong, it turns out that Aleksei was injured in a fight and needs to get better for his next one in a few days and he asks Deva if she knows anyone who can help, thankfully she does and her mission truly starts when she ends up staying at his apartment to treat him.

This triggers more than a professional relationship when neither of them can deny the burning attraction between them and as they get to know each other more, things get complicated and Deva and Aleksei are thrown together on a mission to protect more than just each other. Will Deva be able to keep her past and present separate, or will it come back to haunt her again? This is a romantic suspense with more action than you can throw a stick at which will dig in its claws and keep you reading until the end.
