Amy McKinley has done it again! No Way Out did not disappoint! I do not know where this author has been all my life, but I am happy to have found her because she is on the top of my 2021 favourite authors list!
No Way Out is book 1 in McKinley’s new Mafia Elite series! It is fast-paced and sucks you in from the beginning wanting you to keep on reading and find out what happens with Max and Liliana.
If you love suspense with some romance mixed in then this book, and author, are for you!

I highly recommend this series and I cannot wait to see where McKinley takes this series next! In the meantime, I will count down the days until I have book 2 in my hands!

I devoured this book in 2 days. I’d rate it 5/5 stars. It wasn’t as heavy on the erotica as I had been led to believe but the characters were well written and invoked real emotion. The story is a tale of a Mafia Princess named Liliana and her struggles living in the brutal but luxurious life of mafioso royalty. From the weaponry and mindset to the descriptions and rationalizations everything was really well written. It was less erotica and more Mob/love story in my eyes but to each their own. The story has lots of twists and turns. Some you expect, but others not so much. I really enjoyed the overall storytelling and look forward to reading the next book. What’s next for these two?! I’ll be staying tuned, will you? Give it a read!

Another hit for Amy McKinley! As soon as I saw she had a new release I knew I had to read!! I’m a sucker for mafia romance and she sure knows how to deliver. I was sucked in from the beginning and I couldn’t stop consuming this book! I’ve never been a HUGE fan of anything labeled “arranged marriage” and if anyone out there is like me- IGNORE that. It’s so much more. (Also- Max? Swoon worthy!) I won’t spoil anything but 👀🔥💖. (Sometimes I feel emojis express things better than my words can!) I’m excited for the next book! If y’all ain’t read her stuff yet- you’re behind the times! Get it! Onto the next 💖

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Although this is the second book in the series, it it technically a standalone, although after reading this book, I wish I’d read book 1 first.
This story keep me on the edge of my seat.
Amy is a complex character having gone through so much, including the loss of her sister – and she is out to seek revenge for her death.
There’s action, suspense, danger and romance. Amy is brought in to find out how drugs are being smuggled into a charity, and she is soon caught up in Henry’s world. I liked Amy, she was interesting to get to know, and Henry was very likeable- together they were a great match.
This is a book that will pull you in from the beginning and keep you there until the end. This won’t be the last book I read from this series.

This is a great start to a new series. There is action, suspense, lots of twists and romance.
Both main characters were interesting. Liliana was not the defenseless Mafia princess I thought she would be, she was a really strong lead and Max was a typical alpha male.
Liliana’s father wants to use her as a pawn in his business, he allocates Max as her bodyguard, but Max soon realises he has feelings for her. Max has been sent in by her grandfather to try and protect her from her father, but what started as a job to get revenge turns into a women he just can’t walk away from.
I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and where the story took them. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
This story is what you would expect from Amy McKinley, so if you’ve loved her previous books, you’ll love this one too.

Right out the gate, it was apparent that some layers of the story were going to be pealed back and there were going to be a few plot twists. My eyes were wide open the whole time, as I knew I was going to be in for some surprises. The story did not disappoint! I love how these mafia women take no mess from any of the people in their lives. As the story developed, I was shook by some of the twists that happened throughout. Just when I thought the characters were in for some relaxation and happiness, BAM! Plot twist, edge of your seat action, and sweet vengeance. The romance was super cute as well, and in general, I don’t think I can find a single bad thing to say about this story. There is also some spice toward the later parts of the book (hooray!). I will most definitely be keeping my eyes open for the next in the series as I have a feeling this is only the beginning…

McKinley is a must read author. Period. I keep wondering how she is going to continue to up the ante. And yet somehow she does – every single freaking time. I’ve come to expect gripping romantic suspense. This foray into the world of the mafia – left me utterly breathless. From the very first chapter I knew this book would be an amazing emotional adventure. And boy was I right. Loved every single page and I cannot wait to see how this series continues.

No Way Out: An Arranged Marriage Mafia Romance (Mafia Elite #1) by Amy McKinley

This is another fantastic read by McKinley. This new series has me sitting on the edge of my seat. No Way Out is the first book in the Mafia Elite Series. Liliana and Max will have you loving them.

Liliana is Benito’s daughter. She wants to get out and there is only one way to do that. When she meets Mattel she knows that he wouldn’t hurt her. The quote I chose for Liliana is: “And who will protect you? Because when he comes for you, and he will, you’ll wish you were dead.”

Max aka Matteo is Antonio’s eldest son who everyone thinks is dead. What they don’t know is he’s very much alive and looking for revenge. Liliana was part of that plan until he fell in love with her. The quote I chose for Matteo is: “From the first moment I saw your picture, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. You haunted my dreams. The stories your grandfather told made you come alive in ways I can’t explain. I grew up around people who were lucky enough to find the love of a lifetime. They would die for each other. I want the same with you.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

No Way Out by Amy McKinley was a pleasant surprise. I don’t believe I have read Mafia Romances before and found out I really liked the concept. There is something intriguing about rooting for the “bad guys” that makes the story more captivating.

Lily wants a way out of her father’s prison. She can tell there is something going down and wants to get a head of the game. She puts her trust into a new face and follows her instincts.

This book has unexpected twists and turns and is a great kick off to a new series.

Unsettled Scores by Kel O’Connor – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Unsettled Scores (DAG Team #2)Unsettled Scores by Kel O’Connor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Unsettled Scores by Kel O’ Connor is book 2 in the DAG Team Series. Amy Stuart has been estranged from her family for three years since the death of her sister Audrey, something that she blames herself for. After her sister’s abduction and death, Amy sets her sights on the drug lord responsible and swears to get revenge on him. When she is hired by lawyer Hugh Bainbridge IV to investigate who is smuggling drugs into his mother’s charity Amy is brought face-to-face with her arch nemesis. Amy now has the chance to fulfill the revenge she has been carefully planning for the past three years.

What Amy never expected was to fall for Hugh, a good-looking lawyer who dresses in sweatpants and is like nobody that she has ever met before. Hugh also finds himself falling for the feisty, strong-willed, and intelligent Amy. As Amy closes in on the drug lord who killed her sister, she finds herself forced to choose between love for Hugh, and revenge for her sister Audrey’s death. Which will she choose?

Unsettled Scores is a real page turner. It is very well written, and the characters are ones you find yourself drawn to. I found myself intrigued by Amy and I admired her strength, resilience, and courage in the face of danger. Although Amy was strong, she also had moments of weakness which made her more likable because the reader could see that Amy was human and that not everyone can be strong all the time. This book is a must read.

Everyone can appreciate a badass heroine; and a hero that does not feel intimidated when she’s in her element. I enjoyed reading this novel. It sheds light on how guilt can cripple one’s ability to let go of the past and its negative effects. I liked the connection between the hero and heroine and appreciated that it was realistic. In that, Amy had to choose between holding on to her guilt and letting it continue to fester or be willing to let it go for something that brings healing and happiness. I also appreciated that the onus was on her to decide and know what is best for herself. This novel was a mixture of intrigue, suspense and romance and one that I enjoyed reading immensely.

Amy knocked this one out of the park-with strong, relatable, likeable, and resilient characters and a complex plot. No Way Out grabbed and retained my attention the minute I started reading; I was anxious and excited to see how the story unfolded. I appreciated the similarities and the contrast between Max and Lil regarding their childhood and how it influenced them as adults. I also appreciated that they took the time to know each other regardless of the whirlwind of happenings around them. I’m a sucker for accountability- so I contented with the end result of the antagonist. READER BEWARE: Way Out will reel you and take you on a rollercoaster of a literary adventure!

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Way Out (Mafia Elite Book 1) by Amy McKinley was a captivating book from the first page. The book is filled with developed characters that keep you wondering what they will do next as the story plays out. It is my first read and not going to be my last read by Amy McKinley. The way she writes her characters it is easy to feel for them whether is it pity, hate, or love. I simply could not put the book down. I just had to keep reading to find out more.

Lilliana is a mafia princess, but not your average one. She is a strong female lead that is determined, skilled, and not a damsel in distress. With a rough life that holds no escape except as a pawn to ensure her father’s power. She has a group of girlfriends that are more like sisters to her and always there to support her. Under her father’s care she is nothing more than a pawn to be played at the right time for his selfish desire for power. She wants nothing to do with being his bargaining chip, but how will she find freedom? Trading one caged life for another to a man of his choosing? Or is there another way?

Life changing events for the ever-cruel Brambilla boss set a new start to things in the mafia world. Enter assassin Matteo Trambino the guise Max takes on with his plan of his own devised to save her from her dangerous father. As the new bodyguard to Lil, he witnesses firsthand the life the mafia princess lives. It drives him even more to follow through with his mission, even if parts of that may be changing as the story progresses. Will he succeed in what he has been sent to do or will he fail?

An amazing read that I would recommend to anyone!

This was the second book in the DAG team series by this author and was just as good as the first in my opinion. I would highly recommend that you read these books in order, so you are aware of the previous story and events as opposed to reading this one by itself. And believe me, the first one is a great thriller as well so you will be sitting on the edge of your seats reading them both. This one I felt had a little more romance than the first book did which I loved, but the drama and suspense is what makes this story. The author has an amazing knack for describing the characters as well as the events taking place around them, so I truly was able to picture this happening in front of my own eyes. This was another page turner for me as I couldn’t put it down, so I was reading past midnight to finish it. But it was all well worth it. If you love suspenseful books, you need to read this series.

This is the first book in this series by this author. I am quite familiar with her writing as I have previously read books written by her for other series. I think she is a wonderful writer with some of the best descriptive writing I have read. She honestly keeps me on the edge of my seat biting my nails with every book she writes. This was probably the best book I’ve read by her to date. I immediately fell connected with the main characters and they did not let me down. This book was full of suspense and drama, but the romance was sizzling hot! I cannot wait until she releases the next book in this series to see where what happens next.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Way Out is book 1 of the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. I am a sucker for a good mafia romance and I am also a sucker for a great book by Amy McKinley. And WOW does she kick this series off right!

Liliana is born into this mafia lifestyle and knows that something is going on with her dad. He’s becoming more agitated and always angry. One thing that Liliana knows is that it somehow includes her. And not in a good way. The only problem is will she be able to find out what he’s up to in time to save herself?

Max (undercover as Matt) is working to take down the people who took what rightfully belongs to him. Even though Liliana is a part of the family that he’s going after, he swears to protect her.

I love the character of Liliana. She’s strong and knows that she has to protect herself from the monsters that surround her. And I loved reading about the relationship between her and Max. What a great story!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the DAG Team Series. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything not having read the first book. That being said, my enjoyment and curiosity has me wanting to go back and read the first book.
Amy Stuart feels she is to blame for her sister’s death and wants to avenge her death. Her work leads her back to where she is from and within reach of her sister’s killer.
Hugh Bainbridge IV hired Data Acquisition Group for help with a smuggling issue. Hugh is not sure if someone broke into their warehouse or if it is an inside job, but he is determined to find out. He does not make a good impression on Amy, but as time goes by, they find they are spending a lot of time in each other’s company.
There is a lot going on in this book, but it is easy to keep up. I loved the heat between Amy and Hugh. Amy is able to compartmentalize unless it is personal. Can Amy get over her own anger and fear and give love a chance? Or is she going to just walk away and not look back?

No Way Out: An Arranged Marriage Mafia Romance is the first book in the Mafia Elite Series by Amy McKinley. What a powerful read. Ms. McKinley is one of my go to authors and I have enjoyed everything I have read by her, but this is by far my absolutely my favorite. At first, I thought it was going to be confusing with all the characters mentioned before the story started. It turned out to be a good reference, but the story was gripping and held me from beginning to end. Max and Liliana have hot, hot, hot chemistry. I can’t wait to get the book in this series. Excellent, Best Read Of 2021 so far.

I have loved everything I have read by this author, especially this book. This author never disappoints, this story is full of action, suspense, romance, deceit and so much more. I was pulled into this story from the beginning and I was kept entertained throughout. Max and Liliana had chemistry from the start and you could feel it jumping off the pages. There are a lot of changes coming for some of the Mafia bosses and some of them aren’t going to make it through those changes. This is a must read if you want to find out what happens, who makes it through and what happens between Max and Liliana and other characters as well. There are some great characters in this story. No Way Out: An arranged marriage mafia romance by Amy McKinley is the first book in the Mafia Elite series and I am excited to read more. It a fast paced an exciting novel with lots of action and likable characters. When Max returns to Chicago from Italy, where he has been living since the death of his mother, he is on a mission, a mission to get back what he feels has been stolen from him and is determined to get back his rightful place as head of the family. Supported by his cousins, Max manages to manipulate the situation to ensure the hand in marriage of Lilianna Brambilla, a mafia princess who is suffocating under her tyrannical father. This is a really enjoyable read, there are a lot of characters and it is difficult to remember who is in which family but the author helpfully puts a breakdown at the beginning of who belongs where. I will definitely be checking out more books in this series.

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley

3.5 rounded up.

While this novel focuses on the mafia crime aspect, with just a slice of dark romance, I enjoyed the tease of if Liliana and Max would actually get together or not. I appreciate that Ms. McKinley focused on building the relationship and trust between them rather than on how quick they could be pushed together.

The copious bad guys in this novel threw me at first. It seemed that Liliana and Max we’re against the world, fighting against multiple mafia bosses at the same time, but I enjoyed how it came to a conclusion. The reasons for things are explained and there is a HEA.

3.5 rounded up for the following: This book started off slow, but gained momentum as it went on. I didn’t really believe the insta-lust that occurred for Liliana, but it was redeemed as their relationship grew and continued. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of the writing style at the beginning, but it got much better as it went along.

Unsettled Scores is book 2 in the DAG team series by Kel O’Connor. This series is meant to be read in order and I would recommend reading book 1 first before reading Unsettled Scores.
I do not think I can explain how much I really enjoyed this book. The characters are phenomenal and make you feel like they are your friends as you go along their daily lives both personal and work while you read the story.
Amy Stuart has been blaming herself for the death of her sister for four years. After being hired by Hugh Bainbridge IV, as a member of DAG (Data Acquisition Group), to help find out who is smuggling drugs into his mother’s charity, she finds herself back in the city where her niece and brother-in-law live hoping to fix her relationship with them and get answers and revenge against the person who has caused her and her family so much pain, but Hugh is attractive and she is just his type. Will Amy be able to focus on her end goal and not the cute lawyer who has caught her attention?
If you enjoy a good suspense novel with lots of descriptive action and some romance added in then I highly recommend this book, and series. I love a good suspense novel and this one kept me wanting to keep reading even when I had to stop. I cannot wait until Kel comes out with the next in the series, because it will be at the top of my to-be-read list and she will now be on the top of my new favourite authors list!
