Awakening (The Journals Trilogy Book 3) AUDIO BOOK by D.M. Earl – Review by Cindy Mayberry

Awakening

The Journals Trilogy

Book 3

AUDIO BOOK

By D.M. Earl

☆☆☆☆☆

This is a full length dark suspenseful romance. Due to the theme and contents of this story. I recommend only those over 18 should be reading this story.

Quinn has escaped her horrible past, with the help of Stone and his men. She is ready to move on, but something still lurks in the shadows. Could it be Walker again? Where is Stone and Walker?   Quinn must gather her strength to get her family safe, once again. Where is she safe? Will Quinn ever be safe again? This is not a nice romance.

D.M. Earl has written this powerful intense series. Everything Quinn has is a fight to keep. I hate to see this series end, but all good things must come to an end. I love each and every character in this series. I love the quick page turning rollercoaster ride. The emotions are out there and ready to greet you. I hope you love this series as much as I have. Well Done D.M. Earl! Well Done!

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by Heidi Schoolman

This is the 1st book in the series.  This is an audio book and is just over 9 hours listening time.  This is written by India Kells and narrated by Antonio Turner.  This story follows Deva and Aleksei.  Deva is physical therapist and Aleksei is a cage fighter born out of Russia and has ties to Bratva. Now, after a decade, she is heading back to Chicago and is pulled back into the underground.  You see, when Deva was rescued 10 years prior, she agreed to return the favor.  That favor has been called in – now she must get close to Aleksei and report back what she has found out.  But now she finds herself in danger once more.

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells

I have read several books by Ms. Kells and enjoyed every single one.  This one is no different,  I loved the story and the narration by Antonio Turner.  He was able to give depth and something to the characters that you don’t always get when reading the book.

Aleksei and Deva clicked for me the moment they met and holy wow did they click.  Those intimate moments were incredibly intense and hot.

I loved this book and look forward to listening/reading the rest of this series.

Absolutely loved this book. The chemistry between the two main characters is on fire. Deva who escaped her life as a Mc princess is called in to pay off a debt and to her distaste it is babysitting Aleksi the sexy, bad-boy cage fighter. Both finding the last thing they thought they would find, true hardcore love and nothing will stand in the way. Cannot wait to read the next installment.

This is the third audio book in The Journals Trilogy and I really enjoyed it. Again, the narration was really good and the book was easy to listen to. This really was a great ending to this series, the action was there from the beginning, I actually think this may have been my favourite out of the series – the author definitely seemed to save the best until last. There were some great and unexpected twists and turns in the story which the narrator really brought to life.

Overall a really enjoyable audio book and a great ending to this series! A must listen!

I enjoyed this book. This is a great romance-suspenseful story. This is a well written story that has characters that not only bring the story to life but also kept it engaging to the end. I found this book to be faster paced and has just enough of the romance and suspense to keep you turning pages. The characters pulled me in from the beginning and just made the story for me. They are connectable and made the story easy to read. This is a story about Jessica and Will. Jessica has just opened a bed and breakfast and Will has found himself taking care of his sister’s children. He was only suppose to take care of them short term but now it has become long term. He finds himself trying to keep them safe as well as meeting a hot woman who he is trying to keep his heart safe from. There are twists and turns that kept me wondering what would happen next. I really enjoyed the characters and what they brought to the story. Great growth and entertaining to read. I highly recommend this book.

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by Mrs R

I really enjoyed the story in this book. The way all the different threads weaved together kept me reading to the end.
Lots of planning must have gone into this book and there were lots of side characters involved and they really added to the story. They were introduced at a pace so you can get to know them and I can see lots more stories to come involving them.
Deva was a character I really struggled to like, and I don’t think I ever did for the entire book. She escaped the brutal MC life and knew she couldn’t safely go back. Yet she exposed herself to the MC groups when she didn’t need to, opening up a huge can of worms that could have easily stayed hidden. She also constantly put herself into dangerous situations she didn’t need to, causing unnecessary problems to the group. I also felt that she inserted herself as the MC expert, even after claiming to have been kept in the dark due to being female, and staying away for 10+ years.
I was quite shocked at Deva’s first interaction with Alesei, but it did set the stage for their relationship, which was extremely fast paced from the beginning.

I enjoyed the narration voice, however some of the accents weren’t consistent, especially during conversations where he had to keep switching from British to American. I also found the audio slow, and listened at x1.5 speed, which seemed to suit me.

Being Lost (Satan's Devils MC San Diego #1)Being Lost by Manda Mellett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Manda Mellett is new to me, and I’m so happy I found her. Needless to say I have already started a stock pile to play catch up. A good MC series is few and far between, but her series is just amazing across-the-board. Lost and Patsy have an amazing story. I love that it’s a love story that shows even with age true love can still always be found. Patsy is a fierce mama bear who protects her cubs at all costs and has more strength then she knows. Her and Lost meet when his MC sends him to keep watch for her son and her. The action, danger, and romantic chemistry are at a all time high. It shows an MC family never backs down, And a biker always gets his old lady.

3 Stars

Out of Time is the fourth book in the Westbeach series by Toni Denise. This is the first book that I have read by Toni Denise, so I really didn’t know what to expect going into the story. I also didn’t realise going in that this is the 4th book in a series- I was too fixated on the cover and blurb to realise that. Having read the story now, I can say that although it could be read as a standalone, there are definitely times I felt like I was missing something, references were made to things that happened previously, that I am not aware of or don’t have all the details to(?). So, I will definitely be going back to read the other three books to see if having that information on board will enhance my reading experience of this book.
Having said that, this was definitely an intriguing romantic suspense that unravelled in a way that kept me thinking, trying to piece everything together before any ‘big reveal’. The author created palpable tension and suspense through her story- which was well done. But I really think I would have enjoyed the book more if I had read the previous books. So, stay tuned, I will revisit this review once I have read the other books to see if they help piece everything together more.

Thank you, Toni Denise!

Grumbler!! I cannot say how much I have fallen for this man and am so happy he has finally found his path in Life!!
I wasn’t 100% sure how I was going to feel about “older” main characters but between Being Lost and Grumbler’s Rider, I am impressed. I have found I do not mind the character’s ages as long as it is a good read. Manda has not failed in her story lines for the San Diego chapter and I am completely looking forward to reading more of her MC books!

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by MPolicicchio

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells

4 out of 5 stars

Lost Bastard by India Kells is a thrill a minute ride into the underworld of crime, gangs, motorcycle clubs, and finding your way out.  The story is crafted so deliciously that you almost forget about all the horrible stuff going on with the characters.  Once inside their world, it is hard to find your way out, just like them.  Amazing storytelling and so many characters to fall in love with and to drool over.  Riding with Lazurus, Deva, and the crew can only get better!

Deva Landry came from a world of violence and pain.  She found a way out.  It wasn’t an easy choice to start over with a new life.  But just all choices, it came at a price.  Now 12 years later, she is being asked to repay her debt.  Deva is thrown back into the world from which she escaped, but this time there is more than just her freedom on the line.

Aleksei Voronov isn’t what he appears to be.  He appears to be a branded, muscled fighting machine.  Aleksei has also known violence and pain but differently from Deva.  When Deva and Aleksei cross paths, their pasts draw them closer together but can the past also serve to tear them apart?  Can their pasts serve the joint purpose that has brought them together in the first place?  Will they find the love they deserve in each other?

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by Angela Shirley

When you get drawn back into the life you thought you have left behind, will she have the courage to loss everything for love.

Deva owes everything she has to one woman who she promised in return one favour, but she she receives a phone call activating “Dark Sparrow” Deva gets worried that she will be drawn into the world she left behind.

Alexsei has fought hard in life literally as he is involved within the underground MMA fighting scene, until one day with the gym he sees her from the ring. He doesn’t know why he is so attracted to this formidable woman but he needs to get closer to her. The only problem is he is dangerous and she is innocent how can he involve her within his world.

Until one night when both worlds collide and will they ever be able to pursue the love and attraction which is there for both of them.

I loved this story as the first in the series it lays some of the groundwork for the series but it is gripping from the first word written. The story is full of twists and turns with gangs and mobsters, killings, manipulation in buckets.

The secondary character provide a great arc within the story and I loved how they all interacted with each other and love the way the story weaves and finishes off brilliantly. This is not the first book I have read by this author but this maybe the best series I have read in a long-time. I recommend this book if you love Mob bosses, strong men but even stronger female heroines.

Grumbler's Ride (Satan's Devils MC San Diego #2)Grumbler’s Ride by Manda Mellett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m too old to find love, my bike is all I need but in she walked and I could not resist.

Grumbler is set in his ways, he has been in the MC as long as he can remember and he has given his blood, sweat for the club and although all around him have old ladies he has never been one to go looking for one, until one day he gets the shock of his life and decides to give love a go.

Mary is a single mom, trying to juggle a wayward teenager who is determined to send her insane before her 18th birthday. Alicia’s new torture is to be a model, but Mary is not happy with her going alone as something does not seem right and how right Mary was. With the help of the handsome MC rider can they get themselves out of the mess they have got themselves in.

I love all of the series written by Manda Mellett and this does not disappoint, I loved the relationship between Mary and Grumbler as they seem like an unlikely couple but are so perfect for each other. Also, this is a great older couple story its not all the young people who can find love, the chemistry between was brilliant and the way the characters have been developed made them believable and relatable. The relationship also between Mary and her daughter was brilliantly written and in the end I loved how it all concluded.

I can’t ain’t wait to read the next instalment in this series.

Out Of Time by Toni Denise is the fourth book in the Westbeach series. This book can be read as a stand-alone even though it is the final book of the series.
This is a completely new author to me so I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading. What I found was a great story that was fairly easy to ready with some great characters. The story was well ell thought out and the overall book had a great pace to it. The story just seemed to flow.
I really enjoyed the connection between the two main characters. It was instant and lovely to see play out throughout the book. I thought this book was a good one to introduce me to the author. I think it have an all round view as to the writing style. After this book I know I will be checking out more.

A gripping novel of romantic suspense which had me gripped from page one. Lifelong tourist and adventure seeker Jessica was born with the travel bug but after years on the move she decides to open a bed and breakfast. However when Will, who has taken on his sisters children whilst she’s in rehab turns up at her B&B things take a dangerous turn for them both. Will decides to move himself and the children to a B&B for their safety when he starts to receive increasingly threatening letters demanding money. Will was definitely not thinking about falling in love when he sought refuge at a B&B but once he meets Jessica he thinks she could steal his heart. I loved the main characters and thought that both Jessica and Will were likeable and relatable characters which helped me feel engaged with them. The storyline flowed well and the plot twists kept me hooked and I found this to be a page turner of a novel. Both the set and the characters were bought to life by the authors descriptive narrative. I liked how the relationship developed between Jessica and Will despite the dangers they faced and their chemistry definitely came across in the writing. I read this as a standalone story but it is book four in the ‘Westbeach Series’, which I am now keen to read.

Once again, I have been utterly taken in by a biker story. You would think it would get repetitive, but Manda Mellett does not write the same love story twice. Love can happen even when you aren’t looking. This book has all the common themes I have come to love and expect from this author: Love, Complex Characters, Tight Family Bonds, and Plot Twists that make for quite the RIDE! (tehe, see what I did there?). Some of it was hard to read, but helps the reader understand the characters better. Clear the space on your TBR, cause you’re likely going to want to pick up the next.

Book Review: Grumbler’s Ride
Author Manada Mellette
FIVE STARS
Book 2 in the Satan’s Devils MC San Diego chapter does NOT disappoint. Grumbler is a mid to late 50’s man who has not had the best of luck in life. He has resigned himself to being alone for the rest of his life and he is ok with that.
Mary is in her late 40’s and a single mom. She has her hands full with her head strong daughter who is trying to find a place in the difficult life of being a teenager.
Grumbler is approached by a man who take photographs. This is how he meets Mary, her daughter is modeling and they are using Grumbler’s motorcycle as a prop.
This story is funny as well disturbing. Some of the things the photographer is into is very shady and NOT COOL.
I love the way the Satan’s Devils are able to take down the trafficking of persons. So far I am in love with this series.

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by Sunday Barnaby

Lost Bastard by India Kells

Narrated by Antonio Turner

Five Stars

Lost Bastard is the first book in the Dark Sparrows series by India Kells. I have read/ listened to most of Ms Kells books, and I think this series is going to be a favorite of mine. The suspense and action really held my attention throughout the fast paced book. Deva and Aleksei make a wonderful couple. Both are strong characters who stick together to overcome evil. As they traverse through MCs, cage fighting and the mob, they learn about each other and their families. This series is going to be amazing if this book is any indication. I hope that the secondary characters will flow through the whole series.

The narrator Antonio Turner has a great voice. This is the first book I have listened to by him. He really brought the characters to life and I’m looking forward to hearing more of his narrations.

Awakening is the third book in The Journals Trilogy by D.M. Earl. This series needs to be read/ listened to in order. This series is rough and addicting. There are definitely some triggers in this book. It was a roller coaster of a ride from the very beginning and it never stopped. This book starts where the first book leaves off. Quinn is an amazingly strong woman who has been through unthinkable things. Stone and his crew have come to help settle the score. This whole series was full of vibrant characters. I listened to this book in one sitting because I just had to know how it ended. It was totally worth it!

This book was narrated by Torii Alaniz. Her voice was mellow and easy to listen to. She really brought the characters to life. I look forward to listening to many more books by her.

Awakening (The Journals Trilogy Book 3) AUDIO BOOK by D.M. Earl – Review by Heidi Schoolman

This is the 3rd book in The Journals Trilogy series.  This is a Romantic Suspense and is just under 4 hours listening time.  This is a dark romance so only 18+ should listen and there are situations in the story that could also cause triggers.  This story follows Quinn, Stone, and Walker.  Due to her past, Quinn has been through the wringer and that has made her stronger.  She will do whatever it takes to keep her family safe.  Stone guided her to become who she is today.  All she wanted was to move forward and away from her past.  Stone is there to make sure Walker never comes back.  This trilogy was an intense one and the narrator did a fantastic job with it!

Not all heroes wear capes. I enjoyed the complexity of the plot and the development of the characters. I admired the approach that Manda took in creating the main characters, the vulnerability of Grumbler regarding his age and how the opposite sex views him (this alpha male combating his insecurities). There are two sides to a coin; with Grumbler there is no difference; he is a badass who gets things done and on the other hand, he’s an absolute sweetheart when it comes to those he calls family. Can Mary be a more kick-ass understanding mom! I loved how she was portrayed in this novel. Go, Mary! There were certain situations in the novel that did not sit well with (unfortunately for some this is a reality); bless the heavens justice was served. Readers beware. I recommend this slow-burn intriguing page-turner.

Manda Mellett does not disappoint. This is the second book of hers I read, and once again, the characters are flawed, relatable, and complex. It’s easy to get Lost (see what I did there?) in the world of bikers that she builds. I loved that the MC’s were older. I love the close bonds of family and friendship that exists between the members of the Satan’s Devil MC. The mystery was intriguing, and the character and story development was exciting to experience. My only problem is now I think I will need to read her entire collection… Oh no, there goes my TBR!

I am totally all in with this book! The narrator was truly fantastic in this audio as well. This book is full of twists and turns with suspense, fighting MMA, mafia and mobsters. I loved the spark between Aleksei and Deva. Having a strong female character with Deva, I enjoyed her spirit no non-sense style. Deva comes back from being away as a favor and has to get close to Aleksei whom has some dark ties. This book is just so fantastic, cannot wait to continue this series.

Lost Bastard (Dark Sparrow Novel Book 1) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by Anastasia Dodson

India Kells does it again with this great audio. The story pulled me in and didn’t let me go until the very end. The Narrator was a good choice for this book, I don’t listen to male narrators very often but Antonio Turner did a great job. He has a nice voice and i lost myself in the story and his voice. The drama, suspense and romance kept me coming back and the characters made stay. I will listen to more by this author in the future and i wouldn’t mind listening to this narrator again too.
Happy Listening!
