Sons of Sindicato (Sons of Sindicato ) by Cam Johns & Sonya Jesus – Review by Karen Pearman

Sons of Sindicato (Sons of Sindicato #0)Sons of Sindicato by Cam Johns
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I honestly was concerned about reading this book because I normally wouldn’t consider “the mob” as my reading genre. But gosh am I glad that I picked it up. I was immediately enthralled in this suspenseful, interracial love story. I was shocked to realize that I was able to enjoy this book without a lot of mob family knowledge and found myself rooting for them in the end. There are a lot of twists and turns in the plot that will keep you so intrigued and turning the pages faster than you can read them. Or at least it did for me. This was a book I almost found myself wanting to read the last chapter to find out what happened and then reading the middle sections to know how they got there. But I didn’t give into that temptation. And I am glad that I didn’t. Please take the opportunity to pick up this book and read it. I think that you will be happy that you did.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sonya Jesus and Cam Johns are new (to me) authors so I didn’t know what to expect from the novella, Sons of Sindicato. I am not a huge fan of romance, reading mostly thrillers so the idea of a dark romance mixed with crime and suspense did pique my interest. I thought the novella was good overall, it kept my interest from start to finish and it had a really strong plot and storyline. I was hoping to love the characters a bit more, but my sense of detachment did not take away from the suspense and danger the story held. I would be interested in reading more from both of the authors and would definitely recommend this 4 star read to anyone that likes dark, action packed excitement.

ANGUISH (THE JOURNALS TRILOGY BOOK ONE) AUDIO BOOK by D.M. EARL – Review by Dani Dando

This really wasn’t my kind of thing, I don’t know why but the story just didn’t resonate with me and I wasn’t particularly gripped. The writing wasn’t bad, but I just didn’t feel an affinity with the main character of this book. It’s a shame really because I was really intrigued. I don’t think its anything that Earl did or didn’t do, because I am certain that lots of people will find this enjoyable – it’s emotive, real and raw, what more could you want – I just didn’t for whatever reason.

I will say that I did like the description of the journals and the way they played into the story, the colour coding thing was an interesting touch that made me think it might be cool to do that myself. I don’t think I’d have the commitment though unfortunately. We are introduced to Quinn. She is the voice of the story, she comes across as a prickly character right from the get-go. Quinn is not exactly easy going but it is because something dark in her past always drags her back from the brink of happiness before she ever gets chance to truly settle into it. And when her past comes to smack her full force around the face it’s all Quinn can do not to unravel and round the pain.

Like I said, this has an interesting premise, and I am sure that a lot of people will find this enjoyable and entertaining. It just wasn’t for me.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my first read by Amy McKinley and she definitely did not disappoint. I absolutely love second chance romances. The character build between Kayla and Jaxon is full of passion and lots of tension.
A woman running back home from an awful relationship. Only to run into the one person she truly has always wanted to be with. However will the secrets they hide from each other hinder the relationship that is reforming or will their feeling they have for each other out weight the bad.

This book and its author is a must read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Until one night their relationship shifts a gear were, he would do anything for this woman. Even go against his family!!!

OMG, this was brilliant I can’t not explain how engrossed I got within the story, well I read it in one sitting and it took me a few hours. The utter brilliance of the story was well written and did not seem to pad out the action. The two characters was so perfect for each other as she was sweet with a hint of danger and Seth well HOT is all it can say. The secondary characters were riveting and I had to check out the story of Dale as there is a brilliant excerpt at the back of this book and was gutted its not out you. Oh how you tease. This definitely a worthy read and I very rarely give out five stars but this book had me at the first word till the very last teasing sentence. As this is new authors, I have been busily trying to get my hands on more so. Thank you for bringing me into a new world.

I loved this book. I have read books by both these two authors, this one is my favorite from both. Their writing skills and attention to details not only made the story feel realistic but also made the story engaging and just a great story. This is a well developed story about Braelynn who is an attorney but also a woman who now finds herself on the other side of the law. What will happen when she has to turn to a former client, a bad boy and she is in love with to boot. As she learns there are consequences to everything you do, she finds herself involved with the Mafia and they are not happy about it. What happens next is for you to read. What will fate have in store for her and this bad boy? Will she find her way out of trouble? I really enjoyed these characters. They are unique and give life to the story. They are strong and Cassie is my favorite and what she brings to the story is awesome. I highly recommend this book and these authors.

Sons of Sindicato (Sons of Sindicato ) by Cam Johns & Sonya Jesus. This is a novella about a Crime family and their attorney. It is so very good and even though it is short it makes you feel like you have read a 400 page novel. The characters are amazing. Its the story of Braelynn Shaw who is the attorney for the Sindicato Crime Family. She just recently represented Seth Girodano and they fell in love with one another which is a big no no not only because of her profession but also because of her race. The Crime family does not approve of interracial relationships. Now that Braelynn has murdered someone in self defense it muddies the waters even more. The only way she sees out is to get help from Seth and the Sindicato but if she does that their relationship will come out. If that happens she risks everything in her life falling apart. Once she opens the door for the mafia family to help her she will be involved with them on a level she never wanted. Will Braelynn survive this trial and still be able to have the career she loves afterwards? Will she be able to share her life with the man she loves? Read Sons Of Sindcato to find out!

I had a feeling going into this book that I was going to love it and I was so right. The start of a new series has me wanting more and loving these characters. Although a quick read it had everything I would want in a mafia type story and then some. If I had not seen that this was written by two authors I would have never realized it. The writing was so smooth and never once felt like I was transitioning from one author to the next.

Braelynn could possibly be one of my favorite female leads ever. Her strength and take no crap attitude while still having a vulnerable side was awesome! Oh and..That Slap!! I’ll never forget that scene and I was reading along like Holy Crap woman what were you thinking, but that’s who she is and I love it!

I can not wait to get my hands on what’s to come for all of these characters. I can’t recommend this story enough, I have found that I love books written with the mafia theme, and this one was incredible!!

This dark tale is the start of this Mafioso series that is engrossing and captivating. This compelling read will keep the pages turning and keep you awake because you need to know how it finishes. I found myself invested in the characters and fell in love with them. Sonya and Cam as a writing pair works well.

The colour of her skin doesn’t matter in the court room but her relationship with the son of the mob could see her disbarred. He has seen and done it all but the one thing that could get him disowned is the one thing he loves.

I look forward to the rest of the series.

As I was reading I fell in love with other characters so now I’ll have to read the others to this series as well. I was so hooked on this book I could not stop until I was finished. It only took me a little over a day to devour this amazing story.

Gunner Ramberg had a really tough life when he was little. He and his sister had to go live with his grandmother after a horrible accident with their parents. Gunner loves his sister so much but he almost killed her and now as an adult he carries that guilt everyday. He is all alone until he meets the beautiful Lacey. Gunner felt something as he saved from her insane ex. He wants to find happiness but he doesn’t know if he can. Can Gunner find peace with Lacey or will their pasts destroy them both?

Sons Of Sindicato by Sonya Jesus and Cam Johns is a dark romance story that is utterly gripping to read. This is a short story that is quick to get through however in no way does that detract from the story. I was pulled in completely by these characters from the moment I started reading. They felt so gritty and real. They really made the whole story for me.
I was familiar with one of these authors but not the other and I was surprised by just how well their writing styles seemed to combine. The story is consistent and comprehensive and it probably one of the best pairings I have read in a while. I really

Cam Johns began her career as a published author in 2016 with the release of her first book – Arousing Consequences – to the trilogy, The Arousing Series. However, actually publishing wasn’t part of her plan. After her husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she found writing became a great way to relieve the tension and mounted pressures that come with watching someone she loves suffer from such a harsh diagnosis. It was her husband that pushed her to share her voice, regardless of how erotic that voice would become.

Live. Love. Laugh. A well-known mantra that has become her way of living. Live, by accepting the things you cannot change. Love, the ones closest to you as if there’s no tomorrow. Laugh, each day because sadness will get you nowhere!

Sonya’s a nerd—a cool nerd—who loves science, books, make-up and unicorns. She even has unicorn slippers and unicorn plushes adorn her office. It’s not obsession (or so she says), it’s simply an ode to her imaginative side.

She believes in fairytales and in the beautiful things a mind can conjure. She’s a firm believer of empowering the crazy fictional ideas, putting them down on paper (figurative paper because she’s not a fan of writing in notebooks), and letting them flourish into a story. Sometimes that story is about psychos and murders.

Don’t believe me? Ask her in any of her social media. She’s all about those connections.

5/5 Stars

Capturing Fate by Abbie Roads

This is the first book by Roads that I’ve read and I’ve got to say what a great book. It keeps you interested and keeps you turning the pages. Roads knows what she’s doing. Fantastic read!

Daughter is going in for an interview and let’s just say it’s Sunday. In a prison. Only one thing comes from a Prison visit. Adam. Mureder. The quote I chose for Daughter is: “I won’t kill for you. I’m nothing like you.”

Dolan is an Undercover FBI Agent who doesn’t like people. When he sees that something is up he follows. His following may not be a good thing but it does lead him to meeting Daughter. Can he save her? The quote I chose for Dolan is: “She sent these to my work email. We can trace them. We can find the IP address, then a physical address.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

Gunner (Eidolon Black Ops #6)Gunner by Maddie Wade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This suspense thriller romance revolves around two characters, Gunner and Lacey. Gunner is a man haunted by his past, where he is responsible for the disability of his sister when he was just 6. He betrays his team for the sake of his sister and is trying to make amends. Lacey is just rescued by Gunner and his team from an abusive boyfriend. They meet up together and spend a memorable night. That puts Lacey’s life in danger. How both of them cope up with the challenges and the struggles is the crux of the story.

It is a tear jerker with lot of twists and turns, it was a little confusing for me as I had not read the other books in the series. The book is indeed a page-turner, though I felt it was a little intense for me, considering that I barged into this book before reading the prequels.

Dolan Watts is an FBI agent with a haunted past, he has grown up in foster care feeling that he can only rely on himself and that despite his independence, he is lacking and that he has to go everything alone, this lands him in trouble one day when he is working undercover and breaks his cover to apprehend a criminal who is escaping, but nobody is willing to believe him when he tries to explain what he has just witnessed and the fact that he isn’t a team player or someone who plays by the rules ends up with him having to see a psychologist. What neither Daughter or Dolan expect is that they will end up as therapist and client after what each of them know but cannot tell the other, however, the one thing that they can’t avoid or deny is the instant attraction which they feel, but cannot act on due to professional boundaries, but they agree that in time, maybe they can acknowledge their feelings after some time has passed.

Two years to the day later and Daughter is trying to decide whether to make the phone call she desperately wants to, but she is running scenarios through her head of what might have happened in the intervening years and hesitates, in the end, she decides to call her mother up for some advice, but when she doesn’t get an answer she goes to their house, however when she gets there, her worst nightmares become reality but instead of calling 911, she calls Dolan and he immediately gets the address and high tails it over to see her. As Dolan supports her over the next 24 hours as she has to relive her nightmare over and over again, she asks him to stay with her and one thing leads to another and they finally realise that everything they have both been waiting for is reciprocated by the other and as the whole truth comes out, fate intervenes and just as they are starting something meaningful, it is ripped apart.

Dolan then tries to figure out a way from the mess that has been orchestrated around him and as others are dragged into this mess, it is clear that there is someone manipulating them all like puppets and that there are more lies and secrets to unravel before the web can be broken open, but danger and conspiracies surround them, but can Daughter and Dolan figure out who is behind everything, how they are doing it and what the ultimate goal is, or will everyone they love be targeted? This crime thriller is a whirlwind of lies, deceit, ulterior motives and twists and turns which keep you hooked as the mystery increases with the danger and leaves you rushing to find out the conclusion as well.

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Series Book 2) by Amy McKinley – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #2)Bound by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was yet another page turner by Amy McKinley and book two in her ‘Deadly Isles Special Ops Series’. It can be read as a standalone story but I recommend the previous book, ‘Twisted Secrets’ as it was a great read. In ‘Bound by Secrets’ book reviewer Kayla Kane is on the run from an abusive boyfriend. Not wanting to put her parents at risk she goes to her brother’s best friend and former Navy SEAL Jaxon for a safe place to stay. Jaxon also happens to be the man that she has been attracted to since for ever and who she shared one unforgettable summer night with a decade ago. Jaxon Hale has never found a woman who compares to Kayla and it was only a promise that he made to Kayla’s brother that stopped him from telling her how he felt about her but now that she’s come back into his life he’s determined to have a relationship with her. He just needs to keep her safe first from her stalker of an ex boyfriend, and so asks Kayla to stay with him. However, they soon discover that living together will be more complicated then they thought as their mutual attraction cannot be denied. When tensions, painful memories and secrets are all bought up and the threat to Kayla gets nearer the couple risk loosing each other for good.
This novel has a fast paced storyline and a gripping narrative which had me hooked from the start. I liked the main characters and the chemistry between Kayla and Jaxon really came across and the second chance at love element added to the overall story. The plot had plenty of twists and turns that I was kept guessing until the end. This fairly short novel had a mix of romance, drama, suspense and mystery and I found myself completely immersed in the story.

Gunner: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel by Maddie Wade- Review by Krista Vaughan

This is the first novel I have read of the Eidolon Black ops series and I will DEFINITELY be reading them ALL! The introductions to the other men of Eidolon have me itching to read the rest of the series!

Gunner was a member of this elite group until he was forced to betray them in an act of desperation. The loss of the tight-knit relationship he had with the men leaves him guilty and lost. The guilt that Gunner lives with made my heart ache. He doesn’t seem to realize how amazing he is in his strength and loyalty. When he comes across Lacey again after having met her once before, I was hopeful that she would help him. The passion they have held for each other was something that leapt of off the pages at you!

This is a MUST READ! Don’t miss out on the excitement and passion of Gunner and Lacey!

Gunner: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel by Maddie Wade – Review by Angela Shirley

Gunner (Eidolon Black Ops #6)Gunner by Maddie Wade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When you are completely broken, you have betrayed the family you have ever known to help your true blood family will they ever be able to forgive you.

Gunner is left broken, paying for the decisions he made against the people he deemed his only family but how could he have left his sister after she needed him when she was kidnapped. He is now in so much grief he does not know how he can carry on to live in this world with this guilt punishing him all the time.

Lacey has decided she can’t take the fame and abandons her life in the limelight to a quiet town but she always goes back to the time she had that one true love and he totally hurt her, until the day he walks back into her life and she sees he is just as broken as she is. Can they both heal each other or will a distraction threaten to end this budding relationship or can they both find the courage to fight for what they both want.

This is the first book I have read from this author and oh my I enjoyed every word from start to finish. I loved the broken nature of Gunner, who in essence should be a stone hard fighting machine but to see him so broken and lost was heart-breaking. When the two characters meet there is that initial chemistry but it smoulders underneath as they are trying to figure each other out all this time. My lord then adds in the element of the twist of who is after them and will their new found relationship recover brilliantly. The story is well written and the characters within the book are well developed and just enhance the story. I read this as a stand-alone story which I think is fine, but to truly get the family feel from the group I think I need to start at the beginning and read the series (oh what a hardship LOL). I think I have found my new obsession for the next few weeks.

LOVED THIS!! Another one hit out of the ballpark from one of my favorite all time authors. If you haven’t read anything by Maddie Wade up to now.. Even though I love reading all of hers in order this could absolutely be read as a standalone, but be aware that the characters from other books do play into this story and having the whole of this series is for me personally a must.

This one had my emotions a total mess especially going through some of my own issues, which I loved because it brought out tears I needed to shed. I loved this story, it was very powerful and had quite a few moving parts which were done perfectly. I connected easily to the characters and strengthened connections I already had with others.

Not giving away any of the storyline so I will just say, do yourself a favor and read this series, it is amazing and this author is a definite one click..doesn’t matter what she writes.

Another one sitting read because I couldn’t put it down!
