Wow, absolutely phenomenal read! A Quirk Of Destiny by Catherine Greenall grabs you from the very first page and will not let go! A Great introduction to a series that delivers so much more than it promises and zombies, or Genies are only the tip of the iceberg. With cover ups, twists and turns, corruption and conspiracies, and an ending that will leave you hanging needing to know more. Greenall creates an engaging and strongly written world that bleeds through the pages and sends a message that I won’t soon forget. What really is in our food. With that terrifying thought and how creepy the genies were this book gave me the chills. It really makes you think more about what we all put in our bodies and the consequences it could someday have. This is not your average apocalyptic sci fi thriller, within its pages are so many good ideas that we as a society should think about for our future. I cannot wait to start reading Return To Gallanvaig, her second book in this eye opening series. This book is definitely a must read with some scary realistic thoughts of where we could be headed.

I enjoyed this book Immensely and felt connected to the characters . The world the author created was vivid and bold. This was a science fiction story that was equally about the passion of science and life as well as about living your life as you choose and doing what you love.
Our main character exude confidence, intelligence, and a carefree spirit. Their modern day space voyage takes a turn as they experience some calculated issues. As they encounter the unexpected it becomes not just about them but the world as whole.

Shadow Patterns of Melt by J. R. P. Fogg

Shadow Patterns of Melt is a Sci-Fi Adventure that I had a hard putting down once I got into it. It started out a bit slow and I wasn’t sure what I got myself into but after the first couple chapters things changed. I overall truly enjoyed reading this book its just a bit different than the other Sci-Fi books I’ve read. This is a fairly new author to me and I’m definitely going to check out what other books they have written. This authors style of writing is a bit different and the storyline a bit out of the ordinary but everything flowed so smoothly. The characters are well developed, likable and make it easy to picture everything that is going on. This story is about showing determination and going for what you want while living your life your way not what someone else wants. I’m not going to give anything away but I do highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

This was originally published in serial form on Kindle Vella, Shadow Patterns of Melt – Book One includes Episodes 1–41. Author’s Notes are included in the Back Matter.

It took me a little bit to get into rhythm of the story but then it was smooth sailing. This is a unique space story in the way that it’s not military based, or a space force. The reader follows adventures, drama, and interesting characters. There is grand world building and Fogg put a lot of effort into the characters. This story plot has enough intrigue to keep the pages turning!

I’m not one to usually read sci fi, but I liked this one. I’m glad I read it. The characters are lovable with their own personalities. I enjoyed the writing style, super easy to read. Also enjoyed the action that was in this book. If you love a book that has to do with space, time travel, humor and everything that science fiction brings, read this one. I’ll be checking more of JRP’s books!

Though I usually stay away from books with AI and that line of futuristic plots since they generally felt like drier reads, I decided to try this book. I was pleasantly surprised by the thorough character development and world-building. Though there is a fair amount of jargon in the story, it didn’t hold back on the actual meat of the book and I could read through it without too many interrupting thoughts. I enjoyed the descriptive voice of the characters and the overall plot of this book. I may just have to give this side of Sci-Fi a try once more, now that I’ve found a book that I’ve actually enjoyed.

This sci-fi book is incredibly unique and though it took me a little bit to get into it, I enjoyed it. The flow of the story can be a little bumpy at times, but it was a great read overall. I loved the characters! Nialla and Bishr were truly fascinating, and even though this is a futuristic read it remains relatable. They explore their independence, enjoy life, and jump wormholes…but they end up making a discovery that could mean big changes. This was different from most sci-fi that I have read, and I can’t wait to see what the next book will bring. I highly recommend picking this up for an eccentric time-traveling adventure!

Nialla and Bishr want to enjoy life to the fullest on their own ship. Ideally, they would like to jump wormholes from system to system. However, in doing so they make a startling discovery that risks the future independence of humankind in space.

This book is a bit more of a serious read and I personally found it a bit hard to really get into. The characters are unique and interesting, and well described. The scenes are vivid, and it is well written. This would be a good book for any avid sci-fi reader.

This was a good read. I was a little iffy with it just because of all the science fiction jargon. I love sci-fi, but sometimes the jargon just gets me and this was one of those times. Once I got passed the confusion I really enjoyed the story. I just don’t think I was in the mood for this particular one today though. I really enjoyed the characters, and it was a very unique story. I would love to give this another reread once I’m in the mood for science fiction again though!

I was intrigued by the cover of this book as it reminded me of several science fiction characters. I am glad that I chose to pick this book up to read. It was incredibly good, and I highly recommend it. The author did a wonderful job with the world building and characterizations in this story. It did take me a couple of chapters to get into the story and understand the dialect. Once I did, I could not put this book down. I was perplexed by the time travel through wormhole tunnels in spacetime and questioned if this was a real possibility. This book reminded of the movie “Interstellar” in many ways. I was not disappointed.

Shadow Patterns of Melt by J. R. P. Fogg. This is not my usual genre but I truly enjoyed it. Its a sci fi wild adventure that is a little hard to keep up if you are not used to the sci fi terms. Once you get used to the terms you are in for a fun ride. Its the story of Nalia and Bishr who are fighting the system to do what they want when they want. They have been busy transporting cargo and people across the the planets and they are doing great until they are tasked with taking care of another ship. The story is relevant even today with people not wanting to be told what to do and how to do it. There are even funny parts like the strange bugs they have. If you love sci fi and adventure then you need to read this fun fast paced adventure.

Borrowed Time by Lane Cohen is a creative science fiction story filled with details from science, classic sci-fi, history, anything you can think of time travel related, it’s in this book! I really enjoyed the way that Cohen made such interesting characters whose pasts and concerns really built up the plot. This novel really makes you ask the ultimate time travel question – if you could change the past, what would you change? And would that be the right thing to do? Is it really necessary to try to change the past to fix the future?
The novel is about a physics professor Andy Case and his student Samoset Brown are both interested in time travel from an academic perspective, and for Case it provides an interesting discussion topic for his otherwise unenthusiastic class. Let’s just say that they bit off more than they could chew when they stepped into the realm of time traveling.
This is a great read for time travel fans!

Bishr and Nialla are specialists in space travel, they have been through all the training and now have been in charge of their own ship the Metronome for years transporting cargo and people across the universe for a fee, they make a brilliant team with Bishr being a comms genius and Nialla, a whiz with physics, sometimes she is even known as a savant, she is just that good. They love the freedom which comes from traversing wormholes and jumps between the 400 habitable planets, as well as the 30 which are in the “gration” process and they want to continue to live, laugh and love in their own time.

As they are flying towards their next destination, everything seems to be going to plan until Bishr ill and Nialla has to both look after the other and the ship, this is not easy as there are only the two of them, but somehow they manage. As he recovers, Bishr goes through the correspondence and highlights one message in particular about a Stratum Three planet which is going to be listed as open for gration, he finds the images of the clouds scudding over the surface of the planet relaxing and so saves the skim for later, however, as they are discussing it, the jump they are planning goes wrong.

Nialla and Bishr encounter some issues and between the calcs, the dishes and their superluminal flight, they have to make some decisions which will not just affect them, the shadows which these decisions cast over the rest of the known universe will also come into play, but what will happen and can their love, work, laugh and love mantra keep them safe, or will their unplanned discovery, the history of their parents legacies and the future of mankind in space rip them apart? This is a dystopian sci-fi of universal proportions as split second decisions mean the difference between life, death and everything in between, in this race to calculate, formulate and experiment with unknowns runs its course, in this new and immersive reality.

This is not my typical genre and was hesitant going in but I really enjoyed this collection. It started off a little confusing as there was terminology that was created for this book but as the book progressed, it made sense. Likewise, the beginning was slow but quickly moved to a page turner that I could not put down. Nialla and Bishr create a wonderful team that you cheer on while feeling their heartache, exhaustion, and fear. I am anxiously awaiting the next collection to be completed for Book two to be released.

This story is a unique twist on the time travel plot. I like the mention of the original 1960’s version of the time machine. The historical references were enjoyable and kept the pages turning. The characters and the adventures they go on while trying to alter events important to them, drive the plot effortlessly forward. I wanted to know what happened next and couldn’t put the book down. With the way the story ended, there’s room for a sequel!

This book was a very interesting read about time travel. It has fantasy, sci-fi, drama, historical details, adventure, and the relationship between characters, and so much more all rolled into one that made it hard to put down. The way the author puts these thoughts on to paper and makes a story is just amazing. The details of each character really made for bringing the characters of this story into life. The detail into every scene and scenario made you really feel like you were in the book as while. I really enjoyed reading this book.

An interesting leap into time travel. An advanced physics professor team’s up with his most promising student to make a time machine (using a prop from the 1960s time machine movie!) And successfully make a time machine.
The student wants to right a wrong done to his native American Ancestors where as Professor Andy wants to fix his relationships and his broken heart. They explore the morality of changing time and it’s consequences.
This book brings together Sci-Fi, historical fiction, fantasy and well developed characters into a quick but great time travel adventure.
I also enjoyed all the quotes relating to time between chapters. Was a nice touch!.

What’s not to love about gunslingers and time travel? Like others have mentioned, I hope there is a sequel or maybe just a continuation or side novel. I enjoyed how details of the past were woven artfully into the story. I found myself thinking about if I could time travel – what would I do? Would I change my past? To me, the best books are the ones that you continue thinking about after you are done reading. Well worth the time to read!

Borrowed time is a story about scientists inventing a time machine using an old movie prop so that they can time travel. The reader travels through various time periods with the characters and are introduced to new characters in different times. It is a truly fascinating read as the characters are faced with moral dilemmas that would inevitably occur when the possibility of changing future timelines is involved. Do they do what they want and change events to better their future and ensure their own happiness? Or is it better to leave events as they had occurred?

I found this book fascinating because I have always enjoyed the concept of time travel. I could not help but wonder what I would do if I could travel back in time. As someone fascinated with tracing my family tree, I personally would love to travel back in time and meet some of my ancestors so I could learn more about them. But how would that effect my future? The author did a great job of writing historical details and conveying the emotions and thoughts of each character through their individual stories. An interesting read!

This was a good read! It was a little more science fiction than I was expecting, I was hoping for more fantasy but it was still really good. I think though, that the sci-fi threw me off, because I had trouble staying focused and concentrated on the story, and found myself zoning out a lot. That’s more on me, and I don’t think ibwas in the mood to read sci-fi, because the story was really good! It had a really interesting plot and went pretty fast. I just wasn’t in the mood to read that type of book, so I would love to go back when I am in the mood and see how much better I like it when I’m anticipating it!

Borrowed Time is the first book I have read by this author. I was taken in by the blurb about time travel and historical fiction, and I was not disappointed. I have always enjoyed The Time Machine and the movies based on the book. It was great to think of the time travel machine differently. The story combines the Wild West, science fiction, historical fiction, suspense, and more. I want to keep the plot a secret because I think this is best enjoyed going in with less information. The characters are exciting and helped to draw me into this adventure more. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

This reminds me of the movie so much when the Scientist needed to make a machine to travel back a couple of months ago to save his girlfriend from a terrible accident. This story brought up a lot of sad stories from the Professor and the student wanting to change the past. We all know that once something is done you can not change it.
The author did an amazing job describing the old west.

I wasn’t too sure at first, but now that I have read this book- I love it! If I understood more of the technical aspects, I would have given this book five stars! The storyline, though, is amazing. The dialogue definitely helps propel the reader through the scientific aspects of the story. I’m intrigued enough that I may conduct some research into this subject matter while waiting for the next book in this series.

Borrowed Time is a creative science fiction story packed with details from science, classic sci-fi, history – you name it! And with interesting characters whose pasts and concerns drive the plot. As with many time travel stories it asks the big question – if you could change the past, what would you change? And would that be the right thing to do?
Physics professor Andy Case and his student Samoset Brown are both interested in time travel from an academic perspective, and for Case it provides an engaging discussion topic for his otherwise unenthusiastic class. But as their theoretical concept becomes an increasingly achievable reality their other motivations come to the fore.
This is a great read for time travel fans, and gets five stars from me! There are plenty of familiar tropes as well as thought-provoking scenarios and great characters to get to know.

Borrowed Time by Lane Cohen. This is such a fun read about time travel. It all starts when an advanced physics instructor and one of his students create a time machine. They hook up power source found by Samoset one of the the brightest students to the original Time Machine from the movie Time Machine and it actually works. The professor Andy Case and Samoset have two very different versions of where they want to go and what they want to do. Samoset wants to correct wrongs that were done years ago and Andy just wants to mend relationships. Andy fell in love with a married woman while he was married. He left his wife but she stayed with her husband. He was heartbroken. He lost his wife and his soul mate. Now of course as things go their travels don’t go as either one of them planned. They have several adventures and visit towns and times they never could have before. This is a fun, fast paced time travel story. Where would you go if you could travel in a time machine?

Timeless
A beautifully written book that had me turning the pages late into the night. The author captured each moment within the adventures and didn’t skimp on the details. I felt I was present in every moment. The story follows the group as they invent the ability to time travel and then navigate the possible implications and moral dilemmas of doing so. The author has clearly done their homework with the accuracy of past events. There is definitely room for a sequel- which I will definitely read.

This is the first piece I’ve read by this author, and it will not be the last. I chose to read this book because I love history and the prospect of time travel has always fascinated me. I remember watching 60’s The Time Machine with my parents, so I was intrigued right away. It is evident that the author is talented and knowledgeable of the times and places included in this book. I am also a lover of wonderfully-written characters and how they interact and grow throughout the story, and I found myself fully engrossed and not wanting to put the book down. This story would make a great series because I know everyone who reads it will be left wanting more and more! Can’t wait to see what this author does next!
