House of Illusions by Pippa J. Frost – Review by Erica Fish

House of Illusions: A Dark Fantasy RomanceHouse of Illusions: A Dark Fantasy Romance by Pippa J. Frost
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Pippa Frost is an amazing author that writes about dwarves and humans. Her descriptive writing paints a vivid picture in my mind’s eye. The plotline is what kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. The characters are intriguing as well. I felt as if the characters were alive and were in my world. I felt the need to keep turning the pages to see what is coming next. This story is about Valentina and Nisse. They need to get the dwarves and humans together and bring peace across the land. How will they do that? Will they be able to complete what they started? I highly recommend this story. You will want to see how Valentina and Nisse accomplish what they started.

Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series Book 1) AUDIBLE BOOK TOUR by Nesa Miller – Review by Meg Tyrrell

Alamir, Blood of Kaos Series, Book IAlamir, Blood of Kaos Series, Book I by Nesa Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was my first book by Nesa Miller. The beginning of this book had me slightly confused but it ended up working out. Our lead female character is Etain, a human turned Alamir. Our main male character in my opinion is Dar- Lord Darknight. There are multiple players in this story and they’re all a great supporting cast. This story was well written and a unique take on lovers who have a hard time finding their time to be together. It was a good story and I look forward to the next book.

Rose by Any Other Name (The Sisters, Texas Series, Book 10) by Becki Willis – Review by Kerry Baker

Rose by Any Other Name (The Sisters, Texas #10)Rose by Any Other Name by Becki Willis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rose by Any Other Name by Becki Willis is the tenth book in The Sisters, Texas Mystery series. This book can be read as a stand-alone.
As the first book I have read by this author it definitely gave me a great introduction to her work. The book was intriguing and entertaining in equal measure. It was really easy to understand, despite me having not read any of the previous books in the series. I thought the whole book was well paced and competently constructed.
The characters worked well together – clearly the result of having been built up over many books. I enjoyed reading about them and can easily see how you would build up a sort of relationship with them if you have been reading from the start.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will certainly look to read the rest of the series.

Finders Reapers: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Lisa Helmick

Finders Reapers (New Orleans Nocturnes, #4)Finders Reapers by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an enjoyable quick read. It has nIce twists and turns. The story is different from what I usually read. I liked the subject matter. Dealing with the reaper and a necromancer. Ash, who is the Reaper, has a problem. He has feelings for a girl. Reapers don’t feel feelings. So he is perplexed. I liked his characterization. Fun yet dangerous. He is embarrassed about his other worldly “look” and doesn’t think anyone will ever like it. Jasmine likes Ash but doesn’t think he likes her. Plus she has that whole “talks to the dead” thing that people shy away from.

This story involves ghosts, Demons, angels and among others…our two main characters. This is a lively read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It has a nice flow and memorable characters.

5 Stars

This has become a favorite series and one that I’ll be rereading sometime in the future. It’s twisted just enough to have me completely hooked!

I love this author’s writing style and her character building, I find myself completely invested in Valerie and that happened in book 1. She has always taken on everyone else’s problems and in her own way has always figured out how to fix them, or has had someone fixing them for her without her knowledge. You truly must read these in order to get the whole picture, there’s a lot and stories have continued throughout all 3 books which would make it impossible to not read them all in order.

They are the kind of reads you pick up and don’t put back down till you’ve finished. They are the kind of reads that twist and turn when you are least expecting them and there is absolutely no predicting anything. It seems this might be the last book, although I hope not, but was tied up and completed perfectly! Not going into any details since these books link together and would be too afraid of giving something away. I was totally shocked at some things that happened and felt so bad for Valerie in many places. I can’t imagine!

Read these all…They are amazing! I can not wait for what this author brings next!!

This was a great action packed story. It contains everything I love. Mystery, romance, a dominant protective man and a strong independent woman. It was an amazing read that kept me gripped from page one. The characters are so well written you can’t help but feel the feelings they are experiencing.

Sweet Salvation (The Protectors Series #3) by Toya Richardson

Book has a trigger warning. This is the first book I’ve read by the author. It’s the third book in The Protectors Series. This was a phenomenal read and I will be reading the next. Richardson has a way of bringing these characters to life.

Manuela, a prisoner, doesn’t think she’ll survive the day. Her captors let her loose so they can hunt her down. Little does she know that things are going to change for her. The quote I chose for Manuela is: “I can’t do this, Josh. Drake has ruined me. Why the hell would you want to be with me after you’ve seen what he’s done? All the disgusting things he did to my body.”

Josh is brought to Spain to help look for Manuela. When her mother hands him a picture his life changes. He knows that it’ll take time for everything to work out in the end. The quote I chose for Josh is: “Don’t push yourself to do this, darling. You’ve been through too much already.”

Highly recommended for romance lovers.

House of Illusions by Pippa J. Frost – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

House of Illusions: A Dark Fantasy RomanceHouse of Illusions: A Dark Fantasy Romance by Pippa J. Frost
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

House of Illusions is an enchanting fantasy novel by Pippa J. Frost. It is set in the Swiss Alps, and draws on local folklore to create an immersive magical world.
The narrative passes between the perspectives of many characters, always clearly indicated at the start of the chapter. This lets the reader see the story unfolding across multiple settings, as we begin to piece together the puzzle. There are plenty of twists and turns and, as the title suggests, you can’t always trust what you see.
For me, the best thing about this book was the setting. It reminded me of childhood visits to the alps and the stories I was told about dwarves and dragons. The descriptions of the landscape and details such as plants really enhanced the vivid picture Frost paints.
I found it hard to warm to the characters as we are always aware that not all of them can be trusted. But by the end, once I knew who was really on Valentina’s side, I definitely had some favourites! And Valentina herself is an admirable protagonist, with a strong sense of duty and self-preservation.
For me, this is a five-star book. I would definitely recommend it to fantasy fans! This book will transport you and draw you into a fantastic story. I’m looking forward to reading more by Frost in the future!

Composed (An Ash Park Novel Book 8) by Meghan O’Flynn – Review by Elizabeth Sanchez

Composed: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 8)Composed: An Ash Park Novel by Meghan O’Flynn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Composed: An Ash Park Novel is the 8th book in Meghan O’Flynn’s Ash Park series. It can be enjoyed as a stand alone book. I have read others, but not the whole series. This book is a wonderfully written crime mystery suspense book. It follows Detective Petrosky as he recently returned to work after an officer involved shooting. He is hunting a serial killer this time, and struggles with flashbacks from his last case. I love reading about the case and seeing it unfold. As they try to profile their killer, and track down the location the victims are being kept. The book gets pretty graphic at times, so reader discretion advised. I love this series and highly recommend. Think of it as a book of Law and Order SVU.

Composed: An Ash Park Novel by Meghan O’Flynn is the eighth book in the An Ash Park novel series. Let me tell you that I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series because it helps to have all the background and info concerning Detective Edward Petrosky. This character is great because he is not perfect but flawed and but still an amazing detective. This series is dark, gritty, and full of suspense and this book doesn’t let the reader down. I will not reveal the plot but just know it was hard to tear myself away while reading. This explores the dark minds of people who are working to help us and those out to hurt us. I enjoy the level of description and the development of the characters. The stories keep getting better and better. I look forward to reading more from Meghan O’Flynn in the future.

I loved how Frost started this story. It was a beginning that immediately pulled me in and caused me to understand more about our heroine and her world. This fantasy felt tangible and epic. I really appreciated the world building and the class distinction that was outlined. I thought the characters were well developed and a great amount of thought was used to develop this world and all of its inhabitants. Frost has put together a beautiful world in my estimation and one that I hope I am able to visit again. This is a book I am adding to my “read again” list – I cannot wait to enjoy these characters again!

Accountability (Scope of Practice #3)Accountability by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Valerie is back! Only this time, instead of helping others, she needs to help herself. Val’s secrets have been piling up and they are about to pull her under. She needs to find justice against those that have wronged her in the past…but does she have the strength to do it? She doesn’t know who to trust anymore and she is running out of time.
This book follows some storylines that have been around since the first book…so I highly recommend going back and reading the first two books before diving into this one. I love Val’s strength and need for justice. She is always looking out for those around her, so it’s about time she really started looking out for herself. I have enjoyed this series from the beginning and look forward to reading whatever Jessica Aiken-Hall comes out with next!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I happened to love KG Fletcher as an author from the way she writes love stories, draws me in and keeps my attention with the characters she writes about. This book is no exception: Love is tested between these two but as usual their own inner emotions keep them apart but there was so much more keeping them together. This book shows you more than anything that love is risky, it can be tight knit, tested but love always pulls through.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Autumn Leaf by Brittany Tarkington is a stand-alone coming of age story.

Autumn hasn’t had it easy. Making the decision to go from Texas to Washington state for college might have been the easiest thing Autumn has faced. Autumn plans to keep her head down, focus on school and do what she needs to do. That is until she meets Liam. Autumn keeps him at a distance at first but that just doesn’t work for Liam. He needs to spend more time with her and getting Autumn to tutor him might just be the way to do it. As Autumn spends more time with Liam, she realizes they have a lot in common. Appearances can be deceiving. Just because he seems to have it all together on the outside doesn’t make it a reality. Autumn and Liam keep each other’s secrets and Autumn realizes she might have something worth fighting for. Will she remember that just when Liam needs her to?

I absolutely loved this book! I read it in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down! The characters were great! Autumn definitely grew as a person throughout the story. I definitely recommend this book!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

There is so much I can say about this story.
It is real. It has so much in it and yet not enough, I wanted more.
This was written in a way that made it easy to picture like a movie in my mind, very vivid, like I was standing in the Mountains in Washington. This doesn’t even include the emotion that Brittany tore out of me, the heartache, the real and raw life people live that we overlook daily, the good, bad, and ugly. It has the best of the drama, friendship, mean girls, and hot frat guys!

I really enjoyed all that this book was and I will definitely be back to read more by this author.

Let me start by saying, I enjoyed that this book took me back in time to the start of Vietnam and back to present day but I thoroughly enjoyed how it all came to tie together in a smooth way. I love Logan’s inquisitive nature and how she finds herself in these situations to help others. The author makes Logan come off just as human as the women that we are in real life which made me continue reading this second book of this series. I also love a good mystery and suspenseful story as this book was to draw me in as it was written well but the adventure keeps me at a smooth pace as well.

AlamirAlamir by Nesa Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a fantasy story with a lot of action and adventure. Nesa Miller is becoming one of my favorite authors. Her writing style flows gently throughout her story. There were enough action and adventure to carry through to the end of the story. This is the first book in this series and I cannot wait to see what is coming up in the next book. I felt as if was on a roller coaster ride because of the twists and turns, ups and downs, and action to keep me turning pages until the last page. The characters are engaging and fully developed. There is so much depth to the characters that keep the story going. This story is about Etain. Throughout her life, she was told fairy tails about Alamir. Like some fairy tales in our world, it was told to her to teach lessons. She was learning about her destiny in the fairy tales. Will these stories help her with her current situation? This story is a must-read especially if you love fantasy stories as much as I do.

Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1 by Lisa Wood – Review by Lisa Helmick

ShatteredShattered by Lisa Wood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this story for the most part. The actual story and the character were very good. I didn’t care for the sexy times. It just seemed like the wording didn’t fit in with the characters. I could feel the connection between the two characters so it wasn’t that. Anyway the story easily kept my interest. I wish there was more office/lawyer times instead of all of it after work. Each of the characters is likable in their own right but when they come together it’s a delight.

I really liked Gabe. He seemed so perplexed with Olivia and his feelings. He tries so hard for her. It’s great. His nervousness and dates are lovely. On secondary characters I absolutely love his family! The advice and the support are phenomenal!

Overall it’s a good read. It’s filled with some fun and some not so fun times. Delightful characters that are as sweet as they are sinful. I look forward to more from this author.

The Autumn Leaf by Brittany Tarkington – Review by Jennifer Gordon

The Autumn LeafThe Autumn Leaf by Brittany Tarkington
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Brittany Tarkington is a new author to me and I am really pleased to have discovered her. I thoroughly enjoyed this Young Adult story which was a college romance with a more angsty feel to it. I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster whilst reading this novel and the main character, Autumn Miller had me intrigued from the start and I found unraveling her past as the story evolved had me fully immersed in her story. Autumn arrives on campus with a stack of cash and the clothes she’s wearing, her goal is to blend in and graduate. However, when she meets Liam Shafer she can’t help but get closer to him as their mutual attraction and their connection is instant. The closer they get the deeper she falls for him which makes running away when a missing person’s poster is found and she is confronted with her past more difficult than usual for Autumn. Autumn is used to dealing with her problems by running away and leaving everything and everyone behind but this time she realises she can not leave Liam behind so easily.
This is a wonderfully written book with great characters in Autumn and Liam, the author really made me get to know and like the couple and so I felt invested in their outcome. I was hooked from page one of this novel and I found the plot fascinating and the storyline flowed well and moved along at a good pace. I enjoyed the extended epilogues at the end which gave a glimpse into Autumn and Liams life in the future. I found ‘Autumn Leaf’ to be an emotional college romance with added depth which makes this a five star read for me.

Fatal Legislation: A Novel: Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 2 by Ellen Butler – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Fatal Legislation (Karina Cardinal Mystery #2)Fatal Legislation by Ellen Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I found this novel by Ellen Butler to be a gripping political mystery thriller and it is Karina Cardinal’s second adventure. Although book two in a series it can be read as a standalone story. Having read book one and already been introduced to Karina, I was looking forward to this second instalment and was not disappointed. The plot is complex and fast paced and had me hooked from page one. When Senator Harper literally drops dead at Karina’s feet she becomes a ‘person of interest’, due to the fact that the Capitol Hill lobbyist was having a heated discussion with him after he had torpedoed her latest health care legislation initiative. When it’s discovered that the Senator was actually assassinated by a hacker disabling his pacemaker, FBI cybercrime’s expert and Karina’s boyfriend Mike Finnegan is reassigned to work a new case. Fearing that she will become a suspect Karina begins her own investigation into who would want the Senator dead. Karina ends up in the dangerous world of money and politics, and soon finds herself in the real killers sights.
The main character, Karina Cardinal, really brings the story to life as she is a very relatable and likeable person and I felt fully immersed in the story alongside her. The storyline has enough twists and turns in it so that it kept me guessing until the last page. I couldn’t put this book down and I hope there will be further books in this series.

Composed: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 8)Composed: An Ash Park Novel by Meghan O’Flynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Composed by Meghan O’Flynn is the eighth book in the Ash Park series. This is quite a dark and thrilling series that really knows how to keep you coming back for more. I usually struggle a bit with a series when it starts getting into this number of books. However I have to say that this is my favourite book of the series so far. It really felt like you were getting to see even more into the main character than previously which is impressive for so far down the line.
I loved the story line to this book as well. It felt gritty and exciting. I was hooked almost instantly. It was full of suspense and intrigue, and that was before the chief of police was abducted. The really felt like the pages were just turning themselves and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen.
This is a brilliant book and an amazing series. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
