Daring Ceri is Book #6 in the True Platinum series by Morgana Bevan. There are eight books in this series, each one focuses on a different duo, so each one could be read as a standalone- but having said that, there are recurring characters and other relevant information throughout the series that you will want to know about- so I highly recommend reading the entire series from the beginning- as each book will add flavour to, and enhance, your overall reading experience.
It is a sublime enemies-to-lovers, second chance, rockstar romance with a bit of a forced proximity element, loads of chemistry, sizzle, angst, drama, emotion, angst, accidental marriage, and taking a chance on love again.
What would you do if you were planning your dream wedding only to discover that you were already married…….. to someone else??? The someone else who broke your heart and left you reeling. Awkward much. Well, that’s exactly the predicament that Ceri finds herself in, and now needs a divorce asap so her impending wedding can go ahead. She never realised that a drunken night’s antics eight years earlier had resulted in her being married- and that news has the potential to destroy her ‘new’ life. Alex sees this as an opportunity to win her back and prove he isn’t the ‘bad-boy’ rocker he used to be. He’s going to have to use all his ‘talents’ in his quest if he has any hope of convincing her to give him a second chance. Love is worth fighting for- right?

Fantastic cozy mystery that was a quick and easy read and very enjoyable. Mystery, suspense and a few twists and turns I did not see coming…and I love that about this story.

Eve Sawyer is back and on holiday break from college looking forward to spending time with her mom and her friends. When Eve’s friend, Cassidy, is house sitting for her aunt..she invites Eve and their friend Randall to join in for a mini away from home holiday vacation. Nothing can spoil this fun time away, except when a retired cop and his retired cadaver dog stumble upon a body hanging from a tree in the back yard of Cassidy aunt’s house that she is house sitting for. So many fingers pointing in different directions on whom may be responsible for the death of a man….Eve Sawyer vows to find out whom killed this individual…..

Will Eve find out and solve this case or will the person who may have been involved never be caught….definitely read and find out.

While non-fiction isn’t my go-to genre, this book was absolutely astounding! I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it, so keeping an open mind helped. I feel like I gained a substantial amount of knowledge from the way this author presented information. One of the reasons I don’t read non-fiction as much is because it can feel like information overload. This author did amazing in presenting a great amount of knowledge, but tying other things in so that it isn’t dry. I really enjoyed learning about the history and science behind nuclear weapons. It definitely gives you plenty to think about! I would recommend this book to everyone, even if it doesn’t seem like your cup of tea!

As soon as I saw rockstar romance I knew I needed to pick this up. There wasn’t even a second thought about this. As always check the trigger warnings, your mental health is important!

We are met with Alexis and Jordan, our leading main characters, who once were romantic with each other but no longer. Why is that you ask? You will have to read to find out. I love a good second chance story. This was just that. You could feel with the characters and the emotions on the page. I would absolutely read from this author again. She did a wonderful job with story building and character building. And did I mention it was a standalone!?

The development of nuclear warfare has been ongoing for over a century now and it doesn’t show any sign of stopping, so when that reality hits, it is best to at least have a heads up on what exactly it entails. This is where this book comes in, it has a breakdown of parts ranging from the scientific history, the weapons themselves, as well as the differences between the approaches of different countries as this development occured, but be warned, it is not for the faint of heart or easily perturbed due to the subject matter within.

In part one, is the outline of the who, what, where and how of the steps taken to identify and understand nuclear weapons and exactly what happens inside them.

Part two speaks about the reactions of the different countries and their races to become the top of the nuclear weapons food chain, including the threat level each country has to the others.

Part three talks about the weapons in more detail, how they work and who has control over them, as well as when and how they are deployed.

Part four discusses the affects of the aftermath of these weapons and what the resulting radiation can do to the human body and the natural world.

Finally, part five discussed the future of this technology and what this means for the future generations as well as discussing some of the moral and ethical implications of what this might mean.

This is a work of non-fiction which is easy to understand, interesting to anyone, no matter what their level of prior knowledge is, as well as being straight forward, to the point and a great introduction to the subject with plenty of further reading cited at the end.

Without being too heavy on the scientific details, this book was a good read. The author provided enough details for me to feel good about my so-called intelligence. At the same time, I was not overwhelmed by the scientific details. This book is very timely, what with the popular movie based on the same subject area having hit the theaters recently. I feel confident that, having read this piece, I can contribute to intelligent discourse around me.

After enjoying the first book in the series so much I was looking forward to reading this one. It is a great follow up and was lovely to be reintroduced to the characters. This boon is a YA mystery story and although it is firmly aimed at a younger audience it is still another one I thoroughly enjoyed.
The story is well thought out and original. It has a mix of everything thrown in – mystery, Adventure, humour, Suspense. It easily draws you in keeps you excited for else might be to come. This is a great book.

This is the 4th book in the Eve Sawyer series. Each one can be read as a standalone, however if you like cosy Mysteries then this series is definately for you. The author’s writing is really good and the twist and turns in the story will keep you guessing and reading until the end to find out what actually happens.

In this story we are back with Eve as her and her friends plan on housesitting during their winter break. It was supposed to be a relaxing break away. However things take a sudden change when a man is found dead in the back garden of the house they are watching.
At first glance it seems just a sad case of suicide but after speaking to the deceased mother Eve isn’t convinced. Was this a suicide or was it murder?
Now Eve and her friends try to solve this case to determine once and for all what has happened and who if anyone is responsible.

This is a fast paced read with twists and turns and secrets to be revealed. As Eve tries to solve this case will she be putting herself in danger by looking in places she shouldn’t be looking?

Mr. Barsins’ Toy Emporium by Lois Wickstrom. I absolutely love this author and always read her books! My nephews love them too! This one is really fun being about imaginary friends being real! There are 4 children Jack, Lily, Audrey and Nick are all going to the Toy Emporium to find their imaginary friends. There are Sylphs, mermaids, gnomes and dragons as imaginary friends and the kids all pick their favorites. The owner of the toy store doesn’t ask for money but he does ask for payment in a different form. The story helps kids and parents with grief, neglect and family dysfunction. Reading this as a family would be a great therapy for a lot of people. I love Mrs. Wickstrom’s books because not only are they great for kids but they are really good for a lot of adults too! These books make great gifts as well!!

The Hand of God: From Oppenheimer to Hypersonics by Paul McCarthy. This is not my typical read but it is a very interesting read. It is a Crash Course on Nuclear Weapons all they way. It explains in great detail what exactly a nuclear weapon is and how they are used. It is written to where even I could understand all of it. Knowing exactly what and how these Nuclear Weapons could be used are equal parts terrifying and cool. The examples they used such as dropping a bomb on New York and the damage it could do was absolutely horrifying. When I was a kid I was terrified of Nuclear Weapons and now we don’t think twice, in reality we should really be terrified now. The power of these weapons is incredible and very much a possibility. I feel so much more knowledgeable on the powers of Nuclear Weapons due to this book. Great job Paul McCarthy!

As usual with a historical fiction novel in this series I was hooked from start to finish. Once again I was transported back in time through the wonderfully detailed descriptive narrative which sets the scene, and the added historical elements which bring the era vividly to life. The storyline flows well and the plot kept me happily turning the pages, as we are introduced to the eldest daughter of the Hittite Emperor, Ehli-nikkalu. She is married to a vassal of her fathers but as she’s unable to produce an heir she is not respected at court. Then at a time when the loyalty to the Emperor is questioned, Ehli-nikkalu’s secretary is murdered whilst delivering a message to him which would indict their loyalty. Ehli-nikkalu then adopts her secretary’s children as she feels guilty at their fathers death.

When her young cousin becomes a pretender to the throne and begins to mobilise roving armies her loyalties become questioned further. She then discovers a terrible secret that could ruin the present regime if the pretender knew about it, and so along with a kindly scribe, her young ward, and a former soldier Ehli-nikkalu goes on a journey to prove herself to her father and save the kingdom. She may even learn about love along the way in this well written and obviously well researched story. Each of the characters have their own backstories and add to the overall story, my only concern is that there are a lot of them to remember. I found the brief authors notes at the end of each chapter a little off putting as it took me out of the story, I would have preferred a longer section at the end. Overall this was a gripping story full of historical details and intriguing characters and I definitely recommend reading it.

Daring Ceri is an enemies to lovers book. Ceri and Alex have been loving and hating each other for over a decade. At the beginning, Ceri is engaged to be married to a man named Richard. However, while trying to get her marriage license, she finds out she is already married to her ex- Alex (a famous rock star). She didn’t realize they really got married one drunk night in Fiji. Now, she has to figure out how to get divorced, but that would involve seeing Alex. Alex happens to be in her town on tour, but she is nervous because he always sucks her into him and then breaks her heart. After finally getting to Alex, he refuses to sign the divorce papers. He makes her a deal – on the road working with him, as a dancer, for three months and if she still feels the same about not wanting him, he will sign. Will she be able to resist him this time? Will he understand why she keeps rejecting his “love”? Or can the two of them find a way to make it work since the chemistry seems to be too much?
I thought the book was good. It took a while for me to like the characters. Ceri is determined not to be hurt again and so her character, at the beginning, is basic. Settling for all things that she never planned for herself. It took her a little time and honesty to really tell Alex exactly the problem she is having with him. Alex, he is just clueless to what Ceri really wants from him. He is arrogant, self-centered, and a man that is not appealing for many women on a long-term basis. However, as the book progresses, you do see the progress in both characters. Overall, I enjoyed their turbulent story.

I did not read book one of this series, although I feel they can be read separately since we are told what does happen in book one and book two reads as a great stand alone, I feel I should go back and read the first to get a better chemistry between Cassy and Boyce. I do like them together and I did like the romance, but I felt like something was missing and I that’s on me for not reading the first one. Saying that I really enjoyed the story, you’re hooked right from the beginning. It’s a nice mystery with suspense and I like the added family drama from both characters. I wasn’t suspecting Boyce’s mother to try to come around Cassy, I do wish there was a little more drama with the FBI but there are other murders to be solved. I really liked Cassy’s character; I’ve seen other reviewers say she has had great character growth since the first book. I feel she’s kind of badass, she went through so much in book one, leaving her with PTSD, it’s nice that we see how she is still scared of going into the woods, but she’s working through it and still trying to do her job and she’s doing a great job at it as well.

This isn’t my typical type of book I usually read. I’m so glad I chose this book. This book had me thinking and learning at the same time. The book was about nuclear weapons. When I first picked up the book, I knew absolutely nothing about nuclear weapons. I now learned some things about it. The author did an amazing job describing things in this book.

Chasing Cheer is the first book in the Emerald Hollow Series and a wonderfully written Contemporary Romance that I absolutely loved reading. This was just what I needed to pull me out of the funk I’ve been in lately. Everything about this book screams happiness, love, magical love and so much more This author done a wonderful job re-creating a Christmas classic with a twist. This is a newer author to me but I’m a fan already. The characters are fun, relatable, fully developed and creative. They make the story come to life and I can picture the vivid colors and even picture it in my mind. Emerald Hollow sounds like my kind of town and I could picture myself living there. Holly and Ash. Holly travels a lot collecting cheer to take back to the North Pole. But a stop in Emerald Hollow is about to change everything she thought she knew. Ash is trying everything he can to save his small town. But things are about to change for him as well. I highly recommend reading this sweet Christmas story to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

I bet no medical examiner ever expects remains found under a building would bring a dormant serial killer out of hiding. That’s exactly what happens though after a massive explosion unearths some old bones. Trudy Beasley is the Assistant Chief Medical Examiner in Philadelphia, and she intends to figure out this mystery. Her counterpart, Forensic anthropologist Benjamin Roberts, disagrees that there is a legal reason to try to figure out the truth. Being on the same side they of course work together closely during the investigation and their professional relationship turns into a romantic one. The secrets they have unearthed brings danger to their lives and could potentially spell the end of their newfound romance. Someone intended to have their secrets remain hidden with those bones even long after they were gone. Now though, they must stop the investigation at all costs. Will Benjamin and Trudy be able to stop the killer before they find another victim, or worse become a victim themselves? I am absolutely enjoying this author and her writing style. The characters all go so well together as well. Sure, they are in close proximity with their professions, but the relationships have all grown organically. The twists and turns will keep you turning the pages and anticipating what is going to happen next. This is a great series to add to anyone’s collection.

She withdrew from everything both personally and professionally. In doing so she unfortunately let her guard down and a man that was obsessed with her was able to get too close. Detective Doyle Murphy is taking a break from working cases as he analyzes whether or not he wants to continue on in this line of work. He becomes Hannah’s bodyguard and is doing his best to keep her safe from her crazy stalker. Due to their forced proximity, Hannah and Doyle have the opportunity to strike up a relationship that starts out innocently enough, but soon turns into something more. This of course causes her stalker to up his game and become even more obsessed with getting her. Will Doyle be able to keep her safe from harm? Will their relationship be able to flourish, or will the crazed stalker get what he believes is rightfully his? This was a great book with a lot of twists and turns. It keeps you turning the pages and anxious to see what is going to happen next. I really enjoyed the characters and growth of their relationship. After reading this book I am looking forward to reading the others in this series.

The author sucks you in again with an amazing story of survival and surpassing. Vixen, through the Devil’s Handmaidens, has not only survived the ordeal that was forced upon her, she has managed to build a life beyond. She still has ghosts and baggage, but who doesn’t?

This author does it again. There is nothing like the cast of characters that she has put together in this series. From Tink to Shadow to Vixen to Avalanche, everyone is special and will melt your heart. Loving this new gentler Shadow.

Beautiful Dangerous is the fourth book in the Philly Heat series by Becky Flade. It is another tense and intriguing romantic suspense- with an unhinged stalker on the loose, danger, mystery, drama, intense developments, emotion, chemistry, sizzle, action, forced proximity, a quest for redemption, and more.
As I have said before, this author certainly knows how to tell a gripping story and has once again crafted a tight, well-woven, and intriguing plot. I have devoured this series, excitedly pouncing on each new instalment as they release, and have loved them all- but have to say that I think this is my most favourite of the series, so far.
The characters have been skilfully crafted into fully realised individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. They are not only relatable, but entirely realistic and believable- which made this story all the more convincing and engrossing.
Philly Heat is a series of standalone books, where each instalment focuses on a different ‘couple’- but there are some interconnected characters/details which tie the whole series together. I recommend reading the previous books, too- because they are fantastic reads in their own rights.
This is Hannah and Doyle’s turn, and I was pulled into their story right from the beginning, becoming fully invested in them and the outcome of their story. They are both damaged and bruised souls in their own way, and have been through so much already- but fate isn’t finished with them quite yet as they are thrust together while danger circles- sparks ignite and their simmering chemistry starts to boil over. But with an unhinged stalker in the mix, things take a complicated turn when Hannah and Doyle’s connection drives the stalker to dangerous new heights. What happens makes for a gripping read..

The Moon that Fell from Heaven is the fifth book in the Empire at Twilight series by N.L Holmes. As with everything that Ms. Holmes does, this is very detailed and descriptive- full of rich historical details that she infuses into all her stories. The Moon That Fell from Heaven is an interesting historical fiction story blended with historical facts, some mystery, angst, emotion, drama, politics, agendas, scheming, corruption, power plays, family dynamics, religion, loyalty, duty, responsibility, intrigue, and conflict.
I have read most of Ms. Holmes’ books now and am always quite taken with her passion for history which is very evident in all her writing. This passion definitely adds to the enjoyment of her story/s.
Although I did enjoy the story for the most part- it isn’t my favourite of this series. It was a little slow to get going, which then made it hard for me to find my groove and ‘get into’ it- but the further into the story the better it got, the pace picked up more, and the story got more interesting.
There are a lot of characters to keep track of, and a lot of information, which, for me at times, felt like a bit of an info dump. I also had trouble connecting with Enli-nikkalu, even though I did ‘feel’ for her at times, she just frustrated me so much at the beginning that I didn’t become invested in her or her story like I was hoping to. But maybe that’s just a ‘me’ thing- so you probably should read the story for yourself and make up your own mind. Because if you love ancient history mixed with fiction, original stories with interesting settings and characters- as well as a little mystery and intrigue, then you will probably enjoy this book.

Another interesting read by this author taking place in non other, Millersville. This is the first book by this author that didn’t feel like it came completely out of left field. Violet recently opened her own security firm and upon meeting her first client, finds herself deep in a security issue. This book really touched on how much individuals in high places are so easy to dismiss those not in their circle. Violet really had to hold her own, even after finding out that her mom is one of the masterminds of these protests. This is a standalone and no other book needs to be read to know what is going on, however, the glimpses into previous books were a nice nod to the others that take place I’m Millersville.

When We Fell Again: An angsty, second chance rockstar romance

Wow. This book grabbed me as soon as I started reading and did let me off the ride of emotions until I read the last word.

Jordan and Alexis have a lot of history together. They were a couple in college and once that ended they didn’t see each other for for five years. Until they were reunited unexpectedly, he the singer of Idol Rev, she the tour manager.

Jordan’s story is quite sad but also empowering. He has deal some pretty difficult things and fought to overcome them even with the memories flashing up at times.

Lex is successful and the one the company she works for depends on. Her life is different while having some parallels to Jordan.

I felt everything while reading. I throughly enjoyed this book and hope to see more by Ms. Archer and about the Idol Rev guys.

When We Fell Again is a standalone, second chance at romance novel. Jordan plays in a rock band, has some issues with jealousy in the female department, and has some nasty habits he must kick. Alexis, a tour manager, has little will to deal with the shenanigans causing the two of them to end their relationship. Fast forward a few years and the two have been reunited. When sparks begin to fly and a second chance at romance is presented, will Jordan prove to Alexis that he has changed his ways?

When We Fell Again was simple but full of angst and steamy moments. I am a sucker for a good love song and it’s even better if it’s sung by a hunk with a guitar. Jordan was totally that hunk and he stole my heart from the very beginning. His bad habits had me on edge the entire time fearing the worst for his character. All of the characters were lovable, relatable, and down to earth. I felt most of the excitement in this novel happened in the last few chapters and then the novel ended. I wish there would have been more “bulk” throughout. Despite my wish for more bulk, there truly was so much more to this novel than just a steamy love story. This was my first time reading a novel written by Julie Archer and she touched on tough topics with such ease. I would not hesitate to read another novel written by this author and I highly recommend this book to anyone who appreciates a good love story with great characters and a happy ever after!

Sometimes you need to grow up in order for a relationship to thrive. At least, that’s the case when it comes to Jordan and Lex. These exes find themselves inhabiting the same space when Lexi is asked to go on tour with the band that Jordan is the lead singer for. Their relationship in the past did not end well, but they are determined to be mature adults about having to work together. Quite quickly, the old feelings start to surface and their chemistry is hard to ignore. However, Jordan’s past comes back to haunt him and Lex has to decide whether to protect her heart and walk away, or hold on tight and hope the past is not going to repeat itself.

I really enjoyed Jordan and Lex’s characters. Jordan has found himself in some rough situations (sometimes due to his own making), and I feel like he really matured during this book. Their chemistry can be felt coming off of the pages. There were times that I wanted to knock some sense into both of them…but the story was a fun read that I enjoyed from beginning to end. Please note, there are some topics that are heavy…but they don’t take away from the story itself. Overall, a good story!
