Lauren is struggling to survive at the moment, but when the biggest murder case her little town as ever seen she is in the thick of it with her being a court stenographer, but as the trial is going on Lauren is starting to have doubts if the person they have actually committed the murder.

As Lauren starts looking into the case it becomes more apparent that the wrong person is being charged but can she uncover the true murderer or will she be put in more danger as she goes through.

I have not read the first book but found that I had not missed any of the story, possible it would help with a bit more background between Lauren and her ex-husband but it did not distract from the story. I loved the mystery and the twists and turns that the author created within the story which had you guessing and following along with Lauren picking up the clues along the way.

The story was well written and developed and the characters offer a depth to the book which I found interesting and engaging. I can not wait to read the next book in this series and will also like to read the first book.

Merissa Racine has done it again. This is the second book in her Crawford Mystery series and I’d have to say that this may be better than the first. I would recommend reading these books in sequence so you have a better character build. Lauren is force not to be reckoned with. She is a little ball of fire! I think I am so drawn to this character because I had always wanted to be a court reporter so by reading about her life, I am able to see what might have been (even though I don’t think so much drama would follow in real life, LOL) like to have actually been a court reporter. If you a fan of cozy mysteries and like to be kept on the edge of you seat and not worried about sleep, then I would say run run run to your nearest book seller and check this out!

The second book in Racine’s series was as good as the first. Racine brought the primary characters back and further developed new characters through the story. A peek into the justice system and good people was a nice touch, even if I was unsure of how it would end. Racine was able to create a story and characters that made me questions my perspective of good and bad.

A great mystery with loads of suspense. Lauren is reporting on the biggest murder trial of her career.  Lauren starts to believe that the person on trial is not the real culprit. She decides that she must get to the bottom of the murder. And then when a second murder occurs Lauren realizes she was right but will it be too late.

Second installment of the series, great spin on murder mystery novel.

Loved this book. As someone who knows a bit of the legal process I enjoyed seeing it play out on the page and how Lauren’s character contributed to finding out the truth. I could see how that legal process could be seen as slower reading to the casual reader though. I do think there were confidentiality issues that arose but it certainly made for some good drama in the story.

I enjoyed getting to know more about Lauren’s family history and back story. We get to meet her dad and we get to see more of Aunt Kate and Uncle Jake. We don’t get to see as much of Sam in this installment but his appearances are never dull. I enjoyed Eli, the defense attorney, and the side conversations Lauren and he share.

This book follows in the firsts footsteps with me not having guessed the end result but thoroughly enjoying the conclusion.

Hope there’s a book 3 in the works; I look forward to reading it if so.

Let me just say Yowzah!! I never go into a second book really expecting it to out preform book one but ‘Shadow of Doubt’ by Merissa Racine really out preformed my expectations. I absolutely loved the way she took her characters over the top! You really get to see who her characters are. The story development is well planned and progresses at the right moments. I really enjoyed the story as it had a little of everything.

Another hit! Shadows of Doubt: A Crawford Mystery by Merissa Racine is an excellent second installment! We pickup following small town court reporter Lauren, who is closely tied to another murder in town. When someone is arrested and tried, she just isn’t so sure they have the right man. Can she help unravel the mystery?

I really enjoyed this story and again found Racine’s writing style to flow so well, keeping me engaged and turning the page. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up (and any others she writes)!

I just… wow I normally dislike mysteries! I think they are either too cliche or too boring. But not the Crawford Mystery series!!!! Ahhhh!!! Merissa Racine is amazing!! I read the first book first (like a normal person), but I think this could be a good standalone.

So in the first book, we meet everyone and get great story, in the book, ITS WONDERFUL STORY!!!! I could not picture anything that was going to happen and I just loved this books so much. (Upcoming little spolier) following Lauren’s ups and downs after her first run in with a murder was a good look into how skeptical and curious she is. And when Sam and her FINALLY get everything in the open I was so happy!!!

Shadows of Doubt, the second book in the series A Crawford Mystery by Melissa Racine is just as good as her first book. Although each book could be read as a standalone, it sure helps to know what the main character Lauren went through in the first book. In this second book we find Lauren is now a freelance stenographer. Due to her freelance work being not steady work, Lauren agrees to be the court reporter for her ex-husband… This second book has great character like the first book, plot twists, and Lauren questioning whether she should look for the killer herself. I have really enjoyed this series. I’m sure I’ll be checking for new books by Ms. Racine!

Shadow of Doubt was just as good as the first book in the series. I look forward to more books by Merissa Racine, as I loved both books in the Crawford Mystery series. I really would love to know if the author wrote this from experience (not all the details, but assisting solve a big case). This book could be read as a stand alone, but you would be missing a lot of the background information. Also the first book is really great, so why skip it? The main character Lauren is brilliant, but is currently freelancing and desperate for money. So desperate, she takes a job working along side her ex husband daily. As if that weren’t enough stress, Lauren once again finds herself in the center of a major crime in her little town. On top of that, she has taken it upon herself to play detective and try to prove the innocence of a man on trial for murder. This book is action packed, and once again, has some twists and turns along the way that caught me off guard. I love that the real murderer was not at all who we suspect it will be. Well done Racine!

Merissa Racine has done it again! Shadows of Doubt is the second novel in the Crawford Mystery series, and it was a can’t-put-it-down read!
I would highly recommend reading the first book in the series to get a feel for the main character, Lauren, and what she does as a court stenographer.
In this second book, Lauren has grown from her experiences in the first novel and is ready to figure out yet another mystery that has happened in the town of Crawford.
If you enjoy thriller novels or mystery novels (or both like me) then you will love this series!
Merissa has taken a job not many know about and has written it into a novel series that makes you want to keep reading more, not only for the mystery and who-dun-it storyline but also to learn about an important behind-the-scenes job in the court system.
I cannot wait until the next book in the series comes out as it will be high on my priority list to read! I already know it will be even better than this one!

Shadows of Doubt (A Crawford Mystery) by Merissa Racine was a great second installment in the Crawford Mystery series. Once again we follow Lauren, who is now working as a freelance court reporter, as she is thrust into the Archer family drama. Shadows of a Doubt once again pulls you into trying to solve the who-done-it mystery. Merissa successfully sets up the story line, question and makes you guess who the murderer is, and shocks you at the end. I found that I couldn’t put the book down and kept wanting more. I hope to continue following Lauren, Sam, and all the townspeople of Crawford.

As she begins uncovering some harsh and undesirable truths surrounding this crime, she also comes face to face with some of her own personal demons.
Its now a question of can Lauren prove the truth and out the real killer, or will she lose her life entirely?

Lauren Besoner, who we met in Racine’s first book “Silent Gavel” has declined full-time employment as court reporter for the new judge, her ex-husband. She now finds herself freelance court reporting and having to hustle to make ends meet. She picks up a job that looks to provide some steady income for a while, unfortunately, it’s because her little town of Crawford, Wyoming is experiencing the biggest murder trial it has encountered in years. As Lauren works through the trial, she can’t shake the feeling that the wrong person is on trial so, as is Lauren’s nature, she starts to hunt for clues to find out who the real murderer might be. This journey leads her down a path of intrigue, suspense, and thrill that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat through the very last page.

Merissa Racine hits it out of the park again! She has done a fabulous job of creating a believable cast of characters that you immediately want to know more about and who keep you on your toes throughout the book. Her storytelling is excellent in that it is very easy to imagine what Crawford looks and feels like. She makes her main character, Lauren, so believable and relatable that you find yourself cheering for her and worrying about her throughout the book. She does a fantastic job of keeping the pace of the story and building just the right amount of suspense to keep you guessing. I enjoyed reading her first book and this one did not disappoint either. I am looking forward to seeing where she takes Lauren and the Crawford crew next.

I’m going to start with saying I loved it! Though I did have one minor grievance. Merissa Racine’s follow-up to Silent Gavel, Shadows of Doubt, was fantastic! I’m obsessed! I need more and I really hope the author intends on keeping the Crawford Mysteries going!
So to address my minor grievance, I was really disappointed that when the book started Lauren and Sam weren’t dating. Just having awkward conversations attempting to be friends. However I was happy with the direction the author took their dynamic to the end of the book. In regards to characters, I actually like the dynamic between Lauren and her ex-husband, the now Honorable Judge Anthony Jenkins.
Lauren subbing in for Tony’s court stenographer, while she’s on maternity leave, is there for Tony’s murder trail as a judge. The murder the Chief of police’s mother. It’s intriguing reading a book like this from a different point of view. I think that’s why I love it so much!
I really really hope Merissa Racine has more stories to tell, through these characters she created. Besides the fact I need more Lauren and Sam in my life as a sidebar to the story.

Shadows of Doubt (A Crawford Mystery) by Merissa Racine. I LOVE this series and this book was amazing! It can be read as a standalone but I really suggest reading the first book beforehand to get a feel for all the characters. Its the continuing story of Lauren Besoner, a court reporter who was wrongly charged in a judge’s murder last book. Lauren is working the biggest trial that her hometown in Wyoming has ever had. Lauren really has a gut feeling that the suspect is not guilty so of course she wants to do her own investigation. As Lauren is investigating she uncovers some stuff in her past she would much rather have been left hidden. Will Lauren be able to figure out who the killer is or will she end up losing not only her dream job but also her life? This series is such a fun, mysterious, who done it set of books. I can’t wait for the next one!

Shadows of Doubt is a novel by Merissa Racine. This is part of the Crawford Mystery series.

This is my first novel by this author and I could not put it down.

Lauren Besoner is desperate for money to the point where she agrees to work with her ex husband, the newly appointed judge.

But she realizes as she reports the murder case, that the wrong person is standing in the courtroom.

Will she continue to do the job she was hired to do or will she try to find the real killer?

This is my first novel by this author and I really enjoyed it. Definitely felt the dilemma Lauren found herself in. It would be the right thing to do to find the real culprit so someone did not go to jail, unjustly. On the other hand, she was paid to do a job and others may not believe her or cause her not to get paid.

I could not put this book down. I haven’t read any court based mysteries so this was a new genre for me and I am so happy I gave it a chance.

Now I want to go back and read the previous novel.

Shadows of Doubt is the second book of A Crawford Mystery by Merissa Racine. I highly suggest you read book one to be introduced to the main character of the book. The plotline is one of the best crime/thriller books I have read in a long time. The story kept me turning the pages faster and faster because I needed to see what was on the next page. The plotline kept me grounded because I did not want to miss a clue as to what was going to happen. The characters are off the charts. This is Lauren’s story, She has gotten herself in the middle of a murder mystery. Lauren needs money and she goes to her ex-husband, a new judge, for a job as his court reporter. Lauren is drawn to the case that is before her husband. She just cannot seem to stay out of trouble. She starts investigating and low and beholds she finds secrets the kind that she would have liked to keep buried. Will Lauren figure out the true identity of the murder or will there be a secret shared that cannot be unshared? I highly recommend this book to see how the story unfolds in your mind’s eye.

Two Words: SO. GOOD!
I had high hopes for the second book of the Crawford Mystery series as the first one was such an excellent read, and this one did not disappoint. It was succinct, with good flow and the character arcs hit exactly when they needed to. I especially love how Racine will lead the reader in one direction and then pull a 180 on them when it all comes together in a neat little bow. Half of the book I thought to myself “this is going to be what happens, just watch” and of course, nope there is a wonderful little twist that is just so satisfying.
Congratulation again Marissa, can’t wait to read the 3rd installment! I will be keeping an eye out for it!

Shadows of Doubt is the second book in the A Crawford Mystery Series by Merissa Racine. Holy Cow what an intense ride . This is a mystery that is an intense yet packed with action and mystery . Once you start reading its really hard to put down. This is a fairly new author to me but I’m a fan already. Lauren is a court reporter she’s desperate for money so she jumps at the chance at any jobs that come her way even if it means doing a job where her ex is the new judge. When a elderly woman is found murdered and one of jer workers is being accused of the crime. Lauren knows something isn’t right about all of this . But is she willing to risk everything to try and prove he’s innocent? I don’t want to spoil anything about this on the edge of your seat mystery. I highly recommend reading this to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Merissa Racine brings the suspense each time. I was sure I knew who the killer was. Then, wham! Twist!!! I didn’t see it coming. I was blindsided. But, I saw all the clues that had been there from the beginning. The ending is not what I expected. I hope that there are more mysteries coming!

Lauren Besoner has been freelance court reporting since her ex-husband, Tony, became the judge. She knew that she could not work for him. Lauren agrees to cover for his court reporter while she is on maternity leave. This puts Lauren smack dab in the middle of the biggest thing the little town has ever seen, a murder trial. Lauren doesn’t believe that the accused is guilty. She winds up discovering the real murderer and so much more. Will Lauren ever be the same?

I didn’t understand the reason for all the testimony. I have to admit that it dragged on for me a bit. I realized that all of it was important. If not for the details provided by the individual witnesses, some of the reasons when the real killer is revealed wouldn’t make sense. I don’t think we have seen the last of Ray. Impatiently waiting for the next one!

Shadows of Doubt is the second book in the Crawford Mystery series by Merissa Racine. This is my first read by this author and I read the series out of order. Personally, I think they can be read as a stand alone but recommend reading them in order.
Lauren Besoner is a court reporter, in serious need of some money. So she agrees to take a job for her ex-husband. In this case, a young pizza delivery driver is accused of murdering an elderly lady.
Lauren doesn’t buy it, and started seeing a few inconsistencies. But is she willing to loose her job to speak up? Will she be able to prove this young man’s innocence before it’s too late?
This story is a suspenseful mystery, that will keep you guessing. Not everything is as it seems.

Shadows of Doubt (A Crawford Mystery) by Merissa Racine is a great installment to this series. While the first book was incredible and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time Racine does a even better job in book two. The mystery and the hunt for justice makes Ms. Racine’s writing and plot very compelling. Full of suspense, mystery, and so much more I once again found myself unable to put the book down. Being the second in this series, I couldnt wait to see how this story played out. And I must say I enjoyed this one more the first one and thats saying something!

We follow Lauren again, a few months after the first book ends. She is freelancing and is filling in at her ex’s office with the court also.
We get to see many sides of different characters as they are all part of different legal issues in this one and I loved thinking the worst of one person and being blindsided by who it was for real.

I was really hooked by this story I wanted to keep turning pages when I was done. I really hope we get another book, as i not only find myself lost in the pages of these books but I also like the small budding romance we see happening.

Merissa Racine so knowable about what happens in the court room that it makes you really feel like you’re really sitting there. The way Lauren gets into every situation really has you on your seat wondering what is going to happen. I couldn’t put this book down just like the first one. Ahhh book 2 in this series and it was such a great read. I loved the suspense and mystery of this story and I recommend reading book 1 first before diving into book 2. Lauren, who is a court reporter, is in need of money and decides to work for her ex husband, who is the new judge. Lauren has this instinct that the person who is on trial for the murder she is working on, may not be guilty. You get the sense that not everything is what is seems. There are motives and Lauren is trying to solve this case on her own. Author Merissa Racine really can get a reader pulled into the story on a who done it suspense thriller. Shadows of Doubt is the second book in the A Crawford Mystery series. You can read this as a standalone, however you’ll get more of a feel for some of the characters if you read the first book.
After reading the first book and finding it good but a bit slow in places, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one but decided to give it a go. The series is definitely picking up the pace. It’s interesting to have a main character that’s not in law enforcement trying to solve the crime. And of course, nothing makes a great twist in the mystery like uncovering unexpected secrets!
Great rainy day read!

Merissa has given the reader a fresh look at a murder mystery through the eyes of a court stenographer. The cast of characters are certainly interesting and entertaining. There is danger check, action check, and lots of drama check.
