8 Second Ride by Shannon Nemechek

I seem to be on a cowboy kick right now, this is one of the few I have read or listened to over the last few weeks.  This book was a very quick read and I was surprised when I hit the end.  It flew by as I got lost in the story.

Tuck had the patience of a Saint while dealing with Jessie and her antics, though he had no idea what he was really getting while dealing with her.

Jessie was a brat, but the reason almost makes sense to me. I guess the old lady in me sees things differently now than I did at that age.

I wish this had been a bit longer,  but that’s mostly because I’m nosey and want to know what happens next.

If you have an hour or so to yourself,  give this book a try.

8 Second Ride by Shannon Nemechek

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by Nemechek. Nemechek knows how to keep readers coming back to read her work. Short, sweet, and funny.

Jessie is the rancher’s daughter and she’s spoiled. She’d been hurt before by a cowboy so she’s being picky on her next one. If they can’t handle her then she didn’t want to be with them. Along comes Tuck and things change. The quote I chose for Jessie is: “That’s true, I did. And I will say it again. Tuck McGraw, I love you. Let’s get married in Vegas.”

Tuck is a former Army Ranger and now he’s going for the gold buckle. He wants to follow his dad’s footsteps and he’s going to be doing it. Going to Vegas has been a dream of his since he was little. The quote I chose for Tuck is: “We will just see about that once we get back to the ranch.”

Highly recommended for Western Romance lovers.

Tuck wants nothing more than to follow his father’s example and win the Golden Buckle at the Rodeo. When the news that he is going to Las Vegas to take part in the National Final’s reaches him, he couldn’t be more thrilled. One big spanner in the works or horseshoe slammed against his head repeatedly, is Jessie. She is the boss’s daughter and is one spoiled mess of a handful, causing him problems whenever she is around. He can’t stand her, and though she looks good, he can’t get past her ugly heart. Problem is, Jessie isn’t really as spoilt as she comes across, she’s just prickly on the outside to protect her wounded heart from been broken again and though she wants Tuck, she cannot bring herself to open up.
I want to say first off that this story was not for me. It wasn’t that I hated it, or anything like that, but the story and the setting are not really things that I enjoy reading and for that reason I just struggled to get into this. However, people that love a good steamy romance, with the fire and crackle of a hate to love romance will enjoy this. I will say though, that the story could have gotten away with been longer. I think that the relationship and some of the story beats at times felt a little bit rushed, and a longer book could have given them space to breathe a little and develop in a way that felt a bit more natural.
Still, I will say that Nemechek packed a lot into a short story and did it well, even if at times it did feel a bit rushed and for anyone that is looking for a short steamy number, this is definitely for you.

If you are looking for a quick read with great character development, Shannon Nemechek’s 8 Second Ride is for you. The story opens with Tuck McGraw in a panic. He is running behind for work at the Four Leaf Ranch, and dreaded the possibility of being the errand boy for Jessie Flanagan. Jessie was the snobby daughter that felt the need to flaunt her body and money to impress others. When Tuck arrives, he discovers that he made the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Liam decided to give a party that evening in Tuck’s honor.
Just as Tuck is feeling at the top of the world, along comes Jessie, and he has been assigned the task of taking her shopping in town. On the way to town, Tuck begins to give her a reality check of how he thought she was ugly inside. Unfortunately, on the ride back, Tuck receives a call from the PBR. His trip was completely paid for, but Jessie interrupts the call and adds herself and her best friend to the list. How will Tuck handle the sudden intrusion of Jessie with his future in the rodeo circuit? Why does she want to go?

The character development of this book is a favorite feature of mine. The back story and motivation for Tuck flow well with his actions throughout the story. I was surprised at the abrupt ending as it left me wanting to read more. This is a book for mature adults; the profanity and sexual innuendos are not appropriate for young adults. This is a book that made me feel like everyone should follow their dreams no matter how difficult they may be to achieve.

This is a quick novella that can be read while having lunch. Tuck wants his 8 second ride of fame to win the belt buckle. He wants to make his family proud. Tuck is late for work and he’ll probably be stuck with the boss’s daughter again. It wouldn’t be so bad if she wasn’t a spoiled brat. He could think of a lot of things he would like to do with her. Jesse has been in love with Tuck since she first laid eyes on him. She needs to know if he is worth it. So she’s putting him to the test. The chemistry is there but can he prove himself?

I kind of felt like I was watching an episode of Yellowstone. I had no patience for Jesse and found that she had a weird way of showing that she loved Tuck. That being said, the book was well written. If you like cowboys, you’ll enjoy this story.

I really enjoyed this steamy short read. If you like cowboys and spoilt girls then it is definately for you.

Tuck McGraw  is a hardworking cowboy. After servicing his country he has returned home with his heart set on following his dad’s footsteps and getting the Golden Buckle at the rodeo. The only thorn in his side is his bosses spoilt daughter who makes his life hell.

Jess isn’t the spoilt brat she makes herself out to be. She is trying to protect herself from getting hurt again by a cowboy. As hard as she had fallen for Tuck she has to make him prove himself to her.

Can Tuck work his way through her test? Do they feel the same or does Tuck just see her as a spoilt brat.

I struggled a bit deciding on 4 or 5 stars for this story. It was written very well and was as usual what I expect from this author. I love her books and it read really easy, smooth, and quick. Although a bit predictable it was still a fun story to read. On the other hand it was too quick for me. The transition of enemies to lovers happened a bit too quick and I did not get that build up feeling while it was happening. I was also left totally unsatisfied because the story seemed unfinished. I was hoping for an epilogue that took place in Vegas and that did not happen.

It was only 39 or 40 pages and I wish it had been more like 70 and more of the story was told. I found myself more interested and looking forward to what was going to happen in Vegas and after then what I was actually reading.

So in a nutshell, I loved the story and the writing. I just wanted more of it and more of the build up.

This quick read has a lot going on.

Tuck is an army-vet ranch hand who is hoping for a spot at the PBR finals in Las Vegas. His dream is to bring home the gold buckle. To make ends meet now, he works on the Four Leaf Ranch. He enjoys his job and his boss…it’s the boss’ spoiled daughter, Jessie, that gets to him. Jessie is hot, but she acts like a spoiled brat and that is not attractive to Tuck.

Jessie may act like a spoiled daddy’s girl…but it’s because she is protecting her heart. She has been through some tough times that keep her from opening her heart (or her bed) to cowboys. Her ex did a number on her. But a drunken confession about her true feelings change the dynamics between her and Tuck. Can she trust this cowboy?

Like I said, this was a fast read but it was enjoyable. I would like more of the story…like what happens in Vegas.

8 Second Ride is an exciting and really short story by Shannon Nemechek. I have not read this author’s work before and enjoyed this story quite a bit. Tuck and Jessie’s story is a very quick one, but thoroughly entertaining. Enemies to begin with, the last thing Tuck wants to do is babysit spoilt little rich girl Jessie. They spit fire at each other, and lock horn many times, thus providing a charismatic and quirky story. It was edgy. It was sexy. It was thrilling. 4 stars.

Let’s first talk about this cover!
I absolutely love it! It gives me Safe Haven and The Longest Ride vibes. The sunset is beautiful and it makes me want to know these silhouetted people standing in front of it. I also really love that there’s a cowboy on the chapter heads.
Even though this story was short I loved it, straight to the point and leaves you wanting more. I would love to eventually see an extension on the story but this one was able to make you like the characters and be engaged in their lives from the first chapter. It was beautifully written and I can’t wait to read more by this author. Jessie is a spoiled brat that wants attention, meanwhile Tuck is a true cowboy and just wants to do his job and ride bulls. But something is coming that changes everything. Strap in for the ride!

This was a very quick read and didn’t go at all how I expected it to.
I really liked getting to know the characters, there is quite a bit packed into this book.
There is something to be said about letting people see who you really are when there is the potential for things to go cross again, and this was a great interpretation about that and how people put on a show to protect themselves.

When you are stuck with the boss’s bratty daughter what are you going to do, strangle her or kiss her?

Tuck is biding his time waiting for his call up to the big Rodeo stage but he wakes up one morning knowing he will be late for work. After hauling his ass as quickly as possible he knows the only job that will be left is babysitting Jess the boss’s spoilt daughter which just grates on him.

When arriving at the Ranch all hell breaks loose when the decision has been announced and he is going to the PBR event and Mr Flanagan wants to throw him a party, who is he to say no.
Jess is smitten with Tuck but as she has putting on the spoilt brat attitude around him will he see beyond this act and see her for her. She can only hope.

This is the first book I have read by this author and loved it. The sweet nature of Tuck and in real insecurities that came from Jess was lovely to see. The two characters were well written and the chemistry bubbled underneath the surface until it exploded at the end. Although this is a novella the story is not rushed or sloppy but I would like to read more of their adventures in Vegas. I also loved the interaction of the secondary characters and I am sure there is a story regarding Bubba in there somewhere. Thank you for letting us peak into this world and hope there is more.

I have to say that this is a really quick but very enjoyable read. This is also the first book I have read from this author and I was not disappointed. I have to say that the author really packs a punch in this short read. The characters come to life and the author does quite the job of packing just enough drama in this little story.

I like the chemistry between Tuck and Jess. I like how the attraction is there but there is a bit of hard to get mixed with dislike of attitude. I really like that in the end they come together. I really like the fact that this is a short read and that although short it was not shorting the reader. At the same time I wanted more. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.

I give 8 Second Ride by Shannon Nemechek 4 out of 5 stars. It is not my typical read, but it is quite enjoyable and the characters are relatable. At 40 pages, this story is quick and easy-to-read. Dakota “Tuck” McGraw is an ex-Army Ranger and hopeful National Rodeo Champion. His boss’s spoiled daughter, Jessie, is a thorn in his side, and they don’t agree on much, but that doesn’t last for long! Soon, the chemistry bubbles and as the two take a trip to Vegas for the National Rodeo Championship. What starts out as a rocky relationship, turns steamy and the tension is palpable. This is not my first book by Shannon Nemechek and it will not be my last. 8 Second Ride is a short story that is realistic. The plotline is a simple story about a spoiled daddy’s girl, Jessie whose dad told his employee Tuck that she has to go with him to the rodeo finals. Tuck is on his way to win a buckle but he has Jessie in his path. Can Tuck put Jessie out of his mind while he is on his 8-second ride or will Jessie be the only thing on his mind? Will Jessie take it easy on Tuck so he can win his buckle or will she be annoying? Is there something else brewing between them? I highly recommend you read this book to see how everything works out.

Spoiled and Daddys Girl,WOW! Is my first response after reading this short story. But don’t let the length of this story change your mind on reading this book. It is just the right book for a quick read.
Jessie Flanagan is spoiled rotten and gets what she wants when she wants it. She does not care who is standing in front of her, she will take it. Mean and spoiled not a good combination. Tuck however is the nicest cowboy around. He wants to follow in his father’s footsteps. He wants that 8 second ride and the buckle that goes with it. . Can these two get along? Is Jessie really that spoiled daddy’s girl she wants everybody to believe?

Shannon Nemechek has written this quick read. She left nothing out, this story has it all. The girl, the boy and the steamy romance. The characters and the story go together perfectly. Jessie and Tuck are complete opposites, working to just get along. But sometimes the inside is much different than the outside. I am looking forward to reading more from Shannon Nemechek! Her books leave you wanting more. Well Done Shannon Nemechek! Well Done.

What a great short story! 8 Second Ride is written by Shannon Nemechek. In this story, we meet Tuck, who is Ex-Army and trying to win a rodeo buckle. Jesse is a spoiled little daddy’s girl and not into the whole rodeo scene. When Jesse’s dad sends her to Las Vegas with Tuck things start to develop between the two. Their chemistry is amazing! They do say that opposites attract. In 40 pages, this author takes us on a wonderful journey between two completely different people. It was a very quick read but was really good. I was quite impressed. I love short stories but I always want them to be a bit longer and more drawn out. However, this book is not like this at all! Not only was it a very quick read, but it was a steamy one as well, at least toward the end. Definitely an 18+ read. To be honest at the beginning I thought this book was going to be a about a rodeo, but it definitely wasn’t. It was a very well written novel (like the ones of Nemechek’s I’ve read before) which made it that much easier to become submersed in this read. All in all I really enjoyed this book. So far I haven’t found a Nemechek novel I haven’t liked. I can’t wait to read the next novel!

8 Second ride is a short story by Shannon Nemechek. It is a love/hate story, or more accurately, a hate/love story. The main characters start off as enemies who can’t agree on anything, but as the sparks fly and the chemistry builds they become more than just friends.

I quite often avoid short stories as I usually find them rushed, especially towards the end. I was very happy that this was not the case in this story. The authors writing skills and storytelling ensured that the pace of the book moved quickly and that the reader was not left hanging at the end. My only complaint was that I still wanted more after the story had finished. I would recommend this book, especially if you are looking for a quick read and no cliffhangers.

8 Second Ride by Shannon Nemechek is a quick read but doesn’t feel like it in the sense that it has everything you want! This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was not disappointed.

Tuck and Jessie are not what you’d call friends. Jess is quite spoiled and Tuck has a hard time dealing with her. Imagine his surprise when she invites herself to Las Vegas where he is trying to win the title he so desperately wants. Tuck set out to follow in his dad’s footsteps and this buckle is part of that plan. Dealing with Jessie, not so much.

Jessie was not my favorite person. After she explained herself, I understood but it took a bit to get over. Tuck, as much as he tried to keep his cool in respect for her father, he gave it back to her. The characters were relatable. They were real. I really enjoyed reading their story!

This novella was a well written and jam packed love story with a bit of enemies to lovers undertone. I enjoyed how this played out quickly and allowed me to disappear into a warm country day for a few hours as I followed along with Jess and Tuck. I won’t lie. I really did not like Jess and honestly she still wasn’t a fav of mine by the end of the book. I mean I understood why she was the way she was but I believe we all have to grow up and be adults sometimes and take responsibility for our own personalities. She did redeem herself a bit and overall this book ended well and would bring me back if this became a series from Nemechek.

An enemy to lovers story, Tuck and Jess cannot see eye to eye on anything and they fight about everything. He is a farm hand on her father’s farm and she is a spoiled only child. Can they overcome their differences or will they continue to despise one another? The characters are developed well and the story line is there, I just want more.
