Great debut book! Quick, easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Perfect portrayal of single mom life & how messy divorce can be! A little bit of a slow start—however, it did keep me captivated until the end!

Elizabeth Candew is a recently divorced, mom of 2, who is struggling with her mounting bills! Desperately trying to get ahead, Elizabeth is drawn into a pyramid scheme that increases her already large credit card debt. Just when Elizabeth thinks things can’t get any worse, they of course do! Throw a murder in the mix and the detective investigating the homicide is an ex boyfriend who broke her heart. Murder & family drama, delivered with humor, keep the reader engaged from start to finish! Highly recommend and can’t wait for Ms. Hernon’s next book!

Elizabeth is a newly divorced single mom of 2, just trying to make things work. Her ex husband is playing around with child support, her couch is threadbare, her home needs repairs, her son needs cleats for soccer and so on. After attending an at home party with the glamorous Louisa, she begins to daydream about buying into the company and becoming successful.

Louisa convinces Elizabeth to buy in after a visit to her beautiful home (with a security guard and a gate!) and Elizabeth puts the money on her already loaded credit card.

On her next visit, she finds Louisa has been murdered, the detective is the boy who broke her heart, and she can’t even get a refund!

Such a fun, easy read. Suspense, humor, sweet moments, human scenarios and mistakes, and characters that are loveable and that you love to hate.

It took me a little bit to get the feel for Stitch By Stitch but I’m glad I stuck with it. It’s mysterious but also filled with romance, friendships, and family. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I read it within hours needing to know where the twists and turns led me.

Elizabeth is a single mother of two that is struggling in every way possible. Her ex-husband refuses to be a mature adult and ends up playing games with not only financial support, but the well-being of his child. When Elizabeth hears about a clothing line opportunity, it seems all her prayers have been answered. She takes a huge leap of faith and lands in a massive amount of debt only to find her opportunity is more of a trap. With feelings revived from a past flame and desperation at every corner, how long can Elizabeth hold it all together?

I thoroughly enjoyed the realness of the main character, Elizabeth. It doesn’t paint her in a predictable everything-is-perfect light, so she felt like someone I knew. Even if you aren’t gripped by the beginning of this book, give it a chance. You’ll enjoy the back-and-forth between the characters and every dilemma they face.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Stitch by Stitch was a great read. The characters are relatable and you’ll have a hard time putting it down.

Elizabeth is a newly divorced mom of two. She’s got an insane amount of debt piled up. She needs to find a way to get by. So she signs up for what she thinks is an easy deal. Now a murder investigation is under way and she’s a suspect. The quote I chose for Elizabeth is: “I completely agree,” Elizabeth said. “And I’m going to take Nancy’s jumpsuit in Royal, in a Medium. Would it be all right with you if I took home the consultant agreement and slept on it?”

Highly recommended for Cozy Mystery lovers.

This was a great easy-to-read cozy mystery. The main character is a single mom finding herself and overcoming flaws as she deals with situations after her divorce. I connected a lot with her and I thought the author did a great job bringing her to life. This was a fast, enjoyable summer read for me.

This book starts off with a bang. Early on we’re given the background to be able to understand the dynamics of the relationships Elizabeth has around her. This book takes on. Some pretty intense situations for a woman to go through. It is very well written and does a great job of keeping you engaged.

This was a great debut cozy mystery. We get to meet Elizabeth Candew, a recently divorced mom of two who is struggling to figure out who she is after the divorce and make ends meet without having a job. She is invited to a Lady Lily Wear party by her neighbor where she makes the decision to buy into the “business” and become her own boss. Unfortunately her mentor is murdered before she can teach her how to sell $3,000 worth of clothing. Elizabeth finds herself trying to juggle solving the murder, raising her 2 children, dealing with the fallout from her affair and the resulting baby, her son’s struggles at school, her ex-husband’s lack of support, rudeness from her ex sister-in-law, and the detective who is working the case, who turns out to be the guy she loved and lost in high school. I appreciated that the author gave us a very realistic character that was flawed and had to work hard for any improvements in her life and herself. The story definitely had its ups and downs, but if you are looking for a fun mystery with a down to earth heroine, this is a great story!

Stitch by Stitch was not as “fast moving” as I had hoped it would be, yet it managed to keep my attention from start to finish. Elizabeth as a character was real and relatable as she tried to do what was best for her kids and readjust to life. The author’s rich character development and attention to detail really made you feel like you knew the characters on a personal level. This is probably what I liked most about the novel! The author manages to pull in humor with real life scenarios all while throwing murder and the obvious mystery element without the book feeling sloppy or unreasonable.
I would definitely recommend Stitch by Stitch and hope to read more of this author in the future.

Elizabeth is a single mother of 2 struggling in her day to day life. She cheated on her husband resulting in a child that was not his causing them to divorce. Elizabeth knows she messed up and lives everyday living the consequences. Her ex-husband, still angry, is making things worse. Late with the child support cheque and letting his thoughts of his ex-wife known to their son. Elizabeth falls deeper and deeper into debt. She goes to a trunk show where a woman, named Louisa, is selling clothing in a pyramid scheme. Sounding too good to be true, Elizabeth falls for it. On her way to her first training session, she is met by police tape and the murder of Louisa. Elizabeth makes it her duty to solve the murder.

Trying to solve a murder, take care of a toddler by herself, protect her older son from bullies, an appearance of an ex, Elizabeth tries to do it all.

This book is the debut novel written by this author and it shows. The synopsis made the book sound really interesting and it was for the most part. The only downfall was it was very repetitive and felt like the author was just trying to fill the pages. It did not focus on the murder very often and then felt very rushed to close the case at the end of the book.

This is the debut novel of this author and it’s a nice Cozy Mystery. A really strong start however during the middle it Started to lack as it started to throw down in its pace. I thoroughly enjoyed the promise of this story as well as having the murders all planned out. Having your ex-boyfriend with the lead of the case for the murderers in your town is serving enough but when you are a suspect at the time as well you feel great. Will Red solve the mystery of these murders will Elizabeth be free to continue her newly divorced life?

I picked up this book not knowing what to expect since I was looking for a quick read. Pretty good book. Fast read if you are looking for a weekend entertainment. At the beginning I was not impressed by the book since the main character Elizabeth can be a little frustrating at times. She has so much going on in her life. This book has a pretty good description of what divorce can look like and what a desperate mother would do to give her family a decent life. The story gets better once the murders begin and Elizabeth’s ex (not the one she divorced) comes in to the picture. If you are interested in family drama, romance, piramid schemes and murder, this is the book for you. I will definitely be reading more from Marie-Therese Hernon.

Elizabeth Candew has a lot of things going on in her life but most of them aren’t going the way she’d like for them to. She’s divorced, has a child that was conceived after an affair, has a pre-teen son who keeps getting in trouble, a crazy and overbearing ex-sister-in-law, and the list goes on. It’s when she attends a party for Lady Lily Wear that things really start to get interesting.

I love that Elizabeth’s last name is “Candew” because I firmly believe that she can overcome the challenges that life is throwing at her. She has a lot of lessons to learn and she stumbles several times along the way but the end result is worth it. I enjoyed this book although I do feel that it slowed down considerably after a character is found murdered. Overall, I was pleased with this debut book by Ms. Hernon.

When I started reading this book, it caught me off guard thinking how realistic it was. I know many people that have been sucked in by MLM pyramid schemes and I cannot count the number of times I have been asked to host parties by acquaintances on social media. The author further delves into these types of businesses and very succinctly describes the people involved. The book gives a great sense of everyday life with the suspense of a murder mystery. It feels like it could be the story of people you know.

The thing that I think is most important about this book is that the author includes marginalized people and very astutely presents flawed characters. No one character is all bad or all good – as Elizabeth points out many times. There is a significant portion of the book dedicated to bullying at all levels/ages and there are characters who call out the bullies regardless of the tense situations doing so can lead to.

There is great messaging wrapped up in the package of solving a mystery, and I did not foresee the resolution! Good story, better characters!!

Stitch By Stitch is the debut novel from Marie- Thérèse Hernon. It is a bit of a cozy mystery- written in a women’s fiction style, with a small town setting, murder, drama, and family- while giving us a interesting snap-shot into suburban life.
Elisabeth is desperately trying to get her life back on track and to make ends meet after divorce leaves her financially strapped. With her children to support, Elizabeth goes against her better judgement, she maxes out her credit card on a new business venture that she hopes will solve all her problems. But murder puts her plans into tail-spin, leaving her with more worries to contend with. Add to the mix the fact that the detective investigating the murder just happens to be the guy who broke her heart back in high school. Another problem to add to her mounting pile. What happens here certainly makes for an intriguing read.
Looking forward to more from Ms. Hernon in the future…
Happy Reading!

I feel this book is more of a 3.5 for me and I’m about to tell you why. Well I was really into Stitch by Stitch when I started reading it. Unfortunately for me midway through it really slowed down and I started to lose interest. It didn’t stop me from finishing it, and I’m glad I did. Besides that I really liked the premise for the story. Pyramid scheme murders is how I’m dubbing it. One never knows what type of person they signed up to a business until they take their deposit and don’t deliver the goods. In this case the goods were delivered but their mentors dropped them high and dry with no assistance. Those types of job opportunities are the ones that make things very leery when looking for a job. Making this book very relevant, realistic, and at least the anger of this story relatable.
Elizabeth, a recently divorced mother of two is struggling. She needs a job, and after attending this “trunk show” for Lady Lily Wear she’s interested. She believes she can truly do this job and be as successful as her mentor. What she doesn’t realize is it’s pretty much a scam, more about the people you sign up vs the product. Then her mentor turns up dead. Trying to reach out to the next person she reports to with no response. Come to find out she’s dead too! Now it’s time for her own investigation. Unfortunately for her she has to play nice with the man who broke her heart in high school. Ex-boyfriend Red Garcia is not only back in town but is the lead detective on the case.
Does she succeed?
Does she help ex-boyfriend/cop in solving these murders?
Is there still something between Red and Elizabeth?
In asking those questions ask yourself this, do you yourself like a interesting murder/mystery? If the answer is yes, you should jump in now! Just be mindful if you feel like it slows down, just stick with it and push through. You won’t be disappointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging small town mystery which kept me entertained from start to finish. The storyline has a great mix of murder mystery, life in suburbia, drama and suspense, and a bit of romance, all of which had me hooked. Elizabeth Candew is newly divorced, has a mountain of bills, a dwindling bank balance, and is arguing with her ex husband over him paying, or rather not paying, child support. Elizabeth believes her luck is changing when she meets the glamorous and seemingly reputable Louisa Davenport. When Louisa tells her about a business opportunity, Elizabeth thinks her financial problems are over, and so uses her credit card to invest in the business. However, when she arrives for a training session with Louisa, she discovers that she has been murdered, and Elizabeth can’t get a refund.
Making things even more stressful for Elizabeth, is the fact that the detective assigned to the murder case is an old high school boyfriend, who broke her heart and then left town. Elizabeth also has her own ideas as to who murdered Louisa. This was a great read, the storyline and plot twists kept me guessing and I found it hard to put this book down. I loved Elizabeth as the main character, who was likeable and relatable and brought the story together. The setting was brought to life through the descriptive narrative and I really felt immersed in the story. I loved the use of humour throughout the novel, giving it a light touch. I found this to be a real page turner, and one which I definitely recommend reading.

Stitch by Stitch is a cosy mystery tale. It is a small-town romance with some humour. Marie-Thérèse has given readers a story that is an intriguing murder mystery. I really enjoyed the wit. The flawed, tough and sassy protagonist is likeable and relatable. Some characters you will like and others you just want to ring their necks. With one chauvinistic ex-husband, a boy who left her broken hearted, kids to look after and much much more Marie-Thérèse certainly puts Elizabeth through her paces.

Hoping to better her life for herself and her children Elizabeth finds herself falling in an even bigger hole.

This is a wonderful page turner that is easy to read which makes it perfect for a few hours of escaping the real world.

Elizabeth is my hero. She is a single mom working to recover from a bad divorce. She has a crappy ex and an ex-sister-in-law with a bad attitude. This poor gal has family drama coming out of the corners. You name it, she’s dealing with it. Toss in an ex-boyfriend who’s now the police chief (he happens to be investigating a murder). You’ve got drama, murder, romance, humor. Who needs ‘Real Housewives…’? I’ve got Elizabeth and her issues. I fell in love with this story. So relatable because the struggles are real. She’s just trying to take care of her family and dig a little time for her. She got duped into an “opportunity” to sell lingerie but, oops….her upline was murdered. Now, she’s stuck with this large investment to try to get rid off. I do fell the murder took a back seat while the other issues got more front line but it all ended coming together nicely. I don’t think I’ve laughed quite so much. Minus the murder, I’ve lived most of that life. My favorite part was watching Elizabeth grow and discover what she wanted as a person and going for what was important to her. It can be sad to see the romance not work out but to see her grow was exhilarating. Good book that I will recommend to all.

I really enjoyed this story. The author does an amazing job with the characters. In the beginning you really feel for our leading lady Elizabeth. She is struggling with so many things from her divorce, to trying to survive day to day life all the while fighting against her ex husband and his horrible sister. You really feel her struggle at times but as the story progresses you see Elisabeth grow into a strong independent woman.
The main thing I related with her on was her love and devotion she has for her children. No matter what she is going through she always fights for and puts her children first.
I also loved the mix of romance with an old flame and mystery when someone turns up dead.
And that someone is the lady that Elizabeth decides to invest in to start her own business. But when she finds Lousia has been murdered her problems only get worse financially speaking as she loses the money she has invested. Add to this the added stress of her ex flame being the one who is on the murder case which only adds to Elizabeth’s mounting stress.
Will the person responsible for the murder be who Elizabeth expects? Will she be able to find her feet and get back on track on her own to support herself and her kids? And what of the old flame, is his appearance back in her life the sign of something new that was lost or will it just lead to more stress and confusion.

This book was a fun and exciting ride al the way through. Full of characters you could connect with, as well as love or hate! The story took many twists and turns. I did not expect things to happen at times that they did! The book was a true diamond in the rough, and I loved reading it every minute!

Something I loved about this book besides all the characters that really aided and added to the story on their own (which was perfectly done if I may say) Elizabeth, was a character that was a true gem. She was someone who I would look up to as a mother, you could not only read, but truly feel how much she loved her children and would do anything for them! And she jugged all this despite personal issues she was facing, but again it was her way of coping with the things in her life. She was real, and her realism made her such a commendable characters. Loved the murder and the mystery that surrounded as well. This was a new author for me, and certainly not my last! I could not put this down, loved it!

The book was a true master piece from start to finish. One that I do very much highly recommend to everyone! I will defiantly say its a must read! Not one to be passed up! Truly a golden read!
