The Girls Across the Bay (The Knox and Sheppard Mysteries, Book 1) by Emerald O’Brien is a mystery thriller and a good start to the series. The story kept me glued to the pages and wanting to know what was coming next. It is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and the storyline and the plot was well done. There are some dark moments in the book but there is also some light. The story was told in dual POV with the sisters which was great because it enriches the story being able to get inside their minds.
Madigan and Grace met in the foster care system and were manipulated and treated badly by those who should have loved them. Now adults, they are reunited but when a murder happens their past comes back to haunt them.

I really enjoyed the premise behind this book and found the two main characters very interesting. I was pulled in immediately and invested in the outcome. The author kept me guessing as to how everything would come out in the end. I enjoyed this book and give it four stars

The Girls Across the Bay is the first novel in the Knox and Sheppard series by Emerald O’ Brien. This is my first novel by this author.
I really enjoyed this mystery novel involving two girls that are in foster care and are separated but meet again as adults because of their careers. It made me curious how much the two had changed as the years passed and how much the past affected their lives. The author does an amazing job of weaving the past and present giving the reader just enough information without spoiling too much and still leaving some questions to be answered.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this novel or not. Sure it had some flaws such as some things didn’t feel all that realistic but it didn’t take away from the story just because some things were described or in depth.
I loved the characters as well as the twists and turns. I don’t want to give away too much.

I’ve never read this author before, and I’m kicking myself because what an amazing read!
I was hooked from the beginning,.and I loved how it went back and forth between the two main characters. Just because you both go through the same thing, doesnt mean you remember it all the same way or feel the same.
We are thrown into a crime scene and from there things snowballed and circled back around to an ending I honestly didn’t see coming, like really.
Each woman is so.different and going through life just a little different but they will always have each other.
I can’t say much without giving too much away, but i can’t wait to read more.

The Girls Across the Bay by Emerald O’Brien is a great opening for the The Knox and Sheppard Mysteries series. O’Brien has an interesting way of writing that makes the clues hide behind his descriptive writing style. I was gripping my kindle as I was reading because I was so wrapped up in the story I forgot my surroundings. The story is about two foster girls Madigan and Grace, who became sisters. There was a situation and the girls were split up and was raised in different homes. They were reunited only to be thrown again into a murder mystery, and that was not all of it. There are things coming up to make the ladies question who to trust. Will Madigan and Grace overcome their deep secrets? Only by reading this book will you find out.

The Girls across the Bay (The Knox and Sheppard Mysteries, Book 1) by Emerald O’Brien. I Loved this book! Its the story of Madigan Knox and Grace Sheppard who become sister living in a foster home together. They are what keeps each other going until a horrible nightmare splits them up. Madigan becomes a reporter and Grace becomes a Criminal Investigator so when a woman is found dead in her home they are reconnected due to the crime. When a secret from their past comes out that is connected to this woman’s death will the traumatic past rip them apart or pull them closer together. Will they survive this horrible secret? This book is so good and if you love a good mystery this is your new read! Its awesome!

The Girls Across the Bay was a great read from a new to me author! I will admit that it did take me a little time to get into the story and it was slower in parts than others but I will still on the edge of seat at times and I wanted to keep reading to see what was going to happen. I won’t say that this was an easy read; I read it slower than I would normally just so I could fully understand what was going on but the storyline was really strong in my opinion. I liked that the author had chosen to write from multiple points of view, it really enabled me to understand what the characters were thinking and why they did what they did. I will be looking forward to seeing where the author takes this series; I can definitely see it getting better and better! Overall a decent 4 star read that I would recommend!

The Girls Across The Bay from Emerald O’Brien was a toss up for me most of the way through. I absolutely adore O’Brien’s writing and several of her previous books. This one was a bit difficult for me though. I adored the concept and the final way things turned out, but the reading was a tad confusing for myself at times. Don’t get me wrong I fully feel that the story itself is worthy of four stars easily. It just has to be said that this is wordy. So much so that at times I often confused the sisters dialogue and well just the two in general. I usually love dual POV reads because it gives the insight into each character. This did so but it was so much that at times I couldn’t keep it straight.
The story and mystery itself was intriguing. I loved the background it was set against and felt transformed there on the bay myself. The complex mystery that is woven is on point in suspense and intrigue and kept me reading when I got frustrated. This is typical of O’Brien though, as she really knows how to weave a suspenseful storyline. I will definitely be back for more with book two.

The Trouble with Paradise was another very enjoyable read in the Madeline Dawkins series! I absolutely love Madeline and Mike – they are such an awesome team and I love reading about them and trying to solve they mysteries right alongside them. The cases that they are involved in investigating always throw up some great twists and turns – I enjoy guessing what’s going to happen and I think the author does an amazing job of keeping the suspense and mystery running through the whole story. There were also some interesting secondary characters introduced into the story too. The two cases in this story were really interesting and I enjoyed reading about how Madeline and Mike unravelled just what happened. I do really enjoy Ms Hamilton’s writing, I am always engaged in her stories straight away and my level of interest doesn’t falter over the story. I highly recommend this book and this series – they really are excellent reads!

Children of the Future is the debut mystery by Jane Suen. It is funny how I went back to the ‘beginning’ after having read couple of her later stories and you can see how a writer has grown with each book they have created. When you read the synopsis for the story, you ask yourself if this is an episode of X-Files where instead of Mulder and Scully we have Telly and Billy … The writer takes us to a little town called Rocky Flats where 25 kids and 3 teachers have disappeared … who or what took them? You will need to follow the clues that the writer has given us and I promise you that whatever you think you know, you are completely wrong and you will get a profound aha moment when it all gets revealed … You need to take your time when you start with the story, it is Jane Suen’s debut novel and it might seem as if it is her inexperience that you think you are encountering in seemingly unnecessary information and replays of earlier scenes and maybe it is so but at the same time if you slow down and get into the feel of the little town and its people you wonder that maybe it is all on purpose …

The Trouble with Paradise by Cynthia Hamilton is a novel in the Madeline Dawkins Mystery. This is a brilliant series that is fast paced and gripping. It was great to be able to get back into the same characters again. It felt like you were just picking up where you left off, it was that easy to slip back into the series. Again I was left trying to figure out what was going on and who was involved. It really was a guessing game and it was intriguing right to the end. This has been such a strong series so far and it is one I can definitely recommend.

Children of the Future is a novel by Jane Suen. This is my first novel by this author.
In the small town of Rocky Flats, the weeks starts like any other but when 25 students and 3 teachers disappear, the town rallies together to solve this mystery. With help from the bus driver whose name is Telly and another student, follows clues in search of the missing people.
From the title of this novel, I thought the plot had something to do with the future like kids from the future coming to the past for an unknown reason. But the mystery is more than even I thought it was going to be.
The novel started out slow, but it did keep me interested. With the holiday, I wasn’t able to do a binge a read like I usually do, so I had to keep putting it down, but once it got into the story, I was reading it more quickly.
For anyone who wants to interesting and unique mystery, I would recommend.

Another Madeline Dawkins mystery – another five star adventure. Hamilton continues to weave a captivating tale that just entrances me from beginning to end. I love her level of detail and her ability to keep the reader guessing. Madeline continues to be a main character that just resonates loudly with me. I simply loved this installment. This book and series are most definitely a must read.

The story The Trouble with Paradise (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery Book 4) by Cynthia Hamilton is the next amazing book in a series that I have loved reading since the first story. The book pulls you in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished the last page. It has mystery and danger. I loved reading about the characters of Madeline and Mike. They are an awesome PI team who work well together and are the best of friends. They find themselves investigating two different deaths of two different husbands. Once they start discoveries are soon made. Are the two cases not all that they seem to be? Read this book to find out. The story had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. I felt like I was right there with Mike and Madeline. The other characters that you are introduced to are interesting and I found myself wondering about what some of their motives really were as the story progressed. I felt like I was trying to put together a puzzle with the clues that are given. This is an author who has created a series that is wonderful to read with unforgettable characters. I highly recommend this book and series.

This is my favorite in this series yet. One of the things I enjoy most about this author is her ability to pull me into her story from the beginning and keep me engaged until the end. In this story, Madeline and Mike are back at it with two cases with two different women. They have to figure out if one was set up for her husband’s death and the other if he took his own life. Will they find the secrets these two men had? Page turning suspense and mystery. I highly recommend this book.

Though I was always an ardent reader, I was convinced I couldn’t string sentences together if my life depended on it. Fortunately for me, when I was looking for something creative I could do from bed—if my mystery illness progressed to that point—I decided to try my hand at it. No pressure, no expectations. I didn’t tell anyone what I was up to. I just wanted to see if I could string sentences together and tell an interesting story.
I remembered a quote by Hemingway, “Write about what you know.” With this mandate, I chose a topic I knew well, the time spent living with my husband in the French Quarter of New Orleans. I typed out my first two paragraphs on my forty-third birthday. I finished that book on my next birthday, and started my second the same day.
As my still-nameless illness progressed, I continued running the family business and continued to write. Nine years after my symptoms began, I finally received a correct diagnosis: Lyme disease, and more specifically, late-stage Lyme, because it had been allowed to progress untreated for so long.

Finding Ruth was inspired by a previously unseen photograph of my mother when she was nineteen. I found it as I was going through her things prior to her move into a skilled nursing hospital. That gorgeous photograph of her looking so happy and full of promise made me realize how little I knew about her life before I came along. Because Alzheimer’s has taken away all her memories, I painstakingly reconstructed her life from public records, thousands of photographs, and what my brother, sister and I could remember. The message in the tribute to my mom is Ask while you have the chance.
As of this writing, I have just completed the fourth book in the Madeline Dawkins mystery series. I’m still in love with writing and I still squeal with joy to think that I’ve written eleven books and self-published nine of them. If there is a message in this, it’s Never discount what you are capable of achieving.

I have read most of her writing and I was delighted to see that she added another exiting and sexy series into the universe she had created with Prestian Series and The Torzial Affair series! You can read this book as a standalone and as an opening to a new standalone series but I recommend also to read the other two series as you will enjoy learning more about the connections and relationships and … Our leading pair is Jay and Sasha – Jay is the head of the elite bodyguard/security team that protects two of the wealthiest men in the world and we met him first in the Prestian series, Sasha is this regal Russian ballerina with unexpected mafia connections that might put everyone in danger … we met her earlier in the Torzial Affair! Suen has a gift for writing compelling, thought-provoking tales. This novella kept me engaged and quite frankly kept me guessing the whole way. I found the characters to be relatable, and the plot felt much bigger than the few pages it was contained within. This mystery is one I will most heartedly recommend to others. Just a wonderful book.

The Girls Across The Bay (Knox and Sheppard #1) by Emerald O’Brien was a pretty okay read that kept me reading and engaged.
I very much got sucked into this book right away, I loved the cold open, and the way the first sister was introduced. We get to see her passion and get some dark back ground on her. Told in duel POV, we actually get inside both of the sisters heads, and I loved that the author choose to go that path. It added a nice layer of complexity that draws you in.
Now, I will say that when the sisters were together I had a bit of a time trying to separate their voices, and inner dialogue. It was hard to keep track of, and I had to do some rereading to get it all straight in my head. The transitions were a little rough, there was no break you could say, thus making the reading choppy and a little disconnecting. Sometimes the best way for transitions is to put a physical break in, like a symbol, to let the reader know that one scene has ended, before jumping into the next. Quick cut jumps only work in TV/Movies.
Other than that, I loved the plot and the mystery. It was compelling, well thought out and entertaining. I loved the sisterly connection and the strong bond they shared. It was for me the true highlight of this suspenseful read. There was wit mixed with darkness, that drives this story, and the tone has a bit of that heart pounding urgency that you can’t help but get addicted to. This book will have you on edge, and have you piecing the clues together with them. I’m fully committed to these two sisters, and I will be checking out more from not only this series, but this author as well.
With that said, this book gets my high recommendation and my stamp of approval.

I must start this review with the preface that I absolutely adore Jane Suen, and so every book of hers until this point has been a hit, 5 stars easily for me. I was a tad let down with ‘Children of The Future.’ Upon further looking at reviews and goodreads I found out this was Suen’s first novel and so things really made sense. This is on par with a first time novel from most authors and in the long run it made things easier for me to digest at the end of the day.
Children of The Future is a twisty and mysterious tale of a small town rocked by the sudden disappearance of a bus full of students and their teachers. All have gone without much of a hint as to where except one, Telly. A strong main character among many I still struggled to find his voice in this. The bus driver, also spared from the mysterious disappearing act, teams with Telly, the parents, and the police to try and figure out what happened and how to bring home the children. The trail is complicated and a tad slow, but intriguing enough to wonder what is going on and keep reading. Just as it seems they may have figured things out Telly disappears and even more shocking twists arise. Overall the ending seemed to round out the story and left me for the most part satisfied. While this isn’t a strong five star read for me I enjoyed it enough to give it a solid four stars. I look forward to seeing what else is available, as we await new stuff, from the talented Jane Suen.

Wayward by Via Mari is an excellent start to the series Billionaire Bodyguards. It is a story of romance with a little mafia/bodyguard mixed in the story. I have read other books by Via Mari and I have enjoyed those stories, so I thought I would pick this one up. I am glad I did. Her writing style is very descriptive and the characters will become part of you as you read through the story. This story is about Sasha, a Russian Ballerina who is in the US on an extended visa. She is well known for her dancing abilities, but she has secrets she does not want the public to know. Then there is Jay, who just happens to security detail for two wealthy men in the US. Jay is drawn to Sasha and does not know why exactly, as he has never felt this way before. What if anything will come of Jay and Sasha? Will Jay be able to protect his clients and will Sasha be able to let Jay into her secrets? You have just read this book for yourself to see what happens to Sasha and Jay.

The Girls Across the Bay by Emerald O’Brien if the first book in the Knox and Sheppard Mysteries series. This is an intriguing book that will keep you guessing right to the very end. From the moment I read this story I was hooked. I wanted to know what was going on and how everything was going to connect. I found myself trying to guess what I thought the outcome would be – I can definitely say I was wrong! I also felt that the book had really strong characters. Madigan and Grace were such strong characters that, for me, they definitely carried the whole book. They had such a depth to them and I really felt like I connected with them both immediately. My only niggle about this book was that it would have been nice to get fewer descriptions of the characters thoughts. Although I am one of those who absolutely loves to be able to get inside the minds of the characters I do also like to be given the chance to “fill in the blanks” so they say. I had such a strong sense of personality with the characters that I don’t think so much input was needed from the author. However, this didn’t put me off the book at all – it was just my personal preference of how I like books to be constructed – and I will certainly be reading more in this series.

The story The Girls Across the Bay (The Knox and Sheppard Mysteries Book 1) by Emerald O’Brien is a wonderful mystery book. I was hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the last page. It is a story that had me turning pages in order to find out what happens next. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Madigan Knox and Grace Sheppard. They became sisters when they lived in a foster home and a strong bond formed between them. They live through a nightmare and then they are split up. Years later they are reunited in a small coastal town. When a young woman is found dead Grace is the one that investigates the crime. What happens next opens old wounds and secrets are revealed. What happened to the young woman who was found dead? Is the bond between Grace and Madigan strong enough to withstand the rumors and secrets? How much danger are Grace and Madigan in? Read this book to find out. This is a story that takes you on a journey that keeps you guessing. The book has scenes that are intense. There is suspense and mystery. I grew to care about Grace and Madigan with each chapter that I read. They had been through so much and I couldn’t help but have empathy for them. There is also emotional moments and dialogue. Don’t miss out on a story that will have you on the edge of your seat. It is a story I would highly recommend reading.

I loved this book. I was pulled right into this story and sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. The characters as they were supportive to each other as well made me feel part of the story. Madigan and Grace were in the same foster home growing up. Now as adults their past is about to collide with their present. What happens when you can trust no but each other? The twists and turns involve suspense and murder, you don’t want to miss this book. A must read.

Children Of The Future by Jane Suen was not what I expected and the premise of the story was ok but it didn’t hit its mark with me but it is aimed with YA’s in mind. It is a YA suspense that is a quick and easy read. I note this was her first book and her writing has vastly improved with the other books I have read of hers. I found it hard to read due to the narrative but that is more my personal preference. There is a lot that I feel Jane could have written to make it even more suspenseful and give the story and characters more substance. The story starts off slow but then picks up and gains momentum but then it just stops, where I am left wondering what just happened.
Even though it wasn’t enough for me, I am sure others will enjoy it.

Wayward was a great 5 star read and book one in the Billionaire Bodyguards series. I was pulled right from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down. Jay is the head of the security team and Sasha is a ballerina from Russia.
Jay is called in to help Sasha and he’s not happy with what he finds at the club. Ever since Jay saw Sasha he’s always had a thing for her, so his protectiveness kicks in full force. When he finds out that she has ties to the Mafia and is in danger, he is determined to keep her safe.
Will Jay be able to keep her safe?
There are so many twists and turns. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was coming next and my emotions were all over the place. All of the secondary characters were great. Via Mari’s writing pulls you right in, you feel like your right there with the characters, the detail is great. I highly recommend reading this series, you will love it. I look forward to reading more from Via Mari and this series.

Wayward is not my first experience with Via Mari’s writing, it’s the first of the third series I’ve read. While it isn’t necessary to read all of the books in each series, there are characters that show up throughout each and it’s always fun to see how lives are intertwined. Via Mari has a talent for crafting hot and steamy chemistry between characters with strong storylines. I used to have a preconceived notion that if a book was sexy it couldn’t have substance too, Via Mari shatters that misconception with each book I read. I have to say I loved Wayward and it may have been my favorite Via Mari book thus far. I look forward to seeing what more is to come.

Another awesome story from Via Mari. This author does an exceptional job pulling me into her wonderfully detailed, action packed stories. This book is no exception, there is plenty of steamy, dangerous, and suspenseful moments in this read. I was happy to see that some of the characters from the Prestian series are in this series, it’s like visiting old friends. You don’t need to have read her previous series to follow this book but I do recommend reading them to enhance your experience and also because they are great books. This book is Jay and Sasha’s story and I found myself unable to put this book down as soon as I started reading it. This read is full of emotion throughout and I became completely invested in what happens with Jay and Sasha. This is a must read if you want to find out where the story goes for these two. I highly recommend this book.

This is my first book by this author and oh what a ride. Children of the Future is a book that is mysterious and scary at the same time. In this book you have the small town of Rocky Flats where a bus driver named Telly discovers all of the towns children have disappeared except for one child Billy. This book surrounds the anxiety and search for the children.This is a novella length book. I really enjoyed reading this book.

This is the third book from this author that I have read. I find that the author’s writing style is refreshing. The genre of this book is out of my comfort genre but I found it to be quite an addicting read. The suspense and mystery really kept me glued to the pages. I don’t read mysteries often but this was a nice change.
I really love Telly’s character and the part he played in the story. The way he cares for the kids is really endearing. I was really at the end of my seat as the drama and mystery played out. I found that the author had a great way of drawing out the story and the intrigue. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely be reading more from this author in the Future.
