I finished the first book eager for more, and finished this the same way. Honestly, I love this series and am excited for more. This picked up right where the first book left off and might be confusing to those that hadn’t read The Misery House. Kaia is amazing and Allison is so lucky to have a friend like her. But honestly, we knew that in book 1. However, this goes on to show just how great of a friend she is. I am already ready for book 3!

This is the second book in The House on the Hill series, and it was absolutely incredible! I love thrillers and being kept on the edge of my seat, so this seemed right up my alley. I fell into my reading groove fairly quickly with the flow of the story feeling natural. It was impossible to put down once I dove in because the suspense was killing me. I had to know what was going to happen! Kaia is an amazing character that is strong and relatable. I highly recommend picking up the first book in the series before jumping into this one as you may end up a little confused without it. I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us next!

The Silent Forest is the second book in The House on the Hill series. I do recommend reading the first book first but you can jump in with this book. Personally I think this book was even better than the first. I was glued to this story and had to stay up for just one more chapter! Again the author writes in multiple POVs which sometimes I don’t like but it really was perfect this time. I felt more connected to each character. I was glad to see this book answered some questions I had at the end of the first book, but left me with more questions! I can not wait to get my hands on the third book! If you like psychological thrillers that leave your heart racing, then go start this series today!

I grabbed this book right up after I finished the first one. And this one just like the first did not disappoint. this was another suspense building book that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reding. This book does build on from the first book so I highly recommend that you read the fist one, or you will differently be lost for sure in this book. A girl is still missing, A sheriff still not liking the whole situation, danger in every corner, secrets being exposed the maybe should have been left unsaid, and still that darn house. So, if you like not sleeping then I highly recommend this book, but be prepared for suspense, mystery, hatred, secrets, getting mad at somethings, and page turning reading then this is for you.

This book was gripping from the beginning, it has this horror like Stephen king which really made me want to read it more. Its flow to the book I really had to focus on because it did get told from different character views but other than that it was very captivating from the beginning. A new family, a house no one visits, a fire where the shop owner and son don’t make it, a sheriff just making assumptions for people he doesn’t like, animals going crazy and change people, mystery lights and so much more. This book had so much going for it that I really couldn’t put it down, I felt like I was there watching the Woods family and everything going on in the town of mystery. This book was filled with edge of your seat suspense, thriller, horror, mystery, lies, truth and some urban legends that get thrown into the mix. I highly recommend this book but read it too close to bedtime, until you like that. Diving into book 2 will be my next thing to do.

The Silent Forest is book two of David Kummer’s The House On The Hill Trilogy. David has truly mastered the subtleties and misdirection of any good psychological thriller. Not only that, but the characters are beautifully written, and really make you feel like you’ve always known them. I definitely recommend reading these in order, as the events continue just a few weeks after The Misery House ends. Looking forward to getting my hands on book 3, these cliffhangers are killing me!

The Misery House by David Kummer is the first book in The House On the Hill series, a psychological thriller, with beautiful mixes of horror and suspense. These characters were beautifully written, the setting so real I was practically right there, and the dynamics worked so well everything just fell together like a puzzle. I loved the split POV’s, this authors writing style is immaculate and will definitely leave you paranoid. I’m diving right into book 2 of this trilogy as soon as possible!!

The Silent Forest (The House on the Hill Book 2) by David Kummer. HOLY MOLY! This book was intense! Its not one to read while you are alone in the dark or you will not sleep. This is my favorite genre so I knew I would like it but I LOVED it. This book picks up right where the previous one leaves off so I do recommend reading the 1st book before this one. Its a few weeks after the first book ends and Alison is still missing but Kaia still believes she is out there. Kaia begins a search on her own and while searching she digs up some things about people in this town that they would probably rather stayed secret. Will Kaia end up putting herself in danger digging up all these secrets? The sheriff is not happy that these secrets are coming out as are several others in town. These people could be dangerous if crossed. Hang on to the edge of your seat because this book will have you jumping from the get go. Such a awesome thrilling, scary story. I can’t wait for the next one!

It takes you on a journey to find if Allison is alive or dead in the house. This page turner answers the question at the very end and leaves you needing more answers as you eagerly await the next book in this series. The feeling it leaves you with, is that there may be no happy endings here.

Misery House by David Kummer, review by Amanda Gray This novel starts right away with mystery and foreboding. Every member of the Woods’ family serves as a protagonist. The story is told through each family member, giving a more complete picture of the history in the small town and its mysterious events. The book gives Stephan King vibes, he loves to tell a creepy story from a small town. This town goes back generations, and rarely see’s newcomers. The townsfolk are not welcoming to anyone that hasn’t always been there. A large, empty house sits on a hill overlooking the town, there are many stories about the house and none of them good. As the book ends, it leaves you with unanswered questions and eager for the next one.

The Book of Fears: A Collection of Short Stories is 8 stories compiled of different people with different fears. Check your trigger warnings! A couple of stories are scary, and the others are downright creepy. Each story is short but really good by itself. I would definitely read each individual book if they ever became their own book. This is the second in the House on the Hill series and I highly recommend reading the first book before picking this one up. I didn’t and I was confused…not in a “I have absolutely no idea what’s going on here” way, but more in a “I think this has already been explained and I missed it” way. I will say the beginning of the book is slow and it takes awhile to get in to it but once it does, you won’t want to put it down. I’m definitely going to go back and read the first book so that I can fill in some of the missing pieces to the story. If you are looking for a psychological thriller that will haunt you then pick up this book (and I’m going to go ahead and say series) because you won’t want to put it down. I love how Kummer writes his characters; they are extremely relatable…like live down the road, next-door-neighbor relatable. This is the second book in The House On The Hill Series. This is a great psychological thriller with hints of horror. This is the second book and you do definately need to read book 1- The Misery House to follow the story completely.
This was a gripping read right from the start. The author really does an amazing job of writing a story that captivates a reader and doesn’t let them go. I wasn’t able the put it down and the ending and left me wanting more.
This story continues a few weeks after the 1st book. Alison is still missing and Kaia doesn’t believe she is dead. Kaia takes it upon herself to keep search and is looking everywhere to find her uncovering some old town secrets along the way. While she is searching people are going missing in the town and Sherif Wheeler is starting to struggle under the pressure. Kaia’s search takes her to speak to the one man she never wanted to see again to find answers. After leaving random clues will Malaki finally give her something that will blow this whole thing wide open? Can he even he trusted? Is Alison still alive? And what exactly is happening in New Haven?

The Book of Fears was an amazing collection of short stories about people’s fears. I love that it lists out the official name of the fear and then explains what it is at the beginning of each story. What a cool idea to get the reader excited about what the theme of the plot is going to be before the story starts. I really enjoyed the author’s excellent skill at building up each character’s personality in such a short story, they were all so dynamic, that it was easy to get invested in what was happening to them. Some of these fears are so realistic, that I had to work not to look around to see if something was going to jump out and jump scare me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves short stories that are so full of storylines that keep you on the edge of your seat, and so enraptured in each of the stories. No two stories are alike, which is even more amazing. I hope K. S. Gantt writes more books like this one because I am intrigued by the writing style, and effectiveness to put fear in me. @Brandy Rymer 06/2024

The Misery House is an excellent psychological thriller. The town of New Haven is a very small town where everyone is known, and they don’t take kindly to strangers. Strange tragedies start happening and the sheriff is looking for the culprit. The abandoned house on the hill stares down on the town and many still feel the unease of its touch. I highly enjoyed the writing style; it is chilling, and it made it hard to put the book down. The Woods family are our main narrators and each of them has a distinct thought process that helps to evolve the story. The ending is a huge cliffhanger due to the rising tension but not all questions are answered. I can’t wait to read The Silent Forest to continue the story of the Woods family.

The Silent Forest starts three weeks after The Misery House ends. There are spoilers ahead from the previous book so please read The Misery House first. The Woods family has been changed since the tragic events that occurred at the house on the hill. Nate feels that he has grown older, Kaia is trying to find her best friend, and Cliff and Naomi and struggling to keep their relationship thriving. More dark secrets are being revealed. This book kept the same unease as the first book and helped to continue the story. It borders on the edge of supernatural since most of the occurrences are unexplained this time. Some pieces are starting to fit together but now I have more questions than answers, so I need to read the third and final book in the series. I recommend this series and look forward to a satisfying conclusion.

Suspense, mystery, and Thriller in one. When a business is burned down and bodies found inside followed by a disappearance people in the small town of New Haven are looking for answers. This was part Thriller about a possible arsonist and murderer and part ghost story. It was enjoyable even if the ending left you with a multitude of questions.

I am a huge fan of anything that frightens me, so this was right up my alley. I hadn’t read anything by this author before but as soon as I saw this book, I knew I had to pick it up. I really appreciate that the author includes trigger warnings at the beginning to prepare you for what you will encounter. These stories were the perfect bite-sized length and somehow not sacrificing the quality of them. I was absolutely hooked on each and every story! I couldn’t put this down because there are no slow moments whatsoever. Each phobia that is explored is chilling and had me questioning if I have more phobias than I realized! If you enjoy horror and suspenseful short stories, do yourself a favor and pick this up. You won’t regret it!

This book wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. Not necessarily in a bad way though. So there’s eight different stories, each with different characters and different fears. None of those fears bother me, so it wasn’t what I would consider a horror book. They clearly give trigger warnings, so anyone who may be triggered by one of those fears have fair warning to skip it. I found the stories to be very quick reads and almost not enough story to them. I would be interested in reading more if they were to write on more fears. Now, all that being said, I do think they were well written. I just needed more. I will give this author another go when I find something else from her.

Book of Fears is just that, a book written about fear. Each chapter is a short story about a new phobia. Some of them I didn’t even know were phobias before reading the book. The last phobia is one I know well even if the story wasn’t based on something real, but instead something many people have discussed and wondered on for years. I myself have phobias with my biggest being coulrophobia or the fear of clowns and a fear of needles. Great stories, they would be well for campfire stories.

As always with any book, but particularly books that deal with this type of content, check trigger warnings. Your mental well-being is much more important. This is a collection of eight short stories on phobias. It was fun a quick little read. It is under 200 pages and the author does a good job on making you feel uncomfortable and go ick. But ick in a good way. I do not want to ruin anything for another reader but I will say the last story is my favorite.

It is full of tension, drama, action, mystery, intrigue and heart-pounding suspense. The author delves into fears and phobias such as the fear of death; the fear of butterflies; the fear of abandonment; the fear of cockroaches; the fear of Friday the 13th; the fear of being buried alive; the fear of snakes; and the fear of needles. Things that may seem irrational to outsiders, such as the intense fear of a butterfly, can cause intense and crippling fear in those that are terrified by the fluttering insects. The fear of abandonment can cause someone to go to terrifying lengths to ensure that those they love never abandon them. This is a collection of short stories that will send a chill down your spine. It deals with different things such as abuse and violence which may be triggering for some people.
1)Let’s go home Wolfie. This is a story of one man’s fear of abandonment and the lengths he is prepared to go to to keep the women he loves. Even if that is against her will.
2)Not In My House This is a story about a fear called Katsaridaphobia, the fear of cockroaches. This is one man’s story about how growing up in a dirty home lead him to a fear of cockroaches and the impact it has on his adult life. 4) Friday the 13th This is the story about a man who has a fear of Friday the 13th. How far will he go to protect himself from the danger he feels that date will bring?
5)Deep Thoughts This is a story about a woman who’s fear is being buried alive. Alyssa is fascinated by serial killers. She knows everything about them. In her mind she even knows how to survive and escape a killer. So what happens when she needs to put that knowledge into action? And when she is faced with the possibility of being buried alive can she keep it together enough to survive or will she have to accept her fate?
6)It’s All Fun and Games This is a story who saw death. Every time she saw him something happened and people around her died. Every time this happened her fear of him grew. But why was his killing people around her and letting her live? Is this all some sort of sick game?
7) Happy Anniversary This is a story around the fear of snakes. A married couple go away to the Florida Keys for their Anniversary. When they start to hear scratching noises they wonder what could it be? Will the a Anniversary they will never forget?
8)Have You Seen My Wallet This is the final story. When a man drives into a desert and has a strange encounter he is left with a fear of needles and no memory of what happened. With his job at a hospital how will he cope with this new fear and what happens if the truth behind his lost memories comes to light?

I liked this book because it has multiple stories. Also like the stories are short stories. It has one of my fears in it so it made it intense for me. It was such an easy and fast paced book. I recommend taking a chance on it

This was a wild roller coaster ride of a book. I was captivated by the beginning and couldn’t out this book down. There are 8 short stories in here and each one has a different phobia. This stories really put my imagination to the test and made me feel like I had each and every one of them. each story really brought to life how a phobia can affect someone’s life and what they might be going thou. I would suggest if you’re not into a little goosebumps and horror ish then don’t read this book before bed. It was really edge of your seat read,

The Book Of Fears by K.S. Gant is a dreadfully creepy collection of short stories. There are trigger warnings for each of the 8 stories, so make sure you check those before diving in! These short stories each correspond with a phobia at the start, to give you a hint on what to prepare for, so it was also educational for me because I was unfamiliar with a few of them! I loved how genuinely creeped out i got while reading these, K.S. knows exactly how to get in you head, and under your skin! I definitely recommend not only this collection, but the author as a whole! I think I’ve just found my new favorite horror author!

In this follow up story to The Misery House, Allison has been missing for awhile and everyone is starting to give up. That is, except for Kaia. Questions we’ve had burning in our minds are finally getting answered but they also lead to more questions, more mysteries, more missing people, and a whole lot of deep dark buried secrets.
This one is a bit chilling right from the get go. It is slow in some areas in the beginning but quickly picks up and then you won’t be able to put it down until you’re done. This one will stick with you for a bit while you digest all that’s happened and wonder if there will be a continuation to this story!
