Well I was not expecting this book to be as dark as it was. Not in a bad way either. The story follows Troy as he has to come to terms with some evil in his life. Not only the evil at home but childhood bullies he now works with. Add in a crazy ex girlfriend turned stalker and you have a wonderful crime story!

Troy battles his own demons after seeing a crime at the hands of his father. After working with his childhood bullies and hearing what they do in chatrooms to various men he plots a plan of revenge. All while taking care of his father that he is keeping alive because of a threat he grew up with.

This book was hard to put down once I started it because it sucks you in from the very beginning! I love crime novels and this one was not a disappointment at all! In fact I was expecting a different ending!

This story has several different twists that were perfect for the storyline and this won’t be the last book from this author I read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So this is book 3. However, I haven’t read the first two books and I was just fine.
I was a bit confused in some parts. But over all I had my nose stuck in this book til I finished! I read it in a few hours. I just couldn’t stop! It was like watching a good TV series (in my head of course haha) that I didn’t want to get up and go potty because I would miss the important parts!
The way that this is written, you feel like it will cool off and give you a 10 second break and then you very quickly see how wrong you are!

Real Movie Hero (Green Brotherhood: SEAL Team XII Book 2) by Debra Parmley – Review by Jenni Bishop

Real Movie HeroReal Movie Hero by Debra Parmley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Real Movie Hero is a SEAL Team romance read! The only issue I have with these books are that the stories are over before they get really, really good and are far too short. That doesn’t mean I don’t like them because I do.
With suspense and action, intrigue and danger, tension angst, chemistry and fierce passion and determination there is enough to keep the pages turning. A fierce protector SEAL man who wants what he wants.
Who doesn’t like a real life movie hero? You will have to read it to find out. No spoilers here.
I have said it before but I will say it again, if you enjoy sexy, strong, heroic men then grab copies of the Green Brotherhood: SEAL Team XII series as they have it all.

Chatroom With A View by Glenn Maynard – Review by Vanessa Watts

Chatroom With A ViewChatroom With A View by Glenn Maynard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a first for me by author Glenn Maynards but I was definitely intrigued after reading the synopsis. I mean who hasn’t heard of Lizzie Borden and the axe murders. It is intriguing to wonder if there really could be a gene passed down that makes you predetermined to be a serial killer or monster. I mean there are genes for every other disease including psychological ones, it definitely could make you lose sleep at night.

Troy witnesses things in his lifetime that no one should have to, including the abuse of his father and death of his mother. Even though he could sense it was coming it just became another dark notch in his life. He decides not to call the police and instead keep his father alive and locked up in the house. Then enter Veronica with another life twist for Troy, she is pregnant with his baby. With such a small town and the dysfunctional family life of Troy, Veronica decides to do some research into Troy’s past and what she finds terrifies her. Can Veronica protect their baby from the evilness that is passed down in Troy’s family? Can Troy break the cycle or is he doomed to follow the same path of his ancestors?

The book is a well thought out, well written psychological thriller that will keep you turning pages to find out what happens next and may make you not want to sleep at night. The characters are well written and the storyline is easy to follow even though there sometimes seems to be several strands to pull until everything is unraveled. After reading this book I am intrigued to read other books by this author and cannot wait to see what other journey I can go on.

Straight for the Kill (Benoit and Dayne Mystery Book 3) by Winter Austin – Review by Megan Conley

Straight for the Kill (Benoit and Dayne Mystery, #3)Straight for the Kill by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd installment in the Benoit and Dayne Mystery Books; however, it can be read as a standalone (I did) without any pertinent information being missed. I was hooked from the first chapter and this was just escape I was looking for this weekend! I couldn’t put this book down and I was on the edge of my seat. We follow the story of Elizabeth Benoit, who’s now the county sheriff, and Lila Dayne, the Deputy Detective who also happens to be the girlfriend of a 25-year-old murder victim’s brother (very important to the story :)) This is a fast-paced, action-packed story that kept me turning the pages long after I should have been in bed.

Absolution by Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray – Review by Christie Mitchum

AbsolutionAbsolution by Anise Storm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Absolution is a dark romance with bits of mystery and paranormal elements woven throughout.

Dominic was from the wrong side of the tracks according to his young girlfriend’s father. He would never be good enough for her, but Dominic didn’t care. He was in love with the beautiful Juliana Rutherford. It appeared that they had a bright future ahead of them despite her father, that is until she disappeared after arguing with Dominic. Of course, he is accused of the crime until nearly two years later, he is found not guilty, but he was still in prison while awaiting trial. The one thing that got him through those dark times was revenge and making Juliana’s father pay for trying to ruin his life.

Whitney Greene lives a pretty good life, but she has a secret that she keeps trying to run from. She has psychic abilities that she tries to deny. Yet, one ghost just won’t leave her alone, and that happens to be Juliana. She needs to reach Dominic and give them closure so that they can both move on. Whitney is the key. She just has to get her to listen.

When Whitney first meets Dominic for the first time, it doesn’t go well AT ALL! He accuses her of being Juliana and helping her father in trying to destroy him. Yeah, Juliana failed to mention to Whitney that they both look exactly alike. Not only is Juliana’s father on his revenge list, but now Whitney is. She somehow has to convince him she isn’t his first love and get Juliana’s message across to him.

If you are looking for a sweet romance, this one isn’t for you. It’s dark, but Anise Storm still managed to tap into my emotions as well. Dom was not someone I easily liked at first. I admired him for his tenacity and strength. However, he had a coldness and darkness to him, and I could somehow understand that because of what happened to him. So, seeing him melt a little with Whitney actually helped me like him a lot more by the end of the book. He is the quintessential alpha male.

I liked Whitney from the very beginning, and some of my favorite chapters were her chapters. I enjoyed seeing her learn to use her newfound powers. It was a bit reminiscent of the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, but Anise Storm made this her own heroine and her own story. I can’t not mention Juliana. She was a character in her own right. In the beginning chapters, I wasn’t such a fan of hers either. I felt like she didn’t love Dom in the way in which he deserved to be loved. However, there were layers that still would be revealed about her throughout the book as well. It just goes to show that I should never judge a character at the beginning of a book.

The plot was fast-paced. As I said, there was some darkness to it. There is a lot of sexual content, but I actually enjoyed the twists and turns with the paranormal elements more than I enjoyed anything else.

If you are looking for a book that is a quick read with some darkness and a lot of spice, along with some GREAT twists and turns, this is just the book for you.

While I read this book as a stand-alone, it is book 3 in the series, it it didn’t make or break the story/book for me. This was a titillating suspense/murder story. It provides all of the elements of an amazing murder mystery: unsolved murder case being brought back years later, relationships to the victims, personal vendettas, and the forever sought after twist! This is definitely a strong, ‘can’t put this down’ book.

I don’t know if I have ever wanted to shake a character I just met so much in my life!!! There’s gullible and then there’s just dumb. Sam Crawford was definitely not blessed with the brains even if she thinks she can act. The ending of this book definitely had me doing a quick double take. I did not expect the last chapter, so that was cool twist to a very dark book. The writing was good and the book was easy to read – the character is just mentally exhausting to follow.

This is a dark, fast paced, psychological thriller that will leave you terrified to sleep with the lights off. While there isn’t much background information I found the information that was given just enough to read through the story without focusing too much on the why. If you have unresolved issues with abuse or alcoholism that can be triggered you should not read this book. If you love the dark side of life or enjoy the darker side of things this book is for you.

Dominic tragically loses the love of his life and then gets framed for her disappearance. Although he is eventually cleared of charges, he becomes obsessed in finding what truly happened to Juliana and who is responsible for her death. Then he meets a girl named Whitney, who is the spitting image of Juliana. When Whitney tells him she was sent by the ghost of Juliana, Dominic doesn’t believe her.

I won’t mention and spoilers but Dominic, Whitney and Juliana are entangled in this crazy, suspenseful, mysterious threesome as they all try to figure out the truth behind all the lies and deception. It’s a hot, romantic, mysterious, sometimes triggering story to get lost in.

Oh my gosh…. LOVED THIS BOOK

The depth of each character was dripping from the pages. I went through every trial and tribulation, happiness, deep revenge and so so much more. I’d love to read about these characters again and see where the authors take them.

Dominic has gone from the wrong side of the tracks to a highly influential business man. He has one thing on this mind and that is revenge. He won’t stop until he gets it. His one love Juliana is gone and assumed dead but no body has ever been found. Dominic finds himself in jail for her murder.

A twist of fate has Whitney Green, a marketing agent, in the sights of Dominic when they accidentally cross paths. Whitney is dealing with some unexplained phenomena. She is hearing a voice in her head.

This story will keep you reading and won’t lose your interest at all. Please make a book 2.

I picked to read this book based on the synopsis and I’m kind of happy I picked it. I read a lot and like to mix up genres so things don’t get stale. I’m positive this book will surprise you.

Dominic is from the guy from the “wrong side of the tracks” who falls in love with Juliana Rutherford, a girl from an affluent family. When Juliana goes missing, her father accuses Dominic and put in jail even though Dominic had nothing to do with Juliana going missing. What will Dominic do once he is out of jail and working on revenge?

The authors did a great job of world building. The story kept my attention with the twists and turns. There is drama, revenge, and so much more. The characters are well written too and in an odd way, it was easy to connect with them.

It was good to read a different kind of “romance” book to read for a change. Hope you like it too.

This book is absolutely dark and twisted. Dominic loves Juliana and only wants to give her the world but on the night of one of their worst fights she disappears and her dad convinces everyone that Dominic is the one that had her killed. Dominic bets on himself and wins his verdict of not guilty though having spent years behind bars and he comes out a hate filled man bent on revenge.

Just when it seems everything is falling into place for his revenge on Grant Juliana’s father, the man who had him arrested, in walks Whitney. Who just so happens to be the spitting image of Juliana and waltzes back into his life at what seems to be too big of a coincidence. Now Whitney is working on using her gift to convince Dominic that she is not Juliana. What extremes is Whitney willing to go to for this mysterious voice in her head? Can Dominic separate the woman he once loved from Whitney who just wants to help Juliana?

There are so many dark, twisted spots in this book that I almost cringed reading them. If you like dark and twisty romance novels then this may be right up your alley. Be forewarned though that this book is dark, with a huge emphasis on dark and their are some big trigger events that occur that may not be for everyone!

This book packs some heat and had an interesting storyline, but it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. What is it with women falling for men who treat them like crap? There was this sexual tension with some BDSM elements, but I found it difficult to get into because of the way Whitney allowed others to treat her. If you’re mostly just looking for something steamy to read with some kink mixed in, this fits the bill. Otherwise, I felt like the story and characters were a bit flat.

Absolution by Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray – Review by Jessica Stone

This book threw me for a complete loop! I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but how interesting! This is a lovers to enemies to lovers? Mystery, romance, suspense, spooky, …honestly I’m not even what genre to label it but spicy masterpiece.

Dominic was dealt a pretty bad hand in life, always working multiple jobs for what he needs from a young age, the one bright light in his life was Juliana, that is until one terrible night Juliana goes missing. She’s presumed dead, and Dominic is blamed for her murder After spending some time in jail, Dominic is aquifer and released but when he gets out he has one thing on his mind, revenge for those that have wronged him, and taken everything from him. That is, until he meets her…
Whitney is just a normal girl, works a good job, content with her life, that is until one strange day she starts hearing a voice inside her head, and that voice is begging her for help.

Without giving away too much this story just dives right into the deep end, I was a little hesitant at first but within the first few pages I fell in love with the characters. I’ve laughed and she’s a few tears, the emotions that the characters, Dominic, specifically feel in this book are gut wrenching. Let’s be real Dominic and Whitney’s connection is so fierce it’s palpable, had me blushing more than a few times and sighing with happiness by the end of this story.

What a Wonderful read.

I found this book to be intriguing and entertaining. This is a dark romance with anger, heartache, mystery, drama, love, paranormal aspects, and more. Dominic and Juliana are in love and dream of a future together but everything falls apart when she goes missing and he is accused of murdering her. Dominic wants revenge on the man that put him in jail and he works for many years for his revenge to be possible.
Whitney who has special gifts and is hearing a voice that needs her help and that’s how her and Dominic meet which does not go well, mainly because she looks exactly like Juliana. This story kept me turning pages wondering where the story was taking me and how it would end. There are twists and turns and if you want to know how it ends then you must read it. Twists and turns in the story make for a steamy mystery of a young girl’s life and death. This story was captivating and had me guessing most of the story. Everyone needs their closure when things end abruptly and little did Dominic know how much he needed Whitney to be able to find his peace and a future of his own instead of being tied to his past.

It is mysterious, paranormal, and romantic. Even though we expect HEA most of the time, there were times that I didn’t really know how the couple would get there. I will warn that there are some dark moments, but I felt overall the book was great. I found the plot to be quite original and that was refreshing. A few times I did not expect the turn of events. This was a really gripping read. The twists and turns in this book had my head spinning and completely took me by surprise. The author writes in a way that you really get to feel every emotion that the lead character goes through. Her childhood is traumatic and she seems easily taken advantage of. Sam’s naivety really leads her into some dangerous and scary situations as she finds her way in life.
I also like how the author starts at the present day with her little boy going missing before going back and telling us the tale of how she got to this situation in the first place.
Sam leaves her past behind her and moves to LA to become an actress. However her plans aren’t working out how she wants. That is until she meets Corey.
Corey is a charmer, he sweeps her off her feet and promises her everything she desires in return he wants her to have a baby.
And so begins the twisted tale but when she is left alone but imprisoned its not the dream she imagined.
Fast forward 4 years later and her little boy goes missing. Is this Corey finally making the exchange complete? Who is really the bad guy in this tale?
This book was great in that you don’t know who to trust, who to believe and who is the actual mastermind and who is the person dragged along for the ride.

Spicy, dark, and twisted is what is in store with this book. Dominic was arrested for a crime he didn’t commit but after almost 18 months waiting in jail, he was finally found innocent. He makes a good life for himself in LA with his motivation of getting revenge. Whitney has a gift that she doesn’t really want. When she seeks out Dominic to give him a message from the great beyond, she is the one in for a surprise. She is a dead ringer for the woman he was accused of killing, he wants answers. The spice in this book will definitely keep you warm on a cold winter’s night.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read by Glenn Maynard, and I was not disappointed. As a fan of true crime and history in that sense the synopsis intrigued me with the ties to Lizzie Borden. The synopsis mentions that the book starts with an episode and lord does it.
The perspective of the book is that of Troy Cullen a distant relative of Lizzie Borden. He is an only child and is currently 24 years old, only he still lives at home. Not because he can’t afford to move out but because his father is extremely violent and abusive and Troy lives to protect his mother. Until that day, returning home from work both of their cars are in the driveway which is strange but after searching the entire house he can’t find or hear any of them until he looks out a window into the back yard. On the family property was an old log cabin that was usually locked up like Fort Knox, having never seen anyone inside it the sight of movement draws Troy’s attention when he witnesses a tragedy, he always feared but knew was coming. Only after a lifetime of being told he would go to prison if something ever happened, he decides not to call the police but to coverup everything and keep his father alive and bound in the house. Life brings another twist when he learns that his ex-girlfriend is pregnant with his child. Being such a dysfunctional family in their small-town Veronica decides to dig into his family history, afraid she becomes determined to shield her unborn child from the evilness that lives within the family and genetics, but will it be enough?
Will Troy follow in his ancestors’ footsteps? What will happen to Veronica and their baby? Can Troy break the cycle or is he doomed to forever be a monster? Becoming his father was never his goal but now he sees a monster is within him too. The world the author builds, the characters and scenarios are realistic and have meat too them. Being well fleshed out and three dimensional I found myself holding my breath is several places and rushing to finish the chapter to start the next. This book keeps you on your toes guessing what will happen next and how it will end.
