Revenge Never Rests (Tallie Brown Suspense Book 2) by Laurie Lewis – Review by Mandy Ott

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Revenge Never Rests is the second book in the Tallie Brown Suspense Series. I did read the first book so I felt that I had all the necessary backstory for this book. If you haven’t read the first book in the series (Secrets Never Die), I highly recommend doing so before diving into this one. Laurie Lewis continues Tallie’s story shortly after the events in the first book. There are several returning characters in this book and, again, Lewis delivers unusual yet realistic, humanized characters. This book follows Tallie in the search for her missing father, Cai Kaswell, along with several other missing persons. While this book has many twists and turns like the first book, I felt this one was a little faster paced, which I enjoyed. Overall, this book is on par, if not higher, than the first book! I look forward to reading more books by Laurie Lewis!

Tallie Brown has discovered that she is not who she was raised to believe she was. The woman who raised her taught her how to simply disappear. In this suspenseful book, Tallie must use all of her skills to figure out how people are disappearing never to be seen again. I was hooked from the very beginning.

Laurie Lewis delivers an amazing suspense novel with Secrets Never Die. I was on the edge of my seat the entirety of the novel. While the characters were diverse and often unusual, they were realistic and believable. I found myself completely invested in and rooting for Tallie in her search for the answers regarding her past. The world building in Secrets Never Die is amazing. I felt like I was transported to small town Cutler’s Ridge and the surrounding mining communities. There are a lot of connections to follow, but it wasn’t too difficult. There were so many twists and turns, and changes in the story that it kept me interested and entertained in a way I haven’t been in a while. I can’t wait to read the second book in this suspense series!

In a continuation from the first book in this series, the story brings us back to where it was left off from the first. Learning how strong of a woman Tallie is, despite her unusual and mysterious upbringing, she continues on her own mission in seeking the truth. As she recently discovers who her father, General Cai Kaswell, is considered missing and embarks on a journey to find him and get more questions answered.
Just as the first book, this book is such a great read and keeps you on your toes with action and mystery. Not only is the action and suspenseful aspects of the book amazing but the concept of friendship and valuing its integrity. Such a great series!

This is the second book I have read by Laurie Lewis and is the second book in the Tallie Brown Suspense. A continuation of the first book Secrets Never Die, following the loss of her mother and learning about the secrets that sent her on the run for most of her life.
I enjoyed this fast-paced suspense book! A lot of the stuff in this book felt like it was ripped from today’s headlines. The action and intrigue really drew me in, and I found it hard to put down. It’s a race against time as Tallie Brown is trying to find her father whom she recently discovered and is now missing. One of the biggest twists of the first book is that her mother Julia wasn’t her biological mother and kidnapped her. Despite the dubious circumstances in which she was raised. Tallie learns of a missing girl that she uses the skills she learned while on the run with her mother to help find not only the missing girl but all the missing people. Tallie can thank Julia for everything she taught her about tracking, self-defense, etc. as it comes in handy as the story progresses.

This is the first book I have read by Laurie Lewis. The synopsis drew me in but from page one I was hooked. At first, I was very confused on what was going on and honestly thought I started the 2nd book first by mistake.
It begins in Julia’s point of view, her being in 2014 but still running and hiding from the secrets of her past in 1993. Her one thing that she thought she could do, raising a normal child as a fugitive, until her name starts getting flagged and she receives a call from her handler. After seven seemingly normal years everything comes back in a rush leaving Tallie all alone with the mystery of who her mother was.
What is the Mogadishu incident? What does Julia have to do with it? Why have they been on the run most of Tallies’ life? The world that the author builds submerge the reader in the world. Drawing you into the story and wanting to keep reading to learn the secrets that led to Julia’s death. I made it through this book in one day and can’t wait to start the second book, Revenge Never Rests, to see what happens next in Tallie Brown’s story.

This novel is full of action and suspense. One of those types of stories that will keep you going from beginning to end. Tallie Brown is a girl whose life was led in how her mother deemed and when her mother passes away, Tallie is left to pick up the pieces where she can. As far as she can remember, she has moved from place to place and after her mother’s untimely death, around her 20s, she has found herself in the Pacific Northwest.
Another character, Jackson James, a journalist has made a big mistake and must now pay for it. In the midst of changing a storyline, his path is led to Cutler’s Ridge, a failing Virginia coal town and ends up meeting Tallie. Both loners and led by untrustworthy pasts have intertwined their paths. As truths and mysteries are unraveled, unexpected circumstances occur and nothing is stopping them from discovering what they need to know. Great read and keeps you engaged in what will happen next.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is set shortly after the first book in the series. A lot happens in the first book. To understand the characters better, read the first book before this one.

Tallie Brown is still grieving the loss of her mother as well as what will never be (the loss of her biological mother and sister) when she gets news that the father she cannot claim, Cai Kaswell, is missing she jumps at the chance to find him. Seeing as Tallie has a unique skill set, Major Norris knows that she will be a huge asset and welcomes her aboard. This mission brings Tallie into a bigger conspiracy than they thought. Not only is Cai missing, so are many others.

The clues bring the group to Mexico where Tallie is introduced to Burke, the agent on the case. Instantly Tallie does not trust him. She has to learn to work with him while trying to keep things from getting personal for her. Nothing is adding up and Tallie doesn’t know who to trust.

Memories of Tallie’s past with her mother keep her on her toes. She was raised to look at everything and trust no one but it’s hard when it’s your fathers life on the line.

She also has to overcome her feelings of not being good enough if she wants to keep her new found relationship alive.

This book was great. It sucks you in right from the beginning. Compared to the first book it is much more fast paced. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store next time.

This is book 2 in a series. I did not read book 1. While it was good as a stand alone, I think it would be better for the backstories to read book 1 first. In this book we meet Tallie. She is a strong woman character who is on the search for the answer to the disappearance of a missing girl and then of a General Kaswell. Jackson and Tallie have a strong connection and have to make a decision as to whether they should work together or separately. This happens just as she discovered who her real father is.
Throughout this story, there is intrigue, conspiracy and high action. It kept my attention and was a good read on a really long car ride over the holidays. If you like this type of genre, you would rate it much higher than a three.

This book is the second in a series. I did not read the first book, and I was able to follow along just fine. There was some struggle to get everyone straight, but nothing I wouldn’t have expected. My favorite part of this book was that it was clean and didn’t have the F word on every page. That was incredibly refreshing especially paired with a great story! Tallie Brown is a strong female character with completely relatable doubts and issues. I enjoyed hearing her thoughts and reservations. This book is worth the time to read. I look forward to reading more from this author!

This is the follow up story to Secrets Never Die. I definately recommend reading that book first as this book picks up straight from where that one ends.
This story is such a gripping rollercoaster of a read full of even more secrets and lies than the first book. The author does an amazing job with this story making it a gripping read right from the beginning.

Tallie is back and struggling to come to terms with everything that has happened to her. Not only is she dealing with the grief of losing her mother (or so she thought) she also has to deal with the lies and deception that surrounded her life and took her away from her real family. When Tallie’s real father goes missing she is asked to use the skills she learnt to help find him.

As the story progresses we learn more about Tallie’s past and her relationship with the woman she thought was her mother. Now Tallie is on her own and surrounded by people who she doesn’t know if she can trust or not and I have to admit my opinions on those people changed several times and I was in for a few surprises.

This is a great mystery Suspense story that will keep you hooked from the first page to the last. The twists and turns are so good you don’t see it coming until it happens which is an amazing thing in a book.

Definately read the first book and then prepare to have your mind blown when you dive into this one to continue Tallie’s story.

I dove head first into this book. I did not read the first, but you do not need to in order to read this book. However, I plan on going and reading the first as soon as I can get my hands on it because WOW! This book was intense to the very last page. The plot and characters suck you in immediately and I found it difficult to put down.

The romance between Tallie and Jackson is one that gives you hope along the way. It was also a very relatable relationship. If you enjoy a good suspense, mystery, and romance novel, then this one is for you. Whether you pick up this one first or you pick up the first in the series, you need to get your hands on this novel.

Tallie has been running for most of her life which has given her certain skills which is now helping her trying to locate a missing girl but will trying to find this lost child bring up secrets from the past which Tallie is not ready to open or seek.

This book in the second in the series and I have to confess that I had not read the first book, although this can be read as a stand-alone book, I believe I was missing certain important information by not reading the first book, but this did not distract from the overall story.

I loved the character of Tallie, how broken she was but had it in her heart to try and help the thousands of missing people with her history and skills. I loved the twists in the story and the relationships between all the characters, the story was engaging and drawn me, I could not put it down.

I can’t wait to read the first book in this series and other books going forward.

Audri has known Remington for years. He is her brother’s best friend. So, he should be off limits… but she has harbored a HUGE crush on him for as long as she can remember. When he buys the company she is currently working for, could it be fate stepping in to push them together?

Remington has always been drawn to Audri from the moment he met her. However, he won’t cross the line to pursue anything because it goes against the bro code. But when her life is threatened and it seems like someone is gunning for her, he can’t help his overwhelming desire to protect what he considers his. Can he hold the line and just protect? Or will he lose his heart to someone who can help make him whole?

This is my first time reading this author and I genuinely enjoyed it! There’s an overarching mystery that is playing out over this series, a crime the 5 male friends witnessed in their teens. They think they can ignore it and it won’t bother them and theirs, but they are mistaken as it starts to pull in the loves of their lives. The set up for this mystery was done well, in my opinion. I liked how things are mentioned in passing and then become bigger later on in the book. There were some twists that I didn’t see coming and it kept me reading.

Looking forward to the rest of the books in this series!

Revenge Never RestsRevenge Never Rests by Laurie L.C. Lewis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Revenge Never Rests is the 2nd book in the Tallie Brown series. It picks up shortly after the first book finished, which I was happy for. Tallie had a bomb of information dropped on her in the end of the first book, and she is still sorting it all out. There is a bit of struggle, as she tries to compartmentalize her life. The book had a good recap of the information from book one, although not the full story… enough as a refresher. Likely couldn’t be enjoyed without reading the first book. This book was much more clear, and written better than the first. I really like the characters of these series and the author did a good job of representing Tallie’s (and sometimes Jackson’s) feelings. There is so much suspense in this book, and it is action packed. I like that Tallie continued to refer back to her childhood teachings, despite the new heartbreak and inner struggle she is weighing. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I look forward to more from the author.

Secrets Never Die is the first book in the Tallie Brown series. The book is pretty complex and has a complicated storyline. In the beginning I was really confused, and struggled to follow the story. The characters don’t seem to be related, and made it hard to understand what was going on. However, stick it out… it comes together, and all makes sense in the end. Still, a very complex story, but it was really good. I didn’t really like how Jackson’s story was revealed… the whole book, it seemed like we were missing details from a previous story. There was a lot of references to a previous event without much back story. Tallie is a really amazing girl, with so many skills and a tough life. I felt bad for her but also was very impressed by her. I hope the 2nd book continues the relationships that were developed in the end of this book. First read by this author, but I will be reading more.

Fast paced barely cuts it with “Revenge Never Rests” as the book starts with an Amber Alert and never lets up! There are so many events that truly keep you reading until you reach the last page.

Although this book can be read as a standalone, I suggest reading “Secrets Never Die” first.

Pay attention to detail, expect the unexpected, keep your head down, trust no one, and watch everything. Tallie use her skills that her mother, Julia, taught her. But can she keep the level of expertise needed to save her father or will she get in her own way? Tallie needs to find her father as he is her tie to a life she was never able to live.

If you like suspense and quick moving plots with great characters, then Revenge Never Rests is for you!

Secrets Never DieSecrets Never Die by Laurie L.C. Lewis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tallie Brown has been isolated her whole life. It was just herself and her mother. They kept to themselves and Julia raised Tallie all by herself. When Julia suddenly dies, Tallie is left with a choice. Start over under a new identity or uncover secrets from the past and find out who she really is. Tallie chose the latter. That choice brings her to a small town called Cutler’s Ridge. The townsfolk are not too keen on outsiders. As Tallie uncovers more clues about her mother’s past, it leaves her with even more questions than answers.

Meanwhile Jackson James is sent to Cutler’s Ridge to uncover a possible scandal. What started as a simple investigation job, quickly turned into something much more difficult. He meets Tallie and they band together to uncover both secrets.

This book was very complex and involved. Mystery, drama, a hint of romance, this book had it all. Twists and turns around every corner. Everything seems connected but why and how? Plus the ending was so surprising.

Book 2 in the Tallie Brown Suspense Series Revenge Never Rests, picks up pretty much where book 1 left off. Tallie knows who she really is now! Knows Julia lied to her! Knows she can’t tell her real father who she is because it could cause more harm than good. How does one live like that?
Well by continuing to be the person she was trained to be. Julia may have taken her from her family, but she trained her well in tracking and survival.
Paired together as somewhat of a team Tallie and Jackson take positions working for soon to be Ambassador Kaswell. However before they can start those jobs he disappears. Looks like he was taken, until Tallie evaluates the situation and realizes it’s bigger than that. Tallie is thrown into a mission with Major Norris and his daughter Marlene to track General Kaswell down. While Jackson has been left to work the press circuit to keep things at bay. Unfortunately Tallie and Jackson don’t feel comfortable on how this situation is panning out, nor do they feel comfortable that they are apart figuring it out.
Do they find General Kaswell?
Does he know the truth about Tallie?
The author wrote a fantastic follow-up to Secrets Never Die. The puzzle is what keeps me intrigued, trying to figure out what happened and what’s going on along with Tallie. The writing helps too, since it’s written extremely well. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite work as a standalone novel. You need to read book 1 first, but trust me when I say you will be happy that you did!
If you like puzzles and suspense this book and series is for you! Now while you get on that, I’m going to look up other books by this author to check out!!

Secrets Never DieSecrets Never Die by Laurie L.C. Lewis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Do you enjoy puzzles? How about puzzles with some suspense thrown in? That’s what makes this book fun and intriguing. Secrets Never Die is a well written and intriguing suspenseful mystery. Bringing together two people in a town who doesn’t take too kindly to visitors. The author wrote a slew of excellent characters but the growth of the main two throughout it is beautiful to behold.
Tallie recently set out to find answers. The woman she knew as mom passed on, but leaves behind a note for her to choose. 1 to just move on and forget that passed. Then the 2nd was to look for answers, however she might like what she finds on the other side.
Jackson is a washed up reporter, who feels like he’s been set up on a wild goose chase. Little does he know he’s been thrown a curveball that could make or break his career completely. Being led byCutler Ridge on a hunch, turns out to be so much more. Dealing with the townsfolk was a different story, they give you a hard time and don’t want to answer questions about the mystery surrounding their town.
When Jackson meets Tallie they are at odds, misjudging each other, but due to the growth they soon discover they need to work together to get the answers they need.
For Tallie, who is my family?
What did my mother mean to this town?
For Jackson, it’s why I was sent here?
How will this get my career back on track?
These characters fit all kinds of molds which makes the book quirky vs all the mystery. I loved the intrigue of the puzzle and the government conspiracy suspense. It made for a very fantastic read. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Tallie Brown has lived a life cloaked in lies. She just learned about those lies though and now there is more trouble. Tallie responds to an Amber Alert about a missing child and after securing the child, life gets pretty interesting. It’s discovered that the Amber Alert was a set up and that there were Somalian operatives after Tallie for her connections to other people. Can she escape their clutches and save General Kaswell in the process?

This book grabbed me from the get-go and didn’t want to let go! This story is full of adventure, love, redemption, and mystery. All great elements to put together this telling of Tallie’s life. From the opening notes, the author mentions how she wrote this book during a time of turmoil in our country and those elements are scattered throughout. Such a beautiful book that can be read as a stand-alone, however it is the second book in a series. I will be going back to read the first book as I missed it! There are details that will likely be cleared up by reading the first book.

Please don’t skip over the opportunity to read this great book!

This is Book 2 of the incredible tale of Tallie Brown. I never read the first book but I’m now a convert and huge fan of this author. The characters are rich and their growth is quite refreshing.

Tallie has baggage and an extremely complex background that she struggles to hide from herself and others. The pain of loss, the confusing secrets unveiled because of the loss, new relationships and a scary new mission with ties closer to home.

If you enjoy mystery, adventure, drama and suspense, you’ll enjoy this book.  It was a page-turner.
