I love a good forbidden romance, and brothers best friends always tend to be those.
Audri and Remi were hot together. Remi was an Alpha by far who always had his eyes on Audri even when they were younger. Audri was independent, intelligent, and a fierce woman. This book was a suspense tale that had lust, romance, intrigue, and thrills at every angle. I loved the characters and enjoyed every element of the unexpected the author threw in.

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a new author with her first book and I’m very happy that I chose to take a chance on this author, as I’ll definitely be reading more of their work and I can’t wait for the next book in the series. The characters are well written and their quirks make them feel real. The plot was also great.
Ellawyn Calloway is finally able to breathe a little easier after leaving her old life behind. Quimby Grove, Pennsylvania is the perfect place for a fresh start and Starlight Books, a quaint bookstore café where she spends all her time. She develops a friendship with the elderly shop owner, Benji.
Benji requests that his grandson, Beckett Walden, return to Quimby Grove for a visit and everything changes. When Ellawyn learns of a threat to Starlight Books, she doesn’t think twice, offering to help Beckett run the store. She finds herself letting her guard down piece by piece. As her walls fall away, she finds herself with a stalker and now is in more danger than she ever imagined. As Ellawyn and Beckett begin to find love within each other, they are oblivious to the real danger that is lurking in the shadows, desperate to get Ellawyn alone.
Can Ellawyn and Beckett overcome the obstacles? Can Beckett help Ellawyn? Will they get a happily ever after or will tragedy strike?

This is a fantastic contemporary romance that I totally lost myself in and loved reading. This was a new author to me and I’m very glad that I chose to take a chance on this book, as I’ll definitely be reading more of their work. In particular, I’m looking forward to reading more from this series.
One thing I don’t comment on much when writing reviews is the book cover. But this book has the very handsome Kamil Nizinski on the cover and that is always a plus point for me. Hero of the book, Beckett’s description matches that of cover model Kamil, so I was able to imagine just how Beckett looks when reading this. A very nice vision to have.
As characters, I adored Ellawyn (Ellie) and Beckett. I also have to add that I totally fell in love with Benji too. His role I the book is just as important, if not more important, than Beckett and Ellie.
This book had everything you need. I laughed and I cried. There is romance and sexy times but there is also drama and danger. The story just pulls you in and doesn’t let you go. I really can’t wait to see what this author has next for the residents of Quimby Grove.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I didn’t need another series to occupy my time but I found one anyways. The author had me entranced from the prologue. I am looking forward to Max finding his love.

Ellawyn is on the run. She decided to settle in a small town in the middle of nowhere to see if she could live again, under the radar. When Ellawyn rolled into town the Starlight Books called to her. Upon entering the store, she met Benji, the owner. Benji is a sweet old man that is replacing the family Ellawyn had to leave behind. When Benji reveals some extremely private information to Ellawyn, he tells her that his grandson would be coming into town to help him. Ellawyn had no idea the profound ways her friendship with Benji would affect her life.

Beckett has built a successful business outside of Quimby Grove. Except for his grandfather and Starlight Books, he is not even sure that it is home anymore. Beckett discovers that his grandfather spends time with a mysterious woman who camps out all day in the book store. Beckett is pulled towards her like a magnet. Can Beckett’s friendship be enough to pull Ellawyn out of the ashes of her former life?

Amazing start to a brand new series. Laughs, Love, Mystery, and just enough steam. Count me in for the next Ice Festival!!

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is book one of the series. I could NOT put this book down!

Ellawyn arrived in Quimby Grove haunted by her past. That’s where she found Starlight Books. Everyday she goes to Starlight Books and spends all day soaking up the feeling of safety she feels from the store and from Benji. Benji confides in Ellawyn that he’s sick and his grandson will be coming home. Little does Ellawyn know, meeting Beckett will change everything. Beckett doesn’t know exactly what he’s getting into when he goes home to Quimby Grove. He has no idea that his visit might just extend longer than he thinks. When he sees Ellawyn, he finds it odd that she spends the entire day at the store but also acknowledges that there is something magnetic about her. Ellawyn and Beckett start spending a lot of time together but something sinister is lurking. Will they be able to rely on each other and make it through the trials ahead?

I absolutely loved this book! I cried, I laughed, I loved. I don’t have enough great things to say about this story. Ellawyn is strong and brave and Beckett, while he is a fixer, recognizes her need to be a bit independent as well. These characters have incredible chemistry and I loved following their journey!

This book had both great romance and the suspense to keep you turning pages! Ellawyn is so sweet and kind hearted. Sometimes you can become bitter after certain events in your life, but not her. Benji is the best and has a such a beautiful soul. Beckett is so patient and takes after Benji with his amazing heart. Quimby Grove sounds like that perfect small town we would all love to live in!

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really loved this story a lot! It pulls on the old heart strings! I normally shy away from books like this. This one I gave a go and was happy I did. The story started off amazing! Then slowed down in the middle But picked right back up to an exciting end.

The characters are lovely! Ellawyn and Beckett are both wonderful characters but I think my favorite is Benji. There are a few other liked secondary characters that I hope will be moved to get their own story.

Overall its a good story that easily kept my interest and turning pages. This is a new author for me and she did a good job with this story. I did find a few errors but I just did not let them bother me too heavily. Everything has a nice flow. Plus she made a lovely little town.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Devil’s Breath was definitely different. Not a different I was really a big fan of. However, don’t let how I feel deter you. This book may not be my thing, but it could be the book you fall in love with.
The author did a fabulous job weaving a criminal web that keeps one interested.
A story full of drugs, gangs, theft, and murder keeps you on your toes at every turn.
Sera, a hired assassin, has just started the biggest job in her life. Rope in a billionaire, drain his accounts, and kill him. How hard could that be?
Cassius is once again trying to bail out his brother Christian, to keep the strain off his parents. Little does he know Christian has other plans for him. Christian was the brother he idolized growing up and he turned into everything Cassius never expected. Meeting Sera has opened his eyes to a life he never thought he’d have. Unfortunately Sera’s lifestyle and father are a major complication in his happily ever after.
It’s not a book I took with a grain of salt, it’s just not my thing. The action/romance are well written. Give it a chance and decide for yourself.

I had a hard time connecting to this book. There were facets that I enjoyed (the cute cats!) and other tones. I do not enjoy conspiracy stories so I think that played a disconnect role for me. Audri was also a little too nice. I wanted a bit more fire. Some good spice, though!

This book really brought everything to the table! It was not just lollipops and rainbows! It brought on the suspense like a wrecking ball! There was a lot of suspense and moments where you would not know what would happen next! The intrigue this novel brought, was beyond my expectations!

Remi & Audri were two characters that had more in common than meets the eye at first glance! I was captivated by their story and who they were as people. To have a chance at what was between them, they really needed to risk everything dear to them. And that was hard for them, as is it really worth it to lose everything to try something out that well, has no guarantee of working out? Both characters had a light within them, and their darkness showed as well. I was gripped to the edge of my sear as I read and could not put this one down as the story kept building as quickly as I turned the pages! Loved it!

This for sure is a must-read book and I truly highly recommend it. I will be for sure reading more by this wonderful author, as I was truly held and captivated! Freaking amazing read! Excellent writing!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wow, I totally devoured this book and could not put it down. This was one fantastic romance/suspense story that just when I thought I had it figured out……the twists and turns along with sizzling moments kept coming.

Remington is truly a “mastermind”. He is totally brilliant and really puts up a facade believe he has a dark heart. His upbringing was heartbreaking….but growing up with his best friend Grayson and his sister Audri is what he needed. Years past and Remington takes over a company that Audri works for. I love the connection between them….his need to protect Audri and I love how strong Audri is sticking up for herself in situations that happened while working before Remi and his company took over. Both characters have this sense of a dark past….Remington keeps his distance in any relationship and is all about total business. Audri has this sense of guilt growing up over an unfortunate accident. Slowly Remington and Audri break down each other’s walls……but…..there is so much greed, suspense, lies and page turning twists that put both Remington and Audri in harms way.

Will Remi and Audri be able to get through each of their pasts and stay safe at the same time? Definitely read and find out you will NOT be disappointed.

This story is truly phenomenal!!

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising, #1)The Mastermind by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was next to impossible to put down. A new author for me but definitely hit this one out of the park. This has it all billionaires, murder, mystery, and mayhem of the best kind! I am eagerly looking forward to reading the second book in this series.

The dark, mysterious, but uber brilliant Remington Starke has had to fend for himself from a young age. Seemingly having an absent father, evil stepmother, and pretty worthless step brother. Despite everything he manages to make it on his own and build a successful empire acquiring new businesses and revamping them to make them profitable. One of these acquisitions happens to be where Audri Wu works, his best friend’s little sister whom Starke has always had a soft spot for. As the sparks build between them and the secrets slowly leak out trouble rears its ugly head. Can Audri and Remington stay ahead of the nefarious plans of others or will they and their budding relationship fall victim?

This book has more twists and turns than a roller coaster which kept me on the edge of my seat. Who is the good guy and the bad guy when it seems everyone is in it for their own benefit? This is a beautifully written book that you will love reading if you like billionaire romances with a whole bunch of action thrown in.

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising, #1)The Mastermind by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was full of detail and intrigue. I absolutely loved that it was a thriller packed with mystery and a surprising connectivity that wrapped it all together nicely. The book centers on Audri – an artist at heart with a traumatic past, and Remi – someone who is part of her past but is closed off to everyone. Ultimately, these two characters bring out each other’s strengths which helps them both grapple with their past.

I really liked the addition of detail surrounding Audri seeing a hypnotherapist to process her trauma. Often, professional care/therapy/mental health topics are skimmed or vaguely alluded to. This book, however, gives the healing journey it’s due. I was happy to see that it was a major part of Audri’s journey.

The romance, the passion, the danger, the mystery – all part of an intriguing read. I am looking forward to the next books in this series. Nadia is a fantastic story teller, weaving in plenty of detail and subplots to keep you guessing until the end!

This was a fun and intriguing story. The Mastermind by Nadia Han contains plenty of action and romance to keep you on the edge of your seat. There are steamy parts but it is in good balance with the rest of the story and does not overtake the book. I love Audri’s quirky and fun personality. It provides a good balance to Remi’s darkness and brooding. These are very well-written and multi-dimensional characters. They are both awesome in their own ways and complement each other beautifully. I’d love to see a continuation of their story. The plot is also well-written and although there is quite a bit going on, it does not get confusing. I loved all the relationships between each of the characters, good and bad. This was a very exciting read!

I really enjoyed this book. There are so many elements to this story and the author does an amazing job with their characters and their backstories. I love the connection between Audri and Remi. Their connection is so strong from growing up together that they know everything about each other or so they think. This books is full of twist and turns and secrets that need to come to life for them to stand a chance together.

Remi grew up with Audri. He was friends with her brother and know that Audri is off limits. After an experience that happened when he was young it had left him seriously affected. Despite that he had made a great and successful life for himself. That doesn’t include being with one woman forever
With his family causing trouble and trying to blackmail him he returns home and meets Audri again. The feelings that she sparks in him is like nothing he felt before but she’s his best friends sister which outs her off limits right?

Audri has got secrets of her own to deal with and work through, and when she meets Remi again he has an effect on her she doesn’t want to admit.

Both of them know what they feel is true and strong but their is many hurdles for them to overcome before they can get their happy ever after.

This was an enjoyable book. The relationship between the characters is complex, but so relatable in a lot of ways. Remington, Remi as he is known to his friends, has had a bit of a rough childhood. He spent a lot of time with the Wu’s and practically saw Audri grow up. He never wanted to admit he had started developing feelings for her when he saw her working on her jewelry one day. Audri has always had a crush on Remi, but never acted on it as she thought he only saw her as a sister. When she started getting weird and semi threatening text messages Remi had his PI look into who was behind the screen. I have to say that in a way he was looking out for her like an older brother would, but when you got a look into his mind with the author’s writing you could tell there was more to his feelings than he let on. Even though Remi didn’t think he was worthy of someone like Audri, she begged to differ. I felt that these characters complimented each other perfectly. Although the you belong to me behavior doesn’t appeal to me, I was glad to see that the female character wasn’t going to let a man push her around and make her feel like she was a possession of any sort. I look forward to reading more books by this author and can’t wait to start the next chapter in this series.

I have recently found myself reading more and more romantic suspense novels and I have been loving them! So when I saw that this book was coming out I just knew that I had to read it and I was not disappointed! I have read numerous boss/worker, brother best friend romances and this one takes the cake! Reading through out the book made me feel as though I was right there going through everything they went through as opposed to just reading it. Each page of every chapter had me captivated and I needed to know what was going to happen. I read this book so quickly and was sad that it ended! I cannot wait until the next book comes out so that I can get even more immersed in this series!

Omg I need more Remington Starke in my life! I loved The Mastermind. The characters were definitely written well!
Scarred by their past both Remington and Audri lived through different scenarios that molded them into who they are today. Where does one even begin?!?
Remington witnessed an organized crime murder when he was 15. A stranger with a scar across his face gave him and his best friends a second chance. He took that chance and hardened himself so no one, and I mean no one could take advantage of him. Being a wealthy businessman he needed to be cut throat to survive and grow.
Audri, blames herself for the fire that killed her father and cat when she was just 8 years old. All she remembers is dropping a candle which made the fire her fault. Causing ptsd fire has been her biggest fear moving through life, minus the fire burning within her. Remington being the only one who can keep the fire going. Even when she was a teen.
How do two people navigate obstacles that are more tied together than they realize?
How do two people who are attracted to each other avoid that attraction?
Why does Audri have to be Remington’s best friend’s little sister?
Now is the time to jump into the world of Providence RI and the annual Waterfire Festival. You will grow to love these characters and their supporting counterparts. I look forward to reading their stories later on in this series.

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove Book 1) by Shannon Nikole – Review by Stephanie Robb

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Finding Starlight is the first book in the Quimby Grove series, this can be read as a standalone.
We meet Ellawyn who moves to Quimby Grove, Pennslyvania to escape her abusive relationship. She spends a lot of time in the local bookstore (a girl after my own heart) where she meets its owner Benji. Benji has been diagnosed with cancer and has asked her grandson Beckett to return to Quimby Grove to help her. We follow a dual point of view alternating between Ellawyn and Beckett.

I loved the relationship that grew between Benji and Ellawyn, Benji was a lovely character. The slow burn romance between Ellawyn and Beckett was everything I needed. The suspense and tension was more than I could handle and I will admit this made my heart melt and a few tears were shed. i would highly recommend this book!

Trigger warnings for cancer, grief, domestic violence and assault.

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole

Ellawyn is running from her past, and stumbles into a quiet town which she believes she can live to rebuild herself. While there she spends most of her time is a little bookstore, Starlight Books and becomes friends with the owner Benji. While befriending the older store owner he decides to tell her his secret and that he will not be able to look after the store for much longer, Ellawyn offers to help run the store with Benji’s grandson Beckett.

Once Beckett arrives Ellawyn feels drawn to this man but with her history and the walls she has built up, will she ever feel like she can have a relationship again?

This is the first story I have read by this author. I enjoyed the small-town vibe, and the characters are well developed and written. Ellawyn’s character has been through a lot in her short life, and you feel the reluctance in her trusting anyone especially a man is heart-breaking. With the twists and turns of the story you feel drawn along to help them find out what is going on.

Although, I did feel in places the story was rushed and tried to get you to the conclusion too quickly and then others I felt could have been expanded a little more to give more back story to the characters, but although in saying this it did not deter me away from the book or the story. I would love to read the next instalment in this series and see what happens next.

There’s so much to unpack in this story. I finished this story a few days ago but it’s still on my mind. Ellawyn is a sweetheart. She’s strong, brave and creative. The trauma she endures was enough to break her completely but she pushed on. Benji has to be one of the best characters ever. You can’t help but fall in love with the guy. His grandson Beckett is way different than I pictured him being when he’s introduced. He is a great match for Ellawyn. There were a lot of realistic events that I could relate too. It’s not just hearts and rainbows in this story. You’ll experience love, grief, fear, sadness and happiness right along with the characters. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out. The story was a tad predictable but I feel like most romance stories are. But it’s still a good read.

Wow! This is an intense book! Secrets abound with Remi and Audri. Friends since their youth, they are brought together again when Remi buys the company she works for. All is not quite as it seems with Remi. He has a gut feeling something is not quite right. He feels his stepmother and stepbrother are up to something. Audri has been through a traumatic experience. They both have an immense attraction to each other. The big catch is she is his best friend’s sister. The suspense and drama unfolds as the try to see where the relationship goes. I fell in love with this book because from the beginning the author engaged me in the story. It kicked right into the action. Remi started right off. I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I had to see what happened next. The characters were great. I do wish their friends had a little more supportive role in the story. The plot, being kind of a mafia tough, was terrific because their were a few twists that you just didn’t see coming. I also liked the fact that Audri is also strong enough to take care of herself to, not always being so needy. It’s a terrific romance that I’d recommend.
