I absolutely loved this collection of stories!! They were so magical with a good amount of suspense and along with it some fantastic plot twists and turns. I really liked the characters and I loved reading about them. One of the things I loved about this series is how unique it was and I loved the author’s writing. The stories were written it in such an engaging way that I couldn’t put them down. Having read books by her previously I know that her world building is usually good but I thought that it was excellent in this series. I really liked Wren and I actually liked that I had to work hard to get to understand her, I found her character really intriguing but there was something about her that I just instantly liked. She was a fantastic, strong heroine to read about. I think I would definitely like one of the deserts that she bakes!! All of the characters in the stories were great to read about.
I 100% recommend this series – it was a fantastic read!

The Confectioner Chronicles: The Complete Fantasy Mystery Series by Claire Luana

5 +++++ Stars

I absolutely loved this series. It contains 4 books and I highly recommend reading them all in order.

The Confectioner’s Guild –

This one was so unique and the added suspense and mystery had me hooked from page 1 and the last 25% of the book I was on the edge of my seat wondering how in the world she was going to make this all work…Brilliant is just one of the words that come to mind. So many things happen in this story that I’m not even going to try to sum it up

The Confectioner’s Exile –

After reading the Confectioner’s Guild book 1 in this series it was completely awesome to go back and read Hale’s story. I don’t normally like doing this but it worked perfectly for me in this case. I was able to get a much better understanding of who Hale is and where he came from, and the lessons and the tragic losses he experienced along the way.

The Confectioner’s Coup –

This was the continued story of Wren and I loved it as much as the first part of this series. She just can’t win when it comes to staying out of the line of fire with being framed for murder and getting out of that to now suspecting the king of being behind guild members being kidnapped and now the enemy has entered the city.

There was some parts of this story that made me so angry and then parts that were so so sad. You don’t really ever know what your gonna get when you open up one of this authors books and I love that.

The Confectioner’s Truth –

There was a lot going on in this story, we met a lot of new people and visited many new places..I loved this part and I felt as if I was right there with Wren as she was making quick decisions and having a lot of inner battles…I found myself trying to help her and felt like I was feeling everything she was. This character has grown so much through these books and I have totally fallen in love with her, and poor Hale…I miss what feels like the old days with Hale and now there he is regretting so many things, this made me sad.

This author has done an amazing job with this series. I’ve loved every word and every page of all of these books. I absolutely can not wait to read them all again!! She ended this series beautifully and in my humble opinion sets the bar high for any other books in this genre.

Brilliant and I can’t wait to read what is to come from this author!! This is one of those books/series that deserves so much more than 5 stars.

I read these as individual stories and waiting for the next story to drop was painful at times (I can be a little Veruca Salti-sh at times.

These stories are full of all the things that make a good YA fantasy series live up to its expectations. There are wonderful friendships, adventure, intrigue, baked goods, action, and a fast paced narrative. This is a very engaging tale and i would recommend it to old and young alike.

I adore this author! I enjoyed her Moonburner series but after reading this book, I know I’m going to love this one! Claire Luana is so talented and imaginative. Who would have thought about putting magic in cupcakes?

Wren doesn’t know she possesses magic and infuses it in the desserts she makes. The secret is revealed to her when she’s asked to join the Confectioners Guild. Unfortunately she’s framed for murder soon after. Now she must navigate her way through the political and magical mess to clear her name. Not knowing who to trust, Wren must get to the bottom of the conspiracy.

This is the first book in this series and it will keep you intrigued until the very end. Just when you think you have it figured out, the author throws another loop at you. I loved the characters and the storyline is so interesting. Towards the end I was literally holding my breath waiting to see what would happen. I can’t wait to read the next part!

The Confectioner’s Guild by Claire Luana is the first book in the Confectioner Chronicles series. I have to say I loved the prequel and this book is written just as well. The writing style of this author is quite enjoyable. The series is aimed at the YA readers but can be enjoyed by us adults as well. The author has made the characters in this book quite enjoyable and its was a pleasure to have read this book and I do look forward for more instalments. In this book we have mystery, magic and cooking. Not your normal mixture in a book but it works well. So, grab yourself a copy of the book and have an enjoyable time in getting to know not only the characters but the authors wonderful way of telling a story.

Let me start by saying what an absolutely beautiful cover this book has and although that was one reason I was drawn to it, it was actually the authors name that had me knowing I had to read it.

This is my 3rd book by this author and I don’t even know what words to use to explain how I appreciate the world building, character forming, and extreme attention to detail this author puts into her stories. I don’t even read fantasy type storylines but Miss Luana’s are so so amazing that I can’t help but savor every single word.

“This is all to say that sometimes, what feels like nothing is really something. You may have more cards in your hand than you realize. You need only play them when the time is right.”

This one was so unique and the added suspense and mystery had me hooked from page 1 and the last 25% of the book I was on the edge of my seat wondering how in the world she was going to make this all work…Brilliant is just one of the words that come to mind. The Confectioner’s Guild by Claire Luana is the first book in The Confectioner Chronicles series. This book is full of mystery, magic, and cooking. Wren is an amazing cook and soon finds herself in the Confectioner’s Guild. Here she learns more about herself and that she has special magical powers. After the death of the head of the guild after eating her cupcake she learns more about not only herself but this guild that she has been brought into. The characters are well written and the story drew me in from the beginning. Not only is Wren a great character but there are also many others. The cupcake on the cover might have made me curious but I am so glad I gave this book a go. I look forward to reading more in this series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Confectioners Guild is the first book in Claire Luana’s delicious new young adult series. I always knew cupcakes and confectionery were magical, and this book had me craving them till the very end. A succulent story of murder and mystery rolled into one scrumptious, bite sized book. Wren always poured her heart into her baked goods, under the watchful eye of her Master. Until one day she is whisked away to the Guild Master, only to be told that she has a unique set of gifts. She has the ability to manipulate a person’s good luck, with a single bite of her baked goodies. With a power like that, she must stay at the Guild and keep her gift a secret. But her sweet moment quickly turns sour, when the Guild Master dies from her poisoned cupcake. Framed for the murder, Wren has to unravel the mystery before her, and learn how to control her gift; before she’s trialled and beheaded.
I really Love Claire Luana’s writing. She weaves fantastical stories, that have you hooked from the very first line. I loved the book and think it is an excellent start to her new series. The characters were delightful, and well developed. Her descriptions of the desserts had my mouth watering and my sweet tooth aching. As well as, the stunning cover art; the more I look at it, the more things I find in it.

What can I say but I absolutely have fallen for this series. The author has such a unique way of
bringing the characters to life and I felt as though I was actually in the story. The refreshing
way that you are drawn into the book and just feel as though you are escaping into the world that the author has developed. I just couldn’t put this book down.

I really felt drawn to Wren from the very start. The drama that unfolds around her brings you to
the edge of your seat with anticipation. I liked how the author was able to not only throw in drama and intrigue but also weaved in just the touch of romance to boot. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Wren, Sable and Hale. Into the mix you have the chemistry between Wren and Lucas. The whole dynamic just adds to the intrigue in the book. I really cannot wait for the next book in this series. To get to delve more into the lives of the Confectioners and their world alongside the other guilds and see where the magic leads.

This is a really good start for this series.

A great read about luck. Wren is given the chance of a lifetime when a customer notices her baking and tells the Guild and they offer her a job. But before she can start, the guildmaster drops dead whilst eating one of her cupcakes. Accused of his murder, Wren faces execution and is only spared by being vouched for by the inspector and that the King is absent. But can they find the real killer before its too late and the King returns?
A great read; Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Wren struggling to trust people but wanting to belong or Lucas trying to help people or Hale with his humorous personality but kind nature underneath. Great supporting cast like the stern Callidus of the sweet Olivia.
A brilliant example of world building in a fantasy world with its rules and societies and geography and history that was detailed with care for the audience to imagine. I loved the vivid imagery throughout the novel for example with the palace and temple in a sense of grandeur and detail in a sense of wonder shared with Wren or the vivid colours of dresses and icing. or the scenery of mountains and water further on in the novel colourful and spectacular all beautifully written to create the sense of wonderful world full of life and colour and people.
the idea of magic bakers was a fun and fantastic idea and was a brilliant addition to the fantasy genre. The passion for baking in Wren was a lovely touch. Fast paced action and high stakes in a wonderful fantasy world made for a captivating read. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

I love food and reading and anything that combines the two are pretty much my favorite thing in the whole wide world. This book puts a super fun twist on a murder mystery. Wren Confectioner has found herself thrust into a world she does not understand, she is struggling to come to terms with the understanding of what she had gotten herself into. Wren has been charged with a magical murder and she has no idea why. She makes friends with a very VERY handsome magical inspector to try to solve this dying problem and the friends she makes along the way help her try to master her powers.
The deeper Wren and her friends get into this mystery, the higher up the chain they go on the suspect list, and Wren soon discovers that death by chocolate cupcake is not the worst way to go. I loved every inch of this book. Wren is a sassy, force to be reckoned with character. Lucas, the investigator, is a no nonsense, handsome man who I just absolutely fell in love with. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Confectioner’s Guild is the first novel in the Confectioner Chronicles by Claire Luana. This is my third novel by this author.

Wren is a confectioner apprentices working in a confection shop. When a mysterious man shows up asking questions about her cupcakes, she is unsure of who he is or what she wants. Reluctantly she goes with him to meet the GuildMaster and thrown in a world she never knew existed and discovers an ability she never knew she processed.

But when the Guild Master is poisoned after eating of her cupcakes, she only has a limited time to prove her innocence and find out who really framed her before the king’s inquisitor arrives.

I’ve read a few books by this author and must admit this is my favorite so far.

While the beginning was confusing, I was interested in what was going on. I also love Wren’s character. She was funny and it was great seeing her passion for baking especially all the love and care she puts into the frosting of her cupcakes.

I fell in love with the cover and did not quite understand the title until I started reading the book. With a interesting concept, fun characters and world about magic, I highly recommend this book. I look forward to reading the next books in the series.

The Confectioner's Guild (The Confectioner Chronicles, #1)The Confectioner’s Guild by Claire Luana
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give The Confectioner’s Guild (The Confectioner Chronicles Book 1) by Claire Luana, 5 stars.

Wren is an orphan, growing up the hard way. She gets by, but barely. She lives for her job in the bakery, making cupcakes and other sweet treats. After her cupcakes get the attention on the Confectioner’s Guild, she is whisked away to what seems like a much better life. It all seems to good to be true. And just maybe it is. No sooner does a better life seem to be within her grasp, than it looks like it will be pulled away just as quickly. She is accused of murder. All because of her cupcakes. Can she find out who did it, or is she doomed? Will she ever have a better life?

This is a young adult book set in a fantastic magical world. It put me in mind of a place JK Rowling would have created. It is something completely new to me and I absolutely loved it. The world is fascinating and the characters are great. Not only is Wren a very down to earth main character, the others in this book are just as great. There are so many that I would love to know more about. Besides the magic in it, there is the suspense of figuring out just who committed the murder and why. You will be kept guessing as you puzzle through the clues.

An overall outstanding book, I highly recommend this book to young adults and older.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Enchanted & cloyingly sweet! I absolutely loved every second I spent with Wren! Claire Luana was a completely new author to me, but I can assure you this will soon be remedied. I have become enthralled with the magical writing skills that she possesses. First, I must start with this amazing cover. I was drawn in with its beautiful colors and enchanting design. Who wouldn’t want to find out what lays behind that? Given I hadn’t known the author previously, I simply went in blind, and wasn’t I pleasantly pleased!

Do not be fooled however. This isn’t so sweet and wholesome as it looks. Hence my cloyingly description. Wren is the very best of bakers. She enjoys what she does and it comes out in her baking. She loves being in her little corner of the world making her masterpieces. Unfortunately, when the Guildmaster calls you must oblige. So oblige she does. This is where things go a bit awry. As mentioned in the teaser his is poisoned and she is to blame! Why would simple and sweet Wren poison the Guildmaster!?

Well this has left her in a tortuous bind. She has merely ONE month to collect her proof that she did not commit the crime she has been accused of or else… To make matters worse she has no alliances and no family now when she needs them the most. What will she do? The journey she will take will be sure to keep you engaged and entertained well beyond your bedtime. I know it did for me. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the next book, ‘The Confectioner’s Exile.’ Thanks so much for such a fantastic read Claire Luana!

The Confectioner's Guild (The Confectioner Chronicles, #1)The Confectioner’s Guild by Claire Luana
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Who doesn’t love a good novel about deserts? Honestly, this book made me crave some delicious pastries that were indeed worth dying for I’m sure, especially if it gave me some good luck. Who doesn’t love a little luck in life?

The Confectioners Guild is a delightfully yummy novel that is so unique in the way it combines delectable deserts and magic. It’s great to see how intricate desert making is but what’s also unique about this novel is how seriously this is taken. There is so much discipline that goes into confections that to see it brought to life in this novel is delightful. The fact that there is a guild dedicated strictly to overseeing it makes it not only fun but impressive as well.

Following Wren, a girl who was once a street urchin turned confectioner; the novel unfolds as much to the reader as it does for her. There are so many politics and intricacies that, in a way, mirrors that of dessert making. That’s part of what makes this novel so riveting. The fact that it works to this end, to keep true to its essence as a story while it builds layers upon layers of mystery, humor, and romance into the storytelling.

Now, Wren was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, used as a scapegoat, her magical cupcake the culprit for murder. So really, on some level, this story is a murder-mystery type story, following Wren as she tries to unravel the politics of the game she has unwittingly entered. There are so many culprits and a strong sense of misdirection that keeps the reader on the edge of their seats. It makes for an intense read, a riveting one because while the story is unique, the idea thrill of unraveling this mystery alongside the reader makes for an enthralling read.

So, the story is excellent, of that, there is no doubt, but the characters themselves are also fantastic. Wren starts as quite ordinary, but as the story unfolds, her strengths, her spunk, everything about her begins to shine and flourish. Wren flourishes and grows alongside the story, and the way she develops makes her captivating. She goes from being a girl scared of her own shadow to a woman who can face death with her head held eye, unwilling to give up.

Overall, it’s a strong fun story that will surely leave the reader eager (and hesitant) for a cupcake.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Claire Luana did it again with The Confectioner Chronicles. She has created a world within that has food apart of the magic. Ms. Luana has a tendency to write her characters with the most love or hate with in her story. She likes to teach little lessons with in her book. I think that is why I am a follower of Ms. Luana. In this story she takes an upper class son Hale and makes him a lower class citizen, which to me says anything can happen and you need to be ready for it. Wren, who bakes desserts with luck inside it, finds herself without luck as she is accused of murder. There is no time for Wren to try solving this on her own. Throughout this story it is really fast paced and one needs to pay attention behind every twist and turn because there are clues and you do not want to miss them. The underlying theme I felt as a part of this story is trust and all the making of good desserts. I would love to find a bake shoppe that has magical desserts to help get out of situations that may be happening in my world. I would recommend reading this series as it is only going to get better.

The Confectioner’s Guild (The Confectioner Chronicles Book 1) by Claire Luana is a book that I “one-clicked” as soon as I saw the pre-order button. I very much enjoy this author’s stories and was excited to read this.

The world building in this story was fascinating. There is a very distinct class structure and it was interesting to see what roles people played. This is a story of magic and sweet treats (seriously, I NEEDED cupcakes by the time I finished reading it). It’s the story of a “lost girl” finding her tribe. There is murder and mystery and new crushes. Besties and trusted friends and people who want to help while still others who do not. If this wasn’t YA, I think it could almost be classified as a “cozy mystery”. There is definitely a youthful innocence to some of the characters and a mean twist to others. This story reminded me of a fairy tale with a twist.

For some reason, I read Wren (the main protagonist) with Shirley Temple’s accent and her friend Olivia as the best friend/side-kick in The Little Princess (because this is a YA book, the likelihood that anyone is going to get that reference…). This is one of those books that I would recommend to my younger cousins as a series starter.

The story flowed well, was easy to read and kept me interested from beginning to end. After the series is over, I will absolutely be going back to read again.

The Confectioner’s Guild (The Confectioner Chronicles Book 1)
Claire Luana
5/5 stars

The Confectioner’s Guild is not my first experience with Claire Luana’s writing, I’ve read some of another series written by her and despite not being a true fantasy reader, I loved it. This series is different than the one I’ve read by the author in the past, but when I read the synopsis for the first book in The Confectioner Chronicles series I had high hopes, and I will admit I wasn’t disappointed in this unique, fast paced story.
The story kicks off pretty quickly, ramping up the intensity right out of the gate which I really enjoyed. So often the first book in the series serves as a means of laying a foundation as well as providing a story, this didn’t feel drawn out it was action packed and intriguing from the very start.
The Confectioner’s Guild left me wondering why I don’t read more YA novels. This truly has a little bit of everything, twists, turns, mystery, romance but nothing over the top. I loved the imagery and felt like I was transported to another world and Wren is a strong, likable character despite her difficult past. I’d give this book 5 stars all around, from the cover art to the words between the pages. I am looking forward to following The Confectioner Chronicles.

The Confectioner’s Guild (The Confectioner Chronicles #1) by Claire Luana – Review by Emily Walsh

The Confectioner's Guild (The Confectioner Chronicles Book 1)The Confectioner’s Guild

My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Confectioner’s Guild (The Confectioner Chronicles #1) by Claire Luana was a fast pace, unique read that had me hooked from the first cupcake till the last.

My first read by this author, I went in with a open mind, as I love these types of weird quirky books. What a fun read, it was everything I was hoping it would be and more. Claire Luana open this book running and quickly the plot is under way, and we are just as shocked, confused and bewildered as poor Wren. That type of opening can be tricky, but the with the author’s smooth, detailed writing, it worked beyond belief.

As for Wren our MC, I liked her from the start. Right away she gives you some of her sad backstory, her life but still left something hidden, that you don’t get to know until later. She has a good head on her shoulders and it helped her throughout this adventure. You can see her change as the story goes on, she get less skittish and, gains confidence lacked before being snached away.

As for the overall plot and mystery, I will say I had that figured out pretty fast, but it didn’t take away form the funnes that it this read. As I said the writing is solid, detail and a treat to the eyes. But I will say though I had the main players figured out, I didn’t see all it coming. That added that extra something special, that made this story all the more wickedly good.

Overall this book is a must read, so please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that this book will hook you, if not for the adventure, then it will be the cupcakes.

Happy Reading

The Confectioner’s Guild ( The Confectioner Chronicles Book #1) by Claire Luana – Review by Angela Hayes

The Confectioner’s Guild is the first book in The Confectioner’s Chronicles by Claire Luana. The Moonburner Cycle is one of my favourite fantasy series ever, so when I discovered that Ms. Luana was releasing a new series, I could not wait for it to be available. I began devouring it within minutes of it hitting my Kindle. Even though the premise is quite different from the Moonburner books, I still had really high expectations and I am really excited to say that Ms. Luana certainly delivered on all the promise that the synopsis held. I was spellbound right from the beginning and loved every minute of this interesting, intriguing and slightly quirky read. Ok, I admit that Ms. Luana pretty much had me sold just from the premise alone. I mean, what’s not to love about a YA fantasy mystery??? There were sweet treats, murder, mystery, suspense, magic, danger, action, adventure, friendship, self-discovery, hidden agendas, quirky characters, surprises, and twists. Oh yeah, I was completely hooked!!!!
As with the Moonburner series, Ms Luana has once again created a unique and wonderful world in which to set her story. Ms. Luana’s imagination seems to know no bounds as she brings so many creative and unique elements to her storyline. It’s a wonderfully written story full of visual texture, wonderful descriptions and intricate details. The story is complex- with many layers, all beautifully interwoven and stitched together quite seamlessly to produce this delightful read.
The characters are unique, interesting, well thought out and fully developed. They were so enchanting; the cast of characters added an extra element of appeal to the whole story.
This is definitely a story I won’t forget any time soon and I can’t wait for the rest of the series and have already pre-ordered them in advance!

Thank you Ms. Luana!
