This was a good kid’s story. With Characters that we all know about, but with a little different tale to it. A story about that you should treat others that you would like to be treated. Teaching values, morels are a great thing to understand and learn. The pictures in the book were amazingly drawn and the colors were bright and really brought the whole book together. And the educational part about how mirrors work was very interesting to learn. It was a very enjoyable little book.

My kids love this author, she always has them thinking, using their imagination in one way or the other. They learned to treat everything fairly. Wonderful story, their favorite part was the pictures and trying to guess what would happen next in the story based off of them, they never got it right, but it was fun (as mom) to see the wheels turning and them thinking up different things.

I read the Dwarve’s Dilemma with my 6 year old daughter and we both loved it. It was a great, unique take on what it is like to be fair to one another. I often enjoy reading this author to my children, especially the stories that have an element for science to them. I love a children’s book that teaches important life lessons as wel. This book has that as well as fun characters and really cool illustrations. Another fun book to add to our bedtime story rotation!

Another really cute children’s book from this wonderful author. I loved how each of her books tackles something different for children and creates talking points for children to discuss different issues. In this books the dwarves have a dilemma and have to think about how to deal with things fairly. This is great for children especially as they often don’t understand this kind of problem.
Again the story was well written and beautifully illustrated.

The queen always tried to be fair. Citizens would come to her when problems would arise. She would resolve the issues. One day both citizens didn’t seem like they were wrong. It happened for the first time. Then the queen found out she wasn’t fair and was the one at fault. She admitted her wrongs and made it right.

Cute story with a little twist. Surprise, surprise, the fairest in the land is not actually the fairest. My 5yo son enjoyed this book. He was sad when he found out why the Queen was not the fairest. A nice lesson when we see both the dwarves eyes sparkling. Sometimes in an argument, both people can be right. Another fabulous children’s book by Lois Wickstrom.

This was a fun an engaging version of Snow White that myself and my kids really enjoyed reading. It was easy to read but still put across an important message. As with all this authors’ book it was well illustrated, which really helped to capture my kids attention.
For an author that we hadn’t read until this year she has certainly become a firm favourite in a short space of time. We are already looking forward to the next book.

In a kingdom where fairness is cherished, live a queen and her daughter Snow White who have help from a magic mirror to solve the dilemmas of the kingdoms inhabitants by showing the “Sparkle of Fairness” in their eyes. All is going well until a group of dwarves come in with a dilemma where neither party has the “Sparkle of Fairness”, so Snow asks if she can investigate and find out the fairest answer, but it is not the one which anyone was expecting, so in this case, who is the fairest of them all?

This is a lovely book with a brilliant way of showing how to deal with moral dilemmas in the fairest way and explains what fairness means to different people in an engaging way which is educational as well as entertaining in the best possible way.

The Dwarves’ Dilemma: A Science Folktale By Lois Wickstrom is the perfect book to teach young children about being fair. There are many examples of how the queen uses the mirror to determine if she is ruling in a way that is fair to all involved. This book explores how sometimes treating others fairly needs to be investigated because something might seem fair on the surface, but it really is not. The book teaches children about how mirrors work- reflections the mirror turns items upside down or backward. As a teacher, this book is a great resource to walk through with students and explain your thinking behind how you treat students fairly in class. Overall, Lois Wickstrom created an amazing story with a great moral.

It is amazing how the back matter of the book includes scientific information about how mirrors work. This information could be brought down to a level where younger students understand the meaning behind the information provided.

This was so much fun to read! It had familiar characters from other fairytales to attract children. The Queen was the fairest in the land so everyone came to her to solve their problems. What happens when the magic mirror shows that both sides are right? The Queen sends Snow White to investigate and she really that the Queen is not being fair. A perfect story to teach children to have good morals. At the back of the book you also learn how mirrors work. It’s very cool!

Again, I read this story with my youngest son. He says it’s a good story. He also said it teaches the important life lesson that you should always pay your employees… While I’m glad he got that point, I think the bigger one is to always try to treat any situation fairly. This story helps explain this to the tiny humans.

This book teaches a very good lesson. It really points out that you have to look at things from another’s point of view sometimes. Life isn’t always fair but if you can be fair you should. The Queen knew she wasn’t being fair and did what she could to right her wrong. Hats off to Lois for this one!

This is another illustrated book by this wonderful storytelling author that I had to pick up for the kids. This one did not disappoint me either. I loved how she threw in some of the Snow White fable yet managed to make it her own without a wicked queen. In fact, the queen in this story is completely opposite and wants to help the people of her kingdom. As with most of her books there are many lessons to learn. I also love how she included a few science experiments again, but this time using a mirror. Once again, the illustrations were fabulous, and the colors jump off the page. Another terrific book to pick up for your own children or to give as gifts.

The Dwarves’ Dilemma: A Science Folktale (Science Folktales) by Lois Wickstrom

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. The Dwarves’ Dilemma is a Science Folktales novel. This author sure knows how to keep kids entertained and my daughter can’t wait for the next book.

The Queen is fair and she tries to do what is best for everyone in her kingdom. When the Dwarves come in and they are fighting. She finds that her mirror no longer shows the fairness sparkle in her eye. The quote I chose for the Queen is: “The problem was my mistake, not yours. From now on, I will pay all my servants.”

Highly recommended for Kids and Family lovers.

This book was super cute!! I got this thinking that my youngest daughter (7) would like it. My oldest (10) also enjoyed not only the story but the fun illustrations as well. The Queen in this book is know as the most fair and honest person in the Kingdom of Aleta. Everyone comes to her with their problems so they can be solved fairly. She uses a mirror to help her with the harder problems. Looking for the sparkle of fairness in everyone’s eyes each time. When the dwarves bring her a problem where both sides think they are being fair the Queen needs her mirror. But there is a problem when the mirror shows her that SHE isn’t the fairest! Oh my! She entrusts Snow White to get to the bottom of the problem. Can Snow White find out where things went wrong? How is the Queen not fair? Will the poor dwarves’ problem get solved? What will happen to the Queen?! Such a fun book. In the back of the book it has information on how mirrors work and reflect. It’s a great way to help your kids learn about some science stuff while reading a cute book. I would recommend this book (and the other science books she’s written) for kids ages 5-10. I know my two kiddos have enjoyed them all so far!! Can’t wait for more!!

I have read many books by this author and she has not disappointed. This is a good book for not only teaching children lessons but also explaining science. This book would be great for children about 7-9. I just wish my children were younger I would definitely have them read these. I like how she is able to engage the reader and make something they may find hard easier. I highly recommend this series to anyone with younger children. A very good way also to introduce science to children.

This a great short story that illustrates how important it is to be fair and to consider all sides of a problem. I enjoyed reading about the dilemmas and seeing how the queen dealt with the problems that the mirror didn’t easily give an answer to. This book not only teaches about being kind and fair but also accountability and even how a mirror works. I would recommend this book to anyone but especially young children who could learn more about the way a mirror works and how to be a well rounded person.

This is a nice small take on “Snow White” story but also learning to be fair. Queen Mabel wants to be the fairest Queen and has a mirror to help her along the way if a decision has to be made that may be more difficult. Snow helps Queen Mable when a dilemma comes along between two dwarves, Bossy and Pippa and wants to be fair just like the Queen.

This book is sweet, educational, solving an issue and beautiful illustrations at each turn of the page and an enjoyable story for both young and old.

The Dwarves’ Dilemma: A Science Folktale (Science Folktale Series) by Lois Wickstrom is a cute illustrated children’s story.
This is a ‘Snow White’ story, with a bit of a twist. It has a sweet plot with bright and colourful illustrations to hold children’s interest, a little drama, lesson/teaching moments on problem solving- fairness- making mistakes- taking responsibility- mirrors- and reflections. And includes some science experiments you can do, at home or the classroom, at the end of the book.
The story is easy to follow and understand and will easily hold a child’s attention the whole way through.
This cute and quirky story was engaging and fun, feeding both the imagination, as well as inspiring a little learning.
Happy reading!

Queen Mabel is regarded as the fairest in the Kingdom of Aleta. She judges fairness by using a mirror to see if the eyes of those asking for a ruling had the Sparkle of Fairness. Several people come to the Queen to see if she thinks certain situations are fair or not. One day, the Queen defers to Snow White, who is sent out to investigate the dilemma that the dwarves are having with Pippa. Snow White makes a discovery that alarms Queen Mabel. She vows from that day forward to make some corrections!

This is a super cute book that focuses on the science of mirrors, as well as the moral trait of fairness. The illustrations are very well done and young readers will recognize some of the characters from more popular fairy tales. Not to mention, there is a dragon! Another great read by this author!

The Dwarves’ Dilemma is Lois’s twist on the fairy-tale of Snow White. With dragons and dwarves, queens and yes, a mirror and Snow White there is something to delight all kids. It is colourful and well written that kids just fall in love with the tale whether or not they understand the science or meaning behind them. My grandbabies did. So, grab your little or littler people and dig in.

It is a science class in a book with colourful illustrations to aid in the teaching. Lois has a knack for Science Folktales.

What a cute story that teaches about fairness and accepting responsibility. Using a little of Snow White, the Dwarves and the Queen, the author reaches also about mirrors and the what, who and science of them. A fun, quick read for the kids. My grandson and I found it entertaining. He loves to ask lots of questions so this book started us down the rabbit hole of mirrors and the science of them. Colorful pictures, bite-size bits of the story for each section. An A+ read. We are fans of the author. Love the books she puts out. The kids learn and have fun doing it.
