Although this is the fifth in the series, it can be read as a standalone. It is of course, a historical romance. Lots of drama and witty banner. I don’t normally enjoy historical romance but this one was a good read. Jane and Alexander are very opposite, but when misfortune lands on both of their laps, not only will they have to work together, but they forge a friendship as well…or is it more?! I have read a few books from this author and she always blows my mind. I’m starting to love historical romance because of this author. She always exceeds my expectations. This is the fifth book of the Scarlet Salon series. You could read this book as a stand alone but if you love historical romance then you will want to read the whole series. I was so excited when I got this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. It only took me a few hours to devour this incredible book.
Jane Mayfield is now twenty five and she needs to find a husband. She is nothing like the other ladies. Jane does not come from a wealthy family with good dowries. She believes she can find love but it is not going to be the fairy tale she wants. Jane and this handsome man get into some trouble together. They band together so they can get out of this trouble but then sparks start to fly. Jane and Alexander have feelings for each other but can their relationship be accepted in society?

I was pleasantly surprised by this one! I have to admit I don’t read historical romances often but after this one I think I’m gonna start adding more to my TBR! When we meet Jane I knew I was going to love her right from the beginning. She has such a fun personality and I always looked forward to her and Alex going at it. They both have such witty, sarcastic attitudes it makes for an amazing story! It was a really fun and short read. I could start it and finish it in one day. Once I picked it up there was no putting it down!

I’m gonna keep this review simple and in plain English because I enjoyed previous works from this author. This reminds me of “Bridgerton,” the books and TV shows which made me fall deeper into it without a doubt. Like a guilty pleasure to read LOL. What I enjoyed about this is how they’re opposite attracting and mistaken identity is also inter testing to see how it will or would play out. Basically, a great book filled with intrigue, mystery but even better ROMANCE! Catch this one to see how this timeless classic is worth the read.

The Earl and The Peahen is the 5th book in the Scarlet Salon series by Jean Wilde. Each book contains a complete story and can be read as a standalone. My first reading of Jean Wilde’s writing was the 4th book in this series and was not missing any necessary information. In this book we meet Jane Mayfield, who at 25 is still unmarried and possible set for life as a spinster. When a countess offers to chaperone her for the season in London, she is determined to find a suitable husband before it is too late. Alexander Gordon, Earl of Norwich has decided that it’s time to settle down and find a bride and to his shock and surprise finds himself thinking of the plain Jane he met who was extremely rude to him. Needless to say that the path to true love never runs smooth but I absolutely adored Jane and Alexander’s story. There’s plenty of funny moments, drama and intrigue, and as is the norm with a regency novel, there is some scandalous moments too, all of which amounted to a novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you like a good regency romp then I definitely recommend that you read The Earl and The Peahen.

For me after the first page or two, I thought I wasn’t going to like it. However, as I kept reading I became more and more invested in the story and the mystery of what Lucifer’s real goal was and what was going to happen to our pair. Personally, Jane drove me a bit nuts describing herself as plain, as I am sure she did to Alexander. Overall I liked them both and I liked their dynamic. The story kept me turning the pages and I was very happy at the end. So even though I thought I wasn’t going to like it I really did enjoy it. I absolutely recommend it. A very good read.

The Earl and the Peahen is the fifth book in the Scarlet Salon Book series by Jean Wilde. This can be a stand-alone book. But if you like historical romance stories, I highly recommend the previous books as well. The historical era when this book takes place is detailed perfectly which makes seeing the story in my mind’s eye even better. The plotline is about finding a love that you were not looking for and opposites attracting to one another. One good thing about opposites attracting is the chemistry and the playful talking back and forth with each other. The characters are complex and have unique qualities with each other. If you can joke around and be yourself with someone, usually you fall for one another unexpectedly. I felt like I was transported back in time and was friends with Jane and Alexander while the relationship was budding. I highly recommend this book to all romance lovers.

Who doesn’t love a good historical/Regency England love story?! Jane is a character that you couldn’t help but love and feel sorry for, too. She knows she is not the prettiest girl in the room but her character more than makes up for it. When she meets the Earl… you can’t help but root for them to end up together! Their banter is wonderfully written!
This was a fun, witty and definitely an adult book.

Wilde does a fantastic job with this book. As a fan of historic/regency romance, I loved the setting immediately. It was a quick and enjoyable read for me and one that I can absolutely see myself reading again soon. Great characters and easy plot pacing. Just a truly enjoyable read.

The Earl and the Peahen is the fifth book in the Scarlet Salon series by Jean Wilde. This book can be read as a standalone, as this is the first book I have read by Jean Wilde. Historical Romance is not one of my go to genres, but I like to change my reading up every once in a while. I made a great choice with this book. The storyline was fun and easy to follow. The characters were relatable and the dialogue was full of funny whit. Jane and Alexander had great chemistry. The Earl and the Peahen (The Scarlet Salon Book 5) by Jean Wilde was another great read in this series! This book can be read as a stand alone, or at least I take it to be read that way. This one I think was more entertaining to me than the fourth book I read. I’ve only read this book and the fourth one as of yet. This one was entertaining, and steamy, and grabbed me from the very beginning. I enjoyed reading Jane’s tale in this book. I can’t wait to read more from this author and I hope there’s more installments to this series as well!

This is a story that surprised me more as the story rolled along. There is a reoccurring theme that I didn’t get at first. Once I hit the second half of the book it became obvious and I couldn’t have loved it more. The characters are intriguing and I grew to enjoy watching them blossom. I loved the sassiness of Jane and the dandiness of Alexander and how they blended and at time didn’t. It made for some very fun reading.

I enjoyed this Regency Romance. The characters were well written and the story keeps you hooked from the beginning as you want to see how things turn out.
Jane is just a plain girl who is heading into spinsterhood. With no suitor in sight at least not one she wants. Then she meets Alexander the Earl of Norwich.
Compared to Jane he is bold and confident and considered a dandy. What would a bold beautiful peacock like him see in a plan peahen like Jane.
When the pair are kidnapped by mistake they grow closer and their relationship develops. If they are freed will their romance survive or was Alexander just passing the time while they were stuck together?

The Earl and the Peahen by Jean Wilde in title alone made me want to read it, especially knowing that it was about England Victorian society. I am always a sucker for romances set in that time period so I just knew that I would fly through this book. Tropes wise I do not know what exactly I would classify the relationship as because I do not think it counts as enemies to lovers so I guess it would be friends to lovers. It is definitely a very interesting adventure and not something I think I have seen before. This is why I love and hate romance novels because I want more of these characters, but I won’t except maybe in cameos in other books in the world. Obviously going into the book you know what is going to happen, that is the greatness of romance novels. However, there were some things that I was surprised to find in this book but in the hopes of not spoiling I will not share here. Overall an absolutely adorable novel and I hope to continue reading books by Jean Wilde in the future!

I wanted to read something a bit different from the usual genre that I had been my go to lately so I picked up this historical romance from the teasers that caught my eye. I am glad I gave it a go! Normally, not one I would just one-click but it really kept me enthralled and reading all the way until the end to find out what would happen and if that happily ever after would happen. I enjoyed how engaging Jean Wilde wrote these characters. I felt very much as if this was historically accurate but enjoyable and that is not easy to do for me personally as a reader. I will definitely be looking to see what else is available from Jean Wilde in The Scarlet Salon Series going forward!

Absolutely loved this book. Jean Wilde gives a fresh fun take on historical romance while still being accurate to the times. Jane is a fun character that pulls you in and surprises you. Absolutely love how her character grows the more you read. Get this book and you will not be disappointed. The inside jokes made the story funny and relatable. Definitely would recommend to historic and comedy romance readers.

The Earl and the Peahen (The Scarlet Salon Book 5) by Jean Wilde. When I first started reading I was so set against anything historical but recently I’ve become a big fan. And this author is one of the reasons. I find myself always sinking right in and enjoying being lost in the pages of her books. This could definitely be read as a stand-alone but I do highly recommend them all. The characters were easy to connect with and the storyline was fun to read. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking. The author does a wonderful job of bringing readers inside the world she’s created and I loved every minute of it. Four big stars and highly recommended!

At 25, Jane is older than many of the debutants of society, but her friend Isabelle for the season to find a husband. Jane doesn’t wish to marry just anyone like the older suitors who are close to her father’s age. She dreams of finding a love match. Through Isabelle and her husband Jane meets Alexander, the Earl of Norwich at a event. Soon after meeting Jane and Alexander have a conversation about his waistcoat, which Jane compares to getting attention like a male peacock! Jane and Alexander are wonderful characters who are brought together again when they are kidnapped by mistake. Their friendship begins in this awful setting. I’m sure you will fall in love with these two like I did.

I like historic romances, and I love reading them. The etiquette, the dresses, the balls, the dances, and romance brewing between all this – it has a charm in it. Jane Mayfield, already considered a old spinster, and is obliged to settle to an advantageous marriage to an older gentleman. But she is a romantic by heart and wants to marry for love. Her plain looks and sharp tongue do not help the already grim situation in any way. In London, she is introduced to Alexander Gordan, Earl of Norwich, handsome, dashing and arrogant. She compares him to a peacock who can attract a harem of peahens. They do not make much of a first impression on each other, but fate lands them together in a less pleasant situation. A mistaken identity gets them kidnapped and they develop a liking towards each other. They find a way to escape the kidnappers, but will the society spare them? How do they avoid the gossip and rumors which have already spread in the society? Will Alexander walk away from Jane or will they get their fairy tale romance together? I really liked the plot and the lead characters. After a long time, a breezy romance, which is a good read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging and wonderfully written historical romance. Although book five in ‘The Scarlet Salon’ series by Jean Wilde it can be read as a standalone story. I loved the characters and I was swept along by the romantic storyline. The descriptive narrative really made both the era and the setting come to life and I felt fully immersed in the story. I was hooked from page one until the last page. The main characters, Jane Mayfield the plain spinster and the peacock dandy, Alexander Gordon, the Earl of Norwich, were both likeable and relatable. Although Jane can not compete with the young debutantes who have generous dowries she is determined that during her London season she will make an advantageous love match. Alexander Gordon is lonely and wants a family but he is also looking for love. Although Jane captures his attention she’s not the ideal match he had in mind. After a case of mistaken identity the couple end up imprisoned by a professional criminal. As Jane and Alexander are imprisoned together romance blossoms but once they are freed Jane wonders if their mutual attraction will last. The couple definitely have chemistry which came across in the writing and I was hoping they would get their happy ever after. I could not put this book down and I definitely recommend it.

I really enjoy historical romance and I loved this one. The author’s writing pulls you right in. This is the 5th book in The Scarlet Series but can be read as a stand alone.
This is Jane and Alexander’s story. Jane is determined to find love. She meets Alexander and it’s not love at first sight. They are total opposites and I had a LOL moment with the nickname she gave him. Moving forward they find themselves in a predicament that will throw them together and they grow closer.
Will they get home safely? Will they get a HEA or will they go back to the way things were?
Overall this was a great historical read. I really liked Jane and Alexander. If you’re looking for a read that pulls you right in, 1-click and start reading this one today. I look forward to reading more from this author.

The Earl and the Peahen (The Scarlet Salon Book 5) by Jean Wilde. This is such a good read. Its a wonderful Historical Romance and part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Its the story of Jane Mayfield who is as plain as her name implies. She is 25 and still not married but thinks maybe just maybe its not too late. Her mother is not good to her so when a friend offers to give her another send off she accepts. Alexander Gordon an Earl has is rich and thinks he’s got life by the tail but realizes he needs a more fulfilling life. He is as gorgeous as she is plain and he realizes she is not the most beautiful lady but being all alone is getting old and he wants a partner. A weird turn of circumstances causes them to get kidnapped together and spending that time together and working together to escape causes them to realize their true feelings for each other. The Earl and the Peahen is the fifth book in The Scarlet Salon series by Jean Wilde. As with the other books in the series, it can be read as a standalone. But, having said that, if you love historical romance/regency romance- then you probably won’t want to miss out on what the first four books have to offer. This is a really great historical/regency romance- about finding love unexpectedly, where opposites attract- and with plenty of banter, drama, intrigue, chemistry, tension, and more. I really enjoyed following Jane and Alexander on their ‘adventure’- watching while fate threw these two ‘opposites’ together and especially enjoyed how everything played out. As expected, the characters were really well developed- crafted into fully realised individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. I found them to be quite endearing and couldn’t help but cheer them on from the sidelines. This is another really well developed story from Ms. Wilde. She crafts a rich setting for her story- full of clever and creative touches – along with authentic historical details that really help to bring her characters and story to life. Her storytelling really draws you into her ‘world’ and she easily captured and held my attention the whole way through. I wonder what she has instore for us next?

5 Stars The Earl and the Peahen (The Scarlet Salon Book 5) by Jean Wilde
The Earl and the Peahen is the fifth book in The Scarlet Salon Series by Jean Wilde. This is a wonderfully written Historical Romance that is set in the Regency Period and I absolutely am loving this series. I’m a huge fan of this genre and each book I read by this author gets better and better. This is a quick read as I read it in an afternoon and once you start you won’t want to put it down. I had to know how everything was going to play out. Jane is a very plain as her name woman who is very determined to accept only a marriage of love, and she has only one more chance left to meet someone and marry. Then there’s Alexander who’s been quite fine with having no one that is until he meets Jane. These two find themselves being imprisoned and being let go only to go there separate ways. Will these two find their way back to one another? Find out what happens next in this must read. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

I love historical romance; I love getting lost in the era in which they are set and this book was exactly what I love about this genre. I loved the setting for the story, the characters, everything really. The authors descriptive language made me feel like I was right there with the characters, I could image the places she was describing and the clothes that they were wearing. I loved Jane and Alexander, they certainly had a connection and passion between them! I loved reading their story and all the twists and turns in it! I would highly recommend this story and I cannot wait to read more from this author again in the future.

The Earl and the Peahen by Jean Wilde is the fifth book in the Scarlet Salon series. This is a brilliant historical romance that really caught my attention from the moment I read the description. This is a stand-alone book so does not have to be read in order to be enjoyed. Out of all the books I have read by this author I think this one is my favourite so far. I really just fell in love with the characters. They were interesting and had a clear connection from the start. The author did a great job with the writing in the book as well. It was evenly paced and the plot was developed exactly when it needed to be. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book and definitely worth your time.

The Earl and the Peahen is Jean Wilde’s fifth book in the The Scarlet Salon series. It is a historical romance set in Regency times. I enjoyed the banter between the main characters which made it fun to read. The storyline is refreshing and original and had me laughing.
Jane is not like the rest of her family. She is not a beauty but rather plain. All she wants is a marriage of love. The Earl of Norwich wants a wife. Easy huh! Well you would have thought so.
