I am not a huge fan of historical romance I find it hard to stay concentrated but this book was good. Jacek is a soilder and a pretty good one and his only goal is to progress in his military career so he does not have time for romance.
When Jacek rescues a beautiful woman called Oliwia and her brother, Jacek  didn’t realise how mesmerised he could be by a woman.
Oliwia has secrets of her own and things seem to be piling up against the couple that makes it seem almost impossible for their love to bloom.

This is a very good book when it comes to historical romance

He is adamant about defending his nation. Is he, however, capable of defending himself against the ultimate betrayal? 1610, Muscovy Jacek Dbrowski want to be remembered for his bravery. The twenty-two-year-old Polish cavalry officer earns his captain’s animosity instead of securing the territories he craves with his recent promotion to lieutenant. And his out-of-character rescue of two innocents from slaughter sets off a cascade of disastrous events. Dbrowski leads the young woman and her brother back to the castle in his birthplace after discovering they are not Russian opponents and have no relations.

However, when his competition with his superior intensifies and the growing beauty ignites a fire in his heart, the valiant horseman’s aspirations of greatness may be shattered. Will the brave warrior be able to withstand sinister plots that threaten to ruin all he holds dear? The first book in The Winged Warrior Series historical fiction duology, The Heart of a Hussar, is a gripping read. Griffin Brady’s well-researched novel will appeal to fans of motivated characters, gut-wrenching twists, and dramatic action scenes.

I loved this story. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is my first book in the series from this author and I can’t wait to read the rest of her books.

I really enjoyed reading this historical novel, set in a place and time period I have never read about before—17th century Poland. I enjoyed the characters and the world-building. The author’s research is obvious and impressive, and did not intrude on the storylines but rather enhanced them. I read a lot of historical fiction and this was really very well done. I await to read the sequel.

The Heart of a Hussar is the first book in The Winged Warrior Series and I absolutely loved reading this Historical Fiction/Romance story that you will find yourself pulled in from the beginning and doesn’t let go till the end. It’s a bit long but I honestly was so caught up in the story I really didn’t notice. This being a fairly new author I wasn’t sure what to expect but man was I blown away by the attention to detail and the characters wow. This author definitely did the research that’s for sure. Get ready for quite the adventure with Jacek as he is a newly appointed Lieutenant and while out searching for supplies he rescues Oliwia and her brother. Jacek don’t realize his actions may cause serious consequences. You guys I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I don’t want to accidentally give up to much. Im definitely looking forward to the next book as I have many questions floating around my head that im hoping will be answered.

This book was a very unexpected surprise. Its my first read by this author as well as my first real dive into historical fiction of this type. I enjoyed every moment of it. There was action, romance, wonderful historical detail, and amazing vivid imagery provided. This book truly takes you back in time with the story, and gives you the account through Jacek’s eyes being young and in the military with optimism and excitement of what’s to come.
This book was a great read, and It took me outside of my box.

The Heart of a Hussar (The Winged Warrior, #1)The Heart of a Hussar by Griffin Brady

To say that I branch out far from my preferred book genres on a regular basis would be a lie. I do enjoy sitting down with an easy to read, melt my heart, HEA sort of romance, or a crazy, whirlwind dystopian novel, because I am a creature of habit. I am so very glad I took a leap into 17th century and met our main hero Jacek, who has just received news that he will be one step closer to his lifelong goal. Shortly after receiving said news, he comes across a devastating scene that completely brings his caring and protective side to light. Here, he saves our lovely Oliwia and her little brother, Filip, who have just lost their parents to Lisowski’s “lost men,” who are known as brigands to the Winged Warriors.

This is where our story really begins. From here, the reader becomes drawn into what could very well become the next best show, as that’s what it ended up being for me, a novel that drew me in and let me take my mind off of the personal turmoil that has been plaguing me as of late. The writing style, the way the characters have a slow burn sort of development individually and together, and the world building that is all encompassing, is just brilliant. As mentioned in other reviews, I certainly wouldn’t say that it is an easy read, nor would I recommend it to someone that is looking to read a novel in one sitting, as this novel deserves all the attention and time you can spare. I will certainly be reading the next installment and cannot wait to see what happens!

The book is beautifully written and the author really brings this book to life with the intricate details. I loved Jacek’s character as he is young, strong, loyal and driven. Newly appointed as lieutenant and while trying to find supplies, Jacek rescues Oliwia and her brother. From this action, Jacek takes them with him back to Poland and the story takes off from here. I loved Jacek and Oliwia’s characters in this book. A true emotional journey read for me and looking forward to book 2!

I was grabbed by the cover of the book. This is a new author for me. The adventure that I went on with this author was very engaging, I enjoyed the time period in the book written in. The author’s attention to detail is what makes this story work. The characters are relatable and real. Jacek has been promoted to lieutenant and he is hoping that he will gain the lands he desires. He finds a woman and her brother and brings them back to his castle. What happens next you will have to read the book to see what happens from here.

The Heart of a Hussar (The Winged Warrior, #1)The Heart of a Hussar by Griffin Brady
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully written historical novel set in Poland during the early 17th-century. This is the first book in, ‘The Winged Warrior Series’ featuring Jacek Dąbrowski, a young Polish lieutenant in the Hussar’s, an elite cavalry unit, who is determined to protect his country. In 1610, in Muscovy, Jacek just wants to be recognised for his valour but instead he has earned the animosity of his Captain. He is also hoping that his recent promotion will help him secure his own lands. However, when Jacek rescues a young woman and her brother from being slaughtered, the consequences are grave. Having determined that Oliwia and her brother have no family and are not Russian enemies he escorts them back to the castle in his homeland. Meanwhile, the rivalry with his Captain grows and becomes more dangerous.

Jacek has always put his duty as a Hussar first, but that was before he met Oliwia, now he just hopes that he can survive the hidden schemes and keep her safe. This was a real page turner, with an enjoyable and exciting storyline, plenty of action, vivid combat scenes, and of course romance. I was hooked from page one and the plot twists kept me guessing until the cliff hanger ending! The descriptive narrative really brought both the era and the setting to life and the historical details made me feel as though I was back in the 17th-century. The author has obviously done her research and knows the era well, I learnt about the Hussars and a part of history I knew little about whilst still feeling fully immersed in the story. The fast paced narrative and engaging storyline kept me happily turning the pages and I look forward to reading the second novel and continuing with Jacek and Oliwia‘s story.

The Heart of a Hussar (The Winged Warrior, #1)The Heart of a Hussar by Griffin Brady
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jacek Dąbrowski is a young man who lives in the Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania in the year 1610, he is one of many brothers and sisters and is no stranger to tragedy, so when it was his turn to become a fighter in the Army of the Commonwealth, he trained from a young age in horsemanship and weapons training and was enrolled into the Hussars, a troop of cavalry men identifiable by the wings on their uniforms.

After one particularly bloody battle at Kluszyn, Muscovy they have victory, but at the price of one of their Lieutenants, however, when they find that some of the enemy combatants have fled, Jacek and a couple of the others follow them to try and wipe them out. When they return to the camp, it is to find out that their Captain is not as pleased to see them or Jacek, especially Jacek and makes the effort of trying to tear his performance down in front of the other soldiers, but Jacek cannot understand why. They also find that they have been given orders saying that they are allowed to return home, however, the supplies are limited and a small contingency are soon split off from the main caravan to go to a local town to try and acquire some extra supplies.

When they get to the town, they find it in the midst of an attack and in flames. The Hussars have arrived too late to help the villagers, however, Jacek finds one young girl and a small boy being attacked by a soldier and rushes in to rescue them. This is where Jacek’s normally calm exterior and strong sense of duty briefly flees his mind and finding that the two don’t have any family left or a place to call home, he decides to take them along on the trip home and instil them there.

During the trip, Jacek gets to know the two children and finds that he takes on the role of protector on, especially towards the young woman, but does not let it interfere with his duties, however, as the time passes, he realises that he has grown very fond of the young lady as she matures into a beautiful young woman, however, he isn’t the only one to have noticed this. As Jacek’s relationship with his commanding Captain deteriorates further and a rivalry develops as ones jealousy affects the others prospects, but will Jacek be able to keep his promises to himself, or will this rivalry stand in his way and what of the young woman who has stolen his heart, will she give hers in return? This is a historical romance full of battles, friendships, rivalries and love, where there are more secrets, twists and turns than genuine feelings and relationships as this story crosses boundaries, both physical and emotional throughout.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Heart of a Hussar is a very well-written and engaging historical fiction. The characters are well-written and engaging and the action sequences are amazing. There is plenty of growth and character development. The author does a great job of putting you in the character’s shoes so that you experience all of the love, frustration, anger, sadness, and excitement that they feel. There were parts that actually reduced me to tears. I would have loved a little more interaction between the lead couple after the first quarter of the book but all in all, I enjoyed the book immensely. There is a second book in the series that I will certainly be picking up. I cannot wait to read the continuation of Oliwia and Jacek’s journey.

The Heart of a Hussar (The Winged Warrior, #1)The Heart of a Hussar by Griffin Brady
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Heart of a Hussar is book 1 in the Winged Warrior Series. The story centers around a young soldier named Jacek Dabrowski in 1610 Muscovy. Twenty-two-year-old Jacek has recently been promoted to Lieutenant of his cavalry, and he is hoping his new position will help him to secure the land he desires. In his journeys Jacek stumbles onto two young orphans, 15-year-old Oliwia and her young brother, and he decides to rescue them. His rescue of the two orphans sets off a chain of events that will forever change the course of Jacek’s life.

I loved this historical fiction book and became immersed in the era so completely that I felt as though I was right there with the characters. The author clearly did a lot of research about that era, and it shows in the details of her writing. The characters of both Jacek and Oliwia were wonderful and there were so many facets to who they were and their relationship with one another. I became immersed in their story and enjoyed watching them grow as characters through all the trials and tribulations that they were subjected to.

I have been researching my family tree and have managed to trace many of my ancestors back to the 1600’s so this book made me feel as though I was in that era. It helped me better understand that time and gave me a sense of what some of my ancestors’ lives may have been like and how they may have possibly lived. The historical data included in the end of the book will be a valuable tool in my farther research. Thank you so much for including it! I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in historical fiction!

Focusing on 22 year old Jacek, one of the best warriors of the winged Hussars, a feared and deadly Polish cavalry. Jacek dedicates his life to the sword and shy’s away from anything that will distract him from getting the king’s recognition and the glory that comes with it. Stumbling upon a bloody raid Jacek forsakes his stoic personality and saves Two Muscovy siblings,Oliwia a 15 year old girl and her younger brother of 6 Filip. Their parents and village slaughtered and with no known family, they have nowhere else to go than with these men who consider their people enemies….
A wonderful work of historical fiction that was really well researched. I really love how detailed this book was. The battle scenes were so vivid I could picture everything so clearly in my mind. I found myself drifting into the 17th century and feeling what it would be like to live in that time. I also loved the development of the characters and their relationships through to the end. A great choice for a date with a book!

This is such a fascinating historical fiction read. I was intrigued from the very beginning and enjoyed learning more about Poland and their struggles in the 17th century. The characters drew me in and had me rooting for them from the get-go. I enjoy reading books where there are twists that don’t line up with what I think is going to happen. And this book did not disappoint in that aspect. In fact, I was left a little heartbroken at the end of this book and will have to read book 2 to see how it all ends!

Stepping outside of my normal genre, I fell in love with this book from the first chapter. This book is full of war, heroes, bad guys, and romance. Jacek Dabrowski is the newly appointed lieutenant of the Hussars has much to prove to the Captain and the Lord Eryk of Biaska’s. As a village is destroyed, the Lieutenant rescues the village sole survivors, a younger girl, and an even a younger boy. Oliwia, the young female survivor, becomes Lady Oliwia when it is found out that she is a lady of title. After much time Jacek and Oliwia’s friendship blossoms into a little more but when Jacek is away on campaign and Lord Eryk’s wife Lady Katarzyna passes away, could Jacek and Oliwia’s relationship end before it started? This was a great book and I can’t wait to A Hussar’s Promise, the second book in this series.

The Heart of the Hussar is the first book of two in The Winged Warrior series. Set in the seventeenth century during a turbulent time in Eastern Europe, the story draws you into another time and place. The detailed story is not overridden with so much detail that you get tied down in the details, but instead, you are transported back in time. The characters are fascinating and help bring the story to life. I didn’t want to put this down. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and reading more in The Winged Warrior series.

When I read the first couple of pages of this book, I thought that I was going to have a difficult time reading it. I was incorrect. The story takes off and is incredibly easy to follow. What I was taken aback by early on was this incredibly detailed sexual assault incident. There is no trigger warning on this novel and I strongly feel that there should be due to its graphic depiction.

Otherwise, I loved this novel. You can feel the love and tension between Oliwia and Jacek through the entire book. I want to yell at both of them to just kiss already. They have so many barriers to overcome before they find each other. More yet still to overcome. An incredible read, I truly recommend to any reader looking for a detail oriented romance.

This book took me completely by surprise! While I have read historical fiction before, I have never had one engulf me quite like The Heart of a Hussar. It was an amazing mixture of history, action, intrigue, and romance. Once I started reading, it was difficult to put down. Griffin Brady provided not only historical information but also wonderful character development and the right mix of everything so the details didn’t bore the story down. The romance was not the sole focus of the book, but it provided just enough drama to make it that much more interesting and entertaining! As a history buff with a major in International Relations, this was the perfect book for me! I’ve studied middle east politics and history in the past, so the book taking place in the middle east was also an area of interest for me when it came to choosing what to read next. The author clearly put a lot of work and research into the writing of this novel, evident in the amount of details and accuracy of the information within.

The characters in the book are all very well-written, the plot is intriguing, and the book ends on a cliff-hanger- all the makings for a fantastic, hard-to-put-down read! Even though it is my first read by the author, I am already a huge fan of their writing style and can’t wait to read more by them, in particular the second novel! I’m not always a big fan of male leads in books because they are always so cocky, and don’t learn. But I fell in love with Jacek. His character progression had me baffled. He was confident in himself but humble and you don’t see that very often. The story progression had me for a ride. It was steady but fast paced, it didn’t bore me and wasn’t too slow.
