Rebel Heart (The Immortal Kindred Series #2)Rebel Heart by Clara Winter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rebel Heart by Clara Winter is the second book in The Immortal Kindred series. This could be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the first book before this one. Annie is a spy and captured by Hessian soldiers in the 18th century. Later she meets Millicent and finds out she has a unique secret. Will she be brought into Millicent’s world?
I really enjoy the characters and like we are getting their backgrounds as well as how they are living in the current world. The story is well written and kept me wanting to know more. Annie is great because she is smart and strong but also has her weaknesses. I also enjoyed seeing more of Millicent and Alexandre. I look forward to reading more in this series. It is smartly written and I like the combination of the past centuries and current day.

A great read about fighting. Annie is a spy working towards the American independence in the 1700s. When she is captured by Hessian soldiers, she thinks her number is up. To her surprise, she is rescued by Captain Thayer Emmerich and lives another day. But things get complicated when a codes spy book goes missing. With lives on the line, what lengths will Annie go to to fight for what she believes?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Annie full of fierce spirit but kind underneath or Thayer as quiet and reserved but still doing the right thing. Great cast of supporting characters like kind friend Benjamin or sweet Millicent or the cruel Emilia. A great example of using a different perspective for the sequel telling Annie’s story.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like the town with the busy streets full of life and people with its horses and carts and little cottages as vivid as if you were actually there with its sense of history. Or
with the dagger small and elegant with its embellished designs. Or the vivid sense of colour with the dresses with dark blues and bright reds and stark whites for a sense of colour contrasting against the darkness of night and the cemetary perfectly written.
I loved the mix of fantasy with the vampires and the realism of the history of the time period combined together beautifully for a great read. Fast paced action and high stakes made for a captivating read. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

Rebel Heart (The Immortal Kindred Series #2) by Clara Winter was an hooking engaging read, that had me flipping the pages.

Not my first read by this author or in this series, so I knew going in that I was in for one hell of a story. I met Annie in the first book, and though she played more of a background roll (till the end,) her story intrigued me and I wanted to know more. The book takes us back to when Annie was a spy, we get her story, and we get to meet a new sexy vamp Captain Thayer Emmerich. Annie said in the first book you only get one chance of true love, and now I’m wondering if she meant this sexy piece of dream fiction.

Told in dual POV, we not only get to experience Annie’s life before Alexander, we get to see through the eyes of Captain Thayer Emmerich. Witnessing the cold captain fall under her spell, was a treat, and it added unexpected layer to this already complex book. I enjoyed his evolving character, it was well balanced. Normally I lean towards one MC, but with Annie’s equally intriguing character development, I can’t choose, and I don’t want to. These two matched, they’re overlapping story matched, and I loved every second of this star crossed lovers story, caught in a deadly spy game.

If you haven’t guessed I highly recommend this original fresh read, so please take my stamp of approval, that you will fall under Annie’s and Captain Thayer Emmerich spell.

Happy Reading

Deepest Midnight (Book One of the Immortal Kindred Series) By Clara Winter
5 Stars!!!!!

I love finding new authors as well as new series. I also love books with Vampires. This book was just my cup of tea! The author had a very unique take on vampires and I found her characters to be quite refreshing.

I found that I was really routing for Millicent. I like how the author was able to intorduce parts of her past to enrich the book and help to get to know her character better. I also enjoyed how the author was able to bring the drama into the book. I quite enjoyed how the author was able to draw out the intrigue and the murderer wasn’t really obvious at first. I really enjoyed this book from page one and cannot wait to read more from this author and this series.

At first this is a little slow. I noticed it in the last book as well. Please don’t let deter you from this….keep reading….don’t give up. It really drew me in and I wanted….no needed to know what was going to happen. It just seems there is a lot of detail (to the houses, trees and such) that I don’t really need but others might enjoy. I just want to get to the story. The talking, the feelings and the action!

Meeting Thayer…he has lived his life always thinking one way….whichever way his maker says. Once Annie enters his life he finally starts thinking along a different line. His growth through this story was wonderful. I enjoyed this guy as a character.

We met Annie in the last book and this is her story. How she came to be with Millicent and Alexandre. I am saddened by her and Alexandre’s relationship. I would have thought after 200 plus years they would have gained a camaraderie. As for Millicent I would not have realized the close friendship they had if I had not read book 1. They seemed more distant in this one. Benjamin…well I about had tears in my eyes when Annie went to visit him. Good friends are hard to find.

I highly recommend reading Deepest Midnight (Book 1) before reading this. It gives you a better idea why things are the way they are in this one. As for the ending….What the Heck? I didn’t see that coming and can’t even imagine what the next book will be about. Crazy!

Rebel Heart (The Immortal Kindred Series #2)Rebel Heart by Clara Winter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Clara Winter’s Rebel Heart is the second book of the Immortal Kindred Series. Rebel Heart is Annie’s story, who played a supporting role/secondary character in the Deepest Midnight, the first book of the series. In Annie’s story, we’re taken back in time. Of note, this story includes both the past and present. As the story unfolds we learn more of Annie, who she was, the choices she made and how they’ve come to shape who she is today. It’s not often that an author’s second story in a series outshines or surpasses the previous book(s), but Rebel Heart has done that. Clara Winter’s storytelling is creative, fresh, appealing and full of emotional charges – both positive and negative. I have fallen in love with this series as essence of the pasts reconnect with today, it’s truly an invigorating read.

Deepest Midnight by Clara Winter is the first book in the first book in the Immortal Kindred series. The story is set in modern-day Savannah, Georgia with some flashbacks to the 18th-century French court. Millicent is an immortal vampire who meets an actor who looks like her long lost love of ages ago. I really like Millicent and other characters. I was drawn in by the story and loved the flashbacks to her mortal life. The secondary characters were great. I really look forward to reading more from this series.

Deepest Midnight was a brilliant read; I was hooked from beginning to end. The author‘s writing was excellent, the story flowed well, it was easy to read and very engaging. The author’s attention to detail was great which made it even better to read. The characters were well thought out and developed well over the story. Vampire stories are amongst my favourite paranormal romance reads but I do find sometimes they are much the same so I liked that this one was a little different, I could tell the author had really thought about what she was writing about and which direction she wanted her characters to go in. There was a dark undertone to the story too which I particularly liked. I enjoyed the little snippets into Millicent’s past and finding out more about her.
Overall I thought that this was a fantastic paranormal romance read with some great twists and turns which left me guessing what was going to happen! I am really looking forward to reading book 2 in the series and I highly recommend this one!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book has a little bit of everything in it from paranormal to vampires to romance. The author’s attention to details made me feel as if I was right there with the characters. Annie is my favorite. She is a little weak but on the other hand she is strong too. She doesn’t like how Thayer can make her feel powerless but on the other hand he makes her feel. Will they find their HEA even though they are fighting on opposite sides of the war? I highly recommend this book.

Deepest Midnight (The Immortal Kindred Series #1)Deepest Midnight by Clara Winter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Deepest Midnight: Book One of the Immortal Kindred Series by Clara Winter is a paranormal romance that quickly became an addictive read. Set in Savannah, Georgia, this story has all the historical feel of that location in the character interactions. Add in attractive vampires, this story took on a twist that gives the story charm, allure and intrigue. Millicent is the heroine, who is fractured/flawed, from her past. Her character was strong, yet vulnerable. When she believes fate has changed her path, she cannot avoid not pursing that. However, not everyone is willing to let things fall as they will and that brings in the drama of the story. It was detailed, well written and an addictive pleasure to read.

Deepest Midnight (The Immortal Kindred Series #1) by Clara Winter was an engaging read that had me hooked from start to finish.

My first read by this author and I’m impressed. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a good paranormal romance, especially one involving vampires, and I will tell you I had this book read in one sitting. This book had a mix of everything, it played with the normal tropes and clichés, but didn’t overload, and gave more substance to the vampire lore. This book had this dark tone throughout. Even when there was cause to be happy, that lurking darkness was still there, letting us know this book is anything but.

There is one thing I want to touch on and highlight, that really pulled me into this book, and that was the flashbacks to Millicent past. They were giving little by little at first, just a sneak peek here and there into her oastself, and into a time long gone. It gave us just enough that when she reveal her whole story, you were engrossed, captivated and didn’t want it to end. In truth, if the author wanted, could make a prequel going more in depth with what transpire not only between Millicent and Julien, but what transpired after her change.

Overall this book is a solid read, and it’s a solid start to what will probably become my most anticipated series of this year. So please take my super high recommendation and my golden stamp of approval, that this book will put you in a trance and you will not be able to stop reading until you get to that bittersweet ending.

Happy Reading

5 out of 5 stars

The story Deepest Midnight: Book One of the Immortal Kindred Series by Clara Winter is a paranormal romance book. It is a story that hooked me in from the very beginning and didn’t let go until I had read the final page. I loved the attention to detail that the story has and it felt like I was right there with the characters experiencing what they did. I loved reading about the character of Millicent. She is an immortal/vampire who still feels grief because of the past. She finds herself caught unaware when she finds herself looking into the eyes of a man who looks just like her long dead love. She meets him and finds out the man’s name is Jack. I could feel the desire and attraction between them. While they label what they are doing as having fun, it is not long before Millicent feels strong emotions for Jack. One of the issues she must face is Alexandre, Millicent’s maker and companion who is firmly against the relationship. What will Millicent do? Will she give in to Alexandre as he is the one that has protected and saved her in the past or will she go forward on a path of her own choosing, one that could lead her to happiness again? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had me turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. Millicent is a character that I grew to love with each chapter that I read and found myself wanting her to be happy. I found that the story flowed smoothly and enjoyed the transitioning from the modern day setting to the 18th century. My emotions went up and down with the characters throughout the entire book. Don’t miss out on a wonderful romance story that includes immortals/vampires and kept me mesmerized until the end. It is a book I would highly recommend reading. It is the first story in a series and I look forward to reading the next one.

This is a creative, easy flowing and the twists and turns I didn’t see coming left me on the edge of my seat story. This is about Millicent who gets turned by a mysterious man, Alexandre. But then she meets Jack, is it possible that he is her true love? They will leave you questioning reincarnation, will they make you believe? I enjoyed the characters as they brought the story to life for me. I can’t wait to see more from them in the future. I highly recommend this book.
