A well written fantasy book that took me to places I didn’t expect. Sloane , the main character we meet in the very beginning is strong and is finding her way. Her friend Alvie is exactly the one Sloane needs with her. The author writes beautifully and makes it easy to think we are along side the characters as they deal with their experiences. Thank you for reminding me how much I love fantasy books and bringing this beautiful work to us readers.

The Befallen, by Cambria Williams is a thrilling fantasy story. Sloane, who just wishes to not be invisible, embarks on a journey alone that her father would normally accompany her on. However,
he cannot come this time and she has to be strong and go by herself. Sloane is disabled from a birth defect, but she doesn’t want to be special, just seen as a person. When she returns, things are not how she expected them to be. Tolvar has not had it easy but upon crossing paths with Sloane, he acquires to be better.

I absolutely loved Sloane and her strength. I felt the characters were well written and the depth of the development had me turning pages until the very end. I highly recommend and although this was my first book by Cambria Williams, I would not hesitate to pick up another story by this author!

Sloane was finally trusted by her family to go to the neighbouring town on her own to sell things at the market. Since she was crippled, all she ever wanted was to be considered “normal”. She loved not being on anyone else’s timeline and ended up staying the night. The next morning when Sloane returned home, everyone in her town was dead. The befallen had struck down the town in the night. Sloane immediately felt guilty for surviving. Deciding to move on in hopes of finding a life in a new town, she meets a group of knights whose sole job is finding the unsung hero of the prophecy, Sloane decides to help since she knows more about the moon goddesses and the prophecy itself.

Tolvar is a banished knight who is part of the group previously mentioned. He would rather get drunk somewhere and relax. He doesn’t think Sloane will be of any help but when she proves it by providing useful information, Tolvar gives in and lets her join the group.

I really enjoyed this book. I like how the author wrote one of the main characters as a handicapped person who doesn’t let that stop her. Sloane is strong and resilient. Tolvar is grumpy and closed off but somehow the couple makes it work for them. They work well together as an unlikely pair and I am excited to see what they do next.

Sloane, the female main character, lived a simple life as an apprentice to her father’s leatherworking in a small village. When Market Day comes around, Sloane gets the opportunity to sell their wares alone, despite the trip being long – especially with her disability – and finds success in her small adventure. Soon after, while on her way back home, she discovers something horrible has happened…the curse of the Befallen has claimed the lives of those she once knew. On the other side of the coin, we learn about Tolvar, the male main character, and his life as a disgraced knight and the struggles of his own life. The paths of our two main characters cross and become intertwined as they try to solve and remedy the problem that is the Befallen. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The Befallen is a dark fantasy with such a complex world and plot that it’s sure to hold your attention within the first few chapters and throughout the book.

Picking Up The Befallen by Cambria Williams, I was unsure of what to expect. Reading the book’s details I saw that it was a fantasy knight style book( which is not my usual go to fantasy read but Omgggggg, I’m soooo happy I gave it a go. It was good, really Imaginative. This book sends you on an incredible journey with some amazing characters. It has a slow start but really picks up in the second half but even when slow, you will be intrigued to keep going. I know I was! 🥰 it also have some good action scenes. I really cannot wait for more from this author in the near future.

I really enjoyed this fantasy romance. It’s the perfect reluctant heroine meets brooding love interest, which makes for a truly wonderful pairing that I always enjoy and in this case there’s just some gorgeous chemistry between the two main characters. The setting and world-building were also fun to read, with just enough magic to make the entire novel feel beautiful and special. A really lovely read.

This book is a very strong start for this author! It is written so well, as if she has been writing for years. I love fantasy books and have read many. The author was able to create a fantasy world that draws you in. Sloane is a great character and as you are taken through her journey, you are kept on the edge of your seat. I hope this author continues to write because although I can’t imagine her getting better, I cannot wait to see what else she has to bring to our imaginations.

This book features a society that is beleaguered by an evil plague. One that is not spread by germs, yet kills groups of the living nonetheless. Legend says a hero will save them all. But what makes a hero? Who gets to decide what type of people have it in them to actually be a hero? Ultimately, this is a book about faith. The faith to believe, and the faith to become.

I really enjoyed reading about Sloane. Her character fit absolutely perfectly with the story and, for me, that just added to the whole experience. Her strength was obvious, even in the face of such challenges. This is a brilliant and engaging story and I cannot wait to see what else this author will produce.

This book is the debut novel for this author. This is a fantasy novel. It started off kind of slow for me but to be fair, I don’t typically read fantasy so I’m just not used to this style of writing. These characters were so well written. You feel Sloane’s persistence and strength. Sloane doesn’t quit and it really inspires especially given everything she’s had to overcome. The book was so well written you’d never know it was a debut novel. It made it worth reading!

While fantasy is not normally my jam, I’m glad I gave this book a chance. If you enjoy fantasy, this one is definitely for you!

I am not usually one to read and enjoy fantasy novels, but wow, this one was fantastic. Cambria Williams developed an incredible cast of characters, especially Sloane and Tolvar. The story was a little slow to start, but it didn’t take long before I was completely enveloped in the story. The search for the Unsung and the trials faced by Sloane and Tolvar make this story a great one. This novel has knights, ancient lore, legends, goddesses of the various moons, and so much more. I felt like I rode an emotional roller coaster through the reading of this book, and would ride it over and over again without a question. Excellent book.

I have to admit I love finding new authors and books. This was definitely one great find. I love to be plunged into the dark fantasy world that this author has created. I like the fact that the main character has a disability and will not let it hold her back. I love how the author is able to bring the characters to life. The story is created and it unfolds leaving me wanting more. I really did not want to put this book down and I really cannot wait to read more from this author. This was a great diversion from my total favorite genre of paranormal romance.

The Befallen (The Unsung and The Wolf Duology) by Cambria Williams is a great dark fantasy book

Sloane, sheltered, yet persistent, believes she’s capable, and longs for everyone to see past her disabled leg. Selling at Market Day unaccompanied is the chance to prove herself. But when she returns home to her village, she’s shattered to discover the Befallen has killed everyone. Having nothing but her faith in the goddesses of the moon, she’s forced to test her strength in the outside world. Sloane realizes the kingdom is dangerous even without the Befallen: full of thieves, thugs, and, worse, heretics.Sloane is further shocked no one seems to know the entire legend, which promises a hero will defeat the Befallen. When she learns an order of knights have vowed to fulfill the legend, she’s determined to help them.

Every page had you hanging on every sentence and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a very unique story with even compelling people. The story transports you into this world. I couldn’t put the book down.

The BefallenThe Befallen by Cambria Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Breathtaking introductory novel. This is only her first book and I feel she will have a wonderful career ahead. The talent Cambria Williams brings into the imagination was inspiring, and original. Dual perspectives Sloane and Tolvar.
Sloane is like every kid growing up that helps their father, looking forward to the day they are “old” enough to do it on their own. We meet Sloane on that day, she is to walk to the next village, Asana, to the market to sell her father’s leatherwork and return home for the Prodigal Moon Celebration. Enjoying a night in the next town filling her belly before the fasting for the moon goddess, she waits to return the next morning. Sloane is not just any girl but one with physical limitations, a nine-mile walk requires a great deal more time than the average person. She’s never dissuaded and happily allows herself time for safe travels only when she reaches her village, Mohn, it is only remnants of people she knew. The Befallen had attacked in the night while she was away sucking the life out of everyone in the village. The next day she settles to return to the neighboring village to start a life for herself only to be robbed on the way and then find Asana had been devoid of life as well while she was gone. Tolvar is from Capella Realm and only on the island of Deogol in search of the “mythical” savoir from the Befallen, The Unsung. Only his scars run deep, and he is happier at the bottom of a barrel of ale than keeping faith in his “redemption”. Many in the land have forgotten the words of Edan Lore, Sloane, being from a very devoted village has not wavered in her faith but struggles with being seen only for her physical appearance and truly being seen. She has something powerful within her, waiting to be seen.
What will happen when Sloane and Tolvar come face to face? Will her faith be enough to save her island from darkness and ruin? Everything about this world the author creates pulls you deeper into its realm. The language, the descriptions, the emotions. The characters are everyday people, at least to a point, Tolvar is a knight, but I digress. Sloane is a common girl from a tiny mostly unknown village, with a disability, and the faith to keep her fighting with all that she has even after she has lost everything she ever known. Tolvar has suffered the loss of everything he once held as important and now struggles with his own guilt and hunger for redemption that he no longer holds faith in until he finds Sloane. I truly cannot wait to see what this incredible new author has in store next.

The BefallenThe Befallen by Cambria Williams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was captivated by this story. It is a fantasy adventure where the battle between good and evil rages on. But what makes this story so magical for me was Sloane. Despite her disability, despite everyone’s opinions of what she can and can’t do, despite her own self doubts and fears she constantly pushes herself forward to find a way to save the people around her. Her strength and faith shine so bright through this story it was beautiful.

When she returns to her village she finds that it has been destroyed by the Befallen. Now she finds herself alone and in need to find a way of stopping the Befallen before they can strike again.
But her journey won’t be a easy one, there are dangers in the outside world she never knew existed and then she has to convince people that what she is telling them is true and not just a myth and a story.
When she meets Sir Tolvar he is reluctant to believe her story. He has his own demons to deal with and believing this story could lead him even more down the wrong path. BUT what if what Sloane says is true, this could he his chance to redeem himself.
So together they set out to find the secrets of the Befallen and find a way to destroy them but what happens when some obstacles have both of our hero’s doubting themselves and their abilities.
Will good win over evil this time or are the odds just stacked to high against them.

This book was captivating and the character growth throughout the story was great. The author’s writing was so good that I felt like i was actually there going on this quest with Sloane and Sir Tolvar.
It is a great fantasy adventure.

The Befallen is the debut novel by Cambria Williams. Anyone can be a hero given the right circumstances (and attitude) and anyone can find redemption if they seek it. Here Ms. Williams shows us how a disabled young woman and a banished knight come together to save the kingdom, becoming heroes, finding redemption, and finding themselves along the way.
It’s a bit of a dark fantasy adventure with magic, challenges, a curse, emotion, good vs evil, an epic quest, high stakes, friendship, redemption, courage, and hope.
A great introduction to this author’s writing and I am intrigued by what she might do next.
Happy reading…

Thank you, Cambria Williams!

This was such a great read! Sloan’s journey was both captivating and deeply emotional, making it impossible for me to want to put this book down. A mythical land that was cursed and is suffering a plague that kills people as they stand. The magic of the moon is so captivating, that, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to look at our moon the same. The second half of the book half really picked up pace and swept me up away in the whirl wind of adventure. It was all so fantastic! I highly recommend!

WOW! This beautifully dark fantasy is absolutely stunning! I cannot believe this is the author’s debut because it is phenomenal. It was like diving into another realm from the very first page and experiencing everything firsthand. Sloane, Alvie, and Tolvar are exceptionally well-developed, and they will have you fully invested within a few pages. This experience pulled on every heartstring I have as the author expertly draws every emotion out of you. We get a well-built world with plenty of background in the beginning, and then I promise it picks up like nobody’s business. I couldn’t put it down once I started because I was obsessed with finding out what happened next. If you enjoy anything slightly related to the fantasy genre, this book is absolutely your next read!

The BefallenThe Befallen by Cambria Williams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book that I have read by author Cambria Williams, as this is her debut dark fantasy novel, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and her writing style.

The Befallen is a strong debut novel, in all honesty, I would not have guessed this to be her first book. Her writing style is so smooth and lyrical. I devoured it in one sitting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy, and definitely to those who enjoy dark fantasy. The thing I loved most about this book though is how it is a representation of disability but still being able to make such a big impact and change in the world.

The characters in The Befallen are well developed and easy to love, as well as relate to. You can tell Cambria Williams put a lot of thought into her world building as well, and it is absolutely spectacular. Even though there technically are “slow” parts where you are learning in depth about the characters, it did not feel slow. The author engages you on a deeper level and it just feels natural. The story is a wonderful mix of “info” and plot.

This is a story that will take you on a journey, that has a strong message of faith and hope. It is such a beautiful experience to see, and feel how the MC’s, Sloane and Sir Tolvar, crave to find their self-worth and place in the world. Sir Tolvar is looking for redemption and Sloane is wanting to be seen more than a “cripple”. As some who struggles with a disability, there were an insane number of parts where I just sat and cried. I felt Sloanes pain and longing as it is mine.

Sir Tolvar and Sloane set out to find a cure for the curse that has caused Sloane so much pain, and in the process Sir Tolvar also strives to become a better man. The journey is a waterfall of emotions, so get ready to be on a rollercoaster. The characters have so many obstacles they must overcome, and I held my breath at every single one. There are times where I was angry and frustrated at what they were being put through, and at other times I was jumping for joy cheering them on.

The ending is so beautiful, and I look forward to reading more from this author!

Sloane is on her own for selling at Market Day to return home and find the Befallen has killed her small town, including her family. Sloane gathers the courage to travel on her own, only to find life is harder and cruelty has a large place in the world. Along the way she meets Sir Tolvar, a knight with a drunken exterior and a past he has a hard time facing. With a few friends picked up along the way, Sloane finds herself surrounded by unlikely allies who are wanting to take down the Befallen.

This was a very unique story. You are pulled in right away and you think the story is going one way to only take you on a different path. Full of surprises, I really enjoyed this one very different then the books of the genres I have read.

The BefallenThe Befallen by Cambria Williams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Befallen is a poignant story and is Cambria Williams charming debut dark fantasy tale. It is a unique and engaging tale that is cleverly crafted together.
It is a story with all the feels, a story of faith and longing. Where ones worth and place in the world is what our MC’s are longing to find. One a reluctant drunk and moody/grumpy Knight Sir Tolvar needs redemption from past. The other a young woman Sloane has had to overcome so much in her life. She has a disability and just wants to be seen as something more than a cripple, to mean something.
When Sir grumpy meets Sloane, he is inspired to become a better man and decides to help her on finding a cure for the curse that has stolen her whole world from her.
These wonderful characters are well written and will make your heart melt and I was rooting for them against their fight to stop the Befallen before it destroys more. Other characters were just as good.
I look forward to more from Cambria.
