This is a wonderful addition to this series. Book two picks to years after Julia accepted Samuel’s offer of helping them overthrow the Vampire King. We find Julia still developing her powers and abilities, while also acknowledging that she’s light years away from her full potential. Thinking they’ve got plenty of time on their hands for her to grow into her own at her own accord, they are shocked to learn that Valentino himself had shown up determined to find those within the resistance.
This paranormal storyline is a bit complex but not overwhelming, so all levels of readers should be able to follow the intricacies in the plot and character growth. While you can read this book on its own, I think the reader will get the full effect if they take the time to read book one as well. Either way, you will be entertained and intrigued.
The author did a fantastic job adding to Samuel and Julia’s journey. I think both characters are impressive, especially when trying to determine how best to beat your nemesis when strength alone will not allow you to protect yourself and your team.

Pursuit into Darkness is book 2 of a 3 book series and it brought a lot more to the story of Julia, Adam and Samuel. The development of new characters, several twists and turns and so much more. As with book 1, I am not typically drawn to vampire books, but this series is a good one and has very strong character development and a strong storyline. If you enjoy vampire books, I would highly recommend this book and this whole series. The author really puts the reader through a roller coaster of emotions in book 2 and I look forward to how it will all come to a close in book 3.

I am not normally a fan of books about vampires, but this was definitely an interesting book. The characters had very strong development and I found an immediate draw to the main character Julia and her struggles with her father and the expectation of arranged marriage, but mostly the strength she needs as she deals with the years of torment at the hand of her husband. The vampire element was intriguing and provided an interesting solution for Julia. This book does have a lot of emotional triggers, which could be difficult for some readers, but I really did enjoy the story and all the different relationships and connections between the characters. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

70 years after the first book Julia had taken Samuel’s deal. Now she has powers and strength that she is learning to wield. We follow along with characters from the first book along with Julia and Samuel. The ka-tet is still learning to work together. Valentino has now learned about the threat to his throne, and the inevitable clash is looming closer and closer. The cliffhanger at the end should be absolutely illegal, and I can’t wait to read more into the third book!

I absolutely loved reading this first book. It was a little hard reading about Julia and the abuse she endured from her parents. Being forced into an arranged marriage and not being able to be with her true love was heartbreaking. When she is presented with an interesting choice have her freedom to do whatever she wants, BUT she has to join the vampire resistance, OR stay where she is at now. Watching her process her thoughts and emotions over this choice was interesting. I can’t wait to see what goes onto the next book and see how Julia’s choice pans out for her!

This is a POV of the Third Installment, Between Darkness and Light. It has been decades since Lane Marlow was condemned and found himself on the run. The Vampire King Valentino has ordered for poor Lane to be killed on sight, which has made his life on the run even more difficult. Book One ~ Lost Soul Let me start off by saying YES. Just so very much YES. If you love historical, paranormal, adventure, and a touch of romance, this is absolutely the series for you!! Julia, our main character, comes from a flourishing family in 16th century London. Her sweet love is turned sour when she is forced into an unwanted arranged marriage, and she finds her life spiraling out of control. But what happens when someone offers her a deal to take back control of her life, and the ability to fulfil her desires? Even if the cost is throwing her life into a completely new kind of chaos?

I have read the whole series to War of Destiny, none of the books has disappointed. The author really blew me away with this story. This isn’t usually my typical type of books I read, but I loved them. The world building and characters was well thought out. The details was on point. There wasn’t unnecessary details. I can’t wait to read more by the author!
Between Darkness & Light is the third book in the series. Each book I got into, each one got just that much better. They were a page turner for me. This one was full of adventures. I never knew what was gonna happen next. That made me continue to read because I wanted to know what happened next. I highly recommend starting with book 1.
Lost Soul is the first book in the series. I really loved the whole series. Lost souls had amazing world building and characters was well thought out. You can tell the author took time writing this series. Each book was very unpredictable, which kept you reading because you wanted to know what happened next. I highly recommend reading the whole series!

Theresa Van Spankeren is one of my new favorite authors of all time when it comes to the paranormal! The War of Destiny series has me on the edge of my seat and wanting more! I am so excited for this series to continue! Theresa Van Spankeren outdid herself on this one, adding a new character, Lane, to our cast of characters that we’ve grown to love and seek retribution for. Fallen Soul Book #4 in the War of Destiny series will not disappoint in one bit! This book follows Lane as he is on the run from Valentino’s minions, on a quest to get home safely. He runs into a group of vampires who seem to live very differently than anything he’s ever known. Will the beloved group we’ve been following since Book #1 be the answer to Lane’s problems or will they be another obstacle in his path? Lane questions whether they be friends or foes. I am in awe at how amazing the War of Destiny series by Theresa Van Spankeren is getting. I did not think anything could stand up to Book #1 but this is now by far my favorite in the series so far! Juliana has betrayed her people and now must seek help from her old Ka-tet partner Matthew, but will he turn her away or will they be able to work together to figure out what is going on? Will these apparitions that Juliana continues to see ever make sense, why are they haunting her so? This series just continues to grow on me more and more as I progress in the series. I had no idea the characters could continue to develop any more than they already have, but as I delve into each new book they continue to grow in detail, and I understand them even more fully. Theresa Van Spankeren continues the War of Destiny series with Book #2 Pursuit into Darkness. I could not put this book down from the second I picked it up! Despite it being 70 years later for Juliana, for me no time had passed at all, we jump right back into the life and adventures of Juliana and all of her vampiric friends. There are so many well-developed characters that we fondly remember from War of Destiny Book #1 as well as some not-so-great new characters that we get to know more. I just love how full of action and excitement this series is, and love that it helps to fulfill my love of reading about vampires and the magic surrounding them. Lost Soul is the first book of the War of Destiny series by Theresa Van Spankeren. This book had an amazing development of characters, they were so realistic. Juliana, our main character is such a strong, vibrant young woman when we first meet her in the story, so full of life and hopes of a future filled with love. This is sadly not the future that she is meant to have, and it just broke my heart! The abuse that she endures amazes me, it is so realistic, you feel like you are right there with her, feeling her fears, her pains, and her grief over a life that she was not meant to have. This book is so intriguing, it primarily takes place in view of Juliana’s life and all that she must endure, when there is a knock at the window, as she answers the call her whole life will come to a fork in the road where she needs to decide which path she wants to take, remain in her personal hell, or accept the help of this stranger. Julia is a young woman in appearance, but in reality, she is a vampire and albeit she is young in comparison to others, she has had to endure more than most. It is well known that vampires gain abilities as thru age, but Julia instead struggles with a feeling akin to madness, but all that changed when she was confronted by something impossible and this is where the truth became known and finally, accepted.
After all that happened in the build up to when she betrayed the Resistance and her ka-tet, between hearing voices, seeing apparitions and realistic dreams, all the trust her group had built up was destroyed and Julia has been trying to make up for it ever since. They all thought she was delusional and so did she, but this harm went deeper than anyone initially realised, so when Julia is at her most defeated, the light finally shines through and help is sought from another group of vampires who can hopefully teach Julia about her gift, the ability to see and hear the dead, something which hasn’t been seen in centuries and would explain why Valentino was able to take the advantages which he did.
This is when it finally looks like life can get back in track in a manner of speaking and when the Resistance find out that Julia isn’t insane, they want proof, but will Julia be able to master her gift enough in the time frame they give her, or will Valentino come to throw another spanner in the works? This is another fast paced installment into this paranormal romance which is full of action, adventure and vampires galore as you race across countries, as time runs out and complications arise to detail any attempts at normality.

She has done it again. This book doesn’t let you down. It’s full of action, suspense, and romance. I was so happy to see some old romances picking back up. I’m glad some friendships were reinforced. Be prepared to be enthralled until the last page.

In this last installment, Julia’s character comes back as front and center into the story and she is still coming to terms with this special ability of using and hearing people that are not seen by others. She then discovers it is a very rare gift, which is a valuable asset to the Resistance, which is something she must prove to them. As a result, a big setup with human hostages ends up taking place. I most definitely do not want to give too many details to readers. Please make sure you read this series from the beginning! The sequences are much more deeply appreciated as well as learning more about the characters to see where they have been and to where it leads them. It is a bit sad to see this series end because I truly fell in love with the story itself as well as the characters. Van Spankeren put so much great detail and character development into her novels. It is worth the journey!

Unlike the previous books, which was from Julia’s perspective, Lane takes center stage in this book as he finds his own path of uncertainty as to which group he belongs to. In certain ways, this book kind of reminded of the Bree Tanner novella, in how her perspective was told by the author and struggles with identifying her group’s purpose or being guided by her own intuition. I’m quite a fan of alternate character perspectives as they give you insight into how characters are viewed differently and how interpretation of circumstances can be constructed quite differently than originally imagined.

This next story in the series starts off with Julia’s realization of being able to see and hear people that others cannot and as a result, leaves her ka-tet family clan to join Valentino’s. She is unfortunately rejected within his group and tries to mend the previous broken relationships to feel a sense of belonging again. Just like the previous two books, lots of action continues into this novel as well. In emphasizing Julia, she senses her loneliness a lot more in this book. Hoping things do change around for her in the next two books in the series.

Soul Redeemed is the 5th book in the War of Destiny series, and they should be read in order to be able to follow the timeline of events. Typically I am not a fan of vampire stories, but this series has surprised me more than once and kept me interested and engaged throughout the series. With this book, we are back to Julia’s POV, and she is trying to learn to control and hone in on her powers to prove to the resistance they exist and how special they are. The trouble is, Julia is on a time crunch. She has to learn as much as she can before Ka-tet or the villagers are destroyed. As things get more chaotic and stressful, Julia struggles with self harm, and eventually, how to cope with recovering from that. Will Julia get a hold on her powers and overcome the resistance? Will Valentino get to her before she is strong enough? Can they overcome all of the obstacles that keep coming at them? There is so much to unpack in this one. The world building and ever-continuing character growth shines through once again. This is an amazing vampire paranormal series and I hope to see the story continue again! Reviewed by @zoltrixes

Book four of the War of Destiny series is a bit different than the previous three. This time, we are seeing things from the POV of Lane and Fallen Soul is a re-do of book three from his perspective. I actually enjoyed this, as it shed some light on his past and showed us why he is the feared loner. Lane has been wanted for a very long time. When Julia approaches him in a friendly and respectful manner, and not in fear or hatred, he is intrigued and amused. As he becomes closer to her and her group, he struggles with upcoming decisions. Should he stay the solo vampire he has been for so long? Or should he join the group that is willing to accepting him as one of their own, and the power struggle with Valentino that comes with it? Can he ever be truly trusted and accepted, or is he better off alone? This installment really put things into a different perspective and helped us understand just who Lane is, and why he is the way he is. If you are into vampire stories, this is surely a series you will enjoy. Reviewed by @zoltrixes
