Portrait of Deception (A Southwest Suspense Novel) by Kathryn Dodson – Review by Kerry Carr

Portrait of Deception (A Southwest Suspense Novel)Portrait of Deception by Kathryn Dodson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was an amazing gripping thriller of a read. I was hooked from the first page. The authors story telling was amazing and there are so many twist and turns than I never saw anything coming that happened which made the story even more enjoyable for me. I love Margo’s character. She is a very strong determined woman and even though she hit rock bottom she fought to not stay there. There are a lot of people around her who are bad for her and as she starts to realise this and get rid of them we see her progressing into an even stronger person.

Margo was on the brink of having everything her heart desires. She was a talented photographer and now that was going to be recognised when she wins the Butler Prize. Along with everyone knowing her name she would get praise and love as well as it opening doors to plenty of jobs. She felt her life was all set on the right track. She even got a job offer to photograph a politician. After finding out she falls in love with her subject he wants her to photograph him and is determined to make her is. So when she refuses the job he wasn’t going to that lying down.
After leaving the party with someone she trusts what happens next changes her life.
She passes out and wakes the next morning to her hotel room completely trashed and no idea how it happened. Add to that the fact she has to pay for damages and because of this display of bad behaviour she loses her award and all the job opportunities offer to her. In the space of a few hours she has lost everything and doesn’t know where to turn. She does however still have the offer from the politician, that 1 job could solve her problems and get her life back on track but can she survive 2 weeks with the bullying man.
What awaits in at his private castle? Will she be safe or is her gut instinct to stay clear of him right?

This was a thrilling read and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Lost Property
By: Samantha Adair

This is a fantastic book. It follows Tom who is newly retired and is working to live his life outside of his past with the agency with his girlfriend Isabella. However, the past has a funny way of interrupting your plans. When a past case comes calling, Tom begrudgingly agrees to get involved. This past case involves a human trafficking ring, and those that he helped are now in danger again. He definitelly finds himself sucked right back into the case.
This book is so fantastically well written and is hard to put down. It is suspenseful and thrilling and filled with twists and turns. Each time I thought I knew what was coming, I was very wrong. I definitely recommend reading this book and the whole series!

This is the third book in the Tom Grant Series. It can definitely be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the rest of the series just because it is such a well written page turner. This book is filled with action, adventure, spying, and out and out drama. It is written in such a way that I definitely did not want to put it down.
Isabella and Tom are such well written and complicated but in a good way. They both keep the plot moving at a rapid pace. Isabella has promised her dad that she will go home. There is no telling whether she will return alive or dead when she leaves there – you see there is is a bounty on her. Tom is going with her because he doesn’t want to be without her. What happens from there is what makes this book so good. Samantha Adair does a fantastic job writing a plot that moves at a good pace that you really don’t want to stop reading. This book was filled with twists and turns. Definitely pick it up!

Mission Target (Jake Wolfe Thrillers Book 7) by Mark Nolan – Review by Heidi Sturgess

Mission Target (Jake Wolfe, # 7)Mission Target by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve done myself a huge injustice ! I’ve not read all the books prior to this and I feel like I robbed myself 😢 so take it from me and start st the beginning not because I felt lost or confused but purely because it’s been such a good read 🥰📚

Drugs on a good day are bad news but when they’re being used as a weapon we’ve got serious trouble on our hands but Jake and Cody 🐾 are a team one shouldn’t underestimate 😉

I was quite worried and fearful at a stage because Jake was getting closer to answers and that means there’s a target on his back and both have their own issues to deal with yet they kept their cool . I love their relationship and dependence on each other , bonds between man and animal are so much tighter than that of human to human , animals are fearless and loyal but Cody is a kind and gentle character🐾

A mail biting edge of my seat read and again I just want to say start at the beginning 😉❣️📚

This historical / thriller / fantasy series (seriously, it’s all those genres put together) is back for its third and final installment and I’m a little sad to see it end. I love the fast pace, the suspense, the adventure of it all. There’s so much detail in the world and the characters are compelling, which makes the reader kind of fall into the story themselves. This book had me hooked, as did the rest of the series. Highly recommend!

This has been one of my absolute favorite series! I cannot say enough good things about it. This is not one you should read as a standalone because they only make sense in order with all background provided. They build off each other quite a bit. This book (and series) is captivating, thrilling, and you won’t be able to put it down so clear your day! The flow of the story feels natural, and the characters are very well-developed. The author makes it impossible to NOT be fully invested within minutes. Can Julia save her husband or is his fate sealed? Do yourself the biggest favor and pick up this series, you won’t regret it!

This is a series that I highly suggest reading from first book to last. It will help you understand where the characters have been and where they are going. I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. This is a well written story that is engaging and hard to put down. Julia and her group have one last chance to free her husband. What happens is something you don’t want to miss. I enjoyed watching the growth of the plot throughout the story. The characters are relatable and add so much to the story. Master of the Abyss: The Epic Conclusion to the Painted Souls Series is the third and final book of this action-packed series. Julia is trying to save her husband and others from purgatory while stopping Salvatore della Porta from reigning over the globe with his cult of followers. There are the dual timelines that started in the first two books of the series. I enjoy how the author delves into the rich past of 16th-century Venice while balancing it with the contemporary timeline. This is definitely a series you need to start at the beginning but trust me; it is worth reading the entire series. The story, characters, and action keep you reading and not wanting to put down the book. Though this was the last book in this series, I will keep an eye out for more by this author.

This is the 3rd and finally book in the Painted Souls Series. I do recommend reading them from the start so you get the complete story and you won’t be disappointed. Reading them from the beginning also helps you to understand the switch between times from the past to present day. I can imagine without knowing the reason for it, it would make the books confusing.
These books are historical thrillers. They are books you can’t help but get lost in. Their is romance, danger, evil, past and present and countless souls needing to be saved from purgatory.

With Julia’s husband Nick’s soul trapped in purgatory it is a race against time for her and her friends. They need to stop Salvatore della Porta from taking over the world by Veritism—the one religion and they need to save Nick’s soul as well as the souls of other people who have been trapped and condemned to purgatory. Will Julia and her friends be able to find the ancient relic needed to save everyone and stop Salvatore or will they run out of time?

This author has weaved a fantasy tale in this series. One that has you gripped and on the edge of your seat. I am sad that this is the last book but I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definately read it again.

This is a fast-paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I would suggest reading the other books before this (this is book 6)…I did not head my own advise BUT I was able to pick up the characters and events rather quickly. I just feel that I would have had a better understanding of the enormity of everything if I would have gone back into the series and started from the beginning. I absolutely loved the characters in the book and while it can get overwhelming hearing from them all…I fully believe it’s necessary to the plot because they just add so much to it and it would be hard to do it any other way. I also liked that Tom is just your typical retired agent who just can’t let the life go and it’s through hard work and dedication that he’s able to do his job. I highly recommend picking this book (and probably the series) up if you like fast-paced, action-packed thrillers that will keep you on the edge of your seat…and if that’s not your cup of tea…branch out and try it…you might like it 😉

Isabella is heading back home in order to keep a promise she made her father. He asked to be buried in their homeland and now that he has passed, Isabella is heading back. After escaping the dangerous and chaotic life she was involved in, she now has a huge bounty on her head and no idea who put it there. She doesn’t know who to trust as even her friends, or who she thought were friends, are acting strangely. This was a fast paced book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The twists and turns keep you turning the pages and hoping that Isabella and Tom make it out unscathed. I have gone about reading this series by reading the last book and then the middle, but I didn’t feel too lost. I feel as though these are alright to be read as stand alone stories, however there are some instances where it would have been helpful to read the previous books for more of a back story. In any case, this was a great book.

Poor Tom thought he was going to be able to live in peace once he said he was retiring. When a couple of women show up on James’ doorstep and refuse to talk with anyone but Tom, he gets sucked back in when Isabella asks him to do this one last favor. Everything is tied to the old case he was involved in, Operation Sweetpea. Someone amongst them is leaking information that should have never gotten out and it means life or death. Will he be able to finally bring a close to Operation Sweetpea? Lost Property was my first crack at reading this series and I absolutely enjoyed it. Tom is pulled from retirement after two girls show up only willing to talk to him. Learning there is a third girls from a group that could bring down a major kidnapping ring; it becomes quickly apparent that was no longer retired. I love thrillers with fast faced action and this book did not disappoint. I haven’t read any other books in the series but the author does a really great job at “introducing ” characters. Her descriptions effectively give sufficient background but also their personalities. I knew I was going to enjoy this book when I found it was written in character point of views. This writing style is not for everybody but it was done very well and didn’t feel overwhelming. Great read. You won’t be totally lost if you haven’t read the first books in the series but as someone who hasn’t read them, I feel like things would have made more sense if I had.

I highly recommend picking up previous books, but if you happen to read this as a standalone, I believe you’ll be able to catch up with the background provided. If there was an “unputdownable” genre, this book would be at the top of the list. I ignored all my responsibilities for the day because I could not stop reading this book! I love that it is told from different points of view throughout the story, and the suspense is absolutely top notch. Tom finds himself in danger again trying to carefully figure out who he can trust and who is determined to see the end of his days.
