I enjoyed this fantasy story. This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed her writing style as well as her attention to details that made the story engaging and hard to put down. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the characters. They are relatable, strong, supportive characters that I enjoyed watching grow throughout the story. This is a story that took me on an adventure of a wolf disease that is taking over. The question is can Joanie end this disease before she is the next victim? I enjoyed where the story took me and the twists and turns that had me coming back for more. This is a story that is full of fantasy and is fast paced. I enjoyed how easy this story is to read and entertaining. This is a great story that filled my afternoon with fantasy. I highly recommend this book.

Now here is an interesting take on Lycsnthropy! This is not your average werewolf story this is most definitely al well researched medical thriller mystery Fantasy all rolled into one!
This book starts with a fire that has destroyed the lab of a very promising scientist (joanie) who was just looking for a cure for chronic lycanthropy syndrome, a genetic disorder triggered by a virus.
lost and overwhelmed losing her life’s work, she then is notified that shes inherited property in the ozarks from her grandfather who is missing but presumed dead… she thinks she can find some refuge here in a place from her childhood but instead she finds complex relationships, deception, Mystery, missing people, drama, friendships, chemistry, danger and so much more.
This book was pretty good, if you find yourself struggling in the first part keep going the story will pull you in and then you won’t be able to put it down! 4/5

Wow! This book was just so darn good! The story had its own aurora of being compelling, and it was a very quick read and easy to fall into. It was very much enjoyable, I loved the way the author had the story flow, and how things went about! Needless to say I am waiting for the next installment!
I loved how the story takes flight centering around the work of Joanie who is looking into her own personal research for an issue, but along the way things happen and come up that really test and question everything. I loved the fact pace of the story, the secrets that arose, the questions that came, as well as the questions that I came up with as I read. I felt I was right beside Joanie with her adventure. Things were far from what they seed at first when I was reading, I loved the discoveries that were made. The author made the visionary very real as well. The book was addictive and impossible to put down!
Loved this book and I am going to love the rest of the series! The book was a wonderful start of a new series, and I can not wait to read more in the series and see what happens as the books continues. The author is amazing at what they do! Highly recommend this book and series, a must read!

Great read! The Last Cabin Girl is set in the not so distant past of 2020 during the beginning of the pandemic. I’ll admit, I was a little weary at first because it’s still happening, but I was intrigued. It was definitely an out-of-body experience to see a character in a novel behave in ways that were common practice just 2 years ago. I remember thinking to myself, if I didn’t know better, I’d think it was weird to be wiping down your groceries with a disinfecting wipe…but that was the norm at the beginning of the pandemic. It was definitely eye opening and a bit disconcerting LOL. I really liked the pace of the book. Swyers keeps his readers interested and hooked from the beginning. There are twists and turns throughout the entirety of the novel. Some I saw coming and others I didn’t. At first, I really didn’t like Josie, the protagonist, because I found her to be heavily unreliable; however, all-in-all, it was her unreliability that came through in the end. I really admire her tenacity throughout the novel even when she was faced with what seem to be very truthful facts. I really liked the underlying theme of family that Swyers addresses and I think that it can resonate with many people, especially during the pandemic. Overall, the book was really well done and I would definitely recommend!

The Last Cabin Girl by Tom Swyers is a twisty thriller with plenty of mystery, intrigue, dramatic development, murder, secrets, and more. This is the first book that I have read by Mr. Swyers, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of his books. I discovered a tense thriller, that for the most part, had me guessing the whole way through. It twists and turns, things are not as they seen, and you don’t know who to trust. Josie has escaped an abusive marriage, relocating to her parent’s cabin in the woods with her two children. Ever watchful for her psycho ex-husband, Josie is hypervigilant, noticing everything around her. Strange things begin to happen, not the least of which, floating bodies in the nearby river. When the FBI become involved and Josie is suspected to be a serial killer, things get tense- queue the intrigue. Josie will need to face her past, as well as the dark secrets that surround her, in order to get to the bottom of things in an endeavour to clear her name. The story is woven around the pandemic and set in a small town- which adds to the overall feel of the story. The characters are well-crafted into fully developed individuals with their own quirks and flaws. We definitely see Josie develop and grow over the course of the story. I felt that the story was a little slow to get going, and Josie’s journal entries didn’t help matters. Whist they did add to the backstory and storyline development, as well as building some tension- they were quite long-winded and, in some cases, ran off on tangents. I felt that they really slowed down the whole flow of the story. I do understand what the author was trying to achieve, but to be honest, I just felt frustrated with most of the journal entries, especially in the beginning. Overall, I did enjoy the story. It has certainly left an impression- so I will be going back to explore more of Mr. Swyers soon. Happy Reading!

I should preface with this is the second book in the Benoit and Dayne Mystery series and I once again didn’t read the first book first because I was so impatient that once I had this book I immediately devoured it! This book was a thrilling rollercoaster that had my wheels turning over and over. The two main ladies were well thought out and brought an edge to this story that made it over the top in the best way! I was biting my nails like a kid held in suspense and I was drinking it in like a fine wine! I honestly couldn’t say enough good things about the author and how well written she is. She truly spun a web that I was stuck in immediately and when I began to unravel it I was just blown away more and more! Definitely a book that will make its way onto my physical shelf to enjoy over and over!!

I liked this book way better than I thought I would. The beginning was a tad slow. But it definitely set up the background information for what turned out to be quite a read. I didn’t realize I had read the entire book until it said “The End”. The characters were well developed. The author did a great job reinforcing the small town feel. Evil sushi gives me syfy television vibe. Like on the level of sharknado. Entertaining but really out there. I also was concerned how zombie sushi would come in to play but the creativeness of the “zombies” surpasses what I imagined. I cannot wait to read book 2. Hopefully we get a few more answers. Book 1 left me needing more. Do your self a favor and read this book!

I read this second book first and had to go back and read the first book I loved it so much. Aileen’s whole world is turned upside down when her brother gets the mutant virus. Something happens around every corner. Wow, just wow I loved this book.

This book was a fun and amazing read. My imagination was stimulated word by word with vivid descriptions and all the character interaction. A story very much outside the box and immensely engaging. I started the books out of order so I read book 2 first and then moved to book 1, and that is where I gained a great deal of insight.. This is story that is relatable and has a pandemic type feel. There is angst, drama, deception, mystery, deceit, intrigue, and a twist at every turn. It starts with 2 fisherman who unleash a worldly nightmare and the story begins from there. It will truly keep you on your toes and have you guessing.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It won’t be the last. This story was unpredictable and left me guessing to the end. A body shows up near Josie’s cabin, she is the first to be suspected. She is trying to protect her children by divorcing her abusive husband and clearing her name of a murder she didn’t commit. Who can she trust? Is everyone who they seem to be? I enjoyed that it was set in current times with the start of Covid-19 and the fear and confusion we all felt.

With a name like Evil Sushi, I wasn’t sure exactly what I was getting myself into when I started reading this book, but I was wonderfully surprised to discover this thrilling tale was just what the title suggested: something terrifying yet playful. When reading this book, I discovered that this book touches on a lot of different things that I was thinking about over the last few years. I’m sure we’ve all thought about the effect our choice in diet has on the environment, even in passing, and that’s why this tale gave me chills. The classic horror nowadays centers around the impossible: zombies. But what if that terror came from the sea? What if our future looked just a little more like the apocalypse with sea life? Just a little on the joking side, but wonderfully serious at the same time, this book will have you gripping the edge of your seat and expectantly waiting for the next in the series!

This author is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I have read several of their books and so far I have yet to be disappointed. This novel however was not quite what I expected, the cover and synopsis prepare you for the unexpected but I was not prepared for all the twists and turns that this book had to offer. The premise of this series is very original. This book picks up where the first one leaves off, dropping us in a dystopian atmosphere, where things are quickly falling apart. The originality of the overall story, as well as essentially relying on fisherman to save the day, makes this book interesting. As with most end of the world type stories, the government does not want to believe in the supernatural, they just want to conquer. But the refreshing part of this book are the ones who do believe and definitely want to do the right thing.
This is a book where you definitely have to read book one before you start this book. I have read many books between reading book one and two, and I personally would have liked more of a recap of what happened previously. I was a bit lost throughout the story, not remembering exactly what previously happened. Besides that, this was a unique, interesting book that is unlike any I have read before.

A gripping crime thriller full of plot twists and turns that kept me both hooked and guessing until the last page. This is book two in a series featuring, Eckardt County Sheriff Elizabeth Benoit, and Deputy Lila Dayne, however I read it easily as a standalone story. Two years ago Lila survived an attack by a serial killer, but is haunted by dark memories following her many surgeries and rehab. Even as Lila begins to get back to normal, she can still sense him watching her. Meanwhile Sheriff Elizabeth Benoit is determined to bring down Eckardt County’s corruption, but then two bodies are discovered, bearing striking similarities to the serial killer’s victims. One has a very personal message for her department, and sadly the pressure gets too much for Lila and she pushes everyone away. As Elizabeth tries to stay connected to Lila, the killer is closing in on his next victim and he seems to want to finish what he started. Lila must overcome her fear and trust those around her, as Elizabeth and her deputies desperately try to catch the killer. This is a tense and immersive read, and you can feel the suspense mounting with each chapter. An engaging read which I recommend, and I am keen to read book one in the series now, and hoping for a book three!

What a gripping Book. From the moment instarted reading this book really caught my attention. I found myself on the edge of my seat, reding quicker and quicker to try and see what was going to happen. I had to read the book in one sitting. I was not expecting this book to ring so true! The tale of what happens when human greed, misinformation, and ignorance all compile together to bring humanity to the brink of starvation and poverty! Or, is it a story of what our realities will become soon if we don’t focus on the larger picture? DUN DUN DUNNNN. In all seriousness, it is a creative take on a far fetched future based on realistic issues. Brought on by a theory that certain foods were to blame for causing damage to the globe, the over indulgency of another food has turned the world desolate. As it goes, large corporations took a once lucrative past time and monopolized it. Small time farmers make a discovery that has the potential to change this, or will it? Evil Sushi keeps you guessing. An enjoyable read that really makes you reflect on the state of our current world. It is at once entertaining, and a little sad. I am definitely intrigued to see where the story goes next.

I really enjoyed this book however through no fault of anyone but my own, I did not realize that this was book 2 in the Evil Sushi series. I felt a little lost but was definitely able to still enjoy due to it being such a well written book. If you are looking for a thrill and suspense this is a great book that will deliver! It gave me strong Siren tv show vibes in one sense and I just really was into it as much as I could be! I am going to be reading the first because that way as I continue I will feel as though I’ve got the whole story down! A first for me from this author but clearly not my last! Very fun read!

While I liked The Last Cabin Girl and the overall storyline, I struggled to remain immersed in the mystery surrounding Josie. The author was very descriptive but at times, I felt distracted from the main suspense I was supposed to be engaged with. The author has us focused on Josie, mom of two who has left her abusive husband at the beginning of 2020. Josie is suddenly dealt with murder charges, family secrets and a scary soon to be ex-husband getting too close for comfort. The tangled web of secrets that unfold is fantastic, even if a bit unrealistic. I would definitely recommend for a quick and twisty read.

This book was really fun to read with such a unique concept. The characters were really engaging and relatable and it made me want to find out what happens to them. What stuck with me the most is the things we do to our environment and what would happen when we take more than the earth can give back. I recommend this book to anyone looking for something fresh and exciting that will give you an adrenaline rush!

One of my favorite things about reading mystery/thriller books is trying to solve it as I go along. Boy- this one was a toughie! The characters are so raw and brilliantly written. I couldn’t decide if Sheriff Benoit was my favorite or Lila Dayne. They were both written so vividly- it was easy to empathize with them. The storyline was fleshed out and had so many twists and turns I had a difficult time putting this book down- even to sleep! I finished this book earlier and I still can’t get it out of my mind. This was not what I expected. I was thoroughly surprised. I was hooked from the beginning. I was on the edge of my seat while reading it. I felt so many different emotions while reading this book. I felt horror then certain parts I was laughing. I highly recommend this book.

Sashimi is the follow-up of Evil Sushi, and picks up right where book one left off, so you will want to make sure you read that first! That being said, I enjoyed this one much more than the first one. I feel like the author and characters both evolved and improved in this book and I read it cover to cover in one sitting. I was intrigued with how much was going on, but not overpowering each other. You have some danger aspects, environmental issues, secrets, and mystery shrouded amidst a “pandemic” type situation. Evil Sushi had me interested, but not fully in love with this series, but Sashimi changed my mind fully, and I am completely onboard. This is definitely a series unlike any other, and worth the time to read it. I think this series will be interesting to people from all different genres and there is something for everyone. I will definitely be looking to read book 3, Wasabi

This is nothing like you have ever read…unless you have read a book about evil fish. Local Fishermen, Rod and Ned, thinks they have stumbled upon a new species, but soon find out maybe that isn’t ALL that they have found. Just in case you are wondering, this is not about zombie fish, that would just be silly, wouldn’t it? I enjoyed this one as the unique paranormal read that it was. I wouldn’t put it down as the BEST book I have read but it is far from the worst. I appreciated the down to earth, easy to follow characters and relatable aspects of “what COULD happen if….” This will easily appeal to quite a few people from different genres and was worth the time. I will also be reading the next one (Sashimi) so that should tell you it isn’t awful. If you are interested in unique and intriguing paranormal aspects, but not like anything else you have read, give this a try.

I jumped right in to see how Sashimi, the second book in the series, continues the story that started in Evil Sushi and I wasn’t disappointed! The author does a wonderful job with the characters and scenes, so that I am easily able to connect with them, understand what they’re thinking, and I quickly get hooked into the story again! I liked seeing the relationship between Rod and Sally develop and see the characters grow. The story moves along at a good pace, has some danger, issues with the environment, mutants, and so much more. Sashimi really has multiple aspects that I think many readers would enjoy.
