If you read my review on the first novel in this series, you would know that I was not a huge fan of the character development. Well, let me tell you, after reading the second I am impressed. The character development I wanted was there, I just had to wait!
Still an incredibly original storyline as the first in this series was. You definitely need to read the first in order to understand the second, but you will not be disappointed. Very fast read, and the author keeps you on your toes throughout.

The best word I can think of to describe this book is shocking. It was not anything I anticipated. From the summarization, I was expecting a dystopian world full of crime. Both of those are relatively true for this novel, but not in the way I originally had in mind.
The author kept me entertained with surprise until the very end, but to be honest I was a little disappointed with the characters. I love getting to know the characters in more detail, but you do not learn much about the main three (Rod, Sally, and Ned). You learn enough to understand the plot, but I would have loved more detail about all of them. Overall, this was a very original story line and would recommend to any horror or thriller reader looking for a different plot line.

I’m a sucker for a good serial killer story and this one was right up my alley. Two years ago, Lila Dayne was almost a victim of the I-80 killer but survived. After surgery, healing, and therapy, she moves to a small town in Iowa and takes a job as Sheriff Benoit’s Detective Deputy even though she fears the killer’s return. In the midst of a terrible flood in their area, Deputy Dayne discovers a dead body. She immediately knows the I-80 killer is behind it and spirals out of control knowing he is on the prowl to finish what he started. Can she keep her mind clear enough to help her team find the killer before it’s too late? I loved this book and didn’t realize it was book 2 of a series until after I got started. It can definitely be read as a stand alone but I’m going back to read book 1 because I loved the characters. The author did a great job making this book thrilling to read and created characters with depth and believability. I’m also looking forward to book 3 when it comes out!

This was a pretty good book! It held my interest which is sometimes something I struggle with when reading new authors and when I haven’t read the first book in a partnership series. Lila being a survivor of a serial killer attack added a depth to her character for this genre. Her teamwork with Elizabeth was well crafted and connectable. I definitely will need to go back and read the first one!

I love a good thriller and this book did not disappoint. Josie Thompson is a mother of 2 trying to divorce her abusive husband and start a new life. Josie is soon pulled into a case that has similarities to something she witnessed in her youth. This is a story that pulls you right in from the beginning. It is well written and intriguing. There are a lot of twists and turns to keep the reader intrigued. I thoroughly enjoyed trying to figure things out, only to have it veer in another direction. It is a fairly quick read and I found Josie to be an interesting protagonist. Though there is a bit of pandemic talk, it does not detract from the story. A great book! I look forward to the rest of the series.

This is my first book by this author and I am now a fan. I was hooked from the beginning. All the twists and turns made it almost impossible to put down. The characters were created and developed amazingly. The setting that the author created made you transport there. I highly recommend this book.

This is the first book I have read by this author and didn’t realise that it was the second book until I was over half way through. I didn’t feel like I missed anything because Winter gave us enough information from the first book. So, reading as a standalone is no problem. It is a crime thriller that is suspenseful and intriguing. The story is told in third person and has intense thrills, spills and chills and has a lot of grit. It is a haunting tale of murder and mayhem, vengeance and power, mystery and obsession that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The mixed cast of characters are complex and fully realised and likeable.
This is one series you don’t want to pass by. Prepare to be captivated by Winter’s writing skills.

Oh my goodness, this is book 2 of the Evil Sushi series. Sashimi is a wicked evil mermaid type monster and Aileen is out for revenge. It’s hard to to keep up with who’s more trouble-General Talbot (idiot military) or the Evil Sushi (creeping ocean and more). Aileen, Rod and Ned are facing challenge after challenge. Susy is part of that challenge. They do their best to come up with ways to stop it but it seems their is some evolution going on? Man, I’m loving this story. Aileen is already pissed because Sashimi snacked on her brother Charlie and left him all but dead. Aileen is pretty badass and strong. She’s going to get through this. She has one more brother to protect. She find’s out Susy is being naughty and calls her out. Go, Aileen! Rod deserves better. The writing is such that you root for these guys while hoping the worthless military that is left get eaten. The characters are great. Ned is your average older man just trying to make a living and now disappointed in his kid. Aren’t most of us? The plot flows smooth for going back and forth a bit. The theme throughout the story is conservation and I love how the author took that and ran with it. That ocean life fight back. I can’t wait for book 3 in the series. This book also has a creepiness factor because it just might make me not want to put my feet in the ocean. It’s a really good book and I recommend it. So good and so creepy at times. It will make you think about things.

“Sashimi” is the second book of the “Evil Sushi” series by C. A. King. I was glad I did some research and read “Evil Sushi before reading this book. I would have been lost trying to figure out what was going on. This book picks right up when the first leaves off. The action continues in this story as we learn more about the characters. There are defiant unexpected twists and turns in this book. I will be picking up the next installment of this story. I have to know what happens next.

Especially when the FBI think she is a serial killer and charge her with one of the murders. Can Josie rely on anyone’s help? Her family that has kept a dark secret from her all her life? Or the town that has mocked her since childhood? Will Josie be able to clear her name, or will she forever be separated from her children by a life sentence? I need more!!! This book had me transfixed from the first page to the last! It was gripping and riveting with the perfect amount of twists, turns and real world aspects that make you never want to put it down! Josie is a wonderfully strong protagonist who goes through so much in just the first few pages. I felt really emotionally connected to her character and how the town viewed her. I really appreciated the setting of Upstate New York, being from the area it was so easy to picture the beautiful landscapes Swyers wrote of, and the river I grew up next to. It made it feel all the more real to me. I’ll admit it was strange reading about Covid 19 and the start of the pandemic through the eyes of Josie, and Swyers, it almost feels like something that should have only happened in a book and not what we have been going through the past few years, it really put things in a new perspective. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a really great read!

Talk about a fun ride! I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters; and I don’t even like fishing! We start off in a world not to different from a possible future for ourselves in which food has become scarce and fish became a commodity that we over-exploited to the point where there are almost none left. When a commercial group comes through the small town of Treacle and uses explosives to “fish” they open up the ocean floor. Our Main characters Rod, a fisherman and tinker/genius, and Ned, old-school sea-dog fisherman. Head out to fish and use some of the technology that Rod has cobbled together to try and make a haul. Upon discovery of a fissure that the explosions opened up in the oceans floor, they manage to make a massive discovery and a catch. They bring their catch home to Ned’s place where his daughter and Rod’s love interest Sally also lives. The fish are something none of them have ever seen before and seem to be a miracle and the answer to their prayers. Letting the potential money go to his head Ned lies and through some actions the fish get sold to a corporation who, of course, take the lot. The fish cause a potential pandemic, and of course there has to be a huge ancient evil from the depths to make this a true story. Add in the military, government, and corporations to the mix and you have yourself a nice mix to make sure you are screaming at your book that they could have solved this easily “If only they stopped being dumb!”. You are really in for a great ride with some awesome characters. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

5 stars! I absolutely loved this book! Right from the beginning it’s a page turner, and it kept me up reading late into the night. The author, Tom Swyers, has a way of writing that’s so descriptive it feels like you’re right there watching the story unfold yourself. The main character, Josie, has escaped her abusive criminal of a husband with their two children. She moves with the children into her parents riverfront cabin in New York. Josie finds a body floating in the river one morning while taking a walk. The same river she also found a body floating in when she was a 12 year old girl. Josie is soon being investigated by the FBI and charged with murder in relation to the most recent body. To add to the story.. Josie also discovers her parents aren’t who she thought they were, Covid-19 is taking over China and has just reached the United States, and her ex-husband won’t sign the divorce papers. The Last Cabin Girl is the perfect blend of mystery, thriller, family dynamics, and current events all rolled into one. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and look forward to more from Tom Swyers!!

Wow this is just as good as the first book, Evil Sushi! The second book encompasses the whole crew, or what is left of the crew, looking for Evil Sushi and Sashimi. All across, people living in the fishermen towns are panicking, leaving their towns and flooding the mainland’s. This is making people panic about being the next ones to fall prey to the mutated ones. Aileen is reeling from the loss of her brother while Sally and Rods relationship change in ways that I could not even begin to think would happen. I have never read a book like this let alone it be a part of a series where it did not fit the bill for one category, which makes it great for all kinds of readers! I cannot wait for the third book to see how it all ends!!

Watch out for the Evil Sushi; it’s worse than gas station sush! It’s going to get you and it’s takes a real bite out of you. Rod is feeling let down because his way of earning a living is dying due to corporate greed. He goes after one of the big boats blows up the fish and finds some unknown fish. He gets Ned and they go back and find some rainbow fish. They take some home and Sally, Ned’s daughter, puts them in a tank with tap water and salt. I loved this part because it reminded me of a furry little creature you shouldn’t get wet. Well, seems if you get salt on this fish, it multiplies. They thought this was a good thing. Nope…hence Evil Sushi. A bad, bad thing happens. Greedy people, mutants, and unknowns. Oh my goodness. This is the best food horror story that I’ve read in awhile. I love sushi but I just may have to rethink it for a bit. Those characters showed every sign of greed and bad personalities. I felt bad for Aileen and Rod. Sally had some ‘tude. Love the plot, it was entertaining and made you think because in some weird way, who says it can’t happen. Hmmmmm? I highly recommend this. I’m looking forward to moving on to book 2 in the series.

One day Rod and Ned go fishing and come across a new species they have never seen before. Rod’s camera also picked up some footage of something big, real big. They bring the fish home and realize that this could solve all their money problems. Little do they know that the fish are off. Once consumed, people start to mutate. It seems like they are turning into ocean creatures.
Rod assumed that it is the work of the big creature he saw on his camera. He also named her Evil Sushi. The three of them (Rod, Ned, and Ned’s daughter Sally) team up with the help of the government to take down this Evil Sushi while trying to figure out the mutations.
After reading this book, I immediately started the next one in the series! I’m hooked!
This book was such a fun little read. It had all the elements, mystery, suspense, romance, you name it! I loved how each character was written to have their own flaws and personality. A trio you wouldn’t think would get along let alone work together as one. Rod the quiet tech geek, Ned the bitter old man who has a big mouth, and Sally the shy old fashioned romantic.

WOW where do I even start to describe how amazing this book was?! It held my attention until the very end was jam packed with a unique storyline that had me on pins and needles. This is a horror story that is mixed with mystery as to how everyone is getting sick and becoming mutated. This book is the thing that nightmares are made of and are EXACTLY why this book is so great. It is a great example of what could happen in the future due to overfishing. I cannot wait to start the second book and see what happens next.

This book was truly amazing from start to finish. I love the suspense, the characters, and the story line the author had brought to life. It was amazing, and the writing was freaking fantastic!
Lila and Elizabeth were a great team for sure. Both had their connections to serial killer. I loved how the mystery behind everything built itself more and more as I read. I constantly was left on the edge of my seat, and breathless wanting to know what would happen next. The story was captivating, and when loose ends got tied, they really held together. I also loved the character development. The ending I would say will stay with me. I loved this book, it was a crime mystery novel that I could not help, but love!
Amazing read, prepare to spend your day reading, as you will not be able to put it down! I loved the author’s writing skills that really brought this story and the characters to life! I would for sure say that this is a must read novel, and not one to be passed up. Truly highly recommend you giving this a read!

I really enjoyed this book. It is the second book in this series. I haven’t read the first book but it didn’t take anything away from this story. The author does an amazing job of providing the information from the previous book as and when the reader needs it. The authors writing is so good that it keeps you guessing all the way through. The story was full of twists and turns which i loved and kept me gripped. The characters were well developed and are really supportive of Lila helping her to face her past and her fears.
Lila has had a traumatic past when she was attacked and almost killed by a serial killer. After she recovers she moves to a little place to restart her life. However the killer isn’t through with her and when a body turns up Lila is now scared for her life.
Can they capture the killer before he strikes at her again? What will happen when her past intrudes on her present? And will she be strong enough to face her demons or will she run away?

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is a well written story that has twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I enjoyed how the author was able to pull me into the story by their writing style and their attention to details. This is a fast paced story that is not only engaging but is hard to put down. I found the characters to be connectable and supportive towards each other. They made the story fun and easy to read. They have great growth throughout which kept me coming back for more. A story that is full of action and a killer that needs to be stopped. Will Lila and Elizabeth stop the killer before they find their next mark? You don’t want to miss what happens with these characters. They brought the story to life and made the story for me. They had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. I really enjoyed this story and the suspense it brought. I highly recommend this book.

If you enjoy watching the ABC show “Big Sky”, you’ll love this book! Once some of the details about the killer came to light, I always saw him as Ronald from this hit show! It made the reading of the book even creepier for me, but I did find this book to be more entertaining than the show!
I have not read the first book in this series so I’ll be going back to do that to fill in some holes but knowing what I know now, it might ruin some of that first book for me. This book can be read as a standalone because there are many details filled in to catch the reader up to date but there are a few things I’d like to know that were not addressed in this book.
Lila Dayne is a damaged detective after experiencing the wrath of the I-80 killer. The one thing that the killer didn’t anticipate was Lila living to talk about it. When a body shows up in the town where she’s the deputy detective, she sees all the hallmarks of her tormentor. Then the nightmares intensify and sleep isn’t to be had.
Sheriff Elizabeth Benoit is still a fairly newly elected sheriff who has not previous LEO experience. She has her hands full with the massive flooding that is occurring and now a murder victim….and then another. She needs Lila to stay on track but can she do that considering what she’s been through? Ellie is already short staffed and feeling the pressures of being the sheriff while her opponent is lurking in the background always trying to add in his two cents on how she could do her job better. Will they ever find out who this serial killer is?
This book is one that will keep you on the edge of your seat! I highly recommend this one!

First of all, the title makes you want to read this book doesn’t it? I know not everyone loves or even likes sushi but how does it become evil or what makes it evil?
The way the book starts makes you really consider what we are doing to this beautiful world of ours. Are we over eating the food source so much that we no longer eat meat and now we’re moving into decimate the fish in the sea? And what is the over harvesting of fish doing to the small coastal town fishermen? Just keep reading and find out what a couple of those fishermen find when their at the end of their rope.
This author does a wonderful job of making the reader connect with the characters. I enjoyed the twist on our world and what could possibly happen as we over populate and over farm the land and sea. The story sucks you in and makes you want to keep reading to see what happens.

3/5 Stars This book has the potential to be a great thriller read. However, the way it was written really takes the “surprise” out of any of the twists. The beginning of the book, in chapter one, I felt the ex husband’s reaction was off putting and it seemed like it didn’t fit with the actions he was performing. I spent a lot of time reading the book and not being able to truly connect with what was going on in the book. The concept of the book had the potential to really be a great read but I feel like it wasn’t executed correctly.

This is an intensely chilling thriller. Lila Dayne is a survivor of a serial killer attack. She is a deputy now with the local law enforcement office. Some sick monster places the worlds “Hush my darling” on a dead body. Now she is freaked out and Sheriff Elizabeth Benoit is determined to find out what the heck is going on. So well-written that I had chills. The story descriptions were so very detailed and just made you feel like you were there. The reliving of her whole experience gave me nightmares. The characters are very well developed. They feel twisted. Some of them feel like they could be your neighbors. Some feel creepy. I loved every minute of it. This was a new author for me. I plan to add this author to my favorites list and I look forward to reading more. I was pulled into the story from the beginning just by the way she described the storm scene. You should run to get this story.

This is an out of the box scenario of what “could” happen in the future. The author C.A King has a rather sinister outlook on what the ocean would do to us if they had the chance and ability. Is it really sinister or is it just the ocean doing to us what we’ve done to it for centuries? It really made me stop and think about what could happen if we do not reassess the way we live and eat. I enjoyed how the author introduces a small romance to the plot. The relationship is not very dynamic but it’s just enough glimmer of hope and love, to lighten the load of the atrocity happening in the ocean. I love that the author calls it “Evil Sushi”, it most definitely is sushi, by our standards, and is evil. It is a very creative way to describe what is happening!
The author switches point of view throughout the book. Some chapters, it takes a few pages to figure out exactly who’s point of view it is coming from, which can be confusing at times. Other than that, it is a very easy and enjoyable read. Definitely will be reading the other books in the series!

The Last Cabin Girl by Tom Swyers was a thriller of ultimate proportion. The story begins in 2019, a few months before the pandemic of 2020. The main character Josie is in her family’s backwoods cabin deep in upstate New York near the Mohawk River. Josie is a waitress at a small diner, she has 2 children and an abusive husband who she’s looking for a fresh start from. She’s enjoying the time spent with her family but has many worries which come out throughout the book. Josie learns that her family is hiding something from her something huge that could put them all in danger. Bodies start popping up in the river near her property and Josie is their number one suspect. There are so many twists and turns in this story it will keep you on your toes till the very end.

The Last Cabin Girl is a thrilling mystery with several twists and turns that will keep you hooked from the very beginning. Josie is a struggling mother that’s just trying to get her and her kids out of a small town and as far away from her abusive ex husband as possible. Unfortunately before she can do that she is accused of murder and now she must prove her innocence. Along the way she will uncover secrets and discover she may not have known everything about this town that she thought she did. Also during this time the covid virus is starting to appear and we get an interesting look into things from the very beginning of the virus. Great read and would highly recommend.

Wow! Besides the fact I couldn’t put it down, The Last Cabin Girl was fantastic. Definitely unexpected too! I love every second of it. The author did a phenomenal job with this piece of work. Kept it interesting with different twists and turns, plus a big twist at the climax. Also the first book I’ve read that addresses the Covid pandemic head on. Josie, the town loon, so it seems. Is losing her mind while trying to stay safe from her not so nice future ex-husband. Moving her and her children to the family cabin that her husband is terrified of due to his Chinese superstitions. One day this guy Travis turns up at her job asking her to help him find a place. Travis is a rich business owner, who is about to take his business public. Wants help finding a place in the area to remind him of his late parents and summers there. One day Josie’s husband Eddie turns up missing, and the FBI is after her. Claiming she killed him. It’s up to Josie to prove her innocence and find her elusive husband Eddie. She knows deep in her heart he’s alive and well. Even if this type of story isn’t your thing you should check it out. It’s a fantastic book that all would enjoy. I encourage all to check it out!

Evil Sushi is the first book of the series by C. A. King. I haven’t read anything by King before. This book was very different from what I’m used to reading. It is a different take on the ocean life than I had expected. Reading this book makes me think about how the world treats our planet. This was an original story, and I was wondering where this story was going to. The author chose a good place to end this story but left enough for the opening to the next installment. With all the action in this book I will have to see where the story will go.
