This is a wonderful second story in this series. While this deals with a heavy subject and it was done very nicely. Each of the two MC have dealt with abuse in one form or another. As they came to terms they realized they held an affection for each other. I liked seeing these two deals with their problems and figure out how to move forward. It takes friends and the love of family and these two have both.
It was great seeing The other Lawsons and finding out how Jamie and Kira are doing. Plus we get a look at Ben and how he is dealing with his life now. I look forward to Bens story.
This is the second book by this author for me. I like how she puts the story together and deals with major issues. It’s nice that they don’t dominate the story so we can feel for these characters and enjoy them moving forward.

Calling the Curveball is the first book in Tracey Cramer-Kelly’s Lawson Family series. It is beautifully written story of second chances that throws us into loss, guilt, shattered dreams mixed with hope, faith, family and love … it is my first read by this writer and I am looking forward to the next book in the Lawson Family series as she introduced couple of characters whose story did not get its conclusion yet! Calling the Curveball is the story of Kira Walker, recovering from a messy divorce couple of years earlier, and of Jamie Lawson who lost his wife 6 years ago along with his dream of succeeding as a baseball player. Neither of the think that they are ready to move forward until their paths collide at a little league Fourth of July softball tournament … I invite you to discover their path after Kira boldly invites Jamie on a date … will it be a summer fling or is it a beginning of a new life … you will not regret the time you spend with them and their families and friends in this small Minnesota town!

Calling The Curveball: A Lawson Family Novel is the first book in a new series by Tracey Cramer-Kelly. This was the first time I had read any of this author’s work so was unsure what to expect. Reading the blurb, this looked like just the type of book that I would enjoy and I’m so glad that I gave this book a chance as I really, really enjoyed it. Jamie Lawson still hasn’t got over the death of his wife in a car accident 6 years previously. He is crippled by guilt as he was the driver of the car and they were having an argument at the time. Injuries he sustained in the accident put an end to a professional baseball career so now he umpires instead. While umpiring a game he meets the beautiful Kira Walker, a divorced teacher who is in town to spend the summer with her sister’s family. To say there is an immediate attraction is an understatement but both are broken, especially Jamie. From here we have the most amazing angst filled story of 2 people who are obviously very attracted to each other but are being held back by their pasts. I loved the characters of Jamie and Kira and I was very quickly drawn into their story. My heart broke for them on so many occasions and being the big softie that I am, tissues were required. Be prepared to be taken on an amazing roller coaster journey filled with highs and lows. Added to this is Jamie’s awesome family members who we get to meet. I’m sure we will get to know this family much more in the remainder of this series. I already have the 2nd book on my kindle waiting for me and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this intriguing family.

Protecting His Heart: a Lawson Family Novel (Lawson Family Series Book 2) By: Tracey Cramer-Kelly 5 out of 5 stars
The story Protecting His Heart: a Lawson Family Novel (Lawson Family Series Book 2) by Tracey Cramer-Kelly is an amazing romance book. It pulled me in from the beginning and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had finished the last page. The story takes you on an emotional ride and had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading. I loved reading about the characters of Ian and Rachel. Rachel is a woman with a secret. She is one that wants marriage and a family and believed that Josh was the man to provide that. Her secret doesn’t even let her accept help from a police officer who is kind to her. Ian is a man that had a bad childhood. He has his best friend’s family to thank for his escape. He finds himself tempted by Rachel. What does the future hold for Ian and Rachel? Will Rachel leave Josh? Will Ian trust Rachel with his heart? Read this book to find out. Ian and Rachel are characters that I grew to care about with each chapter that I read. I wanted them to be happy. I also enjoyed reading about many of the additional characters that interacted with Rachel and Ian. The book includes a past that shows up, danger, and forgiveness. I highly recommend reading it.

This is the second book in this series, it is just as good as the first. This author continues to impress me with her writing skills and her ability to pull me into her story with ease. The story is entertaining and fast paced. The characters are connectable, made the story feel real and don’t forget how hot they are. It is a story for forgiving, healing and family. Two characters struggling with their demons, will they find a way to move forward? I highly recommend this book.

Calling the Curveball: a Lawson Family Novel (Lawson Family Series Book 1) by Tracey Cramer-Kelly is the sweetest second chance romance and Tracey has knocked that sucker right out the park. I haven’t read anything by Tracey before and this book has made me a fan. The story is one that will stir up your emotions and make your heart ache. Due to the wonderful writings of this author the characters are lovable and they have had so much pain and suffering, loss and guilt in their lives that your heart breaks right along with them. But there is also so much love and hope, wonder and joy to be had that you are not able to walk away until you have finished the book in one sitting. The plot is spot on and Tracey’s words make it easy to envision the world in which they live.
Jamie was on his way to the big time just before tragedy struck and his whole world imploded. He was left a broken man who is still trying to move on but struggling years later. That is until a beautiful and brave woman takes the initiative and invites him to go on a date. Could she be the one to mend his broken and battered heart?
After a messy divorce, Kira Walker is still putting her life and her heart back together and is sworn off men. That is until a visit to her sister and a ball game, someone stir emotions long buried. Deciding to do something out of character, she surprises both herself and the object of her stirring emotions, by asking him on a date. Could he be the one to mend her broken and battered heart?
I absolutely cannot wait to seeing what comes next.

Police officer Ian McCleary knows from personal experience what abuse looks like. Thanks to his best friend’s family, he managed to escape his childhood—and the small town he grew up in. Now he’s back to protect and serve those who knew him as a kid. That’s all the more reason to stick to business and toe the professional line—even as his growing attraction to Rachel tempts him to cross it.
To a dangerous present…
Rachel gave up her dream of becoming a nurse, but she still craves marriage and a family with all her heart. Josh seemed like the answer—but now she’s hiding a secret that could destroy those hopes, too. She doesn’t dare accept help from anyone, not even the handsome police officer who steps in to help her. But Ian’s kindness makes her feel things she can’t ignore…
Can they create a new future?
When Ian’s past shows up on his doorstep, his world is thrown into chaos. He’s determined to protect those he loves, but can he protect his own heart? Does Rachel have the courage to leave Josh? Can she convince Ian to let down his walls and forge a new future together?
Tracey started riding motorcycles at the age of sixteen. A month shy of her eighteenth birthday, she left for Army basic training. She spent five years in the Army National Guard as a combat medic, where she fell in love with helicopters. She went on to get her helicopter pilot license outside the military, and has spent time with search-and-rescue teams in Idaho.
In 2019 she returned to school to re-certify as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), and currently works at various sporting and music events when she’s not processing orders for the family business (Leader Motorcycle) or working at a substance abuse counseling center.
Tracey lives in small-town Minnesota with her husband, two kids and two cats. They are a true “soccer family” (she even worked as a referee for two years). She enjoys downhill skiing and spending time at the family lake place.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this second chance romance! Jamie Lawson and Kira Walker were such interesting characters to get to know, along with all of their friends and families! Six years after his wife’s death in a car accident that also ended his hopes of a baseball career, Jamie still has not forgiven himself for what happened. He certainly doesn’t feel he is worthy of the attention of the new girl in town!
Kira Walker has also been dealt a pretty bad hand when it comes to relationships. Newly divorced, she decides to leave her city life behind for the summer and visit her sister where she meets the sexy umpire and decides a summer fling might be the thing to do!
There are lots of unexpected events throughout this story that will keep you enthralled up to the last page! You truly get to know the characters and feel like they could actually be your friends. They make you want to be there for them during the bad times and to help them celebrate the good times! I am certainly looking forward to getting to know more of the Lawson family in futures works by this author!

Calling the Curveball is the first novel in the Family Lawson series by Tracey Cramer-Kelly. This is my first novel by this author.
Jamie Lawson has a bright future playing baseball until tragedy strikes, changing the course of his life. Five years later, he is still coping and trying to pick up the pieces of his shattered life.
In walks Kira Walker, who asked him and surprising he agrees but will the pain he still holds preventing him from finding love?
I don’t want to give anything away but this was an emotional story that I was not ready for but truly enjoyed. I fell in love with the characters as well as the supporting characters and hope we see them again in their own books.
The emotional roller-coaster ride from the relationship between Jamie and Kira just had me wishing for a happy ending for them and for Jamie to finally move forward in life and be happy. With such a simple plot, the story was more complex and intricate with the characters and their relationships to each other.
I hope there is another book in the series because I would definitely read it.

Calling the Curveball: a Lawson Family Novel by Tracey Cramer-Kelly and is the third book in the Lawson family novel series. Jamie Lawson always knew that his life was baseball and one accident that changed his life forever and took his dreams away. Kira spending the summer with her sister, meets Jamie and wants him to be her summer fling. Together these two both with pasts that hurt him bring out side that they both need and enjoy! The question is, can they both let go of the past and hit a homerun together? I love this book, I love the two main characters so much and Jamie’s family simply seal the deal for me. I wish the book was longer because I hated to see it end! I highly recommend this read and give it 4 stars.

When I first got the book Calling the Curveball (a Lawson Family Novel) by Tracey Cramer-Kelly, I didn’t think that it was a series. However the ending of the book kind of sets the stage for a next one to take place. I enjoyed this book so much that I hope there is another one to follow because I want to see what happens after reading the last chapter of this one. Jamie Lawson has always dreamed of being a pro baseball player and he was heading in the direction of making that happen. Unfortunately his life took in one instant when there was a wreck that left him injured and his wife dead. Since the accident 6 years ago he has made a life for himself even though he still lives with guilt and regret. Kira Walker has come into town to spend the summer with her sister, and on a whim of courage she ask Jamie out to a date. Reading about these two coming together and seeing the possibilities of a future relationship bloom between them was amazing. There was so much emotion in the pages of this book with not only Jamie and Kira but also their family and friends. This book put some things into perspective for me in my own life. This is a journey of hurt, guilt, love, and forgiveness. Definitely add this one to your reading list.

Jamie Lawson always believed he’d make it to baseball’s big leagues, but when a tragic accident leaves him maimed, and his wife dead, Jamie heads back to his small Minnesota hometown with his dreams shattered. Six years later, he’s opened his own chiropractic clinic, but guilt and grief still haunt him. The closest he comes to baseball these days is coaching little league and umpiring for the town’s Fourth of July softball tournament. He certainly doesn’t have room in his life for the pretty stranger who shows up at the tournament and then boldly asks him on a date.
The Boys—and Girls—of Summer
After an ugly divorce, grade school teacher Kira Walker needs a break to reassess her life and come to terms with being single. Spending the summer with her sister, she attends the holiday softball tournament. But how can she keep her mind on the game—and her goals—when the umpire is such a distraction? She might be up for a summer fling if it was with Sexy Umpire Man.
Sliding into Home…
Kira’s got her own share of past hurts, but as the summer—and the romance—heats up, her playful nature coaxes Jamie into rediscovering parts of himself he thought he’d buried with his wife. Kira has thrown Jamie a curveball. Will he let her walk, or will he embrace the possibility that his glory days just might be in the future, with Kira?

Definitely not what I had expected! But in a good way! Calling the Curveball is the first book in The Lawson Family Series by Tracey Cramer-Kelly. Jamie Lawson was headed to the Major League when a tragic accident happened, which ended his baseball career and killed his wife. Kira Walker recently went through a horrible divorce and is staying with her sister for the summer to get a fresh new start. There was definitely lust at first sight but after Kira got the courage to ask Jamie out things definitely went a whole other direction. Instead of this being a “summer fling,” this turned in to something much deeper. The walls each one has built up from their own pasts start to crumble and neither one of them really know how to deal with it. This isn’t the typical romance. This is much more realistic and much more raw. I was impressed that the author decided to not write full sex scenes. Not every romance novel needs it and this is definitely one that did not need it. What she did was perfect for this story. I loved all the characters and the twists and turns that came about. Kira was fun, feisty and very head strong. It was very refreshing. This story was an emotional roller coaster so make sure to have the tissues handy because there will be lots and lots of tears. All in all, I loved this story! I could not put this book down! Definite page turner that you don’t want to miss out on! I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

This little novel was one of those that was just too short! I mean that in the best way possible too! I adored it. Tracey Cramer-Kelly brought ALL the feels to the table with this one and I couldn’t get enough. I found myself tearing up several times from emotional plot twists while reading, but also because this book was over. I was so thrilled that there will be more in the series to come! Another fab bonus is that she is a new author to me so I will be able to devour her other available titles while I wait for book two.
Calling the Curveball is one of those second chance romances that grips the heartstrings. Kira Walker is re-claiming her life the best she can after an ugly divorce. Her focus is on her career as a teacher and her self-worth., not men. When she spots a sexy umpire on a summer trip to visit her sister, she decides to take a leap of faith and ask him out. She is blown away at her guts, and even more shocked by his answer of yes.
Jamie Lawson is side-swiped by Kira asking him out, but can’t find a reason to turn her down. He hasn’t had the easiest past either though. One plagued with tragedy and broken dreams it has changed him from the man he once thought he would be. Will these two be able to find happiness together long term? Or will their pasts simply get in the way and only allow for a summer fling and more heartbreak?

Calling the Curveball a Lawson Family Novel by Tracey Cramer-Kelly appears to he the first and I hope not the only look about this great family.
Jamie Lawson had dreams of being a baseball player, but that dream never came true. His life changed in several ways that day and he has lived in his own world until he meets Kira.
Kira Walker is two years removed from a divorce that shattered her emotional. Her Ex is a jerk, and to me made it seem like everything that went wrong was her fault. She isn’t ready to move forward until she sees the hot umpire at the baseball game.
This story is about so much more than second chances, it ended up being a lot deeper than I expected it to he but I don’t know if it would have worked any other way. I really like Jamie and Kira, but Ian and Ben both have my mind racing. I have to know what happened to them and where they end up.

I was pulled in right from the beginning with the epilogue. We jump ahead six years. Jamie is umping at a baseball game when he sees her in the crowd. There is something about her that he can’t stop looking at.
Kira is intrigued and really wants to talk to Jamie. It’s been two years since her divorce and he’s single. What would it hurt?
Everyone is a little messed up sometimes.
When these two start dating it was great. You could feel the connection between them. But of course real life things get in the way along with some things from the past. Can these two get past the hurdles and make things work?
This was my first read by this author and I loved it. I was pulled right in by her writing and couldn’t stop until I was done. I really liked this couple and I really wanted them to get their HEA. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. If your looking for a great story with two people looking for a second chance at love this is the book for you.

This is my first book by this author and I absolutely loved it. It’s a sports romance about two people who have been hurt deeply in the past and how they grow individually and in relationships. I was hooked from page one and I couldn’t put it down. Those are always the best kinds of books!! The author had a really good writing style and I adored the main characters. Calling The Curveball: A Lawson Family Novel by Tracey Cramer-Kelly
4-stars
Kira recently divorced her former husband. Jamie is recovering from the loss of his wife 6 years ago. The two meet at a small town game where Jamie is umping. Taking a chance, they began to date. They both have a lot of baggage from their past to work through. This was a sweet romantic novel. I found the characters easy to relate to and they were very realistic. The storyline itself was very realistic and easy to follow. I was amazed at how much guilt Jamie had to work through on top of other things. It broke my heart. Kira was such an amazing and patient woman. I would not have been able to be patient with the things she was patient with. It seemed that she grew up learning to do that though as revealed through her past story in the novel. Such a great read!

This was such an amazing start to a series I quickly became obsessed with. Baseball and Hockey are my two favorite sports so this was hands down a must read from me. It was a sweet, emotional, second chance romance that will suck you in from the beginning and it won’t let you go until the very end.
Kira is a school teacher who is finding herself after a messy divorce. She visits her sister during the summer months and is instantly attracted to the local umpire. I love how she stepped out of her comfort zone and asks him out and he shocks her by saying yes!
Jamie (aka sexy umpire) had his career change in the matter of seconds. His life changed from pro baseball player to chiropractor and umpire. The wounds haven’t healed in his mind but some Kira has changed it all for him.
I absolutely become quickly obsessed with this story. I loved the writing, the characters, the the roller coaster it sent me on. I’m so excited to see where this series takes us!

Calling the Curveball By Tracey Cramer-Kelly Rated 5 stars!!
This is an amazing story! This book is full of so many things! I pretty much rode on a roller coaster of emotions while reading. There were fun times and not so fun times. I will say these two main characters impressed me and I would completely be their friend in real life!
Jamie…just Wow! It’s amazing to me how the mind works. You my friend were dealt a woozie! You coped as well as you could until something forced you to change. Sorry I can’t say any more because of spoilers. But just know this man…..rocks! Mira….big city girl! Trying to take a break from her life. She is a strong woman who does what she needs to survive and help her friends pull through tough times. Both of these two are impressive!
I loved Jamie’s family and friends. They are all so understanding of Jamie’s situation. They also liked Kira and supported her along with Jamie….Very Nice! There are a bunch of supporting characters. Some we meet right away and others we meet later. They all are just as important to moving the story forward. I enjoyed how each has their own story or devil on their shoulder that will come out (hopefully) in later books. I am very interested in Ian and Ben…
This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed the story which flowed very nicely. The characters were deep. I can not wait to read the next in this series.

Calling The Curveball: a Lawson Family Novel by Tracey Cramer-Kelly. This is the first book in a series and I can’t wait to read the others. Its the story of Jamie Lawson a coming up baseball player who has his sights set on the professional level until a tragic accident takes that all away. Blaming himself he moves to a smaller town and tries to forget his past and it works until he meets Kira Walker who is in town visiting her sister trying to recoup from a ugly divorce. This is a story of letting go of the past and moving onto the future of forgetting old dreams and creating new dreams. A sweet and sad story that will keep your attention even after you are finished with the book.

Calling the Curveball was more emotional than I was expecting. In a good way. Jamie has a lot to work through from his past still, luckily Kira is very patient and mature about it all. I love small town love stories and hope the next books have the same sort of feel to them. You know, where everyone knows your business and you have family and friends all over who are close knit. Anyways, these two take things very slow but there are strong feelings there and a good story. I look forward to book 2.

Calling the Curveball (Lawson Family Series) by Tracey Cramer-Kelly. This is a new to me author. This was a really cute and sweet second chance romance book. Jamie was on track to make it in the Major League until he lost his wife and and career chance in an accident. What else can he do except head home to Minnesota. Now his life consists of being an umpire and working in his chiropractic clinic…… Kira needs a getaway…. after an extremely ugly divorce, she head to spend the summer with her sister, what could possibly happen?? Then she see the sexy umpire and does something crazy and asks him out. The chemistry between these two is pretty much automatic. I absolutely loved the way they meshed together. I can not wait to read more from this author.

Calling the Curveball by Tracey Cramer-Kelly is a love story built from the tragic circumstances but will Jamie be able to put his hurt aside to find love again.
Jamie thought he had it all a great career and a loving wife until one day all this comes crashing down around him, so like everyone he re-evaluates his life and goes back to his roots. Jamie decides to go back to Minnesota and start a fresh. So Jamie then set ups his new business and tries to just survive each day. Until one day while umpiring a little league a beautiful stranger approaches him and asks him out on a date.
Kiera has gone through a horrific divorce and is now reassessing her life being newly single again. When visiting her sister to re-evaluate her life she comes across a sexy umpire who she seriously has the hots for. She surprises herself asking this handsome guy out but even shocked when he says yes.
I loved this story and the dynamic between these two characters, the chemistry was great. This story follows the ups and down of tragedy, lost and just your life being upside down. The story had great pace and flowed really well. The characters were great and well developed. This is the first book I have read by this author and would love to read more in the future.

4 Stars!!!!
I like that once again I have found a new author to read. I found that the authors writing style was quite refreshing. I really liked the fact that nothing was really straight forward and that gave this book a real sense of realism. Life isn’t predictable and neither should a book be. I was hooked right to the end.
The combination of Jamie and Kira is just sensational. I really liked the fact that both had pasts and that both had to heal. This story really shows that everyone deserves that special someone. I really like how the author brought the couple together and how everything works out in the end. It really shows that even in real life we all have our dreams and desires and how when we find the right person everything can fall into place even if we have our doubts we should never give up on our dreams.I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

Calling the Curveball by Tracey Cramer-Kelly a five-star read that will knock you out of the park. This was my first read by this author and it won’t be my last, it’s in the first read Lawson family series and shows us some great promise in the family stories. Jamie Lawson will break your heart, reading his story is compelling and brutal and you know that you want to pick him up and put him back together. Thankfully that job falls to Kira Walker, well sort of, as a bit of summer fun isn’t supposed to be this hard is it? The author has such a way with her words that you will feel the pain and heartache they feel. A brilliantly plotted and planned read.

Four Stars I liked how this story used metaphors to get a little laughter going. I have never been a fan of baseball. But reading this book has me wanting to watch a few games to check out the scenery. Jamie was getting his big shot to go pro when tragedy hit his life. The lost he suffer was heartbreaking. He is very courageous for carrying on the way he did. He did have his issues but don’t we all? Kira came with her own emotional baggage. She seemed very indecisive to me. Her emotions jumped around a lot single conversations. Overall it was a good story. The characters were flawed and gave 100% to their performance. I usually can get a feel of how things can happen in a story. I was glad that the author deviated from the norm. I read HEA to escape my busy life. So I’m glad I picked up this story. Calling the Curveball: a Lawson Family Novel 3.5 stars
This is the first book in a new series and there are a lot of characters introduced in this book. This story has dysfunction and regrets and angst. It also has light moments – a dog who heckles an umpire, sweet romance and great friendships.
Purely personal opinion – I did not care for the male protagonist. I’m bummed too, because it caused me to feel differently about the entire book than I normally would. Honestly, I will absolutely stick with this series because I am interested in his brothers and their stories.
The story is well plotted and the characters are easily identifiable. There are absolutely redeeming threads in this story and while this particular story wasn’t for me, I WILL read more from this author.

Calling the Curveball: A Lawson Family Novel is a second chance romance by Tracey Cramer-Kelly. This is the first book I have read by Tracey Cramer-Kelly, and I look forward to reading many more in the future. This book had me hooked on the very first page, and I couldn’t put it down until I read the last page. The characters and backstory were well laid out and the book flowed so well that I couldn’t believe when I got to the end. I just wanted it to go on forever. Jamie and Kira’s story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at times. It had me on an emotional roller coaster that I didn’t want to get off, Ms. Cramer-Kelly’s writing style made me feel like I was right there with the characters, going through their ups and downs. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing what comes nextin this series and by this author. I highly recommend this book, especially if you are looking for a great fall romance.

How ive never read this author is beyond me but I absolutely loved this book. Kira is visiting her sister for the summer, and the last thing she expects is to find Jamie. Jamie has some demons from the past that need to be addressed before Kira feels he’s able to actually be in a relationship. Jamie’s story tore me apart. The guilt he’s lived with for years has all come bubbling to the surface. I was so drawn into this story, and I hope the other characters get stories as I fell in love with them as well.
