The Fixer (Fall River Series) by G. K. Brady – Review by Tracy Greenhalgh

The Fixer (Fall River, #2)The Fixer by G.K. Brady
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The second book in the Fall River series, we follow younger brother Charlie Hunnicutt as he battles with the daughter of Hellene (departed owner of the crystal shop). Joy wants nothing more than to demolish the shop and see the town of Fall river and the memories of her mum and their dysfunctional relationship in the rear view mirror of her rented car. There is a lot of family stress between Joy and her sister, and Joy struggles with aspects of her coping strategies. There is again chemistry in abundance.
Another great book where the characters continue to grow, The storyline is engaging and continues to link back to the first book’s characters, although it could be read as a stand alone it is a really good continuation.
I really cannot wait to read what happens to the Hunnicutts and maybe a few more of the residents of the town.

Another amazing short story by the very talented Naomi Valkyrie, once again her world building and character development is great, no detail seems to be left to the imagination.
We meet and follow Acheron (a vulture shifter) due to his work with the dead; he is on the outskirts of shifter society, shunned and alone, they are not meant to find their mate. Left feeling unsettled he is sent on a job he journeys to Mandara, where he meets Errapel (hare shifter) nurse to the dying patient he is sent to tend to, the mate bond falls into place.
A well written MM shifter romance, touching on many other themes that many of us deal with on a daily basis.
4.5* Read
An amazing short story, incorporating Magic, murder, drama and romance
Belladonna is a rather loveable necromancer and pixie mix, used to living a solitary life. Desecrated dead bodies bring her out of her quiet life, as she tries to figure out what or who is doing this.
Rene is the brother to one of the murder victims, when his sister is killed and desecrated he finds himself falling into grief and away from his family. He piques the interest of Belladonna as he is looking into the deaths of other women. He believes he is hallucinating but really he is
An enjoyable read and I will be looking for more from this author.

A really good read that continues from the first book in the series. After reading the first I found the flow of the book much easier to follow.
THis time we follow Julia, she is complex, struggling with loss and memories from the past that keep troubling her.
The author continues with the character development with Julia as it does that of the other characters. The depth of the characters and the insight into their lives is well described as in the previous book. Making this book another that is difficult to put down.
I will certainly be adding more from this author to my tbr list
This is the first book by this author that I have read and at the time of reading was a little thrown as things did not always make sense, after a bit of looking into this is part of a series, almost a sideline that although a good read I feel would be more enjoyable if read after or alongside the other books.
In this book the character development and growth is good and continues to move with the story which in itself is deep and enthralling.
Mathew, a vampire is disheartened after the death of his soulmate and pulls away and distances himself from his family, living alongside humans. Working for a prominent family where he can, seeking redemption where possible.
A new author to me and one I will be looking to read more from.
Bring Camelot into this century, and keep it hidden access only to those who are of a type of magic blood, fae, dragons, seelie all have a part to play.
Morgan grows up in London, magic is recognised and used more often than not, Morgan understands her magic is lacking. Living with her Aunt Nim, tales of old Camelot are frequently told.
Morgan finds she is thrown into life in Camelot as her character develops both magically and personally as Morgan Le Fae is not who she had been led to believe.
Taking it all in her stride the character develops and grows, battling her way to her true destiny.

I was completely immersed in this book from the very beginning. The characters are strong, and the relationships that develop are constantly developing occasionally in ways you at first did not see coming.
In a world of two halves we follow Gilliam as she decides how best to save her brother from the wasting, a disease that ravages the mortal world. She travels to the Shadowlands to seek the help of the witches, the Shadowlands holds many monsters including dragon born.
Saved from attack by Roman, Gillian is taken away to the Great Dragon and finds out that she herself is not what she thinks.
Full of action, emotion, love, distrust, if you like your books to be enthralling and more than a touch of fantasy then this is a read for you.

What an Intriguing and encompassing book, definitely a 4.5* read
A new Author to me and I can say I will certainly be reading the rest of this series as it becomes available.
A mix of historical references, paranormal and romance
We meet Greer and follow the kidnapping, where she finds herself ensconced into a Convent and a marriage is arranged, and Theron the mystery man she senses is next to her bed. Theron cannot help but fight to change this=ns=gs as he has feelings for ‘the girl’ that he has not had in the past.
The world is described in vivid colour and the characters continue to develop anad grow as you find yourself falling deeper into the story.
The second book in this series and I loved the first. I am besotted with the second. The Author continues to describe and build the world of Aurelia with such colour and clarity that you feel as if you are there. The characters continue to grow and their relationships blossom. Claire continues to hide her heart but Trian starts to share how he sees the world and Claire shares her healing ability they continue to learn from each other, but as always there is danger and they are separated. It is a long and arduous battle to get back to those she loves.
This is certainly one of these books that you cannot put down, Love, hope, heartbreak, despair, mix these with fantasy romance and you have an amazing book.

3.5*
This is the 11th book in the series and the only one I have read. It certainly worked as a stand alone as the back story is touched on and discussed in a way that you can follow but I feel you may enjoy more if read in order, saying this the Character development continues and the world is described in a way that you can visualise it easily as you read.
This story follows Master Bistrita and Chara, a fated mates BDSM relationship that could have been delved into a little more, and their story feels a little like it takes a step to the side as most of the storyline leans towards the hunt for someone betraying the Consulate and their mates.
I would certainly read more by this author to see if I gel with their style.
This is the first book by this author that I have read and although it took me a couple of chapters to get into the story and the writing I found that I fell into the town and characters, wanting to know what was happening.
This small town, second chance romance with a twist of suspense and a dash of sports romance.
Jessie and Cameron have a past that left them both with fractured hearts, and years later they find themselves acquainted, with chemistry between them the suspense comes in when someone decides to stop them.
Well written and emotional you are taken into this small town and you probably (like me) wont want to leave.
This is the second book in the series by this author I have read. Similar to the other, it is a MMF historical romance starting in LA 1884 and follows the family and relationship of Nico, Matty and Eden.
Matty and Nico are firm friends since childhood, Nico and his family of mother, pa and papa take Matty under their wing, until he is taken away to school to remove him from his drunken father. Feelings do not change and as Nico moves forward to medical school, finding Eden and returning home to his surprise his childhood friend is back, can their relationship survive the changes, and grow, add in some angst when Nico takes Eden home to her family and finds himself in the middle of a land grab and an arranged marriage for Eden.
A well written and emotional book touching on the subject of poly relationships, family and religious issues. The world building is great and you feel as though you could be there, the characters are interesting and develop well as the story progresses.
I would certainly read more from this author.
My first book to read from this author, and it is the fifth in a series, but if they all read like this one it is easy to read them all as standalones. I will read more to find out if this is the case.
An intriguing read where we meet Storm and her 2 best friends cousins Marcus and Barrington, as children they sent lots of time together as adulthood arrives, the cousins are expected to do their family duty, marry and produce heirs to continue the family line and look after their money, Storm does not fit into the family, from the view of the older family members. But the cousins have other ideas. This is thrown sideways when Storm is taken hostage whilst on a DEA job.
Can the cousins get their girl back to how she was before, can they secure her heart, can she cope with the type of relationship they need.
Family, stalking, PTSD, MFM, DsD dynamic relationship.
A hot and steamy edge to a book that touches on the slightly darker side of human nature.
I really enjoyed this book, the characters the world vividly described really tug at the heart strings and envelop you .
Patrick disabled 3rd son of a lower lord has a place amongst the gentry and certain things are expected (marrying for status, continuing the family name, knowing one’s place) and others like being backwards (or homosexual, bisexual or against the regime) certainly punishable by death or ostracization.
Isuel son of a lower class sold to the White Riders, magically enhanced warriors, those to protect the realm and stay strong against any struggle, finds himself enchanted by the lordling, his lordling.
Patrick finds himself expected to marry but has other feelings and finds his secret life with Iseul.
Family feuds, political turmoil, death, struggle and secrets all link together to pull you along the story of secret love.
A new author to me and one that I will certainly be reading more from.
This is a contemporary romance with a few twists, age gap, left at the alter and add in second chance and you have got the gist of the book.
The characters are both interesting in their own ways,
We meet Declan who is introduced as a player, does not believe in love and is the older brother to Sara and as a family they are the epitome of happy families, although all is not quite as it seems from the outside.
Anne is a friend of Sara and is a quiet calming personality; she intrigues Declan right from the start: although he falls for her he cannot continue the relationship, there is already a plan in place.
Emotional ups and downs lead us to a bride left at the altar only to have their wounds reopened in the future. Who will win the heart of Sara and eventually get their HEA,

The second book in the series by this author and the story does not disappoint.
We continue to follow Elinor as she is woven into another mystery again with the Duke de Archambeau. The characters continue to grow, and their interactions are one of the reasons that this series is one that you cannot put down.
Elinor is on holiday and is invited to the King’s winter feast; an assassin attempts to poison the King.
Although there is no murder to solve but a Lady’s reputation to protect and there is certainly otherworldly input from ghosts linked to the story have a lot to say to Elinor as her medium training kicks in to help.
What an unexpected change of genre for this author, and I can say I am not in any way left wanting. This well written book has emotions twists and turns that were unexpected but rivitting.
This romance follows Dorian and Augustine who are brought together though a twist of fate, they meet after an accident, there is chemistry and deeper feelings are discovered but they are both in relationships so decide to part ways, only to be reintroduced by their wives. The chemistry has not lessened. Will they follow their hearts or once again part ways.
An amazingly well written small town romance, the characters and the town are described in detail and hooks you to continue reading.
We meet Libby who has an unsettled past, she has moved into her late aunt’s house and her toaster catches fire, she’s only been in the area a day.
Zach is our hero in this boo in the series, firefighter and romantic at heart, he is besotted with the newcomer to town. Can he win her over?
A light hearted read that certainly opens up the desire to read more of this series.
Set in the era of the Revolution in America around South Carolina we meet and follow the very turbulent story of Lily Thompson, whose family are dead and she feels the pull to join the Militia. and fight for what she believes.
Lily is willful and unlike many of the time will not be cowed and subdued in her behaviour, she works for what she believes.
The character growth is really good and those Lily comes into contact with fall deftly onto one side of the war or the other.,their personalities really show through. The world of the time is well written and descriptive. And as an English person, seeing things through this descriptive manner is very helpful.
Well written and I would read more by this author.
An interesting book that was a good read although some portions of the plot did not seem to flow or link as smoothly as you would imagine, but otherwise a good story line.
The character development is good for Madame Chalamet (Elinor) and her medium ability (literally talking to the deceased) has come in helpful when solving murder.
The Duke de Archambeau thinks otherwise and would like it if the talking (to the deceased) did not lead to so many questions (of the living). He plans to remove her ability to cause problems by taking her hostage and holding her against her will.
There is a dabble with romance between the two characters which lightens the story slightly.
This is another really good book by this author in this series, Troy is the backstory for Ian Troy, His early life as a slave, his time in the Rellan army. Things he has been through.
It really does give a new awareness of what has happened to mould Ian into the person we have followed in the full series.
As with the other books the character development and world building is very descriptive. And the history keeps you following, needing to know what happens.
This can be read before or after the Crown of Stone books.
A new author to me, and I was in the mood for a historical romance, and it is what I got alongside mystery, murder, debauchery.
The characters are entertaining and largely likeable, they have their issues but don’t we all. The Author has managed to describe a world that is historically good and shows things in an interesting light.
We meet Lord Beresford (Silvester) and he uses his title to the best of its ability in his rather ostentatious lifestyle. It is true in this book that opposites attract and he is intrigued by the unknown Margot, who is a polar opposite to his ways. They are drawn to each other as Margot works with the Lord to solve the question of who killed the Duke.
I will certainly be looking for more in this series.
A really well written novella and prequel to the Echo series by CR Alam, I have read and enjoyed the Echo Series and was intrigued to see if the prequel could answer some of the early character development questions, and as well as a good novella it does roll easily into the series. The characters continue to grow and world development is interesting.
We meet tired worn out doctor Gene and his return home, where he meets and treats Amanda, both then find they have feelings for the other but are trying to stay impartial for a bit, but small town gossip and rumours as well as developing feelings and mystery pull you along as you root for them to become more than doctor and patient.
A really good continuation to the series, this is the third book in the Ruarnons trilogy, and this book (best read in order) continues where the others have started. The world building is very descriptive and the character development is well done, you can visualise Linh and Ruarnon work together to bring unity to the people before they destroy each other, The disappearance of the magic wielders and the practitioners in hiding, the army being amassed keep you hooked from start to finish.
Another great book from this author. True to Landras’ style we get Sci-Fi romance with Cyborg, Gangs, Races, Love and Hate.
Being the fourth book in the series the characters obviously had a bit of a back story that I was unaware of but the book did read well as a stand alone. The character development is well written and the world (on Mars) is well depicted.
All in all a good read that keeps you hooked as it twists and turns through races and the characters lives.
Wow this is one of those books that once you start it you cannot put it down.
We meet Laramee as she returns home to the ranch, a place that holds many memories, some good and some heartbreaking, her family friends and her ex fiance.
We also meet Jamie who has been hired to assess the family ranch for sale.
There is chemistry, but both sides have secrets and we follow them as they work together, work against each other and watch each other come to terms with themselves. As we wait to see if the family ranch will stay in the family, or get sold on. can they make a go of their relationship.
A well written book, with a great well described world, honest emotion and characters that you feel you know. The character development is indepth and the story certainly keeps you hooked.
I will certainly read more from this author.
A new author to me and a bit of a twist on my usual genre. And I can certainly say I will be reading more by this talented writer.
In this story we follow the relationship between Cy and his family, who own the theme park and Jolie who works there. Cy is undercover in the park (against his plans) which I feel is one of the reasons he is a tough to like character at the beginning. Whereas Jolie does what needs to be done to support her family, she is pretty much instantly likeable.
The character development is really good and it’s the growth of their relationship that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
A new Author to me, and I think I can say that I will certainly be reading more.
This is a YA/NA PAranormal Romance that has its share of angst, drama and suspense.
The characters are well written and they continue to develop through the story.
The world building is done in a way that you can follow the web of the story without any confusion.
We meet and follow Marjorie who is always heading into the unknown, running headlong into things she may be better staying away from and Kyran, a brooding and dark lead with many secrets, and as these secrets come to light they weave a more intricate story that keeps you turning the pages.
If you are a fan of YA/NA then this is certainly worth reading.
A new author and subgenre to me. I found this book interesting and well written.
Engaging and historical, full of facts which builds a world in ancient Egypt, intriguing and immersive. We follow the story of the two young women and their dispensary, they try to get to the bottom of an apparent murder, there is suspense, malice and rivalry all rolled together into a book that paints a world vividly and keeps you entertained. I am away to read the second book in the series straight away.
