This is the third book in the Nite Fire series. This book builds from the previous story, and it is great! C.L Schneider knows how to keep the reader engaged and rooting for Dahlia! This series flows well and is exciting to read. Dahlia is a wonderful character. She is just trying to do what is right, and to live her life. However, trouble seems to be always lurking. Dahlia is loyal and brave. I love reading about Dahlia and her world.

5-Stars

Nite Fire: Smoke And Mirrors was an excellent dragon shifter novel. This paranormal story is full of action and adventure. Dahlia Nite is faced with another challenging case when random body parts are discovered along a recently flooded river bank. What she cant understand is why there are pieces of other world creatures in the mix.

Once again the author has done an amazing job with this novel and with Dahlia’s character. She continues to mature in this novel and seems to open herself up more. I recommend reading this novel in order beginning with book one to really understand everything. The storyline is fast paced, exciting, and easy to follow. I highly recommend this book and the series.

Smoke & Mirrors (Nite Fire #3)Smoke & Mirrors by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great read about shadows. Dahlia Nite is a lyrriken dragon shifter working for the police force. One day, a series of body parts turns up at a local riverbank and not all of them are human. With only mysteries to go on, Dahlia and her friends chase shadows that lead to one grim scene after another and a group of dangerous men in masks. Can they solve the crimes before more creatures get hurt?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Dahlia bold and brave but caring underneath or Evans as a fun loving friend but grieving underneath. Great cats of supporting characters like the suspicious Ronnie or the stubborn Creed.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel with the sense of macabre with the body parts and gurney and furnaces horrifying but still realistic. Or with the Gant mansion on a high cliff with its long path and old spires and windows with the sense of the gothic and unsettling perfectly written. Or the use of sounds and smells so vivid it’s as if you’re actually there.
A great example of world bulling with fantasy creatures coexisting alongside humanity with their own rules and laws and societies. I loved the inclusion of different fantasy cretaues into the novel such as the banshee or aswang or selkie given the respect they deserve and true to their origins and wonderfully written.
I also loved the use of suspense in the novel with slow builds to the scenes in the slaughter house or the factory with a sense of foreboding that something isn’t right. Or the draw of suspense around the crimes, making you want to read on to find out who is behind it all and why they are doing it. Fast paced action and high stakes make for a caotivsting read. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

This is the third book of the series and just like the others I was lost amongst the pages and completely hooked I just couldn’t pull my eyes away. There just so much going on that you can’t just be drawn to the storyline from mystery to reality and your just so intrigued that you want to read on so stopping isn’t an issue while reading this novel. I have loved every second of this novel and can’t wait to sink my teeth into more ?. This is a must read even if your like me and not usually into the fantasy/shapeshifter reads but don’t be too quick to judge this may just change your views!

This book starts with action and keeps it up throughout the entire story. There is plenty of danger and suspense and I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of it. I love the character of Dahlia and reading about all the things that she has been through. There are many great characters in this story. The author created wonderful worlds with wonderful and interesting creatures with great attention to detail. The first two books were fantastic and this one I thought was even better. I highly recommend this book.

Nite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors By C.L Schneider. This book was probably my favorite so far. I love how the author doesn’t stick to a straight pattern in the writing, the story is ever changing and keeps readers engaged. I highly recommend reading these in order even though you won’t be lost thanks to the authors writing style but I enjoyed them being in order. Each character brings something different and unique to the storyline and it’s fun to read about them all. I was definitely kept on my toes with this one and highly recommend this story, series and author. Five stars all the way.

Smoke & Mirrors is the third book in the Nite Fire series.

I am absolutely in love with this series. All of the books are wonderful, this one is no exception. The characters come alive and the story has twists and turns that keep you fascinated. I don’t think there is ever a slow moment as you go through the story with Dahlia trying to piece together the clues. In each story it is getting harder and harder for Dahlia and the dragons to cover up what is happening behind the scenes that the humans have been so blissfully unaware of. I think chapter 35 broke me a little bit. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend this series. Looking forward to the next book!

Smoke & Mirrors (Nite Fire #3)Smoke & Mirrors by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Smoke & Mirrors is the third book in C.L. Schneider’s Nite Fire series. I really enjoy this series with its combination of fantasy and detective elements.
Dahlia Nite is now part of a special task force devoted to investigating paranormal crimes. Her powers as a half-dragon give her an edge when it comes to solving these crimes, as well as covering up any evidence that would expose the existence of supernatural creatures.
As the series progresses, the magical world Schneider has created becomes increasingly vast and detailed with a varied cast of supernatural and human characters. It’s been a while since I read the earlier books in the series, but Schneider does plenty to fill the reader in on important background details and remind them of what has happened.
It’s an action-packed book with mysteries to be solved and plenty of interesting, complex characters. Dahlia stands out as a strong, driven heroine. I also like Casey Evans with his compassion and humanness, and I enjoy the scenes with the two of them working together.
For me, this is a five-star book. It’s exciting and gripping and fantastic! I’d recommend it to fans of fantasy and mystery. If you want to see forensic science being applied to non-human victims, this is the book for you!

4 Stars

I just finished this story and again it was beautifully written and being the 4th in this series, I do feel Im liking them better as they go. I still get easily confused but that’s not the authors fault, Im invested enough in this series that I keep reading even though the genre is just not something I normally like or read. I chalk this up to the fantastic writing style of this author.

There is so much going on in this book and there were a couple times I literally stopped and had to really think about what was happening. Saint Augustina is the main player and Saint Benedict played a very large part in this entire book. I loved the interaction between these two and the story of their past. I think I somewhat understand what happened at the end between the two of them but you’d have to read it yourself to get it.

I wasn’t sure about the orange lady at first but quickly found myself really liking her character. Saint Augustina’s story broke my heart and the ending had me bawling.

It’s weird for me to say that I’m actually really looking forward to where this author plans to take this series next, who knows maybe by the time I finish reading them all I’ll be a convert to this genre or at least find that Im understanding it all better.

Amazing writing and I can’t wait for more. I highly recommend reading all of these in order. Everything kind of ties together in a weird way and if I hadn’t read the ones before I know I really would have been lost.

Saint Code: Lost: Book Four of the Lucky Devil SeriesSaint Code: Lost: Book Four of the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don’t think I truly knew what I was getting myself into when I first started the Saint Code series from Megan Mackie, but I truly and loving it four books later. I would HIGHLY recommend that you read all of this series in order. With that said, this is supposed to be able to be read as a standalone. However, with this series I personally think it would be highly difficult to fully grasp everything that is going on without the full build of each book. The world that is created is magical and fun but complicated. Granted, this is just my opinion, however, and one from someone who normally finds books in this genera complicated and confusing. I promise that though Mackie’s Saint Code is one of those, it is worth it.

You won’t find any spoilers in this review, but I will tell you that I adored St. Augustine. She is one kickbutt female character and I truly enjoyed reading all about her. The adventure and detail to the story is vivid as ever and one that you will find yourself lost in until you realize you have finished the book in a quick fell swoop. I know I had only intended to read a bit at first with this book but found myself reading well past my bedtime to see how things worked out. I can’t wait to see what will come next from Ms. Mackie!

Saint Code is book 4 in The Lucky Devils Series, a series which can be read as standalone’s, but it’s a series that shouldn’t be missed! This book had me constantly turning the pages. I couldn’t put this read down. Once again the characters that are a part of this series are unforgettable but especially St Augustine she still continues to intrigue me and wants me to find out more and follow her story through this read.
This story from the beginning was well paced, had you utterly captivated and each book just seems to be getting better and better!

Megan Mackie has become one of my go-to authors after reading this series, and I can guarantee she will become yours too! This is a book not to be missed, and most definitely not the series, I highly recommend this book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Nite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors by C.L. Schneider, 5 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from previous books in series.*

The more Dahlia decides to stay, the more she struggles. She has been hiding what she really is and her past to almost everyone. But the more she does, the more she seems to hurt those closest to her. She must decide whether to trust those she cares for or continue hiding. But that’s not all. There are body parts washing up on the flooded riverbed — and not all of them appear to be human parts. Who is doing this and why? Can she figure out what or who is behind it? At what cost to her and her friends?

I have loved this series from the beginning and it just keeps getting better and better. The story itself is something like I haven’t seen before. And it is not a simple problem with a simple answer. There are many things going on and many facets to this puzzle. Dahlia herself is so complex but she is also growing too. She struggles with the way she has always thought. Not to mention how much she cares about both her friends and those in need of help. The cast of secondary characters provide even more wonderful layers.

This series showcases how Urban Fantasy should be and I highly recommend this book. I suggest reading the previous books in the series first to understand more.

Dahlia is one of the strongest heroines I have read and she’s so fun. Alex is probably almost my favorite hero. They are the perfect team. This books takes into two worlds where there is a mystery behind dismembered bodies. can she catch the killer?

This is my favorite paranormal series this year. You can’t help but fall for the characters and get sucked up into the storyline

Smoke & Mirrors is the third book in the Nite Fire series by C. L. Schneider. This is a three book series and you will be missing some of the story that is referenced from books one and two. I was not sure what I was thinking with the title of Smoke & Mirrors but I can tell you that it was much more than I thought. Schneider is an author that does not disappoint. Her writing details are awesome and I personally fall in love with her characters. Dahlia and Creed are back to investigate the cities crime that just happens to leave body parts on the riverbank. There are two worlds that are going to be on a colliding and there is no way for Dahlia to stop it. There is a serial killer on the loose and someone has to find them. Will there still be a lot of Smoke and Mirrors happening? Will the truth come out? Will secrets come out? Sit down with your favorite ebook, something to drink and hold on because this is going to be a fast ride!!!

With every book that I read in this series, I love it even more. Dahlia grows and evolves within each book. Her powers are growing although her self confidence is still lacking at times. This is one of the things that I love about her. She’s a deadly killer but she has a conscience. She wants to do the right thing and tries her best to protect the underdog.

There is one giant mess after another leading to a disaster of a crime scene. Body parts are spewing up from the sewers and Dahlia has no clue who’s behind it. Most of the body parts aren’t human. How is she supposed to cover up this mess? Everyday gets harder to lie to Creed because he sees through her bull. Dahlia’s getting tired of lying but needs to protect her friends.

There are many twists and turns which will keep you on the edge of your seat. The author throws in a few surprises as well. With certain information leaking out and some reappearances of people from Dahlia’s past, this book is definitely exciting. The author ends the book leaving you freaking out. I can’t wait for the next installment in the series.

The story Saint Code: Lost: Book Four of the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie is an amazing fantasy book. It is a story that pulled me in and didn’t let me go until I had finished the last page. I love how the author is so detailed in her writing. I felt like I was right there with the characters. I enjoyed reading about the character of St. Augustina. She is strong, independent, and intelligent. She has taken a job that keeps her on her toes and she finds the attacks that happen get more personal and deadly. Is someone out to get her? Will she survive? Read this book to find out. The story has action, danger, and mystery. The story had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. The storyline is intriguing and will hook you in right from the start. There are additional characters that are introduced and some are familiar as they have been brought forward from the other books in the series. The book takes you on a wild ride that doesn’t stop until the very end. I would highly recommend reading both this book and the series.

I have read both books in this series that came before this one and I definitely enjoyed this one and as they go each one becomes my favorite of the series. I guess it’s getting deeper into Dahlia’s character and the teaming up of her and Alex is awesome.

I did like the both worlds aspect of this story and Evans is one of my favorite characters. This whole book had me on the edge of my seat as you never knew what was going to happen next, and there are so many characters in this story, I enjoyed each one.

I highly recommend reading these in order, although the author does an amazing job with helping along the way there’s just so much that ties this book to the other two and you really would be missing out if you started with this one.

I absolutely will read more by this author and although this is not a chosen genre of mine, she has found a way to keep me coming back for more and actually looking forward to reading her words.

This book can be a standalone, but I recommend you read the whole series.

Saint Augustina is a cyber-spy. She is strong, as well as strong willed. She can take care of herself in a fight. I think that is why I like her character. It was fun reading and learning about the other characters as well. This futuristic story has way to many spoilers. No spoilers here. You just need to read it.

Megan Mackie has written this fast paced suspense story. It is well written and just fun to read. It is a page turning, can’t get off my seat, until I finish, kind of book. I was glued to the book and had to finish in one read. I didn’t read much of this type of book, but I can say I’ll be looking for more in this genre. Thanks a lot Megan Mackie, I’ll be looking for more from you.

Nite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors by C.L. Schneider is the third book in the Nite Fire series. I recommend reading the other books in the series but this can be enjoyed as a standalone. This is a good story and brings us back to Dahlia Nite, who is a half-dragon shapeshifter. She has been brought into a case with Detective Alex Creed when dismembered bodies start appearing.
I really enjoy the characters and how they have developed over the series. I also like how there is a crossover between the two worlds. Both are well developed and are important parts of the story. The paranormal is well utilized and helps to add to the suspense in the story. I will be looking for more from this author in the future.

Saint Code is the fourth book of the Lucky Devil series by Megan Mackie. Even though it is the fourth book, it can be a stand alone book, but I bet you will want to read the rest of the series after this book. Megan gains my interest within the first couple of pages and I enjoy the ride to the last pages. This book is fast moving adventure through Data Bowl, a cybernetic city. Also while reading this book, I could not help but wonder if this is the way life will become eventually with everything happening in the cybernetic cities of the digital world. St. Augustina is once again one of the main characters who has taken yet another job from Orange Lady. Should everything be normal job like the others before? Just as the title suggests there will be a “lost” but what will be lost? Will St Augustina regret taking this job from Lady Orange?

This book is also filled with twists and turns throughout, that leave you guessing up till the very end. Ms Mackie has introduced me to a new genre that I am really enjoying. Her writing is so exciting to read and I love that her books are so unpredictable.
I’m not sure the characters are ones that I particularly connect with but the stories are so interesting to read about I am hooked from the very beginning. As soon as I read the description of Smoke and Mirrors, I knew all plans were off until I finished reading. A serial killer and clues to follow that are too good to be true? Nothing gets past Dahlia for long but the ride in between is phenomenal. I’ve read the previous books and love Dahlia as well as her relationship with Detective Creed. Their banter is genuine in both its irritation and respect.
The two worlds involved are incredibly rich in the details provided and, while I never suggest reading a series out of order, the reader is given enough to get by on the previous events bother normal and supernatural. But why dive into the the third when the set up is the best part?!
All types of readers will enjoy this book and the entire series. It’s mystery with supernatural poured on top, deliciously mixed in, and with a list of compelling characters, C.L. Schneider will have you hooked.
