Wow! This author throws tough world topics into her books. DV is in this one. This story is a definite page turner. Logan is in deep and the only witness is a 3 year old. Not all is as it seems and Logan has to get to the bottom of it. The author does a fantastic of setting up the story with suspense. She lays out the detail. There are twists and a few turns. She has rapidly become one of my favorite authors. This is another winner in my book.

My middle child, now in her twenties, used to be obsessed with sea otters when she was little. We had to have a sea otter birthday cake, and we had to watch sea otters on the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Otter Cam several times a week! This book brings back good memories for me. The mystery is wonderfully crafted, and the family dynamics explored amongst the characters are simply amazing. I can’t wait to read more of this series!

Devil’s Claw is the third book in the Logan McKenna Series is a wonderfully written Crime/ Thriller that will have you turning the pages till the end. I’m a huge fan of this author and her style of writing along with her creative characters make for an epic story. I didn’t realize I was starting with the third book so I plan on going back and reading the first two books in this series to get me caught up with what’s been going on. There’s plenty of twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Logan is back and ready to tackle the newest murder but this one is different as its someone who’s close to her. Everyone wants the property lot 429 but at what lengths are they willing to go to get it? I’m afraid I’m going to give away to much information. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Safe Harbor (Logan McKenna Series Book 5) by Valerie Davisson
Genre – Crime, Thriller

Cover Designer – Kim Peticolas

During the first vacation she’s taken in years, Logan looks forward to sharing the beauty of the Oregon coast with Ben and her family. They quickly immerse themselves in summer fun. Ocean walks, caramel corn by the fire, a visit to the aquarium, a charter boat fishing trip, and to top it off, tickets for Logan and Ben to an amazing, in-home classical music concert featuring visiting musicians from China.

But within days, Logan finds herself inexorably dragged into a homicide investigation—as a possible suspect. While reeling from that discovery, Logan is forced to face a ghost from her past and make a thorny, personal decision that will change everyone’s lives, including her brother, Rick’s.

Weaving themes of loss, healing, forgiveness, family, love, and community, Davisson’s characters all seek a safe harbor, but not all of them find one.

Fans of J.A Jance, Louise Penny, Elly Griffiths, Nevada Barr, Sue Grafton, C.J. Box, James Patterson, or Alexander McCall Smith will love fiercely independent and loyal Logan McKenna!

Devil’s Claw (Logan McKenna Series Book 3) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Kirsten Berkebile

This is Book 3 in the Logan McKenna Series. There are nine books totally, I plan on reading every single one of them at some point. In this one, we learn about sea otters and greed from a new person. Unfortunately for someone, they lose their life because of this greed. I am still currently reading it so I can’t give to much away. It does involve money and land, specifically the Sea Otter Rescue Land. I haven’t read many of Ms. Davisson’s books but this one seems to grab my attention especially because of the sea otters. I mean I never knew that sea otters made noise, I mean how would you know that unless you have seen/heard them up-close and personal.

Logan has her hands full in this one. Left a piece of property that is hot to hold by a lot of people, someone has already been murdered for it. She has to figure out who did it and who wants the property that bad. Again, I love all the detail in these mysteries. She’s trying to save sea life when this happens. There’s drama, action, suspense and a bit of romance. The writing really grabs you with this one. Those prologues just get ya and you can’t put it down. Her characters are very relatable. They really could be friends. This is a terrific mystery because you have to work to figure out who did it. She doesn’t give it to you easy.

I’m excited that Logan and Ben are giving it a go. Logan is in Portland when an explosion happens outside her hotel, and she knows the owner and the elderly lady who died. As usual, when the police go the wrong way, Logan goes the “right way” to help clear her friend’s name. I really liked this story. It gave a lot of detail. The flow is good. My favorite part is that the author includes a lot of secrets within the story that are unfolded during the mystery. There are always secrets to be found. Logan had adventures all around during this story, hers and while trying to figure out what happened to the food truck. Fantastic adventures, a lot of mystery and suspense, romance sure make for a great book.

This is mighty powerful for a first book in the series. I couldn’t put it down. Thomas dealing with the call and Lisa grabbed me then and there. Logan has a lot to deal with and she is always there for her friends. I loved how this story developed and how the characters were layed out. Ben being introduced to Logan was my favorite scene. The storyline was great. It ran smooth. Everyone had their part. I can’t wait for book 2.

Valerie, girl! I loved this book! I was hooked on the first book but I absolutely devoured this one! I LOVE when books have different POV’s!!! It’s my favorite. When you can read and feel from other characters, it just makes me that much more connected. And the author has such a gift when she talks about sensitive topics in her stories. This mystery thriller had me turning the pages because I needed to know what happens next. The MFC is a character that I instantly fell in love with. A lot of the times they’re annoying but I absolutely loved Logan!! She’s been through quite a bit but that doesn’t stop her! Such a strong female lead and I’m here for it. Logan McKenna is a widowed teacher mother of Amy, both of them have a kaleidoscopic arrangement of friends who make their lives full and happy.

But in every human life happiness is much appreciated when difficulties arise and they get to get overcome. A series of events make these protagonists look into life in a very engaging form. full of mystery and science of the sea, the book takes you to a place you have never seen.

VANISHING DAY (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 4) by Valerie Davisson . I have absolutely loved this series and this book was no different. Its the continuing saga of Logan McKenna whose new young neighbor is brutally attacked and left for dead. The only witness to the attack is the victim’s 3 year old daughter. When the police hit a dead end in the case Logan decides she has to find out what happened and why. As Logan starts digging she realizes her neighbor isn’t who she says she is and the danger is getting really deep. Finding out Lori, the victim, is in an abusive relationship or trying to flee from the relationship makes the case even more dangerous but that has never stopped Logan before. Will Logan and Brian find out who is trying to kill Lori and why before its too late for Lori and Logan? Each of these books can be read as standalone but they are all so good I highly recommend reading them all. The relationships and messes Logan gets herself into are so good. Just be prepared that once you start this book you won’t want to put it down!

This whole series has been a strong series and this book is probably the best yet. An amazing story and one up would certainly recommend.

Thrilling mystery that leaves the audience completely captivated and unable to turn the pages fast enough. While I was able to read this book as a standalone (this is book 8 in the series), I can not wait to go back to book one and read the rest of them! My first book from Valerie Davisson, but certainly won’t be my last!
Newlywed Logan McKenna is newly married to Ben, the love of her life, and together they have settled down on the Oregon coast. Logan is over the moon to be volunteering at their local wildlife refuge, and she is enjoying her time with all the beautiful creatures that’s she working with. One day, Logan discovers a coworker dead and it’s soon after that she realizes the sanctuary isn’t what it seems. It isn’t long before Logan rounds up some local friends and they dig deep to try and uncover the real killer of her dead coworker. Twists and turns galore, will leave the audience guessing until the very end! Highly recommend!

This book is book 8 in a series. I had not read the previous ones, and I was able to follow along. There were a lot of characters which would have been less confusing had I read previous stories. Overall the story captured my attention and was a great suspense and mystery. I had several guesses on who the murderer was, but ultimately I just wasn’t sure until it was revealed at the end. I loved the action in later parts of the book as well as discovering the mysteries. Great book, and I enjoyed it!

For me, this was read as a stand-alone, and the author is a new addition to my list. This book follows the twist and intertwined stories as Logan, freshly moved and married, finds a coworker dead, and ends up engrossed with the case. Her peaceful world is quickly crumbled, as secrets are revealed, and her volunteer job at the raptor rehabilitation becomes more than she could ever imagine.

Overall, a good murder mystery, and it was very easy for me to feel engrossed in this book. I felt more in the scenes rather than just being a reader and witness. I will happily start from the beginning and have added the other installments to this series on my TBR.

Logan McKenna is back! She recently moved to Oregon after marrying Ben, her equally intriguing and intelligent husband. She is handling the Fractals remotely and spending time writing and recording new music. There’s new friends and acquaintances, a new volunteer job at the Raptor Center, and a new dead body.

Evka, the raptor vet at the center, is found by Logan when she brings in a friend for a tour – along with the red tailed hawk they’d been treating. Something is off, Logan can feel it. Luckily, her friends are equally as invested in solving the mystery.

Will they discover the killer before they are in danger, themselves? As usual, a very smart, witty, engaging story with wonderful female leads and a mystery til the end. Beautiful world building. Another win.

This was a wonderful read that was full of suspense! I kept trying to read super fast to see what happens next.

Logan is starting her new job at the Cascades Raptor Center working with the lead vet, Evka. She is fascinated by the fierce predatory nature of the hawks, owls, and eagles, but also how caring and compassionate Evka is towards the birds. Everything changes when Logan stumbles upon a dead body at the Center and can’t shake the feeling that it’s actually a murder. Unfortunately Logan can’t just ignore her gut instincts and the murderer decides she needs to be silenced. Will she be able to help crack the case or will she end up with the same fate?

I loved the amount of suspense and mystery throughout this book. I had NO idea what direction was up and there were so many twists that kept me guessing until the very end. I highly recommend In Plain Sight!

In Plain Sight is Book 8 in the Logan McKenna Mystery Series. Logan is now married to her best friend Ben and has settled into a routine. She still plays her beloved violin, Bella, and her music career is blossoming. Life is good and Logan has time to do the things she enjoys like going for morning runs by her home on the Oregon coast. It is during these runs that she becomes fascinated with the beauty of the owls, hawks, and eagles she encounters along the way. Wanting to learn more about these majestic creatures she decides to volunteer at the Cascades Raptor Center.

Through her volunteer work at the Cascades Raptor Center Logan not only learns more about the owls, hawks, and eagles but all the work involved in caring for them after they have been rescued. She meets an amazing team of volunteers who have dedicated their lives to the care of these majestic creatures. When Logan goes into volunteer at the Cascades Raptor Center early one morning, she is shocked to discover the body of one of her beloved co-workers in one of the wards. At first glance, it appears that her co-worker has died from natural causes, but Logan cannot shake the feeling that something is not right. Logan senses that there is more to her co-worker’s death than meets the eye because her co-worker’s office was also vandalized, and a threatening note was left for the co-worker on her blackboard.

When the police investigation seems to be going nowhere fast Logan enlists the help of two of her friends and the three of them set out to solve the mysterious death of Logan’s co-worker. Thankfully, her friends have connections, and they can uncover answers that even the police and the coroner have been unable to discover in their investigations. This sleuthing by Logan and her friends has the killer’s attention now focused on Logan. The deeper her and her friends dig the more sinister secrets are revealed putting Logan’s life in danger. She is now racing against time to solve the mystery before she becomes the killer’s next victim.

I found this book impossible to put down because I needed to find out who the killer was. This book had wonderful characters and was action packed throughout. I became immersed in the lives of Logan and her friends and fully invested in the mystery of her co-worker’s death. I found myself trying to guess at the killer’s identity based on the subtle cues the author gives throughout the book. Boy, was I surprised when the killer was not who I thought it was! The killer truly was hiding in plain sight all along! I highly recommend this book and am going to ensure that I read the rest of the books in the Logan McKenna Mystery Series. If they are half as good as this book, I know that I will not be disappointed!

This was a very interesting mystery and one I enjoyed. I had a suspicion of who did it, but did not put the clues together until the end. The setting was very intriguing and, having a raptor center near my home town, I was delighted to have such a unique atmosphere. I enjoyed the little bits of motive that applied to multiple people and they were slowly chipped away until the actual one was revealed. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes mysteries and look forward to reading more by this author. I also like the Pacific NW setting, somewhere that is on my list of places to visit!
