Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin – Review by Sheri Schrader

Virtue of DeathVirtue of Death by Randi Perrin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin is the first in the Earthbound Angels series. The story is about Sera an Angel of Death. At the age of eighteen Sera has plans to go to culinary school but there are also other plans beyond her control for her. She has been chosen as an Earthbound angel of death. Her duty is to guide souls to the afterlife. At the age of 30, she is challenged because she has a hard time letting someone become her someone special. During the day, she is a successful baker and at night she fulfills her higher calling. Her challenge is she might be falling for someone but can she trust him in her life. Sera has a great friend Cheryl who is a great balance to Sera. Also, there is Destin, he is not a part of Sera’s secret life but works his way into her life in other more romantic ways. Can Sera trust Destin not to break her heart and also with her secret?
This story is a fantastic paranormal, romance that makes you want to believe in angels. Sera is strong and fantastic in many ways. Also, her baking made me crave sweets, lol. If you enjoy a story with some fantasy and reality mixed in this is a great story for you. There are challenges to overcome and love on the horizon. I really enjoyed the mix of characters. The writing and story are well done. I like something that has an original slant and good writing.

Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin – Review by Jenni Bishop

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Randi Perrin has written a little gem with this paranormal romance Virtue by Death. This angelic story is well written and is a romantic story with a twist and is a happily ever after. It is a standalone book but I wonder if Randi has more of those quirky, sassy and yet sweet characters in store for us?

Sera owns her own shop and has always loved baking. By day she is a lover of baking but at night she is the Angel of Death. Sera loves both jobs, but lately she has to fight demons to get to the souls of the dying to heaven before they get to them. Sera also loves her best friend and fellow angel, Cheryl, whom you will adore. Where Sera is sweet and sugary, Cheryl is all sorts of sass and snark but they complement each other beautifully. Even though Cheryl is an angel, she is a different type of angel to Sera, she can save lives. Both take their angelic jobs seriously and adhere to the rules religiously.

Journalist and food critic, Destin, is given baked goods to review for his job and little does he know that this one review will change his life forever. Destin writes his review for a shop that sells baked goods but after reading the review the owner, Sera, can not believe what she reads and decides to give him a piece of her mind.

Will Sera open up about her secret? Will Destin be the one she trusts? Will Destin believe in Sera? Will Destin or Heaven be the one to break her heart? Can Sera forgive and move on? Will Sera be destroyed by the demons or will she eventually outsmart them?

This story is full of friendships and love. We learn that true love is worth any sacrifice and because of this, the strength of the girls friendship is tested when Heaven throws a curve ball their way. I love the banter between Cheryl and Destin which ensures just the right amount of humour when things get a little tense or down. I enjoyed the plot and as well as the sense of humour. This is one book not to be missed.

Virtue of Death is the first of the series of Earthbound Angels and I absolutely loved it! I have always loved paranormal and the author has now a place in my bookshelf next to Cynthia Eden and Gena Showalter and … It did not hurt that I also love baking and quirky bakeries.
I am impressed how the author has duality of life – life-birth-creativity and the death-end. I feel so much like Sera when baking – you are creating something amazing that brings people pleasure, creates memories and awakens memories. I also love how she has found positive in her ‘job’ as an Earthbound Angel – it would be so easy to just get stuck with the surface and say it is so morbid.
Another great storyline is the unconditional friendship between Sera and Cheryl – they have been friends since they were 8 years old and they have been Angels together since they were 18 years old. I love Cheryl’s black humor and unwavering loyalty and gothiness mixed with sweetness.
Of course we cannot forget about the love story between Sera and Destin. What an irony – when Sera finally truly falls in love, it is with a …. food critic and journalist!
With little twists and pain and suffering it all ends well, there are no lingering questions that would hound us and I think it is good as sometimes we simply need a book that is a great read, makes us laugh and cry and makes us look forward to another Earthbound Angels’ story. The author has confirmed that she has finished the manuscript). I hope she does not make us wait too long!

Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin

This was such a great book! I give it 4.5 stars! I loved it… I laughed, I cried and well, got angry too ! Very well written and very deep and intriguing characters.
Sera and Cheryl have been childhood friends, since as long as they both can remember. They share the same secret and they have vowed to tell no one. They are Angels. One is an Angel of death and the other is the Angel of miracles. They get each other and understand life’s challenges being an angel.
Destin is a food critic. He writes reviews for bakeries and restaurants. He loves his job!! He meets Sera in a very unconventional way. He was very enamored by her. But for her, it was hate at first sight.
He finally gets her to agree to a date. Will their relationship bloom into a real life love like they both want? Will she share her secret with him?Can she trust him?
