My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Reluctant Suitor is a contemporary romance novella which is part of The Studs of Clear Creek County series. While it can be read as a standalone, the characters are best understood when read in order. The Reluctant Suitor is Fisher and Billie Jean’s story in the series.

Fisher Hines is wealthy and he does all he can to earn the respect of his family. Overseeing the employees at Locke Farm is one way to keep their respect and propel himself forward in their eyes.

Billie Jean is visiting family in Clear Creek County from college. What she never expected was to fall for Fisher when she visited home. Billie Jean finds herself conflicted after learning that Fisher works for Locke Farm. She is determined to do what is best for her family and the Black people who work for Locke Farm and she’ll do it with or without Fisher’s help.

Stacy-Deanne does a good job tackling the tough issues. The story between Billie Jean and Fisher was partially eclipsed by what was happening with Sue Ann. I would have preferred more development between Billie Jean and Fisher, but still found it to be a good story overall.

The Sullivan sisters are a fabulous family that seems like a lot of fun. In book two of this series, we learn more about Katelyn and get to catch up on what Ellie’s been up to.

Katelyn is restless and feels the need to travel again. When an opportunity comes up for her to go and help an injured horse, she’s all in. She might be the only one who is though! The set-up came through a third party mutual friend so when Katelyn shows up at Grant Tennyson’s farm to help rehabilitate his prize-winning thoroughbred, he’s wondering where she came from. Grant is also not wanting her help and will do what he can to get her to leave.

Katelyn is full of sass and vinegar and finds a way into Grant’s horse barn, as well as into his heart. She’s not afraid to put him or anyone else in their place and she will prove that she’s the right person for this job.

There is a lot of raw emotion in this story and it’s one that goes by fairly quickly. My favorite character has to be the butler in this story though! I loved Katelyn and Grant but the butler stole my heart!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Katelyn is a fierce hard worker who will fight for what she knows is right. As she heals the hurts of the horse, the man who captures her interest is entwined in that healing.
There are years of emotional abuse to work through and in the end, it may feel safer to just stick with what he knows. Grant has never been free to make his own choices in his life and thinking there could be more is almost too much for him to bear. This was a very emotional read for me, I love how the author takes us along through the highs and lows.
S.E. Reichert is great at creating strong relatable characters who are flawed and lovable. I can’t wait to read what comes next!

Billie Jean Wills, an African American college who never could walk away from a fight. One day, while riding the family horse, Billie Jean gets saved after being thrown from the spooked horse by the handsome Fisher Hines. While visiting her family in Clear Creek County she learns how the black men are being treated over at the Locke farm and along with her cousin Greta Fay they create quite the stir of trouble. While confronting Mr. Locke, Billie Jean learns that the man whole stole her heart was none other than the manager of the farm! Days before the rally the Locke farm catches fire. Of course, the girls get blamed for the fire but neither one committed the crime.
This action-packed book comes with lots of angst, anger, frustration, challenges, sex appeal, and chemistry. It is a fantastic book that is part of an excellent series. I can’t wait to read other books by this great author.

Another amazing historical cowboy romance from this author.

As well as keeping the characters present from the previous books, we follow Billie Jean as she spends the summer with her cousins, who we met previously Greta Fay and her family.

Not only is Billie Jean is visiting from Los Angeles, where she is one of the few to attend college, so is looked at as a troublemaker by most of the town of Clear Creek County in 1895. But she is related to Greta Fay.

When she meets an elusive man Fisher, she is intrigued but soon finds out he is the supervisor at the farm where many of the men of the county work. Disappointed by this but unable to completely forget him, things get worse when there is arson and misdeeds going on. Can Billie Jean and Fisher survive the issues and come through them for their HEA as well as the rest of the characters who take a step forward like Sue Ann and her issues with Carl.

I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

Well this story took me by surprise. I normally do not read Historical stories. But this one caught my eye and thought I would give it a try. I am so happy I did. It was such a well written story that kept me turning the pages until the end. I love that Billie Jean is such a strong independent woman with the courage to fight for her people, family and friends alike. Then there is Fisher Locke who wants to show his parents what he is made of. Two strong attractive people who know what they are feeling is wrong. Two independent people who are fighting for what is right. Who is right, Billie or Fisher? What will happen next for them? Read this story to find out what happens. While this story could be a standalone,I felt it is in my best interest to read the series. This author writes fast paced, page turners with plenty of history. Great Story!!!!!

Billie Jean is fighting for the rights of her people, family and friends but there is one thing standing in her way and that is the Locke Farm. Although when she meets the son Fisher there is something between them that both of the can’t resist but know that it is forbidden.

Fisher Locke has finally has a chance to prove himself to his parents but when he see her for the first time he is instantly drawn to her, but as they start to develop feelings for each other , can they survive the backlash or will they be destined to be apart forever.

I have read other books in this series and although there is some crossover with other stories you can easily read this book as a stand alone story. I loved the chemistry between these two characters and the emotional push and pull is great to read. With this historical storyline it is great to read about such strong females characters in an era where woman, especially black woman really had no say in the world but determined to make a difference these woman fight with there lives for justice and freedom.

This is a brilliant story which will have you engrossed and turning the pages until the end.

I loved the first book in this series and couldn’t wait to get the rest of the sisters’ stories and this one is about Katelyn. This can be absolutely read as a standalone!

I so loved this story as it had me in my feelings from the start as you could just feel how broken Grant was.

Katelyn may be my favorite female lead in quite some time as she took no crap from anyone and stood for what she knew was right and didn’t back down.

These 2 were great even with the grumpy/sunshine trope going on, which is one of my favorites, as we see the ice thaw on Grant slowly.

Cannot wait for the next!

I’ve really been enjoying these stories by this author. I find them really easy to read and they have great characters. I love the time period that these stories take place in, so much struggle goes on in these times with regards to interracial relationships and I love that the author tackles this with such amazing story lines and characters.
I loved Billie Jean! She certainly was not afraid to stand up for what she believed. She had a great confidence and independence about her that made her so amazing to read about. She definitely didn’t see Fisher coming along though! There was this instant attraction between them that was definitely undeniable and I really enjoyed seeing them evolve as a couple and navigate the barriers of that time period when it came to their relationship.

The second book in the Sweet Valley Series, Granting Katelyn, is a wonderful contemporary romance. Based in a small town with a western theme, the book follows on from book one with Elle’s younger sister Katelyn. Her journey to happiness and Grant is full of emotion, angst, drama, chemistry, soul searching and healing. A brilliant story and addition to the series. Looking forward to the next book. Granting Katelyn

I love the Sullivan sisters, each one is strong and fierce but also vulnerable. We get to really know Katelyn in this book and catch up with Ellie.

I am thankfully on vacation from work this week and was able to binge read this book. Think I put it down long enough to eat lunch, but refused to take a nap so I could keep reading.

Katelyn is tough, but not as tough as she would like everyone to think. I think part of the reason is her age, and second her profession which I would assume is dominated by men. She is quite in tune with her feelings as well as the horses she works with.

Grant breaks my heart. He let’s his fears from the past control his future. I understand where he’s coming from to a point, but he needs to keep those negative voices out of his head.

Hugh won my heart from the beginning and I loved him even more at the end of the book.

I’m already looking forward to Laney’s story. I have read several books by Ms. Reichert, have enjoyed each one and will always look forward to reading more.

3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟

This was a good, contemporary romance and part of The Studs of Clear Creek County series and can be read as a standalone or read in order. Fisher and Billie Jean’s story gave me angst, fight for equality, romance, forbidden love and drama.

Fisher Hines comes from a wealthy family and overseeing the employees at Locke Farm as a supervisor. Fisher wants to make his family proud, especially coming from the society their circle is in. Expectation of meeting the high standards of his family, Fisher never expected to fall for
Billie Jean, especially when their worlds are totally different.

Billie Jean is visiting family in Clear Creek County and never expected to take to Fisher Hines the way she did. When Billie Jean finds that Fisher works for Locke Farm, she tries to stay away as she feels that her people are mistreated in ways that are hard to speak about. As Billie Jean’s barrier and reluctance fades, she finds herself falling for Fisher. What happens when Billie Jean wages war against Locke Farm even against Fisher’s wishes and warnings?

This is a good story and the author does a very good job when it comes to tackling hard issues. I would have loved to have more of Billie Jean and Fisher’s story develop. Overall good story and I always look forward to this author’s books.

This was a great 5 star read. I was pulled in right from the beginning. I really liked both Katelyn and Grant, they had my emotions all over the place with their story. Katelyn helps horses, when she is contacted to come and help Grant’s horse after an accident, she also finds herself helping Grant. Grant was very difficult and stubborn with Katelyn. As we learn more about Grant’s history my heart broke for him. Will Katelyn be able to fix this broken man?

Overall I really enjoyed this story. We get alternating POV, which I love because then you get to see what each of them are thinking. The author does a great job with her writing, I felt like I was right in the story with the characters. I can’t wait to read more from this author and the next book in this series. This is the second book in the Sweet Valley series. Even though it is part of a series this can be read as a standalone but personally I loved the first book so much that I was glad I read that first. The author does an amazing job at writing romance stories that are deep, emotional and the characters all have issues and problems to overcome before they go to the HEA. For me it makes the stories more realistic and relatable and the characters more real and I become more invested in their story.
In this story we meet Elle’ sister Katelyn. When she arrives to help the injured horse she doesn’t expect to feel such a strong connection to the owner.
As their chemistry grows Katelyn soon realises that it’s not just the horse that needs help healing.
Can Katelyn’s strength and determination help Grant to heal from his past pains or will the hurdles in their path mean that they can’t work through them.
This is a heart warming and emotional story about 2 people who have such a strong connection but who need to heal and sort through the issues of the past before they have any hope of a happy future. I loved both Grant and Katelyn and I felt every emotion they went through. I was completely invested in this couple and was willing them to succeed every step of the way. They say the road to love is never smooth and this is definately the case for this couple.

Katelyn and Grant are two well developed characters, if not a little frustrating. Both are strong willed, and a little spirited. Katelyn is asked to treat a beautiful Throughbred who injured. Unknowing to her Grant is going to constantly get her way. The way these two butt heads made me laugh, but when Grant’s past comes back to haunt him, it seems to turn for the worse. Another enjoyable read from this series. I love these books because they are just so easy to read, the characters are really relatable and they are actually a pleasure to settle down with and read. The plots are easy to follow and the wonderful writing makes them a pleasure to read. Granting Katelyn was a wonderful book with great characters. Grant was so lovely, I fell in love with him instantly – I really just wanted to give him the biggest hug! Katelyn was equally as lovely, she had a great strength about her and the interaction between the two characters whilst at times was steamy there was also this genuine connection that I loved! There was a lot of emotion in the story too and the author did an amazing job with getting that emotion across to the reader.

This is the second book in the Sweet Valley series. I would recommend reading the first book prior to this one, but this one can be read as a standalone.

As with the first book, it’s well-written, this time told from both Katelyn and Grant’s perspectives. I enjoy this way of telling it as you get more insight into each of their lives and perspectives The writing flows well

Katelyn is a strong, determined character, tasked with helping Grant and his horse. Grant has had a traumatic past and that puts some believable challenges in the pair’s way, but I loved seeing the two of them develop as the story progressed. I loved the pair together and was emotionally invested in them from the start.

An enjoyable and engaging western romance which kept me happily turning the pages. Katelyn Sullivan has to travel across the country in order to help treat an injured prized thoroughbred, however when she arrives, the owner, Grant Tennyson stands in her way. It soon becomes clear that if Katelyn wants to save the horse, then she needs to get close enough to Grant to find out why he doesn’t want her to help. As Katelyn gets closer to Grant she realises that his painful past may be stopping him from moving forward. However, she didn’t expect that losing her heart might be an option when getting to know the grumpy Grant. This is book two in the series and Katelyn is Elle (from book one) sister, however it can be read as a standalone story. Both Katelyn and Grant are likeable and relatable characters and their chemistry sizzled off the page. The descriptive narrative once again brought the setting to life which made me feel immersed in the storyline.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Right in Front of You by Brooke May is the first book in the Morris Valley Gang series. The story revolves around a group of friends who have continued their friendship through the years, even though some have moved away. When Brinley discovers a stalker, she returns to the only place she can think of where she may be safe. Coming back home feels good, but it also has her wondering where her future is and what she wants to do. She meets a rancher named Adrian, who is now part of the tribe that she left behind. I felt that the romance aspect of the story was done very well, and each character was very unique. I love how the author let you get to know each character not just Brinley. In many ways, the story felt a little like the show “Virgin River” how some of the older community people get involved and do a little meddling. I found myself laughing, smiling, and even teary-eyed at some of the moments. I enjoyed each and every character and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to the rest of the gang.

This is the second book in the Sweet Valley Series. It reads as a standalone, however, the first book Raising Elle, is by far and away one of the best books I’ve read this year and therefore I would definitely recommend reading that one first. It gives you a feel for the characters that are in this book as they are introduced in the first one. This book is Grant’s turn to explore his past and open himself to others. Katelyn is new to the area and comes to help treat Grant’s horse. I loved Grant in the first story and I was so glad I got to know him better in this one. Katelyn was a great addition to Sweet Valley. I definitely enjoyed this story and Katelyn and Grant getting to know each other. I definitely recommend this story and this series and I cannot wait to see what will happen next in the series!

An enjoyable and engaging contemporary western style romance which kept me happily turning the pages. The storyline features an interracial relationship between college educated Billie Jean Wills and the wealthy Fisher Hines. When Billie Jean finds out that the blacks at the Locke Farm are working under horrible conditions she decides to fight for their rights, along with her cousin Greta Fay. However, to force any real change in their small town they have to take on one of the most powerful families, the Lockes. Billie Jean did not expect to feel an instant connection with the supervisor of Locke Farm, and therefore the enemy, Fisher Hines. Fisher is proud to be the supervisor and has finally gained the admiration of his high society parents, but he can’t deny the feelings he has for Billie Jean. Fisher wants a future and a chance at true love with Billie Jean, but by her going up against the Lockes it threatens everything that not only him but his family has worked for. The small town setting was really brought to life through the descriptive narrative as were the characters. The chemistry between Billie Jean and Fisher sizzled off the page, and I liked how their relationship developed despite several barriers, including race, an age gap and forbidden love. The author is not afraid to tackle some major issues and does so sensitively. An entertaining read, and one which I recommend.

Their chemistry and attraction made me want to know more about them and what fate has in store for them. I found their story to be fast paced and hard to put down. A story you don’t want to miss.
