There is nothing like the bond of two women. The connection between Cate and Patti is soul deep even after years of distance. There are secrets that can tear them apart. Will the truth finally be known? Will it break them? Will it make them stronger? This book is all about that sister connection that you find with your chosen family as well as with your blood. Such a moving story that kept me turning the pages.

This is two prequels in one, to a series of books so I would recommend that you be aware of that before starting at least. They are both beautiful novels and wonderfully vivid reads that will set you up beautifully for the Logan McKenna Mystery books. I loved the sweet and heartwarming story of Norah and her violin in the first book and how that tied the gorgeous cover into the book. She is so relatable and I just loved everything about her. This book was deeply rooted in history and storytelling and I felt like I was taken on the most unique history lesson but in the most unique way. In book two we learned the background of Logan McKenna, who is the Great Granddaughter of Norah. How cool huh! The violin also plays more into this one as well. I really liked how the books were separate but not. I look forward to seeing if we will be getting more in this series of books or not, fingers crossed for the more!

Cate and Patti have been best friends for 31 years. Closer than best friends, they are more like sisters. After a traumatic incident 20 years prior, they began to fall away from each other. Often going years without seeing each other. When something from that night comes back up, they need to go home and figure out what they need to do to prevent anymore harm from coming to those they care about. Written in a way that you start in present time, fall back to 1998 and then back to the present, you are able to follow the story quite well. An easy, quick, enjoyable read.

Secrets never stay hidden, for Patti Thomas and Cate Silver who have been Best Friends since they were seven but one night something happens that alters their lives after high school. Both have this secret and now 10 years later they reconnect but will everything implode??

Cate Silver has a secret she has kept for twenty years, she killed a man. Thinking she had got away with it but she is always looking over her shoulder just in case it comes back to haunt her. One faith night all hells breaks loose and they are going to re-open the murder which send Cate into a spiral the only person who can ground her is her best friend Patti but she left long ago.

Patti ran away from the town she grew up in, always keeping in touch with her best friend, Cate every couple of years but when she receives a frantic call from Cate has Patti running back to her hometown to try and help Cate through the years of pain and secrets that lay in in her past, but Patti also has skeletons which are threatening to be released and have her running away again.

I love this author, her stories are full of emotion and are well written and just flow along with the story. These characters shows the loyalty and friendship can last a life time and that some relationship are just there through thick and thin. The twist and turns in the story have you engrossed from the first word to the last and will not let you down.

The story shows the determination of friendship and the unbelievable strength and that they have kept this secret for so long that it slowly ripping them apart. If you like the thrill of the chase and a well written book then this one is right up your street.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I have to say I was not disappointed. The story of Cate and Patti is compelling in its realisticness, and because of that it makes the story even more enjoyable. The suspense, the secrets, all of these build on each other to make this story compelling and impossible to put down. The author has done a superb job in painting a picture that readers not only can follow easily, but that they can enjoy flipping through over and over again.

Oh boy did I enjoy this book! From the twists and turns to the sweet, sweet friendship of Cate and Patti, this book was right up my alley. From the start, you could feel the love between Cate and Patti. They reminded me so much of my relationship with my best friend. I very much enjoyed the plot. The characters are also enjoyable and complex. This is my first book by this author but it certainly is not my last.

I absolutely loved the friendship between Cate and Patti. They were the typical best friends and did everything together. Then that one tragic night happened. They never betrayed each other. What they did that night only brought them closer. This book was amazing. I will defiantly be adding it to my favorites list.

This is the first book that I’ve read by this author. This prequel combo was beautifully written. Learning about Bella’s origin and how it got to Logan was an exciting and emotional journey. The McKenna women are strong and resilient. I now have to go read all of the other books. The author is great at creating a world you can get lost in. I highly recommend this book

The author managed to combine tragedy, secrets, friendship and love in a heartfelt way. I felt the pain and joy the characters felt. As I predicted what was coming, there was another twist. I envy the friendship between the main characters and the strength they had even through some very difficult moments.

This turned out to be a really good read! It was interesting (once the pace picked up and the timing got sorted out) and enthralling and kept me reading wanting to find out what happens next! As I mentioned briefly above, my only complaint is the timing. It didn’t feel like there was a clear pace, they just seemed to jump back and forth and the dialogue seemed slightly stilted to me. It seemed to even up about halfway through (or maybe I just got used to it) and I barely noticed it but it did take me awhile to get into the story because of that. Overall this was a very interesting read and had me on the edge of my seat! I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future!

Cate and Patti have been best friends since childhood. They went through everything together. All of their past memories have included each other, both the good AND the bad. Twenty years later, the two are still friends but they have drifted apart until the past gets dredged up causing Patti to come back to their childhood town to deal with it.

Twenty years ago, Cate killed a man. They thought she got away with it but it is what also caused the girls to drift apart. Turns out the case is being reopened and Cate is scared that she will be caught this time around. It turns out that Cate isn’t the only one with secrets in this town. Around every corner something else happens to test the friendship of both Cate and Patti.

Both characters were loveable in their own ways. Patti is a strong woman who takes care of everyone else which causes her to be independent and take everything on herself. Cate is an anxious mess, well that’s what she sees herself as, in reality she is just tired and scared from the traumatic life she led.

This book was a really interesting read. I can usually guess a lot of times what is going to happen. Turns out I was right but then a twist appears making me only a little right. The twist and turns of this book had me on the edge of my seat trying to guess what else is going to happen.

A Fantastic four-star read. I really enjoyed this story and was so close to giving it five-stars but there was just something that stopped me, it was just something I couldn’t put my finger on. This story sucks you in, it makes you wonder and worry, each piece adds another layer to the story, the history these characters have will drag you in and you will be feeling the past, it’s a great journey that will keep you guessing all the way through. Cate Silver and Pattie Thomas will leave you wondering, as they have kept secrets and so many more than you first realise. This one will keep you guessing and have you wondering all the way through.

Care and Patti stole my heart with their friendship journey over the years ❣️they’re written so well that they actually become real people to you !

Cate and her little sister Sammy didn’t have an easy life with their mother and their situation broke my heart into a million pieces and I’m just grateful they had Patti and her mum on their lives 👏little Sammy adored Patti and in turn Patti was always kind and patient …..

The past comes back to haunt them and it just made me realise afresh that a secret will always find its way out , it’s like a festering wound ….

My heartstrings were really pulled at and I had some real meltdown moments because this story is so very real !

I’m so grateful to have been part of Care and Patti🤗

I liked this story in general. There were some tough subjects mentioned. Things that happen to people that no one likes to talk about. I’m an emotional person so I teared up quiet a bit reading this book. Patti has to be one of the strongest people in the book. Her protection of Cate all those years is astonishing. This book is filled with secrets, twists, but also love. I’d do anything for my best friend. I’ll keep all of her secrets. And this book reflected that sentiment. The writing style of the author is easy to follow and it’s easy to keep track of all the characters. It was a good book. Give it a try.

Something happens on prom night that completely changes the rest of their lives. Things are kept and hidden from those that they live and these things come back to haunt them. Will they be able to get through this or will everything completely fall apart.

This book was a very quick read for me! I absolutely loved the back and forth banter between the characters even though there has been 5 years since they last saw each other. The relationship reminded me of my relationship with my best friend. We would drop everything to help one another out even though we live 16 hrs apart.

Patti and Cate are the best of friends and when Cate needed her, Patti showed up. Highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I was late to the party on this one and I’m most grateful for grace ❣️ I’m a firm believer in things happen for a reason and even with my books I believe I read them when I’m meant to and I read this later than I was supposed to because I believe it can at the right time , a time when my heart needed comfort , it felt like I was sitting at Norahs feet and listening to her story of how Bella came about and how Logan came to have the honour of having Bella .

Now this book is made of 2 books and while I’d love to honour each one in it’s entirety they really flow , go hand in hand and I’m so grateful I had this chance to experience it this way ….

In Bella I met Giovanni and I teared up more than once at the injustice some folk have to endure because of another’s greed but there’s always a silver lining and Giovanni eventually lives his dreams out with Norah and Elsie .

The way Giovanni describes how a he or even his “ teacher”!made a violin made me hungry to hear it’s beautiful sound and having played the violin myself for many years I actually had goosebumps on a few occasions! I think that’s where my love of classical music started , in any case I could hear the music in my minds eye and this story about Bella was so beautifully written ❣️

So I finished off Bella on a sad but beautiful note and I’m curious to learn more about Logan and thankfully all I had to do was turn the page to continue on my journey into “Jagged Dawn”

Logan is married to Jack who seems to enjoy his clients and liquor more than her and I had to try and keep an open mind and not take an instant dislike to the man , so be warned 🤞but there’s their daughter Amy , who’s independent and taking a gap year on a year long internship as an assistant to a photographer traveling through the African continent!

Then my blood runs cold while they’re at Antonio’s but it seems I was a little hasty and just as I catch my breath I near but have a panic ….poor Logan , I didn’t think I could read any further for all the tears and again I was treated for pushing through and now I’m just hungry for more !

This is my first read from this author. If you like Hallmark-type movies and books, you should get this one. Definitely like a chick-flick and I am here for it. It gives me all the vibes of a tight-knit sister kind-of friendship that you always dream about as a girl.
Cate and Patti (characters) have been like sisters, the best of friends, for life. Like most women, after the school years end, we all tend to go our separate ways. The friendship is like one of those friends that you don’t talk to for months but you always seem to pick right back up where you left off. There is a HUGE secret that bonds them for life and as adults it threatens to get leaked. That’s all I am going to say. I absolutely loved it and will probably re-read it on a cozy weekend.

Bella-An Appalachian Love Story & Jagged Dawn-Logan’s Beginnings are the two prequels in the Logan McKenna Mystery series by Valerie Davisson. Even though these tow books are part of the Logan McKenna Mystery series, they are quite different from the mysteries I was expecting. They are more like women’s fiction with a strong emotional component. This is two stories in one. The first, Bella, takes us way back in time (50+ years) and introduces us to Norah, who is Logan’s great-grandmother; and how she meets Giovanni, the Italian immigrant who hand crafts a beautiful violin, Bella, which goes on to become the family heirloom. A sweet and interesting story.
The second story Jagged Dawn comes forward in time to Logan, but set before Shattered (Book One in the series). Again, this story is more of a women’s fiction- with emotion and drama. It follows Logan through the loss of her husband and into an unknown future, following as Logan picks up the pieces to find a way to move on. Another interesting story that gives us a little more insight into Logan’s character, as well as her background story to the series.

Thank you, Valerie Davisson!

For the last 20 years Cate has been running from the secret that she has tried to leave in her past. A secret so dark that she was hoping would never be revealed. But when the case gets reopened of the man that she murdered all those years ago she is concerned that she is going to lose everything. She figures the only way to get herself out of it is to once and all own up to what she did and to tell the truth.

Patti has also been harboring a secret for the past 20 years. She was there with Cate the night that the man was murdered, and she has been running from it ever since. She got married and had kids of her own and moved hundreds of miles away. She left everything and everyone behind, not just the secrets but friendships and family. But now with the case reopened she must go back and help Cate.

Cate and Patti have been running for 20 years but now must decide if it is time to stop running. Once the case has been reopened new evidence surfaces, old wounds are opened, memories are dredged up, and secrets are revealed. Cate and Patti’s friendship is put to the test as the secrets they harbor starts to drive a wedge between them.

As always, the author did an amazing job with the story. I admired the strength and resilience of both Cate and Patti and the unbreakable bond between them. I loved the friendship they had that stood the test of time regardless of the years and hundreds of miles between them. When push came to shove, they were always there for each other. I read the book from cover to cover and was unable to put it down because I needed to know what would become of Cate and Patti. I needed to know what happened that faithful night when a man was killed. This book took so many twists and turns that just seemed to come out of nowhere and left me wanting more. It seems that Kate and Patty were not the only ones harboring secrets for the past 20 years. If you want to know more, you’ll have to read the book yourself. I highly recommend this Book!

Cate Silver is taking care of her sick father and childish adult sister. It has been 20 years since she committed the crime of killing a man and the case was closed due to lack of evidence, but the case has been reopened. Even though her friend Patti Thomas is living several hundred miles away she needs her. Patti is living in what seems to be a loveless marriage and feels as though her children hate her. When Cate shows up she doesn’t hesitate to drop everything and go back to the town she grew up in. Cate is feeling the pressure to come clean about what happened all those years ago, but Patti doesn’t think anything will come of the new investigation. Will Cate wind up turning herself in to the police and telling the truth? Will the new evidence being unearthed send Cate to prison or will she and Patti be taking their secrets to their graves?

I have read several books by this author and enjoyed them all. If you like paranormal mysteries, thrillers, or crime I highly suggest giving this author a try.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning! Cate killed a man twenty years ago and as the case reopens, she knows that she needs her best friend, Patti, back in her life. They haven’t seen each other in five years though, and as much as this book is about Cate trying to remain a free woman, it’s just as much about the friendship that stands to fall apart if they don’t work together. This is my first book by the author, I really enjoyed her unique writing style and her way of making the writer really understand what the characters are going through in the book. It always makes me happy when I can pick up a book and finish it in that same setting, and that is exactly what happened with this one! The author truly has a talent of keeping the writing hooked, whether it be revealing something at the end of the chapter that makes it impossible to put down or the heart-wrenching moments throughout the book. She also did a wonderful job of developing the story throughout the book, making it harder and harder to put it down. Can’t wait to read more by her!
