This book was incredible. Marjorie’s vision is brought to life by their collaborative words. It is heart wrenching and eye opening. Quite honestly, I feel like this should be required reading in high schools. History is important to experience through the eyes of oppressed peoples. I think that many people would experience a different world than they’ve been taught by reading this book. I am eager to read the rest in the collection. Especially at this time in the world, we can take many lessons from Native peoples to better connect with the earth and others. Brilliant.

Secrets of the Sorcery War is the second book in the Ruarnon Trilogy. It’s definitely a series to read in order, so if you haven’t already I’d recommend starting with Manipulator’s War which is another great book.
This is an epic fantasy series with teenage characters, suitable for YA readers and beyond. It’s set in a vibrant and diverse fantasy world with some characters who have come from our world. In Secrets of the Sorcery War there are plenty of new settings to discover alongside Ruarnon and their friends!
I was initially drawn to this series by the nonbinary main character. It’s so great coming across well-written nonbinary characters in genres I enjoy like fantasy! And more broadly it’s a great tool for teaching people how to use they/them pronouns.
As Ruarnon develops as a leader, their understanding and skills at diplomacy grow. This is fun to read, as they keep being thrown into Situations and having to figure out how to respond. They’re also aware of their own limitations and shortcomings and open to asking for help or information that they need.
This book gets five stars from me! I’d recommend it to fans of fantasy worlds such as Narnia and Tortall looking for a great modern series to get stuck into!

I love a good fantasy series. I typically don’t but I did read a couple other Fantasy books in between Manipulators War and reading this, and yet I was able to jump right in and be right back into it. This was a page turner, and it was hard to put it down. Carlson kept me entertained from the moment I opened book 1, her words just flow and create a true picture in my mind. I look forward to continue reading books by Carlson.

I read this book without reading the first two in the series. I feel like this book can be read alone, but readers would probably benefit from reading the first two books. I felt the writing was good, especially the dialogue and communication between characters. Cecily Taylor Damone wants to be with her boyfriend, Andrew, and also have a successful acting career. Throughout their relationship, jealously threatens to keep Cecily and Andrew apart. I dislike how jealous the two characters are, but this is a young adult romance and I feel the characters are portrayed well for being young adults. I enjoyed this read even though I am much older than young adults. I look forward to seeing what is in store for Cecily in the next book.

I was intrigued by the cover and description of this audiobook and decided to dive in… and my goodness …. this story was raw and emotional….and I was rooting for Talks Like Thunder all the way. This is the first book in the series and I will definitely be checking out the rest of the books and I am intrigued where the story goes from here.
Talks Like Thunder loses her parents at an early age and she is taken by her grandfather so he may protect her. She learns quickly how to be a warrior… but constantly thrown in different paths but tries to find a way to fight and protect her people.
This story was so good, drama and heartbreaking moments… but I love Talks Like Thunder and her focus and determination to help her people when they need her most.

Talks Like Thunder is the first Novella in the Red With Native Blood series. This is a wonderfully written story of Dessert Flower and her journey to become Talks like Thunder. The first word that comes to mind is Beautiful, even though there is a lot of sadness in this story that will bring tears to your eyes in many parts, it is sadly the realistic truth of the of what happened to the native people. Being native myself I felt this book was written so well and truthful in so many ways, with great detail to the ways of the people, and all things that are important to us. I highly recommend this book. I can’t wait for the next. The narrator Aubriana Harshfield did an amazing job.

This is a great continuation of the first book. The main characters go on an adventure to rescue their parents. The characters are well written and you can feel all of the emotions they are experiencing. There are magical things happening and each character has a pert to play in this adventure. The story is well written and I enjoyed learning more about each of the characters.

An action packed from the start, new to me series. Also, the author is new to me too. This series is a young adult fantasy with some time travels included. The author did a wonderful job with world building and the characters are good too. There is a lot happening within the book so anyone reading would have to pay close attention – especially as you learn about what Ruarnon is going through as they grow into their new position as heir after their parents are attacked. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and soon after decided to read the 2nd book in the series.

Cecily is starting her senior year of high school. With a pop star boyfriend, she has an opportunity to fly to New York to meet with a fashion designer. She started off wanting to be an actor but her career seems to be going in the direction of modeling.
I really enjoyed reading this. I haven’t read the other novels in the series but I wasn’t confused at all. I actually felt more invested because I knew Cecily had come a long way.
Cecily even wonders if Andrew’s world is something she can handle. She is excited to finally be in the same city as him as well as move her career along with the right connections, but she is aware how easy it is to be swept up in the Big City.
In a lot of novels the main characters keep secrets from each other but I like how Cecily and Andrew for the most part did communicate and eventually was able to repair damage that was done. The media and fans can start rumors and it illustrates how her relationship with Andrew suffered because of it. To me, I was able to feel her anxiety and uncertainty. Just all her emotions in general. She was a well written character and the plot just pulls you in.
Cecily also states in the beginning how she no longer feels the need to make herself anxious just to support a friend. When she gets invited to go rock climbing with her friends Allie and Lila, she declines a few times despite her friends trying to change her mind.
‘She stuck out her tongue out and said she’d text me if she survived. Normally, I’d go just to support a friend but I was at a place in my life where I realized I didn’t need to make myself anxious about climbing a big wall just to keep someone else happy. I’d spent so much time doing things other people wanted and now I realized I could save myself both anxiety and energy by listening to what felt right for me. I was slowly learning about boundaries’.
That passage really stayed with me. At 30, I am slowly learning about boundaries and not doing things to make other people happy.
The end of the novel kind of had a cliffhanger which makes me excited to see what happens next.

Cecily is a high schooler who is looking to get her big break. She just got a taste of what it will be like after she acts in a music video. With her favorite artist who just happens to become her boyfriend. She is pushing super hard to move to the city and continue her modeling / acting career. Plus she will be in the same city as her boyfriend. And get out of her small town. She isn’t all that sure she wants all that fame comes with. But she also knows she doesn’t want the opportunities to pass her by. This book was so good. It perfectly encapsulated the insecurity and the friendship issues that occur in high school. I also really enjoyed Cecily’s family and how they seemed very realistic about their daughter becoming an actress. This was such an emotional book. I definitely felt all of Cecily’s emotions throughout the book. I also really enjoyed in the beginning where she starts being confused about if she wants the negative parts of having a big break, such as the social media comments. I definitely think this is such a good summer read.

I picked this one up not having read other books in the series and now I’m going back to read those, too. The characters are fantastic and even though the story itself is not anything relatable to the average person (hello, pop stars, models, and fashion designers!), the struggles, life choices, and relationships are very much so. And for characters that are younger, they act very mature, which I could see making a positive influence on the young adult readers. Cecily and her friends are fun and supportive as they navigate plans for their future out of high school, and Cecily herself learns some life lessons about the entertainment business and that you can’t trust everyone, even when you’re a nobody just getting your feet wet.

Wow there is a LOT that happens with this book! Action packed right from the beginning, there’s not a whole lot I can say that won’t give away too much. The story focuses mainly on Ruarnon and their struggles as a teen when regency is suddenly thrust upon them, but also features detailed supporting characters. Very rich character development. I also liked seeing the similarities between Ruarnon and their opposition… seeing they had very similar struggles but how they handled things were vastly different and therefor the outcomes were as well. There were definitely some twists and surprises that I didn’t expect, and that always makes for a good read! I just started the second one and am already hooked there as well!

This is an amazing novella of Desert Flower’s journey. This really is a story that grabs your attention. I was intrigued at how she started off her life and how strong she became. She is a true warrior spirit. The writing is so flowing and relatable that you must continue listening while you work. All of the characters are well-written from Grey Fox to those in the tribe. They all grew to mesh well, as a family should. This is about a young, indigenous girl that becomes a strong young woman. She overcomes a lot and finds her family. It’s a definite must listen to story. I do wish the narrator could have given a little more energy to her voice. It was a tad dry and I fell asleep a few times. Wow! This book is painfully beautiful. I really enjoy learning and hearing about the Native American people and their culture and traditions. This book had my heart breaking for all the Native American’s from back then and even now. No one deserves the treatment they received and it makes me so angry that although this story was fictional, things like this did happen. I could not stop reading and can’t wait to pick up the next book in the series. I only hope Walks Like Thunder can once again meet with Golden Eagle, and together they can heal from their great loss.

This is the third book in this series and even though it is not recommended to read as stand-alones, I read this book and fell in love with the characters and the plot. There may be some things I missed from the first two books (which I now plan on going back and reading) but I honestly didn’t miss it. Cecily is doing big things in her life. This story will have you turning the pages to find out how she does it and all that she deals with along the way. LOVED this book and will be reading the first two just to tie it all together.

This was the first time I had read a book by this author and read it as a standalone as well. I am going to pick up the previous books in the series as well because this was a super fun read! This book is such a fantastic read, I found it not knowing it was book 3. I still read it and I loved it. It is on the shorter side but it is worth it. I couldn’t put it down. The characters are so well written and the storyline is wonderful. I am not going to lie even though I am way past the YA age I still read books from that category. I always enjoy this author’s books! This one was a great young adult read following Cecily on her journey to stardom. She has a good head on her shoulders and her parents are so supportive. Even her friends are supportive and want the best for her. I like that you get to read the text conversations that she has with her friends. I really felt where Andrew was coming from with Dex and it definitely made me curious where things were going to lead. Cecily is young though and everything is new for her at this stage in her life. I really love how she holds onto her values and stays honest. I did not realize this was book 3 until after I finished it! I will say that I was able to understand the storyline pretty well and will definitely be going back to read book 1 and 2 in the series!

The second installment of this trilogy was a good continuation of the storyline. The author gives a nod to popular culture by having a nonbinary main character. The sorcery battle scenes were well-depicted. The author includes diplomacy throughout the story. One of my favorite parts of the book was the artwork between sections of the book- sometimes a weapon, at other times a stack of books. I think the author is saying that a civilization needs both education and weaponry.

Cecily’s dreams are coming true as she gets a major role in a daytime soap opera and moves to the big city, which just so happens to be the city her popstar boyfriend lives in! Things are looking up! More opportunities come her way, and she takes them to help gt her name out, not knowing the rumors that would begin speading. She finds herself questioning her dicisions and even wondering if moving to the big city was the right decision for her or if she should have stayed put. This is the 3rd book in the deligtful Cecily Taylor series, annd I highly suggest takign the time to real all three books! They are fun and interesting, and kept me turning page after page until I found myself finished with the book!!

This is the 3rd book in The Cecily Taylor series. I really recommend reading these books from the beginning as we have followed Cecily from the start of her dreams of being an actress and all the ups and downs that come along with that. This is a sweet YA romance and deal with many topics that they may face in their lives so as jealousy and people looking for ways to bring you down. Cecily is leaving to follow her dreams. With a job on a TV soap, the man of her dreams and now living in the big city her life can’t get anymore perfect. All her dreams are finally coming true. The problem is Cecily doesn’t expect the downsides that follow being famous and having a famous boyfriend. When stories and rumours start to circulate can Cecily and Andrew be strong enough to work through them and know the truth? All Cecily wants is to live a happy life doing a job she loves with the man she loves by her side. Why are people out to get her? What could they be achieving by hoping she fails? This is a great story about learning to see through lies and rumours, staying true to yourself and fighting for what you want no matter how many people try to put you down and put obstacles in your way.

This YA book is full of all the emotions…angst, fear, love, loss, and finding yourself…you know, normal teenage stuff! Cecily wants to make a name for herself, and a modeling opportunity in New York is the perfect way to get her foot in the door. With the support of her family, friends and her pop-star boyfriend, Andrew, she believes she can do it. However, when she finally gets to New York, and gets the opportunity to act, she finds her support system dwindling and learns that there are people out there who just want to see her fail. However, Cecily’s determination is admirable and is definitely worth reading! I found this book tugging at my emotional heartstrings…and I was here for it! As the mother of teenagers, I wanted to see Cecily thrive and find out who she can be. The author did an amazing job at tackling real-life issues (even on a more grandiose scale with the characters being “famous”)…but the underlying themes are relevant. I enjoyed reading this book!
