Cursed by Fire (Blood & Magic Series Book #1) by Danielle Annett – Review by Angela Hayes

Cursed by Fire (Blood & Magic, #1)Cursed by Fire by Danielle Annett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cursed by Fire is the first book in the Blood & Magic series by Danielle Annett. What a fantastic way to start a series- it was spellbinding, sexy and action packed. This is a brilliant urban fantasy/paranormal story full of magic, supernatural elements, vampires, shifters, harpies, drama, angst, tension, danger, conflict… and so much more. The characters are superb, I loved how they were so well developed and had their own unique personalities, quirks and flaws. The way they were written, and the way they continued to grow and develop as the story unfolded really made this story take on a realistic and entirely believable quality. The authors’ world building skills are exceptional, she wove so much into her world but I believed it all and never questioned any of the elements. There is a lot going on in the book, the story is quite complex with various threads all playing out at the same time. But Ms. Annett orchestrates the whole production into a smooth and seamless read.
Aria Naveed is quite a special young woman. She is a human with Pyrokinetic abilities that come in handy in her line of work, being a mercenary. She is called in to look for a missing 7-year-old boy, but when she finally tracks him down she discovers a mutilated body. It looks like his death was caused by vampires. But why? She’s determined to hunt down the murderer/s and bring them to justice. When the local shifter pack becomes involved and send one of their own to help her investigate, Aria soon discovers that there is far more to this situation that she could have imagined. Danger seems to follow close behind- lurking in the shadows and around every corner. Will she get to the bottom of it all? With secrets, lies, hidden agendas, bizarre murders, set ups, betrayal, and nothing adding up- Aria will be tested like never before.
I love Aria and James, and all the secondary characters- they are all so well crafted. The story has funny moments, emotional scenes, as well as witty banter and quips.
I really enjoyed reading this book, I devoured it in a matter of hours and can’t wait to continue the story in the next book. I really hope that Aria and James act on their chemistry and attraction in the next story. They are so great together and I think they’d make a great couple.
A fantastic read!

Thank you, Ms. Annett!
