The Last Keeper of the Light: a dystopian fantasy is the first book I’ve read by Nikki Broadwell, and I really enjoyed it. I was hooked from the beginning, due to the excellent characters, fascinating plot, and descriptive writing. Then, once Sandal started her journey, I wanted to know where she was being led, and what would happen. I love dystopian stories, and found this one to be unique. I loved the Hopi prophesies twisted into the story line. The story takes place in a post apocalypse world, filled with Raiders, disease, starvation, and no electricity. The character’s main focus in life has become just trying to survive. Sandal is such an amazingly strong character, her will and strive to survive keeps her going during these dark and dangerous times. She has had to go through so much in her short life, and was forced to grow up much faster than any child should have to. The emotions are strong while reading about her love, loss, fear, sadness and strength. The ending is amazing, and not one I saw coming. 5 star book, and I look forward to reading more of Broadwell in the future!
