Big City Heat: A High-Rise Romance Anthology (A Steamy Contemporary Romance Box Set) – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Big City Heat: A High-Rise Romance AnthologyBig City Heat: A High-Rise Romance Anthology by Hazel Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I ‘binge read’ this box set of contemporary romances which includes twelve standalone and full stories by twelve different amazing authors. The common theme was that each story was a romance set in the Big City, in particular in the city high-rises. The Anthology has stories about, “an exotic cocktail – billionaire, fakes, curvy women, older men, interracial, LGBTQ, straight, office, mafia, and much, much more”. The stories in this anthology are: The 57th Floor by Hazel Storm, A Change of Plans by PE Kavanagh, A Hole by Phoebe Alexander, One Night with A Knight by Aidy Award, Jodi Payne’s 44th & Blue, Maida Malby’s Global City Tryst, and Felling Bechet by Stella Williams, also, The Wolf of Wall Street by Lucy Eden, Make Me Beg by Moni Boyce, Jayce Ellis’s Courtney, The Glass Tower by Emily Gray, and finally The Right Note by author Bree Kraemer. I like the fact that, “A portion of net proceeds goes to the Equal Justice Initiative”.
One story which stood out for me was from an author I enjoy reading, Phoebe Alexander. In ‘A Hole’, I loved the main characters, comedian Ace Bennett and Ella Craig, the lady he invites to his comedy show and who he dares that if he succeeds in making her laugh she had to have a drink with him. After lots of meddling from friends and a number of misunderstandings I was really cheering Ace and Ella on hoping they would get a happy ending. A lovely romance, a bit of drama and plenty of steamy scenes and a chemistry which sizzled off the page resulted in me reading the story in one sitting. Another story which stood out amongst all these enjoyable and engaging stories in the anthology was by a new author to me, Emily Gray. In ‘The Glass Tower’, Zel Thatcher has been imprisoned in a glass tower by his tyrannical uncle and longs for the day he can escape. Only his passion for music keeps him alive until music royalty Regina Prince comes into his life. Having heard an exquisite performance Regina goes searching for its source which leads her to Zel. Regina never imagined that she would discover someone like Zel whose heart sings just like hers does. However, Zel’s uncle is set in destroying the couples happily ever after. These two characters had instant attraction which really came across in the writing and I loved how their relationship developed and the plot had enough drama to keep me hooked and also plenty of romance to keep me happily turning the pages.
I thoroughly enjoyed each story in the anthology and although each story had its own differing amounts of drama they all had plenty of romance and lots of hot and steamy scenes.
