My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Alex is suffering from a serious case of writer’s block (and the deadline for his next book is looming), his best friend Luke takes him up to the mountains to help Alex find that spark. Luke’s other best friend, and friend of Alex by association, Penny joins them on the trip.
While opening Alex’s eyes to what it takes to survive in nature, Alex’s eyes are also opened about his feelings for Penny. While there is a “bro-code” between Alex and Luke, Alex finds it harder and harder to keep his thoughts from straying to Penny. When they realize they have a mutual attraction, they decide to act on it. Should they be honest with Luke at tell him what’s going on?
When they are forced to end their trip early and come home, doubts start to creep into Alex’s mind about whether or not this thing with Penny can survive back in the city. This causes him and Lucas to argue…and Alex to doubt if he is worthy.
I found myself drawn to Alex’s character because I can see myself in him (minus the childhood and background issues). However, I believe Penny is good for him and forces him, gently, out of his comfort zone to see the person he could be. I enjoyed the story and, like most readers, want to know what happens next. Overall, a good story.
