House in the Woods by Jessica Aiken-Hall

4 out of 5

House in the Woods is a gripping tale of intrigue and finding family. From about 30 pages in I thought to myself, “I got this figured out.” Oh my, was I wrong. The twists and turns kept me glued to every page!! I can’t wait for Jessica’s next book!

Molly has led a sheltered life thanks to her father’s job, town sheriff. He knows the dangers of the real world. Molly didn’t have many friends growing up in a large part to this. Just as she has graduated high school and is about to make the leap to the outside world, her mother is diagnosed with dementia and needs her to stay at home. Molly agrees to attend a community college near home to be there for her mother.

Molly’s brother, Marc, is almost a stranger. He is almost 20 years older and lives 12 hours away. In desperation one day when her mom is missing, Molly calls Marc for help. He agrees to come home. Marc uses his 20th high school reunion as an excuse for his sudden visit home. Marc is confronted by the sins of his past, including his missing high school girlfriend, while in town. Marc and Molly travel a path of finding the truth that brings them closer together while threatening to tear their family apart.

Will the secrets of the past lead Marc and Molly to the family they have always wanted? Is Molly’s mom faking her dementia? The answers will surprise you!!
