Set in a dystopic near future, Raven Woman’s Tavern is the story of a collection of survivalists who are squatting in the remains of a dead timber town in the Northwest. The residents—most of them old, sick, and in need—help each other by means legal and extralegal under the watchful eye of Rachel, the tavern keeper. When the peace of the community is disturbed by the sudden visit of four members of the local militia, the survivalists are frightened; not all of them are law-abiding and some are not citizens.

‪But, as Crazy Mary said to Charlie the Poet, “You don’t piss Rachel off. She’s got her ways.”

Stripped by Stacy-Deanne – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Detective Dee Quarter doesn’t seem to have many things going for her at the moment. She has recently lost her father, am ex-boyfriend that wants her back, and she has recently been partnered with the one person on the department she can’t stand. When a case comes across her desk she and her new partner have the pleasure of interviewing a local author, Grayson Paul, who also happens to be Detective Quarters pesky ex. She may still have some feelings for him, but she is seeing Winston Lewis and doesn’t want to throw away what they have. Grayson gives up the name of a man that runs a group known as The Circle. A meeting is set up for them to meet the man behind the so called cult, Jonathan Wild, but he is busy when they arrive. Who is this mysterious man? Detective Quarter is intrigued by the man from what she has seen on the internet, but what doesn’t realize is that he has taken a special interest in her. He wants her to become part of his private community no matter what it takes. Out of the many people that are potential suspects will she be able to find the culprit? Will she be able to keep herself from being sucked in by Jonathan Wild?

This was an interesting and quick read. I have seen somewhere that this us a spin-off of another series and I am now curious to check it out so I can find out more about some of these characters. The author did a good job drawing me in and keeping my attention.

A stormy night brings the unlikely pair together in a way that neither anticipated. Potager Plot (A Backyard Farming Series Book 5) Vikki Walton- Review by Lauren West

Potager Plot (A Backyard Farming Series, #5)Potager Plot by Vikki Walton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first book by Vikki Walton, and I am happy I took the chance and picked it up. This book is full of life, and not just with the plants. Ann is feisty, funny, sweet, and a mystery magnet. Strange events or people questioning them seem to flock to her for help and she doesn’t really mind.
Anne has found a passion in garden design, and begins helping out with the gardening club. When she arrives to begin a new design with Billie a current member she stumbles upon much more than flowers, dirt, and soil. She discovers Billie’s dead body, and doubts it was an accident. Much to her fiancée Carson’s’ disapproval she begins her own investigation and finds that there was lots to be said, and not everything was as it seems.
This book was a lot of fun, The women in the garden club shared a unique bond and were all caring, sweet, and supportive of each other. All the characters in this book were very well written and well developed.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a 4 star read, it took me just a little bit to get pulled into the story.

A woman is dead and Connie and Dee are investigating it. The investigation takes them to The Circle, a cult that is led by Jonathan. Jonathan is intrigued by Dee and wants her to join The Circle. The other difficult thing she is dealing with is her current boyfriend and her ex. Who will she choose? Will they be able to find the murderer?

Overall this was a good read. All of the characters added a great element to the story. I look forward to reading more from this author and series. 1-click and get started today.

We get suspense, murder, drama and so much more.

Potager Plot (A Backyard Farming Series, #5)Potager Plot by Vikki Walton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Potager Plot: A witty cozy mystery with a hint of romance. (A Backyard Farming Mystery Book 5) by Vikki Walton is a heart-warming and easy read. Unfortunately, I did not realise that it was the fifth book in the series until I was a good way through. So rather than stop I finished and really enjoyed it. I will go back and start at the beginning in the future. This suspenseful read is fun, and we have a team of female leads that will do your head in. They are sassy fun and each one of them full of secrets and the unexpected. They are definitely a quirky bunch.
A mysterious death, maybe. An affair, possibly. Happy besties, hmmmm maybe not. But one thing that is sure is that it is a quick read, an afternoon delight with good humour and a few chuckles.

First and foremost, this is the 4th book in the series but, you do not have to read the others to enjoy it. This was my first read by Renee Regent and I enjoyed it! It will also not be my last, it has intrigued me into wanting to read the others in the series. There was also so many emotions that I went through along with the characters. The author does a great job of pulling you in and becoming invested in the characters. This is sometimes hard to do but Renee Regent does a good job with how they present them.

Lady Isra of the Dark didn’t always reside in the shadows she had a light side too as you will soon discover. This story takes us to the beginning and we find out what happened to Isra to turn her dark.

You will need to read this story to find out what happened but I do recommend that you read all the books in the series…

When a night out ends with him being stabbed he ends up at a Free Clinic and meets Erin who is his nurse. Both have pasts they cant ignore, and secrets they cant escape, but an attraction and need for another that they also cant deny. I haven’t read a good suspense book in a while, but this book was absolutely thrilling! I have a bad habit of guessing who was the killer and most of the time I’m able to figure it out way in advance of the big reveal. The red herrings in this were so well done that I couldn’t even get close to figuring it out. I loved it! This book has it all, a badass female protagonist, thrills for days, sexy people, cults, intrigue I mean you name it and it was there. I read this book in one session and am eager to read more. I really love an unpredictable ending, and a suspense book that keeps me guessing. I can’t wait to read the other released books in this series. Definitely a must read!

This was a good story. I wish I would have read the other books in the series first because I feel like I was missing some key points especially about the protagonist, Anne. She reminded me a lot of a Jessica Fletcher (or as her romantic partner called her, Nancy Drew). I wasn’t certain of her age and the rest of the gardening club so it was a little difficult when the characters kept mentioning age gaps to follow some of those.

I thought the mystery was pretty clean and the plot lines followed a certain structure. I did guess who did it in the middle of the book but it didn’t take away from the rest of the story.

Overall, I would read others in the series as well as other books by this author.

While it was incredible as a stand alone the characters and the plot made this reader want to go back and read the previous four. Portages Plot has so much to offer including strong female characters, mystery, tons of plant knowledge and more. This was a great romantic mystery. We meet Dee Quarter a police detective who has just lost her partner from an accident on the job. She gets paired with Connie Wilks who she has personality differences with. It may just be that they are a lot the same. The case that gets thrown their way is a woman who was strangled. Their investigation leads them in a couple directions, one of them being a cult called The Circle, led by Jonathan Wild, another her ex-Grayson.
Will Dee be drawn into Jonathan’s world or will she be able to hold onto her romance with Winston Lewis. I feel Dee’s struggle, the pull she feels to Jonathan, Grayson not wanting to let go of the love he has for her, and Dee just wanting to have her relationship with Winston. Can she keep a hold of who she is? Or will this case pull her in directions she really doesn’t want to go?

Who would have thought that plot line could be so interesting and keep one attention till the end!
This murder mystery is very detailed, powered by women and easy to follow along.
When there is drama in a garden club and the death is one of the dearly loved members/leader. You question everyone and everything before you are next to be sleeping with the roses!
There is some grapevine twists and turns in this story, but great ending! Who’s ready to dig up the dirt!!

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Liz Vrchota

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is such a wonderful boxed set with so many different areas of interest covered for young adult readers that it would be a wonderful one to snag a gift or read for yourself! I love box sets from my favorite authors for this reason! I can share all my favorites in such a convenient way and start people with a wonderful series. The Marcy Series has something for everyone like I said with a strong female lead and really brings to a whole host of supporting side characters to fall in love with as well. I have included below the review for the first two books in the series individually as well so you can get a taste of what is in them in depth a bit more but this is one that you do not want to miss out on!

RAGE: BOOK 1-

“As I fall asleep, all I can think of is a four-letter word: Rage.”

This was my first time reading anything by Linda Burson, and I don’t generally pick up many novels in these genres either, but was wanting to switch it up a bit and the synopsis grabbed my attention from the get go. I was really intrigued by the fact that this was looking to lean more towards an alpha female lead rather than focusing on an alpha male lead for a change. So, I jumped in with an open mind and was fully ready for some kick butt female lead story lines.

So, we meet the lovely and deeply aggravated Marcy. She is the owner of a bakery, Coffee, Tea, & Treats, engaged to Brad, and seems like life is going fairly well. Except it really isn’t. She has been plagued with these nightmares for quite some time now and it is affecting every person and aspect of her life.

“I haven’t been my sweet self for a while. I’m not trying to be difficult, but the nightmares I’ve been having are taking their toll on me.”

All that seems to be the norm in her life as far as feelings go anymore is rage.

“As I fall asleep, all I can think of is a four-letter word: Rage.”

Eventually it takes its final toll on her relationship with her fiancé and an ultimatum is given to her, she either gets help or he is gone.

“That’s it, damn it! I’m done! Do you hear me? I’m fed up with your craziness. I’m leaving. You need help and you need it now!”

This eventually leads her to a newfound love and friend, Liam. They embark on a journey together that will either heal them or tear them apart more.
I will say that this isn’t necessarily a cliffhanger book, but there are unanswered questions and loose ends. It is book 1 in a series and you will definitely want book 2 after this one is done so that you can get the answers to some of those questions left hanging in the air after this one is done. The one reason that I did not give this five stars was because for me this book was in a lot of ways disjointed. It almost felt like two stories with an intermission of excessive information. I have a feeling that it will make all the more sense when reading the second book but it was a tad confusing in the sense that it was introduced in this novel rather than spread throughout the next few books. Otherwise I did enjoy it and will give the next one a go to see what comes next for Marcy and the rest of the characters.

CONFUSION: BOOK 2-

“Marcy, sometimes we can’t explain why the heart wants what it wants. It doesn’t mean it’s wrong; it just means we get confused…”
This is the second installment in The Marcy series by Linda Burson and I was very much impressed with the flow and improvement with the storyline progression in this book. I liked the idea behind the series in book one and wanted it to go blossom in this one and it didn’t disappoint!
“Marcy, sometimes we can’t explain why the heart wants what it wants. It doesn’t mean it’s wrong; it just means we get confused. You need to incorporate your mind; use your intelligence to logically figure out why you feel so connected to him. The heart will lead us astray, but our hearts combined with our reason helps us decipher what the right answer is for us.”
This pretty much picks up where the precious book leaves off, with Marcy confused as to where she wants to settle her heart with, between Liam or Brad. She knows that she has ‘feelings’ for both of them but which one does she love? Luckily, she gets the opportunity to have time to figure this out with both of them, something that is not traditional in most relationships in the modern age, also made for a very interesting and captivating read.
This also contained all the drama, suspense, mystery, and intrigue that balanced so well in the previous novel. It really takes the reader on a roller coaster of a ride. Marcy has quite the intense life both in the present and in her history and she is still uncovering a lot of details. I look forward to reading more about this in future installments in this series.

Boy ReleasedBoy Released by J.D. Spero
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love books that stay with you long after you finish that last page, and BOY ON HOLD was a one that was with me for a very long time so my excitement for BOY RELEASED, the second book in this gripping series was palpable. I cleared an afternoon and was thrilled when the thunder was loud the morning of that day as it really set the tone for this book. It will evoke the feelings of dread, sadness, and fear as well as those feelings of family and hope, survival and love that really make you question and think on your values and belief systems that you have. Who doesn’t love a novel that does that as it takes you away to a fictional place as well? In this one we do find ourselves revisiting the same family from BOY ON HOLD, the Trout family, ten years after the tragedy that plagued them then. A new disaster is on the horizon and will send the family through a whole new set of debacles. I couldn’t put this sucker down and read it all in one sitting wishing for more right then. I can only hope we will see more from this author along the same lines in the near future!

Potager Plot: (A Backyard Farming Series Book 5) by Vikki Walton is the fifth book in the series, and is an engaging mystery that is so fun to read! For anyone who likes gardening and figuring out who-dunnit, this is a good read – it is quick reading and keeps you on your toes. When Anne Fremont is designing gardens and finds a dead body, secrets are revealed and the characters are fun to tag along with. This is an author who is new to me, but I can see myself revisiting and exploring the first book in the series, and also delving into other series. My husband both fell asleep and then woke up to me reading this book. I couldn’t put it down! My favorite reads are the kind that make you forget reality and make you forget that you are reading, and this is definitely one of those books.

Levi on the other hand wants to be heard. Can these two work together and complete the job set before them?
Renee Regent has written this contemporary love story. She describes her characters flawlessly. So much so you feel like you have met them before. I love the strength Dahlia shows, she does not let things stand In her way. Not even a man, gorgeous and all can stop her from completing her task. This was a non-stop page turner. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. Well Done Renee Regent! Well Done!
