Alex and her sister, Zoey, end up moving in with their grandmother after the death of their mother. The grandmother is a woman that Alex and Zoey never knew about. And she, grandmother, is definitely such an odd character. Alex is now on a mission to uncover her family history. But she quickly finds more than she bargained for.

This is the first book in a young-adult fantasy series. And it does not disappoint. I personally found myself completely engulfed in the character of Alex. Her emotional roller coaster of a life had me so intrigued that I could not put it down. I love how the sisters, Alex and Zoey, are complete opposites in the book. And I love how the author, Chynna Pace, ends the first book with a great set-up for the second book that gets you wanting to immediately read the next book in the series.
